The practice production i did for my magazine.

2. Front Cover Process
• To begin my process of making a front cover, I chose a
picture of a model to be the cover girl. I chose this Missoni
advert because I liked the sky in the back and how it made
the model stand out I liked the contrast of colours and the
pose in which she is standing in.
• Her height also meant I would be able to put the title of
my magazine underneath her head to make her stand out
even more.
• To do this, I used a magnetic lasso tool and cut around the
area that would be effected then made a layer copy and
dragged that layer to be under the text layer.
• I font I chose to use was Helvetica Light Oblique because I
liked the way it looked and it looked quite smart. To carry
on the same aesthetic, I used different variations of the
Helvetica font to make it look different.
• I even put a barcode in the corner to make it look real.

4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in
your final product?
• I like the name I chose for the magazine – JODI – and
the style of the cover. I like the layout I used and will
keep the same aesthetic I used. I will keep the same
structure because I like the aesthetic of the cover. I like
the way the model stands and will replicate a similar
pose with my models. I also like the blue sky
background, however, due to it being November, it will
be difficult to get a background that is that nice. I will
just use the college studio – both the white and black
backgrounds- to get a range of different shots.

5. Double Page Process
• I decided to use the campaign shoots to fit with
the theme from my cover. I started by positioning
the photos the way I wanted them to look,
changing the size and the layout. As I did this, I had
a double page spread from Vogue in front of me to
give inspiration. It was a common theme to have a
small copy of the cover next to the article about
the cover model.
• I structured the article to go around the images to
bring more attention to the photos. I will do the
same on my final product to keep that attention
on the photos.
• I put a black boarder on the edge of the page but
then decided to half the size and duplicate the
layer, placing one on the opposite corner of the
page.
• At the very end, I thought that there was
something missing on the page, so I drew some
hearts over the top to make it look like someone
had drawn over it. I thought it came out nicely and
I will keep the same aesthetic on my final double
page spread.

7. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your
final product?
• The experimental double page spread, came out how I
want my final one to be. I will use this as a guide because I
like the layout. I will also keep the drawing over the
pictures and the text over them – this will make it look
more arty and niche.
• The pictures I use will be in a similar layout – one main one
with smaller ones around. The main one will be slightly
different to the others, making it stand out more.
• The headline of the article will be placed over the top of
the images so it looks more relaxed, unlike a newspaper
where it is placed on the top of the page.
