2. I created some mock-ups to present to my focus group in
order to gain some more intricate feedback. Following the
previous feedback, I tried to create covers using simple
colours and plain backgrounds, and experimented with
different layouts and titles.
3. MOCK UP 1
• “I like the different fonts that have
been used for the caption.”
• “I think that model being central
works well as there is lots of clean
space around him.”
• “All the focus is on the model as
there is very little writing which I
like.
4. MOCK UP 2
• "I think that the title being down the
side is interesting, but I’m not sure
it would grab my attention in a
shop.”
• “I like the bold capital fonts used as
it really draws attention to the
writing.”
• “I think there could be a more
interesting colour on the front
cover.”
5. MOCK UP 3
• “I prefer the model being further
away from the camera so we can
see their body.”
• “I like the way the word ‘The’ fits
vertically down the side of ‘Rise’.
It’s really eye-catching!”
•“I don’t like how the writing is at the
bottom as it’s not early noticeable.”
6. WHICH NAME DO YOU PREFER?
➤ A large majority preferred the name ‘The Rise’ as “it suggest
the magazine will focus on up-and-coming stars”.
7. ➤ Again, most preferred ‘The Rise’ and when I asked why, the
general response was that they liked the way the masthead fit
perfectly at the top of page.
WHICH LAYOUT DO YOU PREFER?
8. ➤ Many of the focus group liked the mid-shot the most as they
could see the model’s body and it made the cover more
interesting.
WHICH SHOT DO YOU PREFER?
9. Therefore, when making my magazine cover, it will be
called ‘The Rise’, will have a mid-shot photograph of the
model, and the masthead will contain the vertical and
horizontal text fit at the top.
