Donald Trump Weaknesses
The purpose of this essay is to assess whether Donald Trump, the Republican Nominee for the
Presidency, has made effective programmatic appeals to groups in the American electorate in
order to build a successful coalition. This essay will argue while Donald Trump has made
programmatic appeals to the political typology groups Steadfast Conservatives, Business
Conservatives, Young Outsiders, and hard pressed skeptics; however he has not made substantial
programmatic appeals to Solid Liberals, Next Generation Left or Faith and Family left. First this
essay will establish a foundation on the 2016 Presidential election and the Pew Research centres

Trump and which typologies Trump should focus on appealing to; finally this essay will determine

Ku Klux Klan Influence
Various inhabitants of the US have a sense of nationalism and American pride within their souls and
hearts. However, in a particular case of US history, this very pride lead to a radical nationalist
organization that was able to recruit a phenomenal 5,000,000 members, lynch thousands of innocent
minorities, break national news, dominate the American legislature, break fear into millions of
individuals, and ultimately still exist today. This group is identified as none other but the infamous
Ku Klux Klan. A ruthless and widespread organization in the United States that successfully
illuminated itself as being 100% American in the late 19th century and to date. In an illustration, the
reason for the KKK s dominance in the turning points of America... Show more content on

The very first set of these measures was violent and killed many in the process, and in this case,
the actions were against primarily Blacks and minorities. The first acts of brutality included
lynchings ranging anywhere from tens to hundred of Blacks. A prime example of such behavior
occurred in January 1871, when 500 masked men attacked a union jail and lynched over 8 Black
men while leaving others severely injured ( Ku Klux Klan ). In other cases, the KKK would attack
and attempt to assassinate Blacks in the American legislature in an effort to bring back pure White
dominance that existed before reconstruction. Furthermore, the KKK would outright commit
homicide to minorities in the US, and as a result, it is estimated that the Klan murdered nearly
1,000 Blacks in Texas alone due to the klan s actions. Likewise, it was also not uncommon for the
Klan to kill Jews, Catholics, and immigrants (Schuyler). Lastly, the Klan also participated in night
raids. In this case, the group would go out at night and attack the properties of mainly Blacks and
supporters of Reconstruction. The Klansmen disguised themselves in white robes which hid their
identity along with the mass of the crowd. Also, because of the anonymity, tracking individuals

Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Series Of The Parables
I entered Butler University as an English major believing that what we choose to read changes the
way we think, and literature shapes the society we live in. I later changed my major to International
Studies, an interdisciplinary course of study, which allowed me to foster my understanding of the
global society, the complexities of intercultural interactions, and the ability to apply political
theories to interpret one situation from multiple perspectives. When choosing the topic for my
senior thesis, I was torn between delving into a political crisis or taking the opportunity to re visit
my love of literature in an academic framework. Speculative fictionis the crossroads I have found

Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom.
Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a
technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes
on to point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what
is good (Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that good is usually considered to be a varied concept that
is open to human interpretation and construction; however, natural selection commensurates the
incommensurable (1244). Hardin s proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal
society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for
selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly
discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or commons for which
many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and
polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created cesspool (1245). Hardin s
interpretation challenges traditional morals that stem

Benefits Of Physical Recreation
In the United States of America, early development of documented recreation began in the late late
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Vast amounts of physical recreation include cycling,
hiking, participating in a dance class, basketball, etc. Controversially, recreation has no documented
definition due to the varying meaning among individuals. Recreation, stemming from the Latin
form recreation, translates to restoration to health. Recreation can be generally considered activity
that people engage in during their free time in a form of enjoyment. Physical recreation is the same
concept, differing only in the form a physical activity. The restoration from physical recreation can
range from feelings of time distortion, an escape, personal development, personal renewal, a
psychological experience in naturel, etc. This restoration often restores or recreates an individual
and is generally mentally and physically up building (Torkildsen, 2009). Physical recreation
provides multiple physical and mental benefits.
Physical recreation has multiple benefits, including an increase in life expectancy. About one in
every three U.S. adults or 30.4 percent, do not engage in leisure time physical activity. (AHA) This
is an estimated 7 in 10 American adults. (Schoenborn, 2002, April 7). (California) A sedentary
lifestyle, and in most cases along with imbalanced nutrition, can lead to varying health danger. The

Concert Paper
On Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 p.m, I attended The Lebanon Valley College Chamber
Orchestra and String Chamber Ensembles . It took place at the Lutz Hall. This hall is located at
the Blair Music Center (LVC). It can fit up to 500 people. This time there was about 50 60
people. For this event, the hall was not decorated as I expected. It had a camera in the middle,
recording the concert and that s about it. The stage was big, it fit the 26 members of the orchestra
comfortably.
Entering the hall, there was a guy with the programs on his hand. He was very sympathetic. He
handed one (program) to everyone that came in. Inside the program, there was the performances the

the performances. The first performance was Mc Mozart s Eine kleine bricht Moonlicht Nicht

members. Two girls and two boys. Two of them played the violin, one the viola and the other one
the cello. Since this was the opening of the concert I thought they were going to play something
longer. They also didn t have an intro, which surprised me a little bit. But the overall
performance was great. It was very calm and relaxing and everyone seemed to enjoy it. There
were four other performances. Five Sketches for string trio Op.23, Quintet in d minor, Concerto
Grosso Op 3, No. 4 in F major and the last one was Symphony No. 104 in F Major (London). All of
them were not that long. I noticed that on the last two performances they added more people. On
the Concerto Grosso there was 15 members in total and on the Symphony there was 26. After
each performance there was a break . On that break all they did was prep the stage for the others.
Some of the things they did was, add/ remove chairs and music

Symbolic Religious Language
Religious symbols and languages are widely used in advertisements to appeal certain audiences or
for the sake of creativity and originality. As you can see, this Heinz ketchup advertisement
incorporated religious symbol and language into their creative work. Symbolic religious language
has three primary characteristics: It points to something beyond itself it is transcendent. It is
complex it has layers of meaning. And it is often paradoxical it contains two opposing ideas (Bond,
Symbol). This particular advertisement portrays the complexity and paradox of the religious
symbols and languages based on their biblical interpretations. The serpent in the advertisement
refers to the serpent from the Garden of Eden, where the serpent deceives Eve to eat the forbidden
fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God, let the serpent to tempt Adam and Eve to have a choice of either obedience or disobedience.
Due to the disobedience of Adam and Eve, we are born sinful and through our journey, we are
given free will to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior who died to forgive our sin.
Additionally, the way that this particular advertisement used the serpent and the forbidden fruit can
be interpreted in a paradox. After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they immediately noticed
their shame, the nakedness, and the act of disobedience against God. Which eventually led them to
exile from the Garden of Eden. However, in this advertisement, you can eat this fit ketchup that
contains less sugar and will not feel shame or guilt. It will actually benefit the consumer to consume

The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents
How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who
behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? You have said from the
beginning she loves us so much and is fearful of doing or saying anything to cause us to dislike
her. Can you imagine going through any of the above stated with your son or daughter?
The dichotomy here is that Jessie likes and loves your parents, but you say she finds your mother s
gestures of kindness and caring as sometimes insincere, intrusive, etc., and senses your mother
wants more in the relationship than she. In some sense, your wife finds your parents offensive to
her sensibilities. Do you not ponder the facts? At some point, as sweet and ... Show more content on

We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The
problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You
were triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully
functioning family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between
them and not involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by
getting out of one s comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every
family, no doubt, has a dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid
intentions.
The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school
psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this
dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being
triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of
three characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational
problems that others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ).
Through the depths of the challenge one breaks through and accepts people for all of their usual,
normal, characteristic selves. When there is no empathy for one s perception of

