1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
2. DECIDING
All of the films that we have researched have been distributed by
both major and independent distributor companies.
It would be hard for us to get a major distributor company because
it was made on a low budget and have no famous people.
3. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
It is a main multinational media conglomerate which owns many
distribution marketing company's such as Ticket master. It is one of the
largest American picture companies.
It promotes a lot of rom-coms, as well as other genres too.
This is my main choice of distribution companies because it is very well
known so therefore our film will get a lot of attention and views.
4. SONY PICTURES
Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. is the American television and
film production and distribution unit of Japanese multinational
technology and media conglomerate Sony.
This was the distributor for Stepbrothers which our first idea was
originally based on.
5. COLUMBIA PICTURES
Columbia Pictures Industries is an American film production and
distribution studio, that is part of the Columbia Tri-Star Motion
Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures
An example of rom com they produced is 50 First Dates
6. MOMENTUM PICTURES
Momentum Pictures is one of the leading independent motion
picture distributors in the UK and Ireland and releases approximately
20 theatrical films a year, with several dtv releases.
7. SONY PICTURES CLASSICS
An autonomous division of Sony Pictures Entertainment that
distributes, produces and acquires independent films from the United
States and around the world.
This could be good to distribute our film because it is a subsidiary of
Sony which is a major company, however it still produces
independent films on a much smaller budget which is better
for us. They also distribute a lot of indie rom-coms such as
Saving Face.
8. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS IS
OUR DISTRIBUTOR
Although Universal Studios is a major distributor, we have decided
to go with it because we feel it will suit our film and they
produce a lot of different rom-coms, such as The Five Year
Engagement.
However, we would probably have been better to go with a
smaller, independent distributor such as Sony pictures classics
and hope they would consider a theatrical release.
9. WE MEDIA
We could, of course, distribute our film ourselves
This is due to we media
Convergence also helps this as it has allowed all technologies to come
together and so people will be able to view it anywhere
We would need to find suitable distribution platforms online such as
iTunes and YouTube which would not be too hard
We have already done this via face book and YouTube ourselves when
getting audience feedback
