Binge Drinking On College Campuses
Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be
lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue that
someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those who are in
favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences regarding
psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger problem
concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known as binge
drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic beverages
can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously reducing the
dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college students, and
drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college freshman come
into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be a significant
influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. Binge drinking is so
common that it is expected of a college student to drink once getting into the university. The reasons
in which students decide to binge drink can vary from students

his theme about human life and nature easier that every reader can understand. Bobby Fong states, My
papa s Waltz is characterized as depicting the father s mixture of tenderness and brutality and the child
s admiration and fear (78). In My Papa s Waltz , it gives readers a image of a father and a child while
they read through the poem. Roethke writes, The hand that held my wrist / was battered on one
knuckle; / At every step you missed / My right ear scraped a buckle (Poetry Foundation). This stanza
gives readers a child s point of view to his father. Specifically, these stanzas gives a image of a caring
father. Roethke successfully delivered the peaceful, warm image of dad so that everybody can relate
themselves to this poem because everybody have a memory of a youth life with

Middle Colonies Essay
The Middle colonies consisted of four of the thirteen colonies founded by the English in America. In
1609, Henry Hudson, a Dutch explorer, traveled in the Middle colonies by going on a journey into the
Hudson River and Delaware Bay. In 1621, he colonized what was then New Netherland, with New
Amsterdam as the capitol. The Duke of York, was given New Netherland from his brother King
Charles II, and renamed the land after himself naming it New York, and the capitol was then named
New York City. Being that New York was so large, New Jersey became another Middle colony,
founded by the Duke of York s friends, Sir George Carteret and Sir John Berkeley. Pennsylvania and
Delaware were the next colonies to be added to the Middle colony region by William ... Show more

New York was first settled by the Dutch and Pennsylvania was founded on the basis of religious
tolerance, which are some of the main factors to why the Middle colonies were so diverse. With the
New England colonies being settled by Puritans, it wasn t a very accepting region for other religions.
The Southern colonies was also mainly a plantation economy which did not attract very many
immigrants. In the 1700 s population in the Middle colonies flourished with immigrants from places
such as Germany, Ireland, and Scotland. In 1770, about 85,000 German immigrants came to the
Middle colonies. Most of the immigrants were made up of Germans because of the War going on in
Germany at the time, and they wanted to escape the harsh life there in America. Scots Irish were also
major settlers mainly consisting of farm laborers or tenant farmers. Although the trip over was
miserable because of seasickness, bad sanitation, and starvation, immigrants were still able to escape
their lives in Europe and were welcomed in the Middle colonies unlike in the other colonial regions.
The colonies were also diverse because of the different religions and culture that the immigrants
brought. Not only did immigrants come to America for a better life, but they came with their beliefs
and spread them among other settlers, making the Middle colonies a more accepting, region. Even
though the Middle colonies were

The Development Of The Periodic Table
Chemistry Research assignment
OUTLINE the history of the development of the Periodic Table including its origins, the original data
used to construct it and the predictions made after its construction. (Include references to the
contributions made by Antoine Lavoisier, Johann Dobereiner, John Newlands, Dmitri Mendeleev,
Lothar Meyer, William Ramsay, Henry Moseley, J.J. Thomson and Niels Bohr.
In 1803 a man by the name of John Dalton Proposed that matter was comprised of atoms that were
very simple and solid with no structure. He also put forward that each element was different from each
other with different atomic weights. J.J. Thomson first discovered the electron in 1897 which lead to
him developing a new model of the atom in 1904 1909, this new model is often referred to as the plum
pudding model due to Thomson visualizing the atom as a positive sphere in which negative electrons
embedded into it. Thomson envisaged the electrons to have some sort of structure or pattern to them
rather than just loose as the name, plum pudding implies. Earnest Rutherford Developed an atomic
model in 1911 called the planetary model. This model has positive protons in the nucleus with
negative electrons orbiting it like the sun. He developed this model due to him discovering the
nucleus. Later in 1913 Niels Bohr Realised that the electrons that orbit the nucleus must occupy
stable, non radiating orbits. This led to him developing the Bohr Model which was electrons
occupying stable shells

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT FROM THE PRINCIPAL S VIEW
Effective leadership requires purpose and direction. Planning and preparation are vital when
evaluating the success of the institution. The course reading states: ?As a new principal, you must
assess the capacity of delivery mechanisms, facilities, and equipment before you make
recommendations for enhancements? (WGU Student Portal, January 5, 2017). Attention to detail,
being flexible and problem solving are at the core of school leadership. This paper will discuss two
types of delivery mechanisms as it relates to learning and provide specific examples of how programs
are used. Next, examine school facilities, technology and equipment, including use and specifications.
Finally, discuss process improvement as it relates to the educational institution.