Women And The American Dream
The American Dream is the belief that every person in the United States has an equal opportunity
to become successful. However, some people are not entitled to the American Dream. Many
Americans are not treated equally under the law. Some of the groups lose their right to vote, have
a more difficult time finding jobs, or are a group that has been forgotten by politicians. The
American Dream is a controversial issue today because many groups in America have claimed that
they have not received the chance to have it. Some of the groups that are marginalized are women,
people of color, and immigrants that have come to America. Women are not entitled to the
American Dream like men are. In the Declaration of Independence, it only refers to men... Show

Females are not the only group that do not have access to the American Dream, minorities also have
a difficult time getting the American Dream. Furthermore, minorities are often times denied the
right to the American Dream. In the history of the United States, non whites have been mistreated
and have been treated as different in society. In the poetry, Being Brought from Africa to
America , by Phillis Wheatley it discusses how many people in America view people of color. In
the poem it states, Some view our sable race with scornful eye, / Their color is a diabolic die
(Wheatley 73). In the poem Wheatley describes how people of color are looked down upon in
society. In addition, Wheatley states that some white people think that her skin color is a
diabolic die which implied that the color of the person s skin is evil. Throughout history people
of color have been segregated, discriminated, and suppressed. All of those things make it more
difficult for minorities to achieve success because they are not given the chance to succeed. The
American Dream could be possible for minorities if they were recognized as equals in society in
addition to being treated equally under the law. Phillis Wheatley also states, Remember, Christians,
Negros, black as Cain, / May be refin d, and join th angelic train (Wheatley 73). In the quote the

The Contrasting Development of Democratic and...
Two states, developing as either a democratic or authoritarian regime, could be expected to undergo
different paths over the course of fifty years. While this opportunity of observational research is
unlikely to occur, it presents itself to analysis implementing secured theories regarding the
tendencies of both forms of government. A democratic regime, defined by popular sovereignty and
political equality, deeply contrasts the inequality and singular rule synonymous with
authoritarianism. The differences in the two states would be most notable in regard to tendencies
regarding international relations, economic development, as well as the level of internal stability
resulting from the decisions made by political leader. The dissimilarities... Show more content on

It is likely that the authoritarian country would be less developed economically because of effects
stemming from inefficiency in the provision of public goods. As opposed to democracies, more apt
to proficiency in this realm, authoritarian rulers may avoid providing sufficient goods in order to
prevent overthrow. Public goods, in adequate supply, have a tendency to promote economic growth.
While this growth would be looked upon in a positive light by democratic regimes, as the positive
benefits of increased wealth act to reduce economic polarization on course to the decreased
presence of redistributive conflicts, an authoritarian ruler would view the provision of these goods
in sufficient quantity as a resource to fuel proletariat uprising (122). The tendencies regarding
public goods would leave the authoritarian state incapable of reaching the economic vitality of the
democratic state, which, in asserting the stimulant of institutional stability, has further provided an
environment welcoming to innovation and development (125). Following fifty years of
development, the authoritarian and democratic states would be expected to show separation in their
experiences with internal stability. Authoritarian regimes are characterized by their ability to
deliver basic human necessities. Independent and democratic countries, for example, are set apart
by their notable ability to avoid famine. While these occurrences are common in authoritarian

Milestone 2 Task 3: Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist and Angels
Introduction
The title of this artwork is Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist and Angels. It
was created by François Boucher in Paris. It was painted in the year 1765. It was painted with oil
on a canvas. This painting is housed in the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, New York. In
this painting, Boucher wonderfully depicts the Virgin Maryand the baby Jesus, along with a toddler
Saint John the Baptist and a lamb, having a picnic together. They are being watched over by five
small cherub angels up in the heavens.
Subject Matter and Interpretation
The subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus, the young Saint John the
Baptist and the angels who are up in the clouds. The Virgin Mary is looking at baby Jesus with
the love of a mother. We see her dressed in a long white dress and a long blue robe for cover. We
see the baby Jesus wrapped in warm blankets seeming to be enjoying the closeness of his mother.
We see the young Saint John the Baptist sitting off to the right wearing a sheepskin, with his
hands together, most likely praying to the baby Jesus and the Lord himself. The young Saint John
the Baptist is also followed by a young lamb. The angels are watching over the group on earth but
enjoying each other s company as well. We see the angel on the far right kissing the angel to the
left of them on the head. The two angels to the far

Personalizaton through Searches on Google and Facebook is...
Worldwide there is an underlying issue within search engines and social media. This issue is
becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook
increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want
to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser
argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could
broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to
consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with
technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This
invisible filter is now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for
every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public
not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to
create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source
of sites it thinks it s consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with
specific relevant information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and
Facebook revolves around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users

Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts
Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might
have almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the
intertemporal issue of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878,
Ibsen writes A woman cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society
with laws drafted by men, and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male
point of view. The femaleprotagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the
society s need of forming womenthat are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful
mothers, but in general, obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. In
Plenty, the audience gets to examine years of Susan Traherne s life, from her World War II
activity as a courier in the French Renaissance to her emotional privation in the post Suez British
plenty . Even after the war, Susan cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and
conventions disharmonize with her own opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs
Alving and Susan is that as women they are expected to fit into a certain role in the real life,
directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes their personal fulfilment.
To begin with, Ghosts is a play that does not solely examine the society s pressure on the women,
but the impact of society on every individual regardless of gender.

In Defense of the Original Ending of Great Expectations
Many critics prefer the original ending to the revised version because it is the ending that Dickens
himself decided to write without consulting anyone. Many people believe that since Bulwer Lytton
gave Dickens input on the second ending that it is not as true. Although Dickens may have
inadvertently been plagiarizing, the original ending is the way that Dickens felt the novel should
end, as opposed to the way Bulwer Lytton felt it should end.
Another reason that the original is preferable is because it seems to flow better with the overall
themes of the novel. One of these themes is how people expectations differ from reality. Pip s
expectations never seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He never would have been embarrassed about Joe if he did not expect to live a better life than
him. When Dickens gives Pip the possibility of happiness with Estella in the revised ending, he
completely undermines the lesson he was teaching Pip and the reader.
A related theme that is carried through in this ending is the idea of mistaken identities. Estella
mistakes little Pip for Pip s son, when he is really the son of Joe and Biddy. This is like how Pip
mistakes Miss Havisham for the one who gives him his expectations when it is really Magwitch.
In the original ending of Great Expectations, there is no Chapter 59, and Dickens reunites Pip
and Estella in four short paragraphs. Although this ending is generally referred to as the unhappy
ending since Pip and Estella definitely part ways again, it does give the reader hope that Estella
finally understands how she treated Pip. This is important because it ties Estella and Pip together
by the fact that they are both able to feel remorse for the way they treated other people. In Estella s
case, she mistreated Pip, but after suffering at the hands of Drummle, she is finally able to
empathize with Pip. She understands what it is like to be under the control of another human
being. Throughout the novel, it is Estella who has power over Pip and every other man she meets.
However, during her marriage, Estella is subjected to outrageous treatment (440), physical abuse,
from Drummle.

