Survey Results
From looking at the
analysis of this
question am now able
to see that my target
audience can be
narrowed down to
being more popular
within a female
audience. But since
roughly 60% were
female, its clear that
there around just
under half of the
people who answered
were male. This
makes me think,
because females
didn’t completely over
rule the male, that my
magazine should
cater to a more
unisex target
audience.
This question very
clearly displays the fact
that most of the people
who are interested in my
magazine, are mostly in
the age group 16-20.
This is evident as 15
people were in this age
group, where as only 6
people answered
otherwise. I can also see
that an age range that I
will not have to after my
magazine to is 31-40 as
nobody answered for
this. I now am aware that
I am going to cater my
magazine to a young
target audience, so I can
begin looking at how this
as been done in existing
magazines; which I can
develop into my work.
After handing out my
questionnaire I saw that
17 out of the 21 people I
asked were most
definitely interested in
music. Also I had no
responses that claimed
they were not. This is
beneficial for my
questionnaire as I know
that everyone who
answered the
questionnaire is suitable
and will know how to
help me with the
development of my
magazine. In other
words, I am not wasting
any of the responses on
people who wouldn’t be
buying a music
magazine and who aren’t
even interested in music.
This part of my survey allowed
me to see the genres that were
most popular from the
responses I received.
I can see that pop music was
the most commonly chosen,
which was what I was
expecting to happen.
However what I didn’t expect
to see was that alternative was
the second most popular
answer. This means that I
could incorporate elements of
this genre into my magazine as
alternative and rock music can
be linked together. This would
mean that I would have a
larger, more varied target
audience, compared to if I was
to just se rock; due to the low
amount of responses.
I can see that the people
who answered the
questions don’t often buy
magazines. This implied
that in my magazine I will
include more
information. For
example, I would use a
months worth of
information rather than a
weeks worth, as I know
that they would buy
these magazines less
frequently.
Even those who
answered ‘never’ will
have answered
relevantly as they may
not buy music
magazines but they may
buy other genres of
magazine.
I can see clearly that the
most popular answer was
that my target audience is
attracted to their ‘favourite
artist on the cover age.
This implies that I am
going to use photo of an
artist that is very clear of
who it is , so this can
apply to all of those who
answered this. Also ‘the
colours’, ‘titles’ and
‘featured artists’. This is
evidence that will impact
my magazine as I am
going to include features
artists (perhaps interviews
or posters), and pay
attention to the colours
and titles being fitting to
the rock genre of the
magazine.
NME and Billboard were
the two most popular
magazine brands that y
target audience
answered. This gives me
an idea of what the
majority of young people
enjoy.
This means that I can
move on from this by
looking into billboard and
NME magazines,
particularly their front
covers and what aspects
are attracting this
audience. I have already
done but I want to look
closer into NME
magazines particularly as
this is that same genre as
the one I have chosen.
As I can see that
many answered yes
or neutral, and only
one parson answered
no I am likely to
include free gifts in
my magazine. I will
mention that the
magazine contains
free gifts on the cover
page. as this is the
first thing people will
see.
This will probably be
in a puff as this will
entice them if it is
bold and clearly
visible on the page.
As all of the gift options
were chosen an equal
about of times, this may
mean that I will have to
determined what I will
include in my magazine. I
could decide by looking
at other popular
magazines to see the
gifts they use. Using
posters would mean that
on the page I could have
smaller previews, but this
would mean having to
take more photographs of
different artists. I would
like to do this but I may
not have enough time.
This is something I will
make a decision on when
I start planning my