The Terror Known as Robespierre
Robespierre was one of the most significant men throughout the period of the French Revolution; he
had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death.
Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original
job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power,
the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of
the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and
discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over
this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both
extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held
a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the
CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the
conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people
that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean
François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. Robespierre did not leave this up to the CSG whose job
was to punish this type of people and because of this, he gained the reputation of a tyrant he

Ark 300 Cubits
Surely as God creates the grandeur of life, He holds an expectation for the humans He crafts in His
image. As Old Testament generations pass, the gap between expectation and reality widens, and God
must establish commandments of His desire for humanity through Moses. His want is for humanity to
love Him by way of obedience out of fear of His power. It is not possible for humans to fear or love
God without keeping to his commandments. Therefore God s ultimate desire for humanity is
obedience, displayed in His readiness to favor those who submit to him and punish though who do
not. From the beginning of Creation in Genesis, it is evident that obedience is what God asks of man.
The first man and woman are free to live as they please in Eden: working the garden, naming the
animals, and eating the fruits. There is but one instruction from God: The LORD God commanded the
man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good

God gives Noah very precise commands; for example, Make yourself an ark of gopher wood . . . This
is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30
cubits (Genesis 6:14 15). From the type of wood with which to build to the number of animals allowed
in the boat, Noah must submit to God or face the same consequence for disobedience as the rest of
humanity. Emphasizing God s desire for humanity s obedience, four reiterations of the sentence first
offered in Genesis 6:22, Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him, are present in the textual
account of Noah. Noah s obedience was great, and for that he is rewarded: God not only saves Noah,
his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, but also establishes a covenant with him to last all
generations. To Noah God

Trayvon Martin s Struggle In The US
I was fourteen when I first became aware of black struggles, particularly in the United States. An
innocent, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George
Zimmerman. Martin was shot plainly because he was Black and yet, Zimmerman walked away a free
man on the grounds of self defense. His death had ignited something in me. A teenage boy was
murdered because an ignorant, racist and self glorified man had garnered the sympathy of the justice
system. Truthfully, this was only a nudge to the direction. As sad it is, I was still naïve. However, with
every bullet that pierced through each innocent black body, the systemic racism that had targeted the
Black community for centuries had made itself known to me. More

Labelling Theory
Labeling theory had its origins in Suicide, a book by French sociologist Émile Durkheim. He found
that crime is not so much a violation of a penal code as it is an act that outrages society. He was the
first to suggest that deviant labeling satisfies that function and satisfies society s need to control the
behavior. As a contributor to American Pragmatism and later a member of the Chicago School, George
Herbert Mead posited that the self is socially constructed and reconstructed through the interactions
which each person has with the community. The labeling theory suggests that people obtain labels
from how others view their tendencies or behaviors. Each individual is aware of how they are judged
by others because he or she has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mind, Self, and Society (1934),[1] he showed how infants come to know persons first and only
later come to know things. According to Mead, thought is both a social and pragmatic process, based
on the model of two persons discussing how to solve a problem. Our self image is, in fact, constructed
of ideas about what we think others are thinking about us. While we make fun of those who visibly
talk to themselves, they have only failed to do what the rest of us do in keeping the internal
conversation to ourselves. Human behavior, Mead stated, is the result of meanings created by the
social interaction of conversation, both real and imaginary. [edit]Frank Tannenbaum Frank
Tannenbaum is considered the grandfather of labeling theory. His Crime and Community (1938),[2]
describing the social interaction involved in crime, is considered a pivotal foundation of modern
criminology. While the criminal differs little or not at all from others in the original impulse to first
commit a crime, social interaction accounts for continued acts that develop a pattern of interest to
sociologists. Tannenbaum first introduced the idea of tagging .[3] While conducting his studies with
delinquent youth, he found that a negative tag or label often contributed to further involvement in
delinquent activities. This initial tagging may cause the individual to adopt it as part of their

Pros And Cons Of Keeping Exotic Animals

they are not harmless.Exotic animals should not be allowed to be kept as pets and this is why. In most
states people are able to keep exotic animals even though there are many incidents involving exotic
animals. This includes an incident when in Texas a four year old was mauled by his aunt s pet
mountain lion,or in Nebraska when a 34 year old man was strangled to death by his pet snake. The list
goes on and on but my point is that these so called pets are very dangerous wild animals not to be kept

Obesity and Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Essay
This disease was uncommon in the old days because it was unusual to accumulate enough fat to hurt
livers. However, many people in the United States are now suffering from NAFLD and NASH. Before
1998, there was no case of NASH heard. In contrast, a statistics from a website called Partners In
Liver Wellness provides an alarming information. The site says, As a consequence of the on going
obesity epidemic in the U.S., fatty liver is a very common disorder with an estimated two thirds of
obese adults and half of obese children having fat accumulation in the liver 8. It also mentions that up

It may take many years for NASH to become severe enough to cause symptoms. National Digestive
Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC) indeed says, NASH is usually a silent disease with few
or no symptoms 3. The article also says that as the symptoms get worse, patients might experience
weight loss and weakness. Once a person feels fatigue, that means that the disease is advanced or
cirrhosis is present. As the liver gets weakened into a condition of cirrhosis, liver enzymes increase
because whenever a liver cell breaks down, it release its enzymes from itself. Also, as the liver a
patient gets scarred, it starts to swell up to 3 times of its size. Because of these, NASH may be
suspected if blood tests show high levels of liver enzymes or if scans show fatty liver. The website
clarifies, NASH is usually first suspected in a person who is found to have elevations in liver tests that
are included in routine blood test panels, such as alanine aminotransferase or aspartate
aminotransferase 3. Both aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase are types of enzyme from
various tissues in the body, especially in liver. They are important in the production of various amino
acids, and they catalyze the chemical reaction of an amino group from an amino acid to an alpha keto
acid. In order not to damage a person s liver, trying best not to hurt the liver is