New Beijing, New Olympics was the motto for the 2008 Beijing Olympic, this was the first
Olympic that China was hosting in Olympics history. Andrew Morris, the author of Marrow of the

Western idea and those thought to be from Chinese traditions, into visions of a new China. Morris
surrounds the book around the sporting culture in playing a crucial role in the making of the

human rights standards, higher living standards, environmental progress, cleaner air, faster
infrastructure development, new communications and sewage treatment facilities, unification with
Taiwan, and even more sanitary public toilets. (p.244) I understand what he meant because if you

Essay On Martha Graham
Martha Graham: dancer, teacher, choreographer, mother of 20th century dance. Martha is
recognized as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. Her dance
technique and style was constantly growing and expanding through experimentation of what the
body could do based on its own structure. I wanted to begin, she said, not with characters or ideas,
but with movement (World Biography). She believed that the purpose of dancewas to create an

Not many years later, George Graham dies suddenly, leaving
Martha an open opportunity to enroll into a school of art.
From the years 1913 1916, Martha attended the Cumnock School of Expression, a junior college in
Santa Barbara where she would study academic and practical theater arts. This is where her dancing
experience would technically begin, as the students had interpretive dancing three times per week.
In 1916, Graham enrolled into the Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn
School of Dance in Los Angeles. The school taught ballet, ethnic dance, music, codified dramatic
gestures, makeup, lighting, costumes, dance history, Greek philosophy, and yoga and
meditation. At age 22, Martha had a late start for training, yet was still serious and intent on
becoming a prestigious dancer. Martha s body was very supple and strong and had the ability to
project most every dramatic movement. She had an extremely flexible body and was very small
yet often appeared to be taller. She was also very disciplined and precise. Ruth ultimately was
unimpressed by Graham s abilities, yet Shawn was drawn to her diligence and memory of the
steps and movements. Martha began performing in 1919 and was given her first leading role in the
piece Xochitl in 1920. Soon after Martha s success in this production, Louis Horst, a pianist for the
Denishawn Company, becomes her strong critic, influence, and mentor of hers. Graham leaves

Interview Summary Of Peter Holloway s On Virtual...
Interview summary for Peter Holloway, conducted on October 8, 2015 by Anita Sommer for the IRI
Virtual Experimentation and Simulation project.
Peter Holloway is a Systems Engineer with Rolls Royce Limited. He leads a team of simulation
tool developers that code, refine, and integrate existing modeling tools that are used in the
preliminary design phases of their jet engines. The preliminary design stages involve identifying
candidate engine architectures, preparing proposals, and presenting proposals to customers such as
Boeing and Airbus. Peter has been involved in simulation for about ten years in a number of
different companies and at various levels. His team consists mostly of domain experts that have lent
themselves to programming, with between three and five years of systems design experience.
Rolls Royce has a culture of allowing its engineering staff to develop experimentation and
simulation tools within their domain of expertise. Often however, these domain experts are not
experienced programmers and the tools the engineers develop are used by only a few people within
that domain. Peters team takes these tools, improves the code, making the tools more robust, and
most importantly from a simulation point of view, making the different tools talk to each other in
whole system simulation software.
Rolls Royce Ltd. uses virtual experimentation and simulation on both their products and processes
because it helps the company meet cost and time objectives when delivering

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead By Tom Stoppard
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead is a very captivating book! It is a tragicomedy written
by Tom Stoppard. This book was written in 1964, also known to be during the devastating
Vietnam War. The play was published in 1967, and it played on Broadway in 1968. It won the Tony
for best play. It is based off of the very famous book Hamletwhich was written by the very famous
William Shakespeare. It is the point of view of two characters from Hamlet: Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead is the most famous book and play that Tom
Stoppard wrote and made him famous practically overnight!

Unlike them, Hamlet does not seem confused by the world. He lights the scene, then plunges it into
darkness. His ability to control what viewers see indicates his power. He changes and affects people
s lives in ways that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern cannot. For example, he kills Polonius, then
disposes of the body. When Hamlet speaks, he frequently confuses other characters with riddles.
Hamlet reads the letter ordering his execution in England. But he reads it silently, masking whatever
emotion he might be feeling about his friends betrayal. Regardless of whether he is actually insane,
Hamlet s rational behavior stands in contrast to the slow, puzzled demeanor displayed by
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern stand in for humanity as a whole.
Unlike real people, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern lack imaginative power and memory. For
instance, Rosencrantz cannot imagine England. He tells Guildenstern that he cannot picture
himself leaving the ship or speaking to the king. Rosencrantz cannot imagine the future. But neither
he nor Guildenstern remembers who has the letter for the English king. They cannot learn from
their mistakes, nor can they conceive of acting in any way other than what they have done before.
Each moment exists separately from the one that came before or the one that is to come, so that
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are constantly being surprised by their situations.

Irony In The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
The theme of The Necklace, a short story by Guy de Maupassant, is that being honest is the best
course of action. Another theme of The Necklace would be that honesty is the best policy. Both
of those are equally good, and they both carry the same message and meaning. People often make
the decision to lie about making mistakes or losing something of a friend, usually to avoid causing
depression if there is a prized possession involved. That is why The Necklaceis a great example of
that situation. In the story, Guy de Maupassant uses characterization, irony, and internal conflict
to display how honesty is the best policy. Irony is used in the story in order to show how letting
pride get in the way of being honest can lead to embarrassment. Madame Loisel loses the diamond

To start, we note that there is no allegation that Yelp directly threatened economic harm if the
business owners refused to purchase advertising packages from Yelp. While the lack of such
express threats does not alone dispose of the extortion claims, see United States v. Marsh, 26 F.3d
1496, 1501 (9th Cir. 1994), it does make the business owners case considerably more difficult.
Absent explicit threats of economic harm, the business owners must allege sufficient facts to
support the inference, In re Century Aluminum Co. Sec. Litig., 729 F.3d 1104, 1107 (9th Cir.
2013), that Yelp inten[ded] . . . to induce payment through the use of threats or the exploitation of
[economic] fears, United States v. Greger, 716 F.2d 1275, 1278 (9th Cir. 1983). Applying this
standard, we conclude that the business owners have not alleged sufficient facts to support their
claim that Yelp authored negative user reviews of the businesses in question. For these reasons and
the reasons explained in Part II.B of this opinion, we conclude that none of the business owners
have stated a claim of unlawful conduct on the basis of extortion. We therefore affirm the dismissal
of the separate claims of civil extortion and attempted civil extortion, as

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see
the shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the
narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the
time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and
moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their
arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way
back. The pilgrims stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The
wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also
harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the
Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in
the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean,
moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The
Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able
to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, Now hold on, Robin, dear old brother;/ We ll get some

Sources of Mercury and Health Effect
Sources of Mercury and Health Effect
Mercury is a naturally occurring element found in the earth s crust that can be found as the
elemental or metallic mercury or in many organic and inorganic compounds. Mercury is a metal
that when at room temperature is a silvery liquid metal and is often called one of the heavy metals.
Mercury can evaporate like water, and become airborne. It is an element that does not break down
into a less toxic substance. Once mercury escapes into the environment it will continue to circulate
in and out of the atmosphere until it ends up at the bottoms of lakes and oceans. It cannot be created
or destroyed (UWM, 2004). The most common or leading source of mercury in the environment is
atmospheric deposition. Once mercury has reached the atmosphere it can circulate for years which
make up for the extensive distribution in the environment. The natural sources that contribute to
atmospheric mercury are volcanoes, geologic deposits of mercury, weathering of rocks and
volatilization from the ocean. Rocks, sediments, water and soil also naturally contain small
amounts of mercury; scientists have even found some local mineral occurrences and thermal
springs that are natural high in mercury (USGS, 2009). Secondary sources of mercury result from
burning fossil fuels and smelting metals. Mercury is also a by product of gold and zinc mining.
Mercury is also found in many rocks one of them being coal, when coal is burned in power plants

