Project proposal title and date:
Timetold: a documentary into classic and modern horror 12/10/20
Main area of activity
The field I will be doing will be a factual documentation. It will hold a few subjective comments
coming from me but most of it is factual. The basis of what it will be horror and it will be an
educational documentary to young filmmakers. It will shine light on classical horror as well as
modern. So not only will the viewer of some useful information about classical horror but it’s
information that I have also learnt from my research.
Target Audience
The age my project is aimed at is will be between 16-24-year olds. The main reason I have picked
this age as my target audience is because it is aimed towards young filmmakers who are taking
this career seriously. It will be rather formal and presented in an educational style that will
breakdown the methods of what you might need to do to become director. In terms of gender it’s
difficult to pinpoint who it’s aimed for. Horror has mostly been aimed at the male audience but
through the years the attraction towards it has become mutual for both genders. With social class
this will be aimed at middle class section of people. The reason I have picked this social class
because in terms of stereotyping. Most middle-class people are more ambitious. They are doing
what they want to do in order to achieve their goals. Lower class people are happier with their lives
because they don’t know any different and will take anything to carry on but middle-class people
want to build on something they haven’t quite got yet. This is branded among the belonger
category. It’s aimed at a small-town people audience that have big ambitions and want to be
involved with the film industry one day. This belongs with social type A. These types of people
want to make the world better. This documentary focuses on the classical horror techniques that
were done well and how they can be brough back. It is through pointing out these techniques. That
young filmmakers can learn what was done so well back then.
Rationale:
The biggest skill that I have required this year which will be essential for this project will be my
improvements on using the video editing software adobe premiere pro, My confidence has I
improved massively over the course of the year of the video and video game based softwares, I
will use this software to edit my documentary on. Whilst I have not learnt anything new this year
that’s needed for this project. I have certainly improved on the skills I learnt last year. My
confidence has improved massively, and I feel a lot more confident using my camera. I will use this
camera to film my documentary. Though I’ll be in front of the camera. So, I’ll have to direct first and
then be in front of it.
Project Concept:
The concept my project is a documentary showing the differences between classical and modern
horror. Reviewing techniques and looking at directors that have done it right. The documentary will
also be looking at the strengths of modern and classical horror as well as their weaknesses. I will
also be conducting research that will involve looking at the directors that I will be talking about.
Mainly James wan as he will be the main director, I will be looking at, but I will be looking at others
to. It will also include existing interviews and clips from existing products that are horror based and
relate to what I am talking about. This documentary is about presenting the question to the
audience of which do you prefer classic or modern and then presenting the same question at the
end. This will make them think and make them wonder if the documentary has had a knock-on
effect with them.

What is your intended aim:
My intend aim is to show how powerful the public responses are to the future of what they
are critique. I want young filmmakers to decide upon what they think is best. The new
approach is always the best approach and the best way to do that is to test out different
idea by bringing someone new to the industry. Of course, experience helps, and you
wouldn’t get someone who knows nothing about the film industry. However, a new face
coming up with an idea is a lot better than experienced one. As the chances are, they
won’t be re-using the same ideas and concepts.
How will it be shot:
This will be shot on my camera which is a canon 600D with my attachable. Nifty fifty lens.
It will be presented in a formal style. Of me wearing smart casual wear. I will be sat down
in front of a white wall and when shown on the screen I will be in some shots but I will
also be shown on the bottom corner whenever I’m presenting or critiquing something
which the audience can see.
Genre:
Documentary/horror/slasher/hammer house
Subject idea/Synopsis:
This project will be about old horror vs new horror. It will be presented in a way where
both sides are taking in each other and will have a point system. Weighing up the various
benefactors on why each side is great. This will include looking at the directors (modern
and classic) and seeing what techniques they made in order to make the product to look
good.
Topic Structure:
1- Introduction to the topic: What it is that is being discussed why is it going to be discussed and what the
two sides are.
2- Looking into each side of the argument: How the effects for horror have got much better over the
years? Look at argue mental facts and points that respect and support this viewpoint. How story telling
has become worse over the years and why it is more important than visual storytelling. Look at
arguments, facts and points that respect and support this viewpoint.
3- Breakdown the various ideas that have been good over the years. Noting what techniques, they have
done well over the years and why they got a point for it one. Looking at quick clips that is give of
examples of this for evidence
4- Breakdown into James wan as a director. Why he is so successful. What has he done that has worked
so well and what films has he made?
5- Conclusion: count the total amount of point and announce the winner of the two. Discuss my views on
the point and what I think is the winner. Exit out of the documentary with a goodbye.
6- Credits
I will spend approx. 1 minute per subject. Some will only take 30 seconds, and some will take longer than a
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
When I have my product finished, I will have gone through the process of what I said and how it
looks. Not only does the presentation have to look good but the presentation of the script. Even
though I will be doing three scripts. I will know that the finalised one is the best once it is on
screen. I will also ask not only the people personal to me but other people too. Asking them if my
final product looks as good as they think.

intro/outro to my main project. As well as the video
of me that I filmed at the beginning.Once everything
is finalised.I will then be ableto export my project.
Be aware which of those weeks are in or out of college,as you may need to plan di fferent tasks around other
work when workingremotely. Budget for approximately 30 hours for production – which is roughly two weeks
of your in collegetime.
