I was born in the woods. Technically speaking, I was born at West Side Hospital in Nashville,
Tennessee, but brought home and raised in the woods. Five years before I arrived, my parents
purchased nine acres of land in Tennessee and built a house that backed into four hundred acres of
land. It was heavily covered in trees and brush a place where all of God s handiwork was still in its
original state. They cleared away just enough land for a house and a small yard; the rest belonged to

From the time I could walk, the outdoors called to me. When the sun was up, I was outside exploring,