Complex Relationships Between Characters in A Dollhouse by Henrik Ibsen A Dollhouse by
Henrik Ibsen is the story of one woman s struggle to free herself from a world of guilt and false
livelihood. The story is based on the author s own account of a fellow friend and journalist
named Laura Peterson Kieler who was burdened with a hidden crime just as Nora, the main
character, is(Ibsen, 1785). According to Ibsen, Kieler illegally borrowed money with the help of

her ailing husband s medical needs. Ibsen s storyline in A Dollhouse is an exact replica of the

The titled dollhouse is created because of the way they act toward each other. Nora, being
Torvald s baby and unmovable attachment, and Torvald being the domineering master of the
household. Their entire relationship is based on a false sense of reality created by their baby
like banter and the nievity in which they carry out the day to day actions of their lives. For
example, Torvald calls Nora his little lark (Ibsen, 1668) and little squirrel (Ibsen, 1668).
Although this simple name calling may be considered romantic and loving, there is a hidden
side to both characters that is concealed in these childish actions. Helmer grows accustom to
being the father figure to Nora and in essence begins to believe in its false meaning. Their
relationship is need based not only from a financial standpoint but from the need for future
respect as well. The author states Nora is happy because she sees the future in wholly economic
terms. (Hemmer, 1790) Nora has to keep her doll like image to ensure her future and also to keep
her secrets and true identity from being revealed.(Ibsen, 71) She believes that if her strong
independent side is shown to her husband he will find out all the things she is hiding including her
criminal relationship with Krogstad. Torvald keeps his place in the acting dollhouse because he
has hidden feelings like Nora s that will ruin his good guy reputation if out in the open.

Gilgamesh Female Characters
In this paper, I am going to analyze the female characters that caught my attention the most in the
three stories The Epic of Gilgamesh, Thousand and One Nights, and Candide. They all are
important characters in each of the stories and their influence in the story is to help. These stories
also depict how women were being treated during these times such as being used for their bodies
and wisdom. The characters that I will be analyzing in the paper are Shamhat, Ishtar, Shiduri,
Sharazad, the Old Woman, and Cunegonde. In all three stories, they mostly share the same
depictions of the role of women and how women weren t really important besides their bodies.
To start off, there were three characters from The Epic of Gilgameshthat interested me, so I will
begin by analyzing them. The first character was Shamhat. She was a hierodule, temple prostitute,
that Gilgamesh used to help civilize Enkidu. Besides being a prostitute, she caught my attention
because of her caring personality and generosity. She did things that she wasn t obligated to do
such as taking off some of her clothing to cloth Enkidu. She also went out of her way to teach
Enkidu how to eat, dress himself, and keep himself groomed like a human being should.
Shamhat isn t a jealous or possessive lover, she prepared Enkidu for life outside of the wild and
let him discover the world on his own. Shamhat was ultimately a positive figure in the story and in
Enkidu s life because she inspires him to move further in life

The Film More Than A Month
In the film More Than a Month by filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman, Tilghman argues that we
should end Black History Month for once and for all. In this film he attempts to demonstrate the
truth about BHM and examine what might happen if BHM no longer existed. Tilghman argues
that Black History is American History , and he believes that the only solution to this problem is to
end BHM and incorporate it all year around. So the question is: should we end Black History Month
? This is an extremely controversial question which has been asked all over the world for many
years. Everyone has their own opinion and beliefs about whether to end BHM or not, but there isn t
a correct answer.
As decades have passed there have been many issues that involve BHM. For example, BHM no
longer has the same meaning that Carter G. Woodson intended for it when he created it in 1926. He
instituted Negro Week primarily for the benefit of black Americans who were unaware of their
contributions to American History. Woodson wanted to educate blacks and white Americans about
black Americans and their accomplishments. Woodson believed that Negro History week would
give a better appreciation to black Americans and their African ancestors. Unlike today where many
people believe that BHM has became an ethnocentric and a cultural separation observance.
Many individuals believe that BHM is beneficial to American society because it gives people the
opportunity to be educated about the rich culture and

Pericles Argument For A Pro Democratic Government
Part One: Pericles argument for a pro democratic government Pericles argument is that
Democracy is the proper form of government. By Democracy Pericles identifies a variety of
viewpoints. It is asserted by Pericles that citizens should defend their city, by doing so, they are
worthy of such an honor (Pericles, 1). Moreover, by the establishment of a democracyas a form of
governmentprovides the citizens to rule directly instead of ruling through a representative.
Therefore, the decisions are thought out, voted, and agreed on by the citizens as a majority
instead of having one person dictating what is to occur. Furthermore, Pericles asserts that citizens
should fight to defend their city therefore by democracy men are allowed to advance due to merit
instead of privilege (wealth and social class) (Pericles, 7). For this purpose any man with sufficient
capacity to rule is allowed.
Correspondingly, under a democratic regime men are allowed the freedom to act in the manner
they would like without the fear of judgement or retaliation from neighbor s if and only if they
act accordingly within the stated laws provided by the authorities (Pericles, 3). As a result, the
ability to work together for the greater good of the city is accomplish. Democracy may signify
the willingness to sacrifice and defend the city for the cause of a greater good (Pericles, 11).
Those who love and understand this concept are portrayed as honorable men because in order to

Forbidden Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Still...
How relevant can a play written over 400 years ago be in today s society? Romeo and Juliet is a
play written by William Shakespeare around 1595. It tells the story of an old feud between the
house of Capulet and the house of Montague. This feud could only be broken by the forbidden
love and death of their children. So, because of the forbidden love, instability in youth, and
pointless feuding, the story of Romeo and Juliet is actually really relevant in today s society.
Frist of all, forbidden Loves can be caused by many different issues. For example, forbidden love
can be caused by differences in race, religion, social standing, gender preference, or in the case of
Romeo and Juliet, family feuding. As a result, people, especially teens, ... Show more content on

Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair

death bury their parents strife. Here the writer proves, that the fighting between these two families
only ended by the tragic suicide of their children. As a result, pointless feuding usually leads to
revenge. For instance, according to the telegraph Killings of black men by US police officers lead
to revenge shootings across America . This is similar to when Romeo avenges Mercutio by killing
Tybalt. In any event, pointless feuds are a terrible idea that usually ends in tragedy!
It s easy to see how Romeo and Juliet are still relevant in today s society. Of course, it may be
true that the language is quite confusing, it doesn t change the meaning of their words.
Moreover, just because arranged marriages are not a normal practice in America doesn t mean
the larger issues presented in Shakespeare s tragic tale are not. So, from the forbidden love to the
instability in youth to feuding, this 400 plus year old play is still relevant in today s society. In

Paternity Leave Benefits
Paternity Leave
As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering
when you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The
benefits to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes
better child cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better
employees. Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United
States for all full time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. Fathers attach to

This allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of un paid leave. It helps balance work and family
life without the fear of losing their jobs and benefits. The leave is easy to get if you are a full
time employee of a company that has more than 50 employees, has 20 or more work weeks, and
you live within 75 miles of your job. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an
employee that has taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If
your work doesn t offer paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any
vacation and/or PTO. When you put everything together you can see that the long term financial
benefits of paid paternity leave greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer.
Letting the father create such a close bond with the child produces such enormous benefits it is
inconceivable that more employers aren t getting on board with it. I hope that in the future more
employers will see the financial, emotional, and mental benefits and incorporate paid leave for new

