Editor's Notes

  1. Within the Festival Herts magazine there will be a variety of different articles that vary in content. There will be some articles with information from an interview that was carried out with a performer at a recent event, and interviews with people who attended a recent event. Some articles will be reviews on recent music events and festivals. These articles will keep the readers fully informed about how the events went which can help them decide whether or not they attend the event next time it is held. Each copy will also be complete with a double page spread calendar of all known upcoming events with details regarding when, where, and what they are. As well as these articles, images of the events, and interviews will be placed throughout the magazine. Festival Herts magazine will have 2 main purposes. Firstly to inform the readers about upcoming events including details that are necessary for the reader to determine whether they want to attend or not. And the other purpose is promoting. All featured events in the magazine will be promoted but this will be specifically aimed towards events that have had good reviews, events that are less known and any events that the magazine might be asked to specifically promote (this could also lead to revenue as it could lead to paid advertisements).
  2. All of the fonts in the magazine will be sans serif with a modern style to appeal to a young adult and teen audience. The article copy will be written in a basic sans serif font so that it is easy to read and looks simple enough doesn’t distract the reader from the other elements of the page after reading it. This part of the magazine will be in black so that the colour of the font doesn’t clash with the other colours on the page, or become unreadable due to its colour. The masthead will be in the same font as the article headings in order to keep a running house style through out. This font will be bold and sans serif while also being printed in a larger size than the rest of the text, to shows its hierarchy of importance on the page. The masthead will have 4 different colours throughout the 4 seasonal releases throughout the year. In the summer copy, the masthead will be black, in autumn it will be red, winter will be blue and spring will be yellow. This will help the magazines cover fit better with the seasonal aesthetic. The cover lines on the front cover will be in a basic bold font to stand out but not distract from the rest of the elements on the cover. (The bold font)
  3. The festival Herts magazine will face competition from both music magazines and local magazines. Compared to the average price of local Hertfordshire magazines, festival Herts is quite cheap being sold at £1.50 however free magazines such as the ONE Welwyn and Hatfield will create some competition. In terms of content this magazine is unique as there is only one other music festival magazine which is called FestWorld. However the similar content shouldn’t create any issues with sales because Fest world is based around world wide events while Festival Herts is based solely around Hertfordshire.
  4. The genre of this magazine is music as the content will be based around music, specifically the music events and festivals that take place in Hertfordshire. It will have a contemporary and fun style to appeal to the young music loving target audience. It will be a regular a4 magazine with around 15 pages that is available for £1.50 either as a printed copy or virtual copy on the magazines website.

From research I have found that this age range is most likely to attend festivals or plan family outings to music events. Music is not gender specific so this magazine will be aimed at everyone without one specific gender target. Similarly, music can be enjoyed by all ethnicities so festival Herts will not target on specific ethnicity. The range in music genres included in the magazine will also help with keeping a wide spectrum of readers.
  6. The colour scheme will vary depending on what season the copy is released in. This is to help readers distinguish between copies, and it will also help the magazine fit better with the seasons aesthetic. The labelled colour swatches here show the shades and tones that will be included in each season.
  7. Firstly, to create the articles and images for the magazine, a computer will be needed. This is because the writer will need a writing software such as Microsoft word to produce the articles, and the photographer will need an editing software for the post production process of creating the images. A camera and set of accessories such as tripods and lenses will also be needed by the photographer to produce the magazines images. A project management software will also be needed so that the project manager can keep track of the production progress. Finally to help ensure the project runs smoothly with so many people working on different assets, a collaborative working software would be used so that everyone has access to all of the documents they need in order to complete their task. In terms of personnel, a writer and editor will be needed to produce the articles, a photographer will be needed to source the images, an interviewer and researcher will be needed to source content for the articles, and a project manager will be needed to oversee.

Firstly in local independent shops in Hertfordshire – this will help target it at locals, and it will be easier to get into than trying to get into a supermarket which will display higher competition. A printed copy will also be available to purchase on the magazines website, with the option of being deliver to the readers house for a small delivery charge of 99p - this will increase accessibility and increase the amount of readers. Finally, a virtual copy will also be available on the magazines website – this will increase the amount of readers as it will be accessible to more people. To market the magazine, social media accounts will be created on platforms such as Instagram, twitter, and Facebook. Snippets from upcoming magazines will be posted on these accounts as well as headline releases to keep the readers interested in the content. These platforms will also allow the marketing team to interact with the readers in the comments section which will allow for customer feedback and research. The magazine will also be promoted on its website.
