3. My Observations
At the time you are in school, what significant observations have you made?
Areas of Focus for Observations
In the School Setting
My Observations
Physical Setting
1. Classroom Arrangement
Classroom arrangement are the usual
arrangement. Chairs/tables are arranged in
two main groups producing an aisle in the
center.
2. Bulletin Board Display
Classrooms lack bulletin board display.
However, there are many bulletin boards
outside the classroom which are intended for
general audiences.
3. School Playground
There’s no well-defined playground in
that school but there is a wide oval and court
for the students to play.
4. Learning Resource Center
One main learning resource center in the
school that I observed is the Library. The
Library is very conducive for studying.
Socio- Psychological Settings
1. Class Routine
The class observes a regular routine
every day. They clean the room and the
surrounding area in the morning followed by
a normal schedule of classes then another
classroom cleaning before leaving the class.
2. Teacher Activities
The teacher gives appropriate learning
activities to her students. Also, she did not
stop in there, in addition, she connects the
students learning to the real-world context.
3. Learners Activities
The learners show enthusiasm in
performing their parts. They actively engage
on what the teacher tells them on what to do.
4. Co-curricular Activities
The teacher enhances the academic
performance of the students supported with
values applicable for daily living.
5. Extra-curricular
Students were engaged and exposed to
different activities in which their main
purpose is to enhance and develop their skills
and foster self-confidence.
4. My Reflections
Based on the teachers program, your observations and interview, would you now see
teaching to be full time job? Why? Why not?
I can say that teaching is really a full time job and it is not easy to become
one.
How do you feel about the teacher’s workplace? Are the conditions, healthy for the
welfare of both the learners and teacher’s?
Although not perfect, the teacher’s workplace is still conducive for learning,
Learners can interact with the discussion; teacher-student relationship and inter-
student relationship is good; and the physical environment allows learning.
Do you find the relationships of the teachers and the learners pleasant? Explain your
answer.
Yes, the relationship of the teachers and the learners is pleasant. The students
respect the teachers. During classes, students participate in the discussion. They also
observes the rules set by the teachers.
5. My Affirmed Concepts
My previous learning in the content courses that were confirmed by this learning
episode is the following:
1. That . . . .
being a teacher requires effort and flexibility to meet the needs of the learners
in a diversified context.
2. That . . . .
being a teacher means maintaining a conducive environment for learners.
This environment is not only the physical one but also the social well-being of
students.
3. That . . . .
as a teacher, I should maintain good relationship towards my learners. In this
manner, transfer of knowledge and skills will become smooth and manageable.
6. My Future Application
How can I improve the school setting that I have observed when I become a teacher?
1. Classroom Arrangement – Certain activities call for specific classroom arrangement.
Therefore, I need to consider every activity that I want in class. Say, for group activity, I
will change the arrangement for fast access of students. For another activity, I will
change the arrangement again in order to suit the activity.
2. Bulletin Board Display – I will put up individual bulletin boards in classrooms so that
students will catch the latest information and updates regarding their class schedules,
special occasions and announcements in class.
3. School playground – Maintaining the cleanliness of the school playground must be
given enough importance to let students feel comfortable whenever they will use this to
enhance their bodily kinesthetic intelligence.
4. Classroom routines – I shall impose class rules and tasks and shall group the students
evenly so that it will be fair. Furthermore, effective instructions should be given to the
students for them to follow.
5. Teacher Activities – For my activity when I become a teacher, I will focus on various
student-centered activities. I will use active experiential learning because I believe that
students learn best when they are engaged in actual task.
6. Co-curricular Activities – I will also allow co-curricular activities in my curriculum
(taught curriculum). These activities will be useful in aiding learnings in discussions.
7. Extra-curricular Activities – These activities are very important. Since students have
multiple intelligence, then others would not excel only in class discussions. Then, there’s
a need for the extra-curricular activities. On my future career, I will encourage students
to engage actively to these activities.