Outsourcing Of The United States
According to Investopedia, outsourcing is a practice used by different companies to reduce costs
by transferring portions of work to outside suppliers rather than completing it internally
(Investopedia, n.d). Companies use outsourcing to reduce costs and improve productivity. In the
1970 s and 1980 s was when companies first began looking for alternatives to increase their profits
and increase the production of their products (Narayanan, 2015). Products were becoming to
expensive to make in the United Statesand other lesser developed countries were less expensive,
and that is why the United States turned to China for production. There are lots of other reasons for
outsourcingsuch as gaining access to new markets, gaining global knowledge, focusing on their
core business practices, and being closer to their resources. Gaining access to new markets
happens because the company is moving production abroad, and they are in a whole new area.
When they begin production in this area, the people of that country are opened up to that new idea.
Also gaining global knowledge is very similar to gaining access to new markets. With the company
being in a new country they learn a lot about that country. They need to learn practices, customs,
language, etc. If that company doesn t learn customs, beliefs, or practices then they can offend the
citizens of that country, and then their company will not be as successful. If a company decides to
outsource, they also can focus on their core

A Lesson Plan For A Teacher
Every teacher is responsible for planning what will be taught to their students every week. Each

Bradford s battle was intense, he speaks of flying arrows and firing muskets, repeated charges and
counter charges, swinging cutlasses and hatchets. The Pilgrims superior weaponry eventually
enabled them to disperse the attackers, but Bradford gave the victory to a different source: During
this battle Bradford said the quote Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies and give them
deliverance; and by His special providence so to dispose that not any one of them was either hurt
or hit, though their arrows came close by them and on every side of them; and sundry of their
coats, which hung up in the barricade, were shot through and through. Afterwards they gave God
solemn thanks and praise for their deliverance, and gathered up a bundle of their arrows and sent
them into England afterward by the master of the ship, and called that

My problem/phenomenon:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you spilled something onto your recorded audio
Compact Disk (CD) and didn t realized it until several days later? Below is a report on the effects
of long term exposure of certain household chemicals will have on CD s.
Possible hypotheses:
It is my belief that the Sulfuric Acid will be the one to do the most damage to the CD. If there is
any damage done at all.
Experimental Design and Timeline:
I have wondered about what a household chemical will do when exposed to a CD. So I have
decided to conduct an experiment in which I will take 5 pre recorded audio CD s and divide
them into 24 different sections. That will allow me to place 1 drop of each chemical onto each
section 1 day for 24 days and record the result. I have decided to do this by trying out several
different acids and solvents that you can find around the house.
The 4 different Acids I plan to use are?
1.Acetic acid found in Vinegar
2.Citric acid found in Lemon Juice
3.Tartaric acid found in Red Wine
4.Sulfuric acid found in Car Battery Acid
At the end of 24 day I plan to take photos of what each CD s look like before I wash them off with
warm soapy water. After

Avoid Insurance Case Study
HOW TO PLAN AHEAD FOR MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY:
Many Medicaid applicants to not qualify because they have too many assets. To avoid this
scenario, there are a number of financial options and tools to reduce income and protect countable
assets while planning for Medicaid eligibility. The simple transfer of countable assets into non
countable assets or property can help, but may not protect your assets for your heirs. In order to
preserve your assets for your heirs, you can consider a timely gift or a trust.
The Timely Gifting of Assets: Making gifts of your assets in order to qualify for Medicaid can be
one of the most complicated aspects of Medicaid Planning. The best case scenario is to structure

The cost of long term care and nursing home facilities is skyrocketing. With the amount of
government funding for this type of care dwindling, it would seem that the importance of
Medicaid Planning is becoming more an more important. Every few years the Medicaid
eligibility rules change, making it hard for individuals and families to protect their assets and
qualify for Medicaid. Thankfully, there is a means of avoiding the loss of hard earned assets in
the event that you or a loved one requires long term care during your later years. If you are
attempting to put a plan in place to avoid nursing home poverty, there are a number of concerns that
must be addressed: obtaining the proper level of countable assets, a thorough understanding of the
rules and guidelines for gifting assets, planning far enough in advance to protect your estate from
the government, establishing a trust to allow control of assets, and working with an experienced
estate planning attorney at Thomas Walters Estate Planning who knows you don t want the
government to take your assets and is ready to help you prevent that eventuality. As experts in
estate planning law, Thomas Walters Estate Planning attorneys are committed to helping you and
others like you by listening to you, determining what you want and what you need, and creating a

Population, Population And Developing Countries
In the world today, nations are classified into developed countries and developing countries. A
developed country is a sovereign state that has a highly developed economy and is advanced in
technology. These countries are most likely going to have a more organized government and a
society where people are making money. On the other hand, a developing countryis a poor
agricultural country that is seeking to become more advanced economically and socially (Google).
Two major issues among developing countries are population and starvation. Ethiopia is a great
example of where starvation and population make Ethiopia the developing nation it is. A good
country to contrast with Ethiopia is the United States, a highly developed nation. Although the
United States faces these same issues, it is a much greater problem in Ethiopia. The nations of
the United States and Ethiopia can be compared and contrasted because they both face the issues
of starvation and population growth. A major problem in a developing country like Ethiopia is
starvation. In a country like Ethiopia with about 100 million people, at least twenty million face
food shortages. This means one and every four people have little to no food. The main source of
starvation in Ethiopia is El NiГ±o. El NiГ±o is a complex series of climatic changes severely
affecting the Pacific Ocean. Ethiopia is constantly hit by El NiГ±o, causing extreme droughts
throughout the country. Without water, the droughts have caused crop failure

Salman Rushdie s Haroun and the Sea of Stories Essay
Nobel Prize winner Nadine Gordimer once stated, Censorship is never over for those who have
experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it,
forever. This was a problem faced by Salman Rushdie. After years of suffering from writers block,
he overcame his obstacles and published Haroun and the Sea of Stories. It is not only a story for his
son, but a proclamation of the triumph of the writer over the oppressive forces that sought to
silence him. When read literally, the resolution of Haroun and the Sea of Stories is the defeat of
Khattam Shud as dictator. However, Rushdie s true resolution is the conquest of freedom of speech
over oppression. This is seen in how the characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He left the protection of the British government in 1988 after Iran officially renounced the
fatwa. However, there is still a bounty of 5.8 million U.S. dollars for his head (Allingham). In
Haroun and the Sea of Stories , Khattam shud is a metaphor for Ayatollah Khomeini and Rashid
is a metaphor for Rushdie. Khomeini stifled Rushdie s freedom of speech which caused him to
develop writer s block. He was forced to leave his family to go into hiding, which was the
catalyst for his divorce. In the novel, Rashid experiences the same plights. He looses the Gift of
Gab and his wife because of Mr. Sengupta, who is Khattam Shud s real world counterpart (155).
Khattam Shud has a cult following called the Zipped Lips, who sew their lips shut as a visual
opposition to speech (148). These are extremists, like the Muslim fundamentalists willing to carry
out Khomeini s fatwa. The majority of the Chupwalas do not believe in Khattam Shud and are
only afraid of him (132). Rushdie believes that most Muslims were only afraid of Khomeini, and
there was only a small group of zealous extremists that endangered his life.
Many of the events from Haroun and the Sea of Stories seem like childish parables, however they
are truly metaphors for freedom of speech. In the war between the Guppees and the Chupwalas, the
uniforms of both sides include bulbous nose warmers (179). This clown like attribute is used to
mock the entire conflict between freedom of speech and

Essay about Willie Nelson s Music Makes Me Happy
Going Busking is not as easy as it looks. You have to have a talent such as being a mime, singing,
playing an instrument, or dancing. I played piano in a band with my friends; our number one
song was On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson changed music for some people and
I will be talking about music changing people s lives. Willie Hugh Nelson is a country musicsinger,
song writer, and guitarplayer, he was an author, poet, and activist. The album Shotgun Willie