Carlos Saúl Menem, the son of Syrian immigrants, became Argentina s first Muslim president in 1989.
He had had to convert to Catholicism earlier, though, because, until 1994, the law stated all presidents
of Argentina had to be Roman Catholic. His Syrian ancestry earned him the nickname El Turco (The
Turk). Many gauchos, or Argentine cowboys, were of Jewish origin. The first recorded instance of
mass Jewish immigration to Argentina was in the late 19th century, when 800 Russian Jews arrived in
Buenos Aires after fleeing persecution from Czar Alexander III. The Jewish Colonization Association

Job Consolidation Is A Great Idea For Suncoast Hotel
We at White Board Consulting believe that job consolidation is a great idea for SunCoast Hotel (SCH)
to help solve their current scheduling problems and help management transition during the expansion.
Further, this job consolidation approach can help prevent problems that might arise in the future.
Having a Guest Service Staff (GSS) position will allow these employees to be more efficient in their
day to day operations since they will be able to function within in each department of the hotel. Idle
time for employees will also be reduced because instead of just being confined to only completing
tasks one department, the GSS is will be able multitask in different department. Management will also
have a flexibility of moving employees from department to department without having to use time and
labor retain employees.
Having a Guest Service Staff might also be a beneficial position in the long run for the SunCoast
Hotel. Currently there is is a 35 percent average turnover rate for hotel employees; 10 percent is
through natural attrition. If employees are being used more efficiently and given a wide range of task
to complete, WB consulting believes that this turnover rate will decrease due to a positive increase in
affective commitment. Engaging the employees more and setting up a healthy relationship with
management, we believe, will have a very strong positive impact for job satisfaction. Employees will
see the big picture and see how their work directly effects that,

Essay about Mozart k310 sonata (2nd movement)
Mozart k310 sonata (2nd movement) Analyzation
The 2nd movement of the Mozart k310 Piano Sonata resembles standard sonata form in many ways. It
opens with a first theme in F (same as key signature). The theme is four bars long; two bars of
antecedant, two bars of consequent. Mozart then starts the first theme again with a 32nd note run pick
up instead of the 16th note arpeggio pick up in the the begginning of the piece so we are prepared for
variation in the second statement of the first theme. He then continues the theme with variation until
the consequent phrase which is completely different from the first consequent phrase. This new
consequent has not only faster rythmic movement but also compressed harmonic rythym. This tension

The I chord confuses the tonal direction becasuse the listener expects the ii to be followed by V and
then I. This is even more confusing because the scale that accompanies the I chord implies V (the
chord the listener wants to hear). The next bar rounds off this cadential prolongation (ii V I) but the
exposition does not yet end. The arrival to I does not occur until beat three of the bar. The first two
beats create even more prolongation as they nearly modulate. And even after this, the exposition is not
done. There is a two bar codetta (a one bar figure played twice, the second time with variation) before
the strong V7 I cadence with a C pedal tone. This is the first very strong cadence since the start of the
closing material. Since the cadence at the end of the exposition is to C without any hint of F as a tonic,
the Developement begins in C. In fact, it is clearly in C as its pick ups are a C arpeggio and the first
bar looks and sounds like I and shows no indication of a Bb or any other scale alteration. The opening
of the developement is also a textural change but seems to resemble old material in its melody. Both
the first theme and the second theme have similar figures to the new material. The developement starts
with tonal movement in each of the first two measures, I in the first measure and ii6 in the second. In
the third bar the harmonic rythym increases with a I64 for the first two beats and a V7 in

Maintaining Agricultural Farmlands for the World s Growing...
As the world population continues to rise, there are growing concerns for maintaining agricultural
farmlands, especially in developing countries with drought and famine. This has also led to many
shortages of food, due to high demand because of the increasing population. Demographists worry
that if this growing issue continues to hurt food consumption of povertized countries, than there will
be more deaths because the population is increasing, but the food levels are staying the same, or even
decreasing. Some of these demographists believe that this is occurring, because the developed
countries are intaking too much food. Others believe that this is because of the overpopulated
countries, and the fact that they are in higher need for food because of their population. Another
problem that arises within this is deforestation. Deforestation is a part of this growing problem
because when massive woodlands are cut down, the lands become dry and bodies of water in or
around the land dry up, making crops unsuitable for crop growth and crop rotation, leading to the
lands to turn into non arable lands. This is also known as desertification. This correlates with
population growth because if lands become non arable, then crops won t grow there, leading to
starvation in developing countries with higher population needs and demands. Although some people
are taking action for the problems that this issue has given us, we re still nowhere near solving the
problem. This issue is very

Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides Essay
Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides
Christ resembles Dionysus in many ways. Is it possible that Christ is simply an extension of the
Dionysian myth? Though the concepts of wine and faith unite the two, the idea of revenge compared
to self sacrifice separates the two deities. Dionysus fits the Greek understanding of vengeful and
selfish God that bear more anthropomorphic traits than Godly traits. Christ, however, transcends
human desires for revenge and acts in self sacrifice. This is the key separation between them.
The similarity between the two Gods is striking. Dionysus is associated with wine and revelry. Christ
forever associated himself with wine and celebration through the act of Communion and the ... Show

