The student learned several important skills for creating a magazine from their preliminary task to the full project. They learned that magazines typically do not use strokes, about selecting appropriate image types for covers and spreads, and how to adapt a magazine for different genres and subgenres while considering colors and fonts. The student also learned about including a variety of people and topics in the contents page, keeping the logo consistent, and adding an editor's note. Creating the double page spread provided an opportunity to learn layout conventions from scratch.
1. Looking back at your preliminary
task what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full project?
2. From my preliminary task to my full
project feel I have learnt a lot of new
skills of how to produce a magazine.
One of the main things that stood out
for me was that in the preliminary
task I used a stroke on almost
everything however after doing more
research into magazine I have learnt
that they don’t tend to use stroke.
Another thing that stood out to me
was the image and the shot type. I
have learnt what sort of images
appear on the cover contents and
double page spread of a magazine. I
have learnt how to adapt a magazine
to a certain genre and subgenre and
about how important the colours and
fonts are to getting this right.
3. I have learnt that more
than one person will be
shown through out the
contents page of a
magazine and that it is
important to have a
variety of different
people or topics in the
magazine. I have also
learnt that it is important
to keep the logo through
out the front cover and
contents age. Another
thing I have learnt is that
there is often an editors
not on the contents page.
4. Creating a double page spread was
something I have never done before
so I therefore had to learn all the
conventions from scratch with
nothing to look back on and improve.
Although it was a challenge I feel I
was successful in creating a
professional looking double page
spread. I have learnt that having the
picture over both pages makes it look
more professional. Also to include
columns and page numbers.