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and drums. That
is what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat and sounding good. The
piano and the guitar are usually leading and if one is then the other is the background. And of
course the singer is the lead singer. Especially in country music, sometimes there are more than one
singer and there is a background singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well enough someone
could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous performers. First you have to find a
good place where people walk by or drive, then you can tell people about it and that will get some
to come, and you have to pick a good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work
you won t get money and you won t get discovered.
We had a good turnout. Lots of people went. It is all because we used all of the skills that I have
told you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again . I had some trouble singing
and playing piano but it all worked out I learned that if you want to get better you need to practice
and push yourself. You will not get anywhere if you stay in the same place.
There are lots of ways that music can impact people s lives. Our project told us to impact the
environment around you, by using music, and we did. We went in

The, Peace, Night, Day, Love, Hate
Introduction
Binaries are embedded within every facet of our perceptions. War, peace, night, day, love, hate; we
are inclined to believe that every subject, idea, and thing has a polarizing companion. While this
paradigm may be beneficial in understanding the distinction and differences between these pairs, it
fails to entertain an idea even more compelling; that these polar opposites may not in fact be that
different from one another, and the bold notion that these dichotomies might not be as real as we
presume. Art and physics have been traditionally painted as polar opposites; neither resembling the
other even remotely. One is rational, objective, and logical, while the other is interpretive,
subjective, and, at times, seemingly illogical. While these superficial characteristics make a
persuasive argument for an antagonistic relationship between these subjects, it fails to acknowledge
their overarching commonality. Both disciplines have rich and prolific histories, saturated with
radical ideas, incredible individuals, and ground breaking discoveries and progressions. These rich
histories have provided the necessary foundation for the modern interpretations of these subjects
and all the wonderful innovations and understandings this modernity has entailed. While many
factors, movements, and people are responsible for this progression, two such movements in
particular have caused radical paradigm shifts in their respective disciplines. Impressionism and

Analysis Of The Poem Dog By Lawrence Ferlinghetti
There are many literary devices in the poem Dog by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which can be found
in Ann Charters The Portable Beat Reader. In this particular poem, the use of symbolism is
heavily embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not
give the reader a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and
dissecting each stanza, it would not seem to be just a group of random words stitched together, but
rather a poem about Lawrence Ferlinghetti s assessment of the modern world. As the supposed dog
wanders freely and explores the world around him, the symbolic images that the dog experiences
along his journey truly gives an in depth view of the term Beat from the emerging Beat Generation
of the 1950s.
Qualities of the post World War II Beat culture include obscene and defiant behaviors in addition
to an environment paved with drugs and poverty. One of the stories that best portrays the central
elements of the Beat culture is the story of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty in On the Road by
Jack Kerouac. In fact, Jack Kerouac is the writer who was the first to coin the term Beat
Generation. In the story, Sal Paradise meets a highly experimental and charismatic man dubbed
Dean Moriarty. The story follows them as they travel from corner to corner of the country searching
for meaning, all while facing adversities such as confusion, depression, drugs, alcohol, and overall
abandonment. Since these qualities are a

Proton Pump Inhibitors Research Paper
Proton Pump Inhibitors are all benzimidazole derivatives that control gastric acid secretion by
inhibition of gastric H+,K+ ATPase, the enzyme responsible for the final step in gastric acid
secretion from the parietal cells. The PPIs are inactive pro drugs that are carried in the
bloodstream to the parietal cells in the gastric mucosa. The pro drugs readily cross the parietal cell
membrane in the cytosol. These drugs are weak bases and therefore have a high affinity for acidic
environments. They diffuse across the secretory membrane on the parietal cell into the extracellular
secretory canaliculus, the site of active proton pump. Under this acidic conditions the prodrugs are
converted to their active form, which irreversibily binds the proton pump, inhibiting acid
secretions. Since the active principles forms at a low pH it concentrates selectively in the acidic
enviorment of the proton pump and results in extremely effective inhibition of acid secretion. The
different PPIs(Omeprazole,Esomeprazole,Lanzoprazole, Pantoprazole and Rabeprazole ) bind to
different sites on the proton pump, which may explain their differences in potency on a milligram

Energy Crisis Interrelated to Global Warming....
Energy Crisis Interrelated to Global Warming. Photovoltaic Cell A Possible Solution Abstract
The world s energy crisis has worsened in recent years, as oil prices dramatically increased due to
the limited amount of available oil. Global warming is considered as a byproduct of energy crisis,
because as oil continues to burn in the refining process, CO2 is constantly emitted to the
atmosphere at a fast rate and in heavy concentrations, which in turn, worsens the global warming
situation. Photovoltaic cell technology converts sunlight into direct current electricity. This source
can be a possible solution to solve the energy crisis as well as the global warming issue.

One of the possible solutions to solve these problems is the replacement of renewable energy,
solar energy, which converts sun energy directly to usable energy such as electricity. This will
possibly slow down the process of energy crisis and global warming. 3 Results and Discussion
Almost everything in our daily lives depends on oil as a major energy source, automobiles,
freeways, commutes, air travel, food and heater/air conditioning. Since the production of oil is
considered cheap and convenient in economic terms, people rarely consider alternative sources
of energy. Until recently, the energy crisis has worsened. This is indicated by the rising of oil
prices. The world, especially the U.S. is highly depending on the Middle Eastern oil because oil
productions in other places are constantly declining. Not only city residents are dependent on oil,
but also the farmers. Farmer represents 2% of the American population, but they can produce
enough food for the rest of the 98% of the population due to the help from the oil powered
machineries. It is estimated that it takes approximately one ton of oil to produce one steer. (The
Coming World Energy Crisis, 2005). Since oil is a non renewable energy source, the oil
production will definitely be depleted. The world has already consumed about half of the
endowment of oil, and the discovery rate for new oil has decreased in the past 40 years. As the
world population increases, the corresponding