It is said that before he died he cried out, It is finished. The last words that the chorus speaks echo the
same thought. It is finished. That is not the only surprising thing. The Bible tells of God s struggle to
find a way to salvage the relationship with his children. The last line of the Bacchae reverberates the
concept of the Godly struggle to find the right action.
The motives of Dionysus are extremely perplexing to a modern audience. I will go; for that which fate
forbids, can never befall me. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense of thee
even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison (Euripides
28).
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
him shall not perish but have eternal life. The quote from the Bacchae is rooted in Dionysus s
individual desire for revenge upon those who snubbed him by not believing in him. Nowhere in the
text is Dionysus noted for performing any large acts of self sacrifice. The story of Jesus, on the other
hand is based in self sacrifice. According to John 3:16, Christ allowed himself to die on the cross to
take on the pain of every person in the world. The contrast in motivations between the two divinities is
startling whether or not one believes either to be truth.
Jesus is reputed to have

Bibliography: 16 Introduction Social media campaigns provide an insight into the competitive market
to improve the communication and the brand identity of an organisation (Keller, 2014). In the case of
the tourism industry, social media like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter help firms to expand their
brand reach by building a relationship with customers through an open conversation process
(Ammerman, 2015). A social media campaign helps the tourism industry to achieve more customer
satisfaction and loyalty. Considering the words of Ramaseshan and Stein (2014), it is essential for a
social media campaign to select a suitable social media platform for engaging the customers with the
right choice of messages. Therefore, a tactical plan for a social media campaign is going to be
developed for Shropshire Hills Tourism, UK. The tactical plan attempts to create potential leads by
developing a photography competition campaign on Facebook. 1.0 SMART objective Specific

as the sum of the attitudes, customs and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another
(Dictionary.com). Sheri Inness, author of Lost in Space: Queer Geography and the Politics of
Location, argues that our relationship to a place and culture become elements in the construction of
our individual and collective identities whether queer or straight (148). In Zami, a biomythography by
Audre Lorde, the author describes many occurrences wherein her identity and behaviour was shaped
by her geographical location. Both of these works helped to raise my awareness of the cultural effect
on the queer community. The cultural standards presented in Zami and Lost in Space and there ...

Audre s interaction with her friends, the Branded , in New York City is a nurturing relationship. She
acts as a mother figure to the members of the Branded and Gennie (121, 88). This is due to her having
her own place that she had opened up to the other Branded members and her mother like instinct
towards Gennie. In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black lesbians (140). This
puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals. Lastly, when Audre moves to
Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a mother figure towards her (172).
Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora. This is in contrast to her previous
relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have been close in age to her, but Eudora is
considerably older than Audre when they begin their relationship. All of these examples demonstrate
that every time Audre moves to a new place she has a dislocation of identity (Inness, 138) and has to

A Brief Note On Psychic And Paranormal Phenomena
Parapsychology is the study of psychic and paranormal phenomena, more commonly known as psi
phenomena. These phenomena include psychokinesis, precognition, and extrasensory perception.
Psychokinesis is defined as the power to move objects through psychic means. Precognition is the
ability to foresee and predict the future. Extrasensory perception is the ability to sense things through
the power of the mind, rather than through the five traditional physical senses. Some people believe in
the reality of psi phenomena because parapsychologists are often able to put on convincing shows and
do seemingly impossible acts. Uri Geller convinced people around the world of his parapsychological
powers, as he could perform mind reading tricks and see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the subjects can easily cheat by seeing the shapes themselves or reading body language instead
of blindly guessing. The study would likely conclude that the subject is a psychic because they had
abnormal results, but this is a questionable argument by elimination because there is no evidence that
the abnormal results were due to psychic powers.
Parapsychologists explain the lack of evidence by claiming that psi phenomena are a type of elusive
phenomena, meaning that they do not work properly when skeptics are present. Therefore, people who
perform experiments on psi phenomena are causing the tests to be faulty. This explanation is an ad hoc
rescue because it creates a fake excuse for why psi phenomena cannot produce positive results when
tested. If the psi phenomena were actually real, scientists believe that the parapsychologists would
easily be able to supply prove of their existence. Furthermore, parapsychologists find it unfair the
scientific establishment has extremely high standards of evidence for psi phenomena. However,
extraordinary evidence is needed to prove extraordinary assertions. The scientific establishment views
parapsychology as a pseudoscience because while currently there is no concrete evidence of the
existence of psi phenomena, it is impossible to prove that psi phenomena are nonexistent.
Additionally, because there are no repeatable paranormal phenomena, the scientific community feels
that it is unlikely that such phenomena could exist.

Defining The Corporate Veil Its Legal And Ethical...
Defining the Corporate Veil Its Legal and Ethical Boundaries
Introduction
What is a viable reason for the Courts to pierce the Corporate Veil? The economy improves as
businesses expand and increase in revenue. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) dictates that
corporations go above and beyond in taking responsibility for the effect the corporation on has on the
environment and the social wellbeing. With as many people in production, the lower the employment
rate can be expected and the better the economy.
Through research, we will evaluate and define the Corporate Veil, identify legal and ethical dilemmas
and explain legal and ethical business decisions within the business organization.
What is the Corporate Veil?
A Corporation or LLC allows the individual to become a separate entity from the Corporation. Many
business owners and entrepreneur enter a partnership or corporation to protect their personal assets.
This is especially important when you are in the business to expand the business and market the
product/service. The corporate veil is defined as a situation in which courts put aside limited liability
and hold a corporation s shareholders or directors personally liable for the corporation s actions or
debts (LII, n.d.). There is an invisible shield that the veil separates the corporate entity and provides
protection for the people (directors, shareholders, etc.) also known as the alter ego , and keeps them
covered from personal liability behind the

