Bauer Media Group is a European media company headquartered in Germany that publishes over 600 magazines and owns radio and TV stations. Originally a small German printing house, it expanded internationally including acquiring UK publisher Emap. Emap was formed in 1947 and grew to include newspapers, later focusing entirely on digital.

• Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company,
headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more
than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV
stations around the world. The portfolio includes print shops, postal,
distribution and marketing services. Bauer Media Group has a workface
of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries.
• Bauer Verlagsgruppe has been managed by five generations of the
family. Originally a small printing house in Germany, Bauer Media Group
entered the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987. Under the
name of H Bauer Publishing they became Britain's third largest
Bauer further expanded in the UK with the purchase of Emap Consumer
Media and Emap Radio in 2008. The group acquired Australian
publisher, ACP Magazines from a London-based private equity firm,
Capital Partners, in 2012. That increased the company’s turnover to
than €2 billion.

• Richard Winfrey purchased the Spalding Guardian in 1887 and later
purchased the Lynn News and the Peterborough Advertiser; he also started
the North Cambridgeshire Echo. Sir Richard Winfrey was a Liberal politician
and campaigner for agricultural rights and the paper were used to promote
his political views. During World War II Winfrey’s newspaper interests began
to be passed over to his son, Richard Pattinson Winfrey. In 1947, under the
direction of ‘Pat’ Winfrey, the family’s newspaper titles were consolidated to
from the East Midland Allied Press (EMAP). This was achieved by the merging
of Northamptonshire Printing and Publishing Co., the Peterborough
Advertiser Co., the West Norfolk and King’s Lynn Newspaper Co. and
commercial printing sections at Rushden, King’s Lynn and Bury St Edmunds.
• EMAO grew significantly in the late 1970s under the guidance of the
extremely successful partnership of Sir Robin Miller and David Arculus.
• In 1996 EMAP PLC agreed to sell its 65 newspaper titles, including the 300
year old Stamford Mercury, to Johnston Press for £111 million.
• In 2015, EMAP took the step to go completely digital after 70 years of being
a traditional publishing company. They decided to retire the company name.
5. DEVELOPMENT HELL LTD
• Development Hell Ltd., a media company, publishes
magazines in the music industry. The company,
through its subsidiary, operates a social network
clubbing Website. It also offers consulting services.
The company was incorporated in 2001 and is based
in London, United Kingdom. Their most famous
magazine to publish is Mixmag, ’the worlds biggest
dance music and clubbing destination’. They also
bought DontStayIn.com another website with links to
the music industry and other clubbing events.
6. WHICH ONE I WOULD USE…
• For my music magazine the best media institution to
be part of would be Development Hell Ltd. This is
because they have knowledge in the field of music
with them being part of the music industry and also
having worked with music magazines previously. Their
target audience is 18-24 year olds which is very similar
to my target audience for my music magazine,
allowing it to be seen by those that its aimed at, also
increasing profit and popularity.