  • 3. Ku Klux Klan Influence Various inhabitants of the US have a sense of nationalism and American pride within their souls and hearts. However, in a particular case of US history, this very pride lead to a radical nationalist organization that was able to recruit a phenomenal 5,000,000 members, lynch thousands of innocent minorities, break national news, dominate the American legislature, break fear into millions of individuals, and ultimately still exist today. This group is identified as none other but the infamous Ku Klux Klan. A ruthless and widespread organization in the United States that successfully illuminated itself as being 100% American in the late 19th century and to date. In an illustration, the reason for the KKK s dominance in the turning points of America... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The very first set of these measures was violent and killed many in the process, and in this case, the actions were against primarily Blacks and minorities. The first acts of brutality included lynchings ranging anywhere from tens to hundred of Blacks. A prime example of such behavior occurred in January 1871, when 500 masked men attacked a union jail and lynched over 8 Black men while leaving others severely injured ( Ku Klux Klan ). In other cases, the KKK would attack and attempt to assassinate Blacks in the American legislature in an effort to bring back pure White dominance that existed before reconstruction. Furthermore, the KKK would outright commit homicide to minorities in the US, and as a result, it is estimated that the Klan murdered nearly 1,000 Blacks in Texas alone due to the klan s actions. Likewise, it was also not uncommon for the Klan to kill Jews, Catholics, and immigrants (Schuyler). Lastly, the Klan also participated in night raids. In this case, the group would go out at night and attack the properties of mainly Blacks and supporters of Reconstruction. The Klansmen disguised themselves in white robes which hid their identity along with the mass of the crowd. Also, because of the anonymity, tracking individuals down ... • 4. Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Series Of The Parables I entered Butler University as an English major believing that what we choose to read changes the way we think, and literature shapes the society we live in. I later changed my major to International Studies, an interdisciplinary course of study, which allowed me to foster my understanding of the global society, the complexities of intercultural interactions, and the ability to apply political theories to interpret one situation from multiple perspectives. When choosing the topic for my senior thesis, I was torn between delving into a political crisis or taking the opportunity to re visit my love of literature in an academic framework. Speculative fictionis the crossroads I have found between my love of literature and my passion for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom. Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes on to point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what is good (Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that good is usually considered to be a varied concept that is open to human interpretation and construction; however, natural selection commensurates the incommensurable (1244). Hardin s proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or commons for which many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created cesspool (1245). Hardin s interpretation challenges traditional morals that stem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As you can see, this Heinz ketchup advertisement incorporated religious symbol and language into their creative work. Symbolic religious language has three primary characteristics: It points to something beyond itself it is transcendent. It is complex it has layers of meaning. And it is often paradoxical it contains two opposing ideas (Bond, Symbol). • 9. The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? You have said from the beginning she loves us so much and is fearful of doing or saying anything to cause us to dislike her. Can you imagine going through any of the above stated with your son or daughter? The dichotomy here is that Jessie likes and loves your parents, but you say she finds your mother s gestures of kindness and caring as sometimes insincere, intrusive, etc., and senses your mother wants more in the relationship than she. We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You were triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully functioning family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between them and not involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions. The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational problems that others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ). However, some people are not entitled to the American Dream. Many Americans are not treated equally under the law. Some of the groups lose their right to vote, have a more difficult time finding jobs, or are a group that has been forgotten by politicians. The American Dream is a controversial issue today because many groups in America have claimed that they have not received the chance to have it. Females are not the only group that do not have access to the American Dream, minorities also have a difficult time getting the American Dream. Furthermore, minorities are often times denied the right to the American Dream. In the history of the United States, non whites have been mistreated and have been treated as different in society. In the poetry, Being Brought from Africa to America , by Phillis Wheatley it discusses how many people in America view people of color. In the poem it states, Some view our sable race with scornful eye, / Their color is a diabolic die (Wheatley 73). In the poem Wheatley describes how people of color are looked down upon in society. In addition, Wheatley states that some white people think that her skin color is a diabolic die which implied that the color of the person s skin is evil. Throughout history people of color have been segregated, discriminated, and suppressed. All of those things make it more difficult for minorities to achieve success because they are not given the chance to succeed. The American Dream could be possible for minorities if they were recognized as equals in society in addition to being treated equally under the law. Phillis Wheatley also states, Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain, / May be refin d, and join th angelic train (Wheatley 73). In the quote the author states ... Two states, developing as either a democratic or authoritarian regime, could be expected to undergo different paths over the course of fifty years. While this opportunity of observational research is unlikely to occur, it presents itself to analysis implementing secured theories regarding the tendencies of both forms of government. A democratic regime, defined by popular sovereignty and political equality, deeply contrasts the inequality and singular rule synonymous with authoritarianism. The differences in the two states would be most notable in regard to tendencies regarding international relations, economic development, as well as the level of internal stability resulting from the decisions made by political leader. It is likely that the authoritarian country would be less developed economically because of effects stemming from inefficiency in the provision of public goods. As opposed to democracies, more apt to proficiency in this realm, authoritarian rulers may avoid providing sufficient goods in order to prevent overthrow. Public goods, in adequate supply, have a tendency to promote economic growth. While this growth would be looked upon in a positive light by democratic regimes, as the positive benefits of increased wealth act to reduce economic polarization on course to the decreased presence of redistributive conflicts, an authoritarian ruler would view the provision of these goods in sufficient quantity as a resource to fuel proletariat uprising (122). The tendencies regarding public goods would leave the authoritarian state incapable of reaching the economic vitality of the democratic state, which, in asserting the stimulant of institutional stability, has further provided an environment welcoming to innovation and development (125). Following fifty years of development, the authoritarian and democratic states would be expected to show separation in their experiences with internal stability. This issue is becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it s consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with specific relevant information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and Facebook revolves around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users worldwide view and get them thinking (Eli ... • 16. Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might have almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the intertemporal issue of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878, Ibsen writes A woman cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society with laws drafted by men, and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male point of view. The femaleprotagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the society s need of forming womenthat are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful mothers, but in general, obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. In Plenty, the audience gets to examine years of Susan Traherne s life, from her World War II activity as a courier in the French Renaissance to her emotional privation in the post Suez British plenty . Even after the war, Susan cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and conventions disharmonize with her own opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs Alving and Susan is that as women they are expected to fit into a certain role in the real life, directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes their personal fulfilment. To begin with, Ghosts is a play that does not solely examine the society s pressure on the women, but the impact of society on every individual regardless of gender. ... In Defense of the Original Ending of Great Expectations Many critics prefer the original ending to the revised version because it is the ending that Dickens himself decided to write without consulting anyone. Many people believe that since Bulwer Lytton gave Dickens input on the second ending that it is not as true. Although Dickens may have inadvertently been plagiarizing, the original ending is the way that Dickens felt the novel should end, as opposed to the way Bulwer Lytton felt it should end. Another reason that the original is preferable is because it seems to flow better with the overall themes of the novel. One of these themes is how people expectations differ from reality. Pip s expectations never seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He never would have been embarrassed about Joe if he did not expect to live a better life than him. When Dickens gives Pip the possibility of happiness with Estella in the revised ending, he completely undermines the lesson he was teaching Pip and the reader. A related theme that is carried through in this ending is the idea of mistaken identities. Estella mistakes little Pip for Pip s son, when he is really the son of Joe and Biddy. This is like how Pip mistakes Miss Havisham for the one who gives him his expectations when it is really Magwitch. In the original ending of Great Expectations, there is no Chapter 59, and Dickens reunites Pip and Estella in four short paragraphs. Although this ending is generally referred to as the unhappy ending since Pip and Estella definitely part ways again, it does give the reader hope that Estella finally understands how she treated Pip. This is important because it ties Estella and Pip together by the fact that they are both able to feel remorse for the way they treated other people. In Estella s case, she mistreated Pip, but after suffering at the hands of Drummle, she is finally able to empathize with Pip. She understands what it is like to be under the control of another human being. Throughout the novel, it is Estella who has power over Pip and every other man she meets. Sources of Mercury and Health Effect Sources of Mercury and Health Effect Mercury is a naturally occurring element found in the earth s crust that can be found