A Field Trip is an educational excursion or outing where a

interest. Field trips are designed to provide hands-on learning

TEACHING METHODOLOGY:
1) Choose the Right Destination - There are certain factors that teachers
have to take into account while selecting a destination for the field
trip. The location ought to have relevance to the curriculum of
students as it provides students with the scope for gaining
practical knowledge.
2) Establish Rules in Advance - You can make a list of the rules that
students should follow during the course of the trip. You can
distribute a copy of these rules to all the students in order to make
the rules familiar to them.

3) Safety Comes First - Make sure you take the necessary precautions for
the trip. Always carry an emergency first aid kit with you in case of an
emergency.
4) Collect Consent Letters - You should collect consent letters from your
students. You can prepare the format and give it to your students and get
it signed by their parents. This is an important step that teachers should
follow and should not miss out on at any cost.
5) Take Down Emergency Numbers - Don’t forget to collect all the
emergency numbers that are necessary throughout the trip. If you want to
keep a list with yourself, you can make one. Also, collect the number of
students’ parents and local guardians. You can also ask students to
memorize the emergency numbers, which may include the number of in-
charge teachers, their parents, and local guardians.

HOW TO PREPARE
STUDENTS BEFORE THE
FIELD TRIP: -
1. Discuss the purpose of the field trip and how it relate to the current unit
of study.
2. Introduce vocabulary words that will be used by field people during
the tour.
3. Show the photographs or posters of the field trip site or related to
exhibits that will be viewed.
4. Assign student specialist roles in one aspect of the topic That they will
be studying during the field trip.

HOW TO PREPARE
STUDENTS BEFORE THE
FIELD TRIP: -
5. As a classroom brainstorm a set of standards of conduct for the trip and
discuss suggested areas such as spending money, lunch plans,
appropriate clothing to wear for the trip including gear for rainy weather.
6. Discuss with the students how to ask good questions and brainstorm a
list of open ended observations questions to gather information during
the visit. Record questions on chart paper or in student field trip journals.

students to complete drawings based on their observation.

to observe, record key words, ideas and phrases as journal
entries in their field book after viewing each exhibit.)