Gender Differences Between Work And Life
In Manage your work, manage your life, Groysberg and Abrahams use research and survey data to
show gender differences on how success is viewed. There were some similarities and obvious gender
differences in answers. On another note the article by Stewart Friedman, Work + home + community +

life. Each article s content can be a guide in career planning and to help with one s professional
development.
The article Manage your work, manage your life discusses the popular topic of work and life balance.
Interviews were conducted and researched with over 4,000 executives worldwide and 82 executives in
a leadership course over a five year course (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). They broke down and
compared men and women to determine how they defined what professional success means to them,
what personal success means and what their partners contribute (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). The
survey data showed some true gender differences on what each values more. A large number of
women define professional success by their individual achievement over everything else. Men on the
other hand define it by making a difference, next to working with a good team in a good environment
and respect from others (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). When asked what personal success meant
to men and women both chose rewarding relationships with family, people they love and community

The Effects of Society in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway...
Society is a constant changing idea, whether that change be from region to region or a period of time.
People move through it without thinking what they really are doing. Often they do not realize how
much pressure society places on one s being. It is the basis of how a person forms their opinions,
beliefs, and morals. The structure of behavior rests in the society one is raised in. People s acceptance
of one another and a desire to conform create a world where people are struggling to fit in. Virginia
Woolf sees this.
Woolf views society as a center for conflict for the characters in her novel. They struggle with the
internal dilemma of whether they should be who they want to be or what everyone else wants them to

Septimus is afraid that if he allows any emotion to penetrate him, whether that be joy or sorrow, then
he will be forced to deal with the loss of his friend. As Emily Jensen states, war cuts short Septimus s
first feelings for Evans, and because he does not understand the meaning of that relationship, he
participates in what becomes a frustration of his ability to feel at all. (426) The idea that Jensen
describes is an example of why Septimus refuses to feel any emotion. The frustration comes from the
moment when Evans was killed and Septimus felt nothing. This is found when Woolf says:
...when Evans was killed, just before Armistice, in Italy, Septimus, far from showing any emotion or
recognizing that here was the end of a friendship congratulated himself upon feeling very little and
very reasonably. The War had taught him. It was sublime. He had gone through the whole show,
friendship, European War, death, had won promotion, was still under thirty and was bound to survive.
He was right there. The last shells missed him. He watched them explode with indifference. (130)
When Septimus does not feel anything when watching his friend die, he retracts himself from not only
his own feelings but also the feelings of everyone else. A fear of acceptance of Evan s death is what
pushed Septimus to create a world where there is no feeling whatsoever. As Molly Hoff stated,
Septimus is irredeemably alone, because he has completely shut himself

He had many good qualities of a successful leader, which is why a lot of people liked him. He had
good communication skills and he was trustworthy, during one of Trudeau s Prime Minister races
against the Progressive Conservatives, he promised all the citizens that he would eliminate or lower
the sale tax if he won. He kept his words and after he won the election, the sale tax did become lower.
He did this because he wanted to share the wealth of Canada more evenly among all different social
classes. Other than that, he also has a visionary outlook, his action speaks louder than words, he has
the ability to motivate people around him, he is consistent and he has the ability to stand against
critics. Besides, Trudeau was a very educated person himself, he went to some of the best schools like
the London school of Economics, the Jesuit College Jean de Brebeuf, Harvard University and Mcgill
University and was very educated politically and economically. Before being a PM, Trudeau started
his political career as a lawyer, then an economic policy adviser, that s why he has so many

PepsiCo, Inc acquired Pizza Hut in 1977, adding the family business to a corporate list sharing space
with Pepsi Cola® brand soft drinks, and Frito Lay® brand snack foods. In October of 1977, PepsiCo
founded Tricon (Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell) and on May 16, 2002 Tricon officially became Yum!
Brands.
Pizza Hut has experienced many changes in the way they do business over the years, with leadership
and ownership being only two of the most important changes. Franchising expanded the revenue and
the visibility and brand knowledge. Home delivery set Pizza Hut apart from the crowd, but the newest
addition to the Pizza Hut family of options, the ability to order a pizza on line and have it delivered to
a family s doorstep, has gone a long way in proving that e Business is a force to be reckoned with. The
emergence of e Business opened new money making opportunities to businesses once thought to only
exist in the physical marketplace.
As with any business, opportunities require planning and effective management. Restaurant Business,
Fortune, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal (Pizza Hut, 2006) have cited Pizza Hut as an
innovative business leader for all its business accomplishments. Pizza Hut has built a reputation for
excellence through innovation and a commitment to satisfying the customer s needs as they have
changed throughout the years. Expansion into e Business is just one of those changes.

