2. Introduction to Questionnaire Analysis...
We conducted our questionnaire so that we would be able to get the most out of our target
audience, in the ways of opinions, what they like and what scares them. The information we have
retrieve from our questionnaire will be taken into consideration while producing our media
package which falls into the slasher sub-genre in the hope that will it will appeal to our target
audience as we desire.
We sent out our questionnaire to 20 individuals, so to every question we have 20 answers.
3. How old are you?
The reason this question was asked to the audience is to determine their
age. Knowing the age of the majority of our audience is important as it will
enable us to assess what different age brackets are interested in/ find scary
within a horror film, thus affecting the narrative of our film. This will not
only help when creating our trailer but also the rest of the media package
we will produce, for the same reason, we will be able to see what our
audience desire visually/aesthetically when looking at the other media
pieces. The majority of our audience fall into the 15-23 years old age
bracket (85% of our audience). Knowing the age of our audience/people
that answered our questionnaire will also be useful if there is any extreme
outlying results, we can look at the age of the person and if it is significantly
different to the ages of the rst of the group, we can see the reason they
answered this way is due to the different in age.
4. What is your favourite horror film?
This question will help us to understand what our target audience enjoy watching.
From asking this question we are able to look at the films people suggested as their
favorite horror films and compare similar plots, subgenres and villains that people
find most interesting in films, therefore giving us inspiration for our own trailer. We
gave the group 6 options to choose from, this shows that they all seem to like similar
films to each other, therefore helping us to see features certain films have in
common and incorporate this into our own media package.
The options we gave were crafted to
cover various sub genres, Slasher,
Psychological, Supernatural and Crime
Thriller. The results of the questionnaire
show us that the audience seem to have a
preference in Slasher and Supernatural.
5. Which Of The Following Sub-Genres Would You
Choose To Watch?
This question, similarly to the last one, was asked to get an insight to what our audience enjoys watching
on screen, it enabled us to choose which sub genre to focus out trailer on as we would understand what
the majority of our audience prefer to watch. The pie chart presented displays that 40% of our audience
claim to prefer to watch the slasher genre than any other genre, therefore leading us to pick Slasher as
out sub genre of choice. The other 3 choices of Horror Sub-Genre we presented to our audience all
received fairly even result with slasher way ahead. I presume that this is due to the versatility
that the Slasher sub-genre holds regarding Villains and their motives and
the ways in which they slay their victims. It may also be due to the
excitement that the genre withholds, as most films contains chases,
escape attempts and killing rampages, which is entertaining to an
audience of today.
6. List Two Of Your Fears...
A horror film is all about scaring your audience, and different
people find different things scarier than other, this is why we
chose to ask this question to gage an idea of what events, objects,
activities or people may scare our audience. We were able to
look at common answers and create a trailer that our audience
would find scary. Of course one of the most common answers we
received was death, and as a horror film ours will of course
include its fair share of death. However we aim to include a large
amount of gruesome deaths which will shock the audience
leading to fear.
7. How Often Do You Watch Horror Films?
The question wasn't asked to gain information in order to help us with
developing a narrative or any details of our horror film like a lot of the
other questions. It was purely asked to gage how many of our audience
are big horror fans and how many aren't. Looking at the results we
received we can see we only have a small number of big horror fans
however we have a large number of our audience that are interested in
horror films and do occasionally watch. Therefore they will be familiar
with conventions of horror films meaning that it is worth while us
including common conventions as they will be recognized by the
audience.
8. Do Film Trailers And Posters Influence You To Go
And See The Film?
This question was asked so that we could interpret an understanding of
how important our the other pieces of our media package other than the
trailer are. The results show that our audience find the poster and front
cover very influential when deciding to watch a film, reinforcing the
importance of have an strong media packages. It is conventional to have a
symbiotic link between the media pieces enabling the audience to
recognise that they are all from the same media package. This is a
convention we will incorporate into our media package to help the
audience recognise the link, get them thinking about our film and then
hopefully build a desire to watch it.
9. If You Are Influenced To Watch The Film, Why?
This question followed up from the previous one, and as 90%
of our audience claimed that the other media content has an
influence over whether they watch a film, we had many
answers to this question. This question was asked to find out
what specific features are effective, this way we can use these
features our audience find persuasive in our own package.
Most of the feedback consisted of comments suggesting that
when the package makes the film look scary they're drawn to
it, our audience also like it when the villain is evident, this is a
convention we had previously decided to include but it's good
to know our audience appreciate it.
10. Name A Horror Film You Went To See Because Of
The Trailer...
The results we concluded from this question enabled us to study trailers that have worked to persuade
our audience in the past, we watched all the trailers we received as answers as a group and discussed
similarities between these trailers. We were then able to produce a list of features and successful
conventions that we can include in our trailer.
This way we know there will be elements
to our trailer that we are sure ar
appealing to our audience, helping to
attract them to our film and convince
them to watch it. In conclusion, this
question was all about drawing
inspiration for our own trailer to make it
the best we can.
11. Select 2 Options From the List Below this Film Trailer
This question enabled us to work out which parts of a film
trailer were most effective, enabling us to include these
features within our own trailer. The information we concluded
suggests that the audience found jump scares an important part
of the trailer. We figured that this is because they scare the
audience, and of course this is the reason for a horror film.
Weapons, costume, narrative and lighting are also important
aspects of a horror film trailer. The weapon suggests how the
victims

will be killed and is also the most iconic art of the
slasher genre, the costume of the villain
suggests features of their identity, lighting is
used to depict the mood and portray
characteristic of different characters.
12. How Often Do You Purchase Film Magazines?
This question was asked to our audience so that we can form a understanding
of how regularly our audience buy film magazines. Based on the data we
collects we can understand that a large portion of our audience do not buy film
magazines regularly. This indicates to us that we will need to include some
stand out features within our magazine in order to to make our audience want
to purchase one. It also reinforces how important the other part of the package
are. If people aren't going to find out about of film via the magazine then we
need to ensure that the maximum amount of people possible are drawn to our
trailer and poster in order to promote our film.
13. What Features Do You Want To Find In A Film
Considering we previously discovered our audience aren't great
buyers
Magazine?
of film magazines, this question enables us to understand what features may make our
audience want to buy a film magazine, therefore enabling us to include these features
within our trailer. We will include many sell lines on the cover in order to promote our
inside content. By looking at the data collected it is clear that the audience like film
reviewers and what to discover the opinions other hold of films. This is information we can
take and include when designing the cover of our magazine, as we will make it evident
that the content inside included reviews. Information about
films soon to be release was also a popular feature, therefore we
will also use this topic for content within a ell line so the
audience can see what content in includes, and as it is two pieces
of content that they desire to red about, this will give us more of
a chance of our audience purchasing the magazine.
