The student observed a grade 9 mathematics class where the teacher taught about triangle midline theorems and proportionality theorems. The teacher used traditional teaching materials like the chalkboard, math textbook, and paper-pen exercises. Some students seemed engaged while others found it boring. Overall, the class showed eagerness and understanding, though the teacher experienced difficulties ensuring the chalkboard writing was visible to all students. The student believes the materials were effectively used given student understanding, but would supplement with fact sheets, activity sheets, and clearer illustrations to make the lesson more interactive.
This post is based on my field study that I did conduct for the three quarters of the year 2014. You may seem not to approve some of this idea, but please correct me if I am wrong. Most of the things contain here were based on my own opinion. I am very welcome to some ideas that you may share on this subject matter. Thank you and hope it will be a help for those people in search for the same studies.
Why activity is important in teaching?
It is equally important that each activity is meaningful, and ensures learners’ learning progress and advancement through the didactic unit or input sessions.
Activities should build on previous activities and avoid being repetitive, they should enable learners to engage with and develop their skills, knowledge and understandings in different ways.
Activities help learners to make and sustain the effort of learning. They provide practice in the basic language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. They encourage learners to interact and communicate.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Indian economy is classified into different sectors to simplify the analysis and understanding of economic activities. For Class 10, it's essential to grasp the sectors of the Indian economy, understand their characteristics, and recognize their importance. This guide will provide detailed notes on the Sectors of the Indian Economy Class 10, using specific long-tail keywords to enhance comprehension.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. My Tools
As you observe the class, use the activity form provided for you to document
your observation.
Class Observation Guide
Read the following statements carefully before you observe.
1. What is the lesson about?
2. What visual aids /materials/learning resources is the teacher using?
3. Observe and take note on how the teacher presents/uses the learning resources?
4. Closely observe the learners’ response to the teacher’s use of learning resources.
Listen to their verbal responses. What do their responses indicate? Do their responses
show attentiveness, eagerness and understanding?
5. Focus on their non-verbal responses. Are they leaning forward showing their interest
on the lesson and the materials? Do their actions show attentiveness, eagerness and
understanding?
1. The lesson is about “Triangle Midline Theorem and Other Proportionality
Theorems”.
2. The teacher’s use of visual aids/ materials/ learning resources is a traditional one.
She used board and chalk with the aid of a Math textbook to convey learning. she
evaluates learning through paper-pencil/pen test.
3. Based on my observation, the teacher uses the learning resources through reading
theorems from the textbook and writing it on the board to be more clear to the
learners. then she drew some concrete illustrations in relation to the theorems. She
also gave hands-on exercises like board-works.
4. The learners had varied responses. Some are excited while some says “boring”. This
indicates that some like and dislike the topic. However, overall, the class showed
eagerness thus leading to essential understanding.
5. On the other hand, their non-verbal responses also portrayed various implications.
But, most of the class showed eagerness to the topic.

Brief Description of Teaching Approach Used by the Teacher:
The teaching approach used is direct instruction more specifically, deductive method. It is
the most common way of teaching Mathematics.

4. My Analysis
What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/ learning resources that he/she
used?
For me, I think, what prompted the teacher to choose the materials/ learning
resources that she used is the fact that the materials used are very accessible. Those
materials are already available in the classroom. The teacher need not to sleep late at
night preparing visual aids for her students. Also, these materials are the basic
teaching resources a teacher should have.
What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be managed?
I think, the only difficulty is how the teacher portray or write the words on the
board in order to be visible in all part of the room. I hear some student say, “Ma’am
put it on the right side, I can’t see it here.” The teacher must consider the right angle
in order that what she wrote on the board will be visible to the class.in this manner,
more learning is likely to happen.
Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why?
Over-all, the learning resources/materials used is indeed effective even though
it is the traditional one. The students are able to copy what the teacher had presented.
They are also able to grasp and understand the topic presented. One reason is that
clear illustrations made the hard concept easy. Different examples presented board,
also add to the effectiveness of its use.
5. My Reflections
1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you
do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?
If I were the teacher, I will also use the materials she had used during my
observation.it is because these materials are readily available in every classroom. On
the other hand, I also want to add some ways or things to be used during teaching. In
teaching the same lesson, I will provide fact sheets to the students. In this way, they
will no longer copy what I had presented because I already provided them. Thus they
will be more focused on the discussion. Also, I will provide answer sheets or activity
sheets. Instead of teaching them directly, I want them to explore the topic through doing
the activity in the activity sheet that I had given. This will make the class more
interactive and this approach is the new approach encouraged by DepEd as part of the
K-12 program. And, their topic needed various illustrations. Instead of drawing it on
the board, I will prepare it on a Manila Paper in order that the drawings will be more
accurate and clear to learners.
6. My Portfolio
Include here pictures/illustration of the materials used by the teacher. Put your
comments/annotations about what you observed.
The use of chalk and board, textbooks, paper and pen are the basic are the basic and
most common way of teaching. It requires les preparation and less hassle. It is also very
accessible in the sense that it is already available. However, to engage students to an
interactive state of learning, the teacher should devise different strategies. One thing is the
appropriate use of learning materials.