Low Interest Rate Long Term Effect
Low Interest Rates Long Term Effect
The prolonged low interest rate environment is transforming the banking industry from savings and
loans to service and loans, said Dan Geller, executive vice president of research firm Market Rates
Insight in San Anselmo, Calif. (Fitzpatrick) Consumers may think that the continued low interest rates
are a profound thing, but banks on the other hand think much differently. Consumers are refinancing
their houses at rates as low as 2.875%, while big banks like Hudson City Bancorp Inc., a mortgage
lender, are being forced to sell themselves to M amp;T Bank Corp. These super low interest rates are
complicating the industry s journey to a recovery from the financial crisis. In the article Low Rates

As we learned in the book, the negative inflation causes an increase in the demand for bonds, because
of the decrease in expected return on real assets. This in turn caused the demand curve to shift to the
right. The negative inflation also raised the real interest rate, thereby causing the supply of bonds to
adjust, moving the supply curve to the left. In the end this led to an increase in the bond price and a
decrease of interest rates. In the book it explains to us that the interest rate is negatively related to the
bond price. In other words, when the equilibrium bond price rises, the equilibrium interest rate falls
and vise versa. There are other factors which led to the down fall of interest rates in the Japanese
market. For example, the lack of profitable investments opportunities in Japan, and the business cycle
contraction and the decrease of wealth during the business cycle contractions. These all would lead to
the increase in bond price and the decrease of interest rates. This application shows us that low interest
rates are not a good thing. In Japan s case, the low and negative interest rates were a sign that their
economy was in trouble with falling prices and a contracting economy. The interest will only rise back
to normal levels when their economy returns back to a better economy. Fitzpatrick goes on to explain
that because of the low interest rates banks will have to consider new ways to make money like

likely wouldn t. All those baseball players are good and they re all African American, thanks to Branch
Rickey they could all play and have successful careers in the MLB, Branch Rickey helped end
segregation. Branch Rickey had a heavy impact on the game of baseball
Branch Rickey was an important piece of current baseball because of the contributions. Branch Rickey
created a farm system that allowed access to younger players and when those players had enough
experience, managers called them to bring them up to the big leagues. Rickey created the farm system
because the Cardinals had very little money. They could not afford to outbid other teams for
established players. Under the farm system, the Cardinals bought minor league franchises and hired
young players. The farm clubs provided the players with experience. The best players then moved up
to play with the Cardinals (Sports Champions, 1). This quote shows how teams with less money can

Waiting For The Barbarians Essay
Waiting for the Barbarians is a novel by John Maxwell Coetzee that tells the story of a colonialist
regime settled in an ambiguous part of the world. The story follows a civil servant, a Magistrate, as he
struggles to balance his duties and his morals when rumors swirl around the empire about the
barbarians planning an offensive. To investigate, a colonel named Joll is sent by a secret faction of the
police to investigate. While the Magistrate believes the rumors to be false, as he had been living at his
outpost for years in peace, Joll, unconvinced and ready to do his job, decides to interrogate the
barbarians in ways the Magistrate finds horrifying, and often leading to false information fabricated
for the torture to cease. Along with other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a sexual tension starts to develop between them, he struggles to see her as human rather than just a
barbarian. On page 49 he tells her: I have been trying to remember you as you were before all this
happened, explaining to her that he finds it difficult to remember her without her scars. On one hand,
this is a perfect representation of how one can be turned into the other, (or in this case the barbarian ).
It is also further shown when he says: On that day she was still unmarked [...], on page 33, as well as
However kindly she may be treated by her own people, she will never be courted and married in the
normal way; she is marked for life as the property of a stranger, on page 135. In fact, as a normal girl
she could belong to her people and could pass as a member of the empire had she been dressed in
appropriate attire. With the scars, both physical and emotional, inflicted to her by Joll, she could now
neither belong to the empire, with her wounds that showed her past nor belong to her people as she
will carry forever the marks of the oppressors on her body. For that, and the knowledge he further
gains about the empire and its methods because of the girl, the magistrate declares on page 78: my
alliance with the guardians of the Empire is over, I have set myself in opposition, becoming himself,
after much self analysis, an other too; neither a barbarian, as they will forever hold him responsible
and call him guilty, nor a member of the empire, as they brand him a traitor and publicly humiliate
him on page 120 (even as he takes back his post at the very end of the book). On the other hand, this
pushes him to question whether he is as evil or monstrous as Joll and the many others working for the
empire. However, his true

Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally...
Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet
Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions
that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of
these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her
late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love
Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet?
At the beginning of the play when we learn about the late King Hamlet s death and Gertrude s hasty
marriage to his brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the
late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well.
There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes
through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains
him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the
king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius.
This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius,
this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her
life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on
Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although
this is the case she is not included in major decisions.
As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she
loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. This
could be explained in likeness of a mothers concern but it is also arguable that she has no knowledge
that the madness is pretence; this

