Question 1:
This question gave us an insight to the gender of
people who were going to be answering the
questions within the this questionnaire. A
majority of the people were female. It would have
been better if more males had answered the
question because we do not intend on having a
targeted gender audience.
Gender is a very important factor when it comes
to creating a product for a specific audience
(primary audience) as there are stereotypes.
These are that women like romantic films and
men like action films.
Question 2:
This question allowed us to know the age of the people
who were answering the questionnaire. Some of them
were fairly old, however, a large majority of the people
were under 18. Under 18 might have had the higher
number because younger people are known to use
technology and social media more than the older
generation.
This will influence our decision on the age of our target
audience as we have their results of what they enjoy
and what they don’t.
Age is a very important factor because we have to
decide what we want our BBFC film rating to be.
Question 3:
In this question we asked members what
their favourite type of movie was. We had
a huge variety of answers but the results
show that the genre ‘horror’ was the most
favoured of them all. This will influence
our decision on what our media piece
should be as a majority of the people that
we put this survey out to voted that they
preferred horror. This film was perhaps
chosen as the favourite because of the
number of young people we had complete
the survey. It is proven, from my research
that people aged 15-24 engage in horror
films more than any other age group.
The next favoured genre was
action/adventure, we may contain some
scenes with action and adventure to
appeal to these people so that we can
have a larger audience.
Question 4:
This question asked the audience the
opposite of the previous question as we
wanted to know the least favoured genre
of film. The least favourite genre was
‘Romance’. This was quite surprising as
the gender majority who completed this
survey was females. It is stereotypically
suggested that females love horror films,
however, my results challenge this
assumption. The genres that have no
answer to them suggest that they would
be suitable genres for our final product to
be. The reason for the asking of this
question is because we wanted to know
what our potential target audience
preferred.
Question 5:
This question was asked to see how
often people go to the cinema.
Knowing this information means that if
we were to distribute our film we
would know where to distribute first
(e.g. the cinema or online), and which
method of audience consumption of
media texts would get the film a good
profit.
Question 6:
The final question was asked to find out
who our potential audience consume
media texts with. As we had expected,
most watch films with their friends, this
means that we do not really have to worry
about parents viewing pleasures as the
results show that people watch films with
others of a similar age to them. However,
because most ‘family’ was our next highest
vote we might have to contain some family
friendly scenes.