as the elemental or metallic mercury or in many organic and inorganic compounds. Mercury is a metal that when at room temperature is a silvery liquid metal and is often called one of the heavy metals. Mercury can evaporate like water, and become airborne. It is an element that does not break down into a less toxic substance. Once mercury escapes into the environment it will continue to circulate in and out of the atmosphere until it ends up at the bottoms of lakes and oceans. It cannot be created or destroyed (UWM, 2004). The most common or leading source of mercury in the environment is atmospheric deposition. Once mercury has reached the atmosphere it can circulate for years which make up for the extensive distribution in the environment. The natural sources that contribute to atmospheric mercury are volcanoes, geologic deposits of mercury, weathering of rocks and volatilization from the ocean. Rocks, sediments, water and soil also naturally contain small amounts of mercury; scientists have even found some local mineral occurrences and thermal springs that are natural high in mercury (USGS, 2009). In this film he attempts to demonstrate the truth about BHM and examine what might happen if BHM no longer existed. Tilghman argues that Black History is American History , and he believes that the only solution to this problem is to end BHM and incorporate it all year around. So the question is: should we end Black History Month ? This is an extremely controversial question which has been asked all over the world for many years. Everyone has their own opinion and beliefs about whether to end BHM or not, but there isn t a correct answer. As decades have passed there have been many issues that involve BHM. For example, BHM no longer has the same meaning that Carter G. Woodson intended for it when he created it in 1926. He instituted Negro Week primarily for the benefit of black Americans who were unaware of their contributions to American History. Woodson wanted to educate blacks and white Americans about black Americans and their accomplishments. • 34. Pericles Argument For A Pro Democratic Government Part One: Pericles argument for a pro democratic government Pericles argument is that Democracy is the proper form of government. By Democracy Pericles identifies a variety of viewpoints. It is asserted by Pericles that citizens should defend their city, by doing so, they are worthy of such an honor (Pericles, 1). Moreover, by the establishment of a democracyas a form of governmentprovides the citizens to rule directly instead of ruling through a representative. Therefore, the decisions are thought out, voted, and agreed on by the citizens as a majority instead of having one person dictating what is to occur. Furthermore, Pericles asserts that citizens should fight to defend their city therefore by democracy men are allowed to advance due to merit instead of privilege (wealth and social class) (Pericles, 7). For this purpose any man with sufficient capacity to rule is allowed. Correspondingly, under a democratic regime men are allowed the freedom to act in the manner they would like without the fear of judgement or retaliation from neighbor s if and only if they act accordingly within the stated laws provided by the authorities (Pericles, 3). As a result, the ability to work together for the greater good of the city is accomplish. • 35. Forbidden Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Still... How relevant can a play written over 400 years ago be in today s society? Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare around 1595. It tells the story of an old feud between the house of Capulet and the house of Montague. This feud could only be broken by the forbidden love and death of their children. So, because of the forbidden love, instability in youth, and pointless feuding, the story of Romeo and Juliet is actually really relevant in today s society. Frist of all, forbidden Loves can be caused by many different issues. For example, forbidden love can be caused by differences in race, religion, social standing, gender preference, or in the case of Romeo and Juliet, family feuding. Here the writer proves, that the fighting between these two families only ended by the tragic suicide of their children. As a result, pointless feuding usually leads to revenge. For instance, according to the telegraph Killings of black men by US police officers lead to revenge shootings across America . This is similar to when Romeo avenges Mercutio by killing Tybalt. In any event, pointless feuds are a terrible idea that usually ends in tragedy! It s easy to see how Romeo and Juliet are still relevant in today s society. Of course, it may be true that the language is quite confusing, it doesn t change the meaning of their words. Moreover, just because arranged marriages are not a normal practice in America doesn t mean the larger issues presented in Shakespeare s tragic tale are not. • 36. Paternity Leave Benefits Paternity Leave As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering when you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The benefits to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes better child cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better employees. Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United States for all full time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an employee that has taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If your work doesn t offer paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any vacation and/or PTO. When you put everything together you can see that the long term financial benefits of paid paternity leave greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer. • 37. Outsourcing Of The United States According to Investopedia, outsourcing is a practice used by different companies to reduce costs by transferring portions of work to outside suppliers rather than completing it internally (Investopedia, n.d). Companies use outsourcing to reduce costs and improve productivity. In the 1970 s and 1980 s was when companies first began looking for alternatives to increase their profits and increase the production of their products (Narayanan, 2015). Products were becoming to expensive to make in the United Statesand other lesser developed countries were less expensive, and that is why the United States turned to China for production. There are lots of other reasons for outsourcingsuch as gaining access to new markets, gaining global knowledge, focusing on their core business practices, and being closer to their resources. Gaining access to new markets happens because the company is moving production abroad, and they are in a whole new area. When they begin production in this area, the people of that country are opened up to that new idea. Also gaining global knowledge is very similar to gaining access to new markets. With the company being in a new country they learn a lot about that country. They need to learn practices, customs, language, etc. If that company doesn t learn customs, beliefs, or practices then they can offend the citizens of that country, and then their company will not be as successful. A developed country is a sovereign state that has a highly developed economy and is advanced in technology. These countries are most likely going to have a more organized government and a society where people are making money. On the other hand, a developing countryis a poor agricultural country that is seeking to become more advanced economically and socially (Google). Two major issues among developing countries are population and starvation. Ethiopia is a great example of where starvation and population make Ethiopia the developing nation it is. A good country to contrast with Ethiopia is the United States, a highly developed nation. Although the United States faces these same issues, it is a much greater problem in Ethiopia. Art and physics have been traditionally painted as polar opposites; neither resembling the other even remotely. In this particular poem, the use of symbolism is heavily embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not give the reader a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and dissecting each stanza, it would not seem to be just a group of random words stitched together, but rather a poem about Lawrence Ferlinghetti s assessment of the modern world. • 54. Proton Pump Inhibitors Research Paper Proton Pump Inhibitors are all benzimidazole derivatives that control gastric acid secretion by inhibition of gastric H+,K+ ATPase, the enzyme responsible for the final step in gastric acid secretion from the parietal cells. The PPIs are inactive pro drugs that are carried in the bloodstream to the parietal cells in the gastric mucosa. The pro drugs readily cross the parietal cell membrane in the cytosol. These drugs are weak bases and therefore have a high affinity for acidic environments. They diffuse across the secretory membrane on the parietal cell into the extracellular secretory canaliculus, the site of active proton pump. Under this acidic conditions the prodrugs are converted to their active form, which irreversibily binds the proton pump, inhibiting acid secretions. Since the active principles forms at a low pH it concentrates selectively in the acidic enviorment of the proton pump and results in extremely effective inhibition of acid secretion. The different PPIs(Omeprazole,Esomeprazole,Lanzoprazole, Pantoprazole and Rabeprazole ) bind to different sites on the proton pump, which may explain their differences in potency on a milligram per milligram basis. PPIs require an enteric coating to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The apparent half life is approximately 48h.This prolong duration of action allows once daily dosing of PPIs, although twice daily dosing is recommended in some cases of erosive oesophagitis or Barrett s oesophagus when a sustained gastric pH of greater than 4.0 is required. All PPIs are most effective if taken about 30min before a meal as they inhibit only actively secreting proton pumps. Meals are the main stimulus to proton pump activity. The optimal dosing time is 30 60min before the first meal of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Energy Crisis Interrelated to Global Warming.... Energy Crisis Interrelated to Global Warming. Photovoltaic Cell A Possible Solution Abstract The world s energy crisis has worsened in recent years, as oil prices dramatically increased due to the limited amount of available oil. Global warming is considered as a byproduct of energy crisis, because as oil continues to burn in the refining process, CO2 is constantly emitted to the atmosphere at a fast rate and in heavy concentrations, which in turn, worsens the global warming situation. Photovoltaic cell technology converts sunlight into direct current electricity. This source can be a possible solution to solve the energy crisis as well as the global warming issue. Introduction Energy crisis has remained a top concern in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the possible solutions to solve these problems is the replacement of renewable energy, solar energy, which converts sun energy directly to usable energy such as electricity. This will possibly slow down the process of energy crisis and global warming. 3 Results and Discussion Almost everything in our daily lives depends on oil as a major energy source, automobiles, freeways, commutes, air travel, food and heater/air conditioning. Since the production of oil is considered cheap and convenient in economic terms, people rarely consider alternative sources of energy. Until recently, the energy crisis has worsened. This is indicated by the rising of oil prices. The world, especially the U.S. is highly depending on the Middle Eastern oil because oil productions in other places are constantly declining. Not only city residents are dependent on oil, but also the farmers. Farmer represents 2% of the American population, but they can produce enough food for the rest of the 98% of the population due to the help from the oil powered machineries. It is estimated that it takes approximately one ton of oil to produce one steer. (The Coming World Energy Crisis, 2005). Since oil is a non renewable energy source, the oil production will definitely be depleted. The world has already consumed about half of the endowment of oil, and the discovery rate for new oil has decreased in the past 40 years. As the world population increases, the corresponding ...