  • 2. Binge Drinking On College Campuses Sabrina Peters Research Final Draft English Composition Mr. Paul October 28, 2014 Binge Drinking On College Campuses Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue that someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those who are in favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences regarding psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger problem concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known as binge drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic beverages can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously reducing the dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college students, and drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college freshman come into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be a significant influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. Binge drinking is so common that it is expected of a college student to drink once getting into the university. The reasons in which students decide to binge drink can vary from students ... • 4. Middle Colonies Essay The Middle colonies consisted of four of the thirteen colonies founded by the English in America. In 1609, Henry Hudson, a Dutch explorer, traveled in the Middle colonies by going on a journey into the Hudson River and Delaware Bay. In 1621, he colonized what was then New Netherland, with New Amsterdam as the capitol. The Duke of York, was given New Netherland from his brother King Charles II, and renamed the land after himself naming it New York, and the capitol was then named New York City. Being that New York was so large, New Jersey became another Middle colony, founded by the Duke of York s friends, Sir George Carteret and Sir John Berkeley. New York was first settled by the Dutch and Pennsylvania was founded on the basis of religious tolerance, which are some of the main factors to why the Middle colonies were so diverse. With the New England colonies being settled by Puritans, it wasn t a very accepting region for other religions. The Southern colonies was also mainly a plantation economy which did not attract very many immigrants. In the 1700 s population in the Middle colonies flourished with immigrants from places such as Germany, Ireland, and Scotland. In 1770, about 85,000 German immigrants came to the Middle colonies. Most of the immigrants were made up of Germans because of the War going on in Germany at the time, and they wanted to escape the harsh life there in America. Scots Irish were also major settlers mainly consisting of farm laborers or tenant farmers. Although the trip over was miserable because of seasickness, bad sanitation, and starvation, immigrants were still able to escape their lives in Europe and were welcomed in the Middle colonies unlike in the other colonial regions. In 1803 a man by the name of John Dalton Proposed that matter was comprised of atoms that were very simple and solid with no structure. He also put forward that each element was different from each other with different atomic weights. J.J. Thomson first discovered the electron in 1897 which lead to him developing a new model of the atom in 1904 1909, this new model is often referred to as the plum pudding model due to Thomson visualizing the atom as a positive sphere in which negative electrons embedded into it. Thomson envisaged the electrons to have some sort of structure or pattern to them rather than just loose as the name, plum pudding implies. Earnest Rutherford Developed an atomic model in 1911 called the planetary model. This model has positive protons in the nucleus with negative electrons orbiting it like the sun. He developed this model due to him discovering the nucleus. Later in 1913 Niels Bohr Realised that the electrons that orbit the nucleus must occupy stable, non radiating orbits. This led to him developing the Bohr Model which was electrons occupying stable shells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Terror Known as Robespierre Robespierre was one of the most significant men throughout the period of the French Revolution; he had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death. Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power, the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. • 11. Ark 300 Cubits Surely as God creates the grandeur of life, He holds an expectation for the humans He crafts in His image. As Old Testament generations pass, the gap between expectation and reality widens, and God must establish commandments of His desire for humanity through Moses. His want is for humanity to love Him by way of obedience out of fear of His power. It is not possible for humans to fear or love God without keeping to his commandments. Therefore God s ultimate desire for humanity is obedience, displayed in His readiness to favor those who submit to him and punish though who do not. From the beginning of Creation in Genesis, it is evident that obedience is what God asks of man. The first man and woman are free to live as they please in Eden: working the garden, naming the animals, and eating the fruits. • 16. Labelling Theory Labeling theory had its origins in Suicide, a book by French sociologist Émile Durkheim. He found that crime is not so much a violation of a penal code as it is an act that outrages society. He was the first to suggest that deviant labeling satisfies that function and satisfies society s need to control the behavior. As a contributor to American Pragmatism and later a member of the Chicago School, George Herbert Mead posited that the self is socially constructed and reconstructed through the interactions which each person has with the community. The labeling theory suggests that people obtain labels from how others view their tendencies or behaviors. Each individual is aware of how they are judged by others because he or she has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Mind, Self, and Society (1934),[1] he showed how infants come to know persons first and only later come to know things. According to Mead, thought is both a social and pragmatic process, based on the model of two persons discussing how to solve a problem. Our self image is, in fact, constructed of ideas about what we think others are thinking about us. While we make fun of those who visibly talk to themselves, they have only failed to do what the rest of us do in keeping the internal conversation to ourselves. Human behavior, Mead stated, is the result of meanings created by the social interaction of conversation, both real and imaginary. [edit]Frank Tannenbaum Frank Tannenbaum is considered the grandfather of labeling theory. His Crime and Community (1938),[2] describing the social interaction involved in crime, is considered a pivotal foundation of modern criminology. While the criminal differs little or not at all from others in the original impulse to first commit a crime, social interaction accounts for continued acts that develop a pattern of interest to sociologists. Tannenbaum first introduced the idea of tagging .