Each of us has a philosophy of education or a set of fundamental beliefs regarding
how we think schools should be run. What is your philosophy of education? To find out, read
each of the following statement s about the nature of education. Decide whether you agree or

5. My Observations
Visit a teacher in a school and observe what school /classroom activities reflect
his/her philosophy of education while she is teaching. Identify and describe teacher’s action
or behavior and match each with the identified educational philosophy.
1. Observed actions of a teacher who is progressivist:
A progressivist teacher is known to be good in inquiring new knowledge/facts,
methods and techniques that enable students to become more acquainted on the
content of the subject matter. Also, this kind of teacher believes that only change is
constant in this world.
2. Observed actions of a teacher who is behaviorist.
Providing students with interesting motivation can help a man identifies a
teacher who lives with a behaviorism philosophy of education. This teacher
appreciates students’ works and performances and able to give appropriate praises.
Moreover, she manages to encourage them to perform better next time.

6. My Reflections
Based on your concrete experience and the actions of the teacher you have observed.
How important is your philosophy of education to your future career as a teacher? How
would your experiences and observations contribute to your becoming a teacher?
Philosophy of education is very important to me as a future teacher. My philosophy
will shape what kind of environment I will give to my learners. It will shape my teaching
styles. It will also define what kind of learners I will produce.
Every experience counts in shaping me as a teacher. My experiences and
observations will affect my beliefs and views towards teaching. It defines what kind of
teacher I would become.

Teachers’ teaching philosophy determines their styles of teaching, the way
they manage the class, and how they engage with their students.
2. Affirmed Concepts 2
A teacher has her/his own unique teaching philosophy. The belief of teacher A
towards teaching and learning might be different from that of teacher B but they need
to respect their differences.

Every teacher has a teaching philosophy. Tis philosophy shapes his/her way
of imparting knowledge and skills to learners.

8. My Future Application
Using the first hand experiences in this activity, how will I use these when I become a
teacher in the future?
In teaching and learning,
I will consider different learning styles of students. I will put in mind that
every student had his/her own ability and unique skill that needs to be catered during
teaching.
In addressing diversity of learners,
I will always remember that every individual is unique. A class of 40 students
also have 40 varied personalities to consider.
In creating a conducive learning environment,
I will always bear in mind that a conducive environment is not only a well-
ventilated classroom, neat surroundings and comfortable place to learn but also a
place where safety is secured, discrimination is controlled and equality in learning is
served.
