This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Project proposal title and date:
Main area of activity:
My in area of activity will be in film.
Rationale:
Throughout the last two years I have created products such as a music video, podcast and a video
game and a short documentary. I have learnt vital skills in software such as Premiere Pro,
Photoshop, Audition and InDesign. I have learnt how to edit clips together, add various different
effects to clips, add music in sync with clips and various other skills I would need to create a short
film.
Project Concept:
My project is going to be a short horror film about a group of people who get lost in some woods
and are followed by a monster they can't see. I also plan to create a poster to go alongaide. There
is a lot of research I will need to conduct to make sure I have the best idea for what I am doing
when planning out and creating my project. I will research existing films, within the same genre
and themes. I will research scripts and storyboards and shot lists from already existing films,
costume design specifically for villains/monsters, sfx and postproduction. Alongside this I will
research lighting and camera techniques used in the horror genre and music in the horror genre as
the score is a particularly important part of creating atmosphere and tensity in films. Researching
these things will really help me in production as I will have a very clear idea of what I am doing
going into it, especially since there is a lot of uncertainty around the production aspect of this
project at the moment.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my work by doing an evaluation at the end of every day, writing about positives
and negatives, what I could have done better and including screenshots of the work I have done. I
will also do a final evaluation once the project is completed. I also plan to do a peer evaluation at
the end of the production stage, which alongside my own evaluation, I hope will help me to
understand strengths and weaknesses better than I have done with past products.