[3] While conducting his studies with delinquent youth, he found that a negative tag or label often contributed to further involvement in delinquent activities. The article also says that as the symptoms get worse, patients might experience weight loss and weakness. Once a person feels fatigue, that means that the disease is advanced or cirrhosis is present. As the liver gets weakened into a condition of cirrhosis, liver enzymes increase because whenever a liver cell breaks down, it release its enzymes from itself. Also, as the liver a patient gets scarred, it starts to swell up to 3 times of its size. The I chord confuses the tonal direction becasuse the listener expects the ii to be followed by V and then I. This is even more confusing because the scale that accompanies the I chord implies V (the chord the listener wants to hear). The next bar rounds off this cadential prolongation (ii V I) but the exposition does not yet end. The arrival to I does not occur until beat three of the bar. The first two beats create even more prolongation as they nearly modulate. And even after this, the exposition is not done. There is a two bar codetta (a one bar figure played twice, the second time with variation) before the strong V7 I cadence with a C pedal tone. As the world population continues to rise, there are growing concerns for maintaining agricultural farmlands, especially in developing countries with drought and famine. This has also led to many shortages of food, due to high demand because of the increasing population. Demographists worry that if this growing issue continues to hurt food consumption of povertized countries, than there will be more deaths because the population is increasing, but the food levels are staying the same, or even decreasing. Some of these demographists believe that this is occurring, because the developed countries are intaking too much food. Others believe that this is because of the overpopulated countries, and the fact that they are in higher need for food because of their population. Another problem that arises within this is deforestation. Deforestation is a part of this growing problem because when massive woodlands are cut down, the lands become dry and bodies of water in or around the land dry up, making crops unsuitable for crop growth and crop rotation, leading to the lands to turn into non arable lands. This is also known as desertification. This correlates with population growth because if lands become non arable, then crops won t grow there, leading to starvation in developing countries with higher population needs and demands. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense of thee even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison (Euripides 28). John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The quote from the Bacchae is rooted in Dionysus s individual desire for revenge upon those who snubbed him by not believing in him. Nowhere in the text is Dionysus noted for performing any large acts of self sacrifice. The story of Jesus, on the other hand is based in self sacrifice. According to John 3:16, Christ allowed himself to die on the cross to take on the pain of every person in the world. The contrast in motivations between the two divinities is startling whether or not one believes either to be truth. Jesus is reputed to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black lesbians (140). This puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals. Lastly, when Audre moves to Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a mother figure towards her (172). Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora. This is in contrast to her previous relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have been close in age to her, but Eudora is considerably older than Audre when they begin their relationship. Parapsychologists explain the lack of evidence by claiming that psi phenomena are a type of elusive phenomena, meaning that they do not work properly when skeptics are present. Therefore, people who perform experiments on psi phenomena are causing the tests to be faulty. This explanation is an ad hoc rescue because it creates a fake excuse for why psi phenomena cannot produce positive results when tested. It is the basis of how a person forms their opinions, beliefs, and morals. The structure of behavior rests in the society one is raised in. People s acceptance of one another and a desire to conform create a world where people are struggling to fit in. Virginia Woolf sees this. (426) The idea that Jensen describes is an example of why Septimus refuses to feel any emotion. The frustration comes from the moment when Evans was killed and Septimus felt nothing. This is found when Woolf says: ...when Evans was killed, just before Armistice, in Italy, Septimus, far from showing any emotion or recognizing that here was the end of a friendship congratulated himself upon feeling very little and very reasonably. The War had taught him. It was sublime. He had gone through the whole show, friendship, European War, death, had won promotion, was still under thirty and was bound to survive. He was right there. The last shells missed him. He watched them explode with indifference. As we learned in the book, the negative inflation causes an increase in the demand for bonds, because of the decrease in expected return on real assets. This in turn caused the demand curve to shift to the right. The negative inflation also raised the real interest rate, thereby causing the supply of bonds to adjust, moving the supply curve to the left. In the end this led to an increase in the bond price and a decrease of interest rates. In the book it explains to us that the interest rate is negatively related to the bond price. In other words, when the equilibrium bond price rises, the equilibrium interest rate falls and vise versa. There are other factors which led to the down fall of interest rates in the Japanese market. For example, the lack of profitable investments opportunities in Japan, and the business cycle contraction and the decrease of wealth during the business cycle contractions. These all would lead to the increase in bond price and the decrease of interest rates. This application shows us that low interest rates are not a good thing. In Japan s case, the low and negative interest rates were a sign that their economy was in trouble with falling prices and a contracting economy. The interest will only rise back to normal levels when their economy returns back to a better economy. • 49. Waiting For The Barbarians Essay Waiting for the Barbarians is a novel by John Maxwell Coetzee that tells the story of a colonialist regime settled in an ambiguous part of the world. The story follows a civil servant, a Magistrate, as he struggles to balance his duties and his morals when rumors swirl around the empire about the barbarians planning an offensive. To investigate, a colonel named Joll is sent by a secret faction of the police to investigate. While the Magistrate believes the rumors to be false, as he had been living at his outpost for years in peace, Joll, unconvinced and ready to do his job, decides to interrogate the barbarians in ways the Magistrate finds horrifying, and often leading to false information fabricated for the torture to cease. On page 49 he tells her: I have been trying to remember you as you were before all this happened, explaining to her that he finds it difficult to remember her without her scars. On one hand, this is a perfect representation of how one can be turned into the other, (or in this case the barbarian ). It is also further shown when he says: On that day she was still unmarked [...], on page 33, as well as However kindly she may be treated by her own people, she will never be courted and married in the normal way; she is marked for life as the property of a stranger, on page 135. In fact, as a normal girl she could belong to her people and could pass as a member of the empire had she been dressed in appropriate attire. For that, and the knowledge he further gains about the empire and its methods because of the girl, the magistrate declares on page 78: my alliance with the guardians of the Empire is over, I have set myself in opposition, becoming himself, after much self analysis, an other too; neither a barbarian, as they will forever hold him responsible and call him guilty, nor a member of the empire, as they brand him a traitor and publicly humiliate him on page 120 (even as he takes back his post at the very end of the book). On the other hand, this pushes him to question whether he is as evil or monstrous as Joll and the many others working for the empire. However, his true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet? Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well. There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius. This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius, this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although this is the case she is not included in major decisions. As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. This could be explained in likeness of a mothers concern but it is also arguable that she has no knowledge that the madness is pretence; this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
