2. Conventions from other professional magazines that I
conformed to that might help attract my target
audience:
My Front
cover Professional
I conformed to the conventions of
placing the masthead across the top
centre of the front cover. I also have very
small and short sell lines to keep the page
looking very slick and clean which is
stereotypically done in R&B magazines.
Another convention I conformed to is the
headline being the second biggest text
on the page after the header which says
the artists/models name that is on the
front cover. I also have the usual
barcode, date and issue number. Also
there is a mid-shot of a young black
model on my front cover which is also
very common and would attract my
target audience.
3. My Contents
Page
Professional
My contents page follows some
conventions of R&B magazine contents
pages such as images of females in a
sexualised manner to attract the
attention of males to make them want to
read further. Also, limited amount of text
because too much text on one page
can over throw a reader who has bought
a magazine to look at pictures and find
out bit of gossip within the genre.
However, to attract my target audience
even more I gave my magazine a USP to
stand out from other similar magazines
which is my offer of downloading the
HYPE app and reading the magazine on
the app or the website for a discounted
price.
4. My Contents
Page
My double page spread conforms to conventions of double page spreads as I have an image on one
side of the page and the article on the other. I was inspired by professional double page spreads to
have my image going all the way across the two pages, hence why the brick wall is also behind the text.
I used the models name as the heading of article to capture the readers attention and that is followed
by an interesting and ambiguous quote from the article to intrigue the readers to make them want to
read more. Something that I included in my double page spread that not many articles have is a smaller
image within the article to give the reader something to imagine when reading the article; to really
involve them.
5. Audience research and feedback
Before I began my production I carried out questionnaires, surveys and interviews and
gathered information and ideas of what my target audience would like and expect from a
R&B music magazine. If you watch my YouTube clip on the genre section on this blog you will
see that I was told that black and white would be suitable and appropriate colour for this
magazine which I took on board. My research also influenced my to have my model on the
front cover dressed with a crown, fur and bling.
FEEDBACK
“ I really admire the royal
theme on the front cover,
the background, the
models facial expression,
costume and props really
blends together well.”
“I like how the
contents page is
easy and simple to
read and navigate,
the pictures also
give me a good
idea o what to
expect on the inside
on the magazine.”
“The whole
colour scheme
on the double
page spread
really appeals to
me as it all just
flows so
smoothly.”
