This is the evaluation for unit 3. The evaluation talks about the final steps which would be reviewing the product. The review for the product includes peer feedback, comparing existing products with my own and talking about how I could include some of the improvements for it.
3. Research
• My research was very effective because the images I gathered from the
internet helped to inspire my final product. The character designs in each
image was vastly different which allowed me to combine different images
together and create my own character.
• The weaknesses of my research are that they didn’t help at all during the
drawing phase which was extremely difficult. I could have improved my
research by looking for images that were very similar to my final product
(which would have been impossible at the time) to give me an extra boost
and a bit more help whilst designing my product. My product may have
looked better if I were to follow up on my improvements.
4. Planning
• My planning stage was not that strong but, the copious amount of drawing
could have been classed as planning which was very effective for me. The
planning phase did help my product because I was finally able to create a
drawing I liked and one that I could use for my final product.
• The weaknesses for my planning are that the multiple attempts of drawing
did bring me down because I was really struggling with the drawing but I
was eventually able to finish it. I could have improved the planning phase
by drawing more images and practicing more so my final product would
have been easier. The effect this would have on this is
5. Time Management
• I didn’t manage my time effectively because I didn’t manage to hit the
deadline. I think my products would have improved with additional time
because I would have had more time to colour them in digitally.
6. Technical Qualities
The similarities between these two
characters is that they are both warriors and
have a sword. The differences between the
two is that my character has a bigger sword
compared to the other image which has a
smaller sword.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think my work looks alright for someone like me who isn’t particularly good at art in general. I do think my
work was creative as I didn’t use much inspiration to make this product and the clothing and other design
were my idea. The strength to this product is that it looks fairly good considering my own art skill. The
weakness is that it design is still a bit floppy ins some places so I would have hoped to improve it.
8. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience because my audience can relate to my product because of the age my character is.
Another aspect that appeals to my target audience is that it is related to the things my target audience plays e.g. dark
souls, world of Warcraft etc. It fits in with these because the character is from a fantasy world which matches the genre
of the games I mentioned.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– What I especially like about the drawing is that you have done well making a realistic
pose and that it is recognisable.
– The clothing fits the era which adds more realism
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– You could have neatened the outline making it look more polished rather than a sketchy
and rough outline.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– “I like his clothing options as it makes it look like a fantasy setting. His sword in his hand
looks good and suits a fighting style game.”
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– “The leg stance In this is needs improvements because he is stood in a positions that
doesn’t really work with the character.”
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the character design the drawing with the colour, the colours go well for the
fantasy genre and showing the character with a sword helps suggest this. The character
looks medieval so fits the theme you are going for within your game.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– Have a look at other character designs they may give you a better idea of how to draw
eyes on a character. This will help in the character looking more realistic.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree with most of the negatives that were put across in the peer feedback because
the design was rough and needed to be neatened out.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I think that all of the feedback is relevant because the feedback is mostly similar to my
own feelings on this work.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
The only changes I would make to this product would be to try to make the
character more realistic by adding more features such as skin creases and
changing the foot placement to make it look better. I would also change the
structure of the arms as they don’t look right and seem unrealistic. I would
also add some more armour to the character as doing so should give the
character a more fantasy like appeal.
