Working Title:
YODI International
Audience:
The target audience for my magazine is art student or teenagers aged 14-19 who are interested in
art and culture. This could also include students in areas of: fashion, media, photography, art or
design. My magazine will appeal to these people as the whole magazine will surround the arts. For
example, a person of science would not enjoy my magazine as much as an arts student would,
simply because it does not advocate to them. This magazine will give insight to teenagers who are
interested in the arts but struggle to understand which part of the arts attract them. I want the
magazine to be able to give these people a look into what the arts is and how many sectors there
are. I don’t want gender to affect who reads my magazine, people think that just because it’s a
fashion magazine, it is made for women. However, I want YODI International to be for anyone,
whatever gender.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The first print project I did, I received the best grade out of any project I had done that year. It was
also the project that I enjoyed the most. The skills I have gained from using programs such as
Photoshop and PremierePro, will help me when it comes to the production side of this project.
Using these programs for personal use has also boosted my ability and skills in these areas.
As I have done a print project before, I am able to use the feedback from tutors in order to see
where my strong points were, but most importantly, where my weak points were. This means that I
can know straight away what needs more attention when I am creating this project. This means
that I can balance my time in this project, and really focus on the parts that need more aid.
It is also helpful that the last print project I did was a similar concept to the project that I am doing
now. I know what I need to research and what aesthetic works and what doesn’t. studying these
magazines earlier in the year is helping me now, as I know which magazine I should research in
more depth, rather then wasting time research magazines I won’t look at again.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project is to create a magazine that shows the arts – like i-D. I will create
alternate covers – both in a different style – 3 double page spreads – each with a different topic for
the article – then an advert for a perfume, with a short video advert to go along with it. The style of
my project will be inspired by niche, edgy magazines. I will have to research photographers whom
take photos in the style that I wish to get, e.g. Sam Dameshek, Ryan McGinley. This will help me
see how I can get my photos right – placement, editing, locations, props – in order for them to fit in
with my magazine.
Considering I am aiming to create for an audience 14-19, I will research magazines that advocate
to these ages, and evaluate what they include and layout their pages, in order to draw in the
reader. This will mean that my magazine will appeal to my target audience in an accurate way. As I
want to also create a perfume advert alongside, looking at curated perfume adverts would help me
extend my knowledge, thus aiding my creativity when planning and production of the video.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
In order to properly evaluate my work successfully, I will look back at previous print projects and
compare the differences throughout the duration of the final project. This will help me stay on track,
to ensure that my production can be as good as it can be. Keeping a progress diary will help me,
to see which parts worked better then others and where I made mistakes along the way of the
project.
