1. Feedback for Proposal- By Alisha Dobinson
Whilst I was watching Esme's proposal video, the first aspect that caught my eye was that
her magazine was going to be based around the rock music genre. I think that this choice of
genre is ideal in order for her to create a successful music magazine due to the fact that she
will be able to have lots of original content within her magazine and can talk about both
mainstream and upcoming artists to appeal to a wider target audience than most music
magazine usually would. The mainstream artists will attract those who are interested in
success stories and want to know more about people who are already famous whereas the
upcoming artists will attract individualists that like to learn unique information. One slight
problem with Esme's chosen target audience is the she said that it's 16-35 year olds whereas
I think that this should be lowered by a couple of years as I believe that 14 tends to be the
age that children are most passionate about music and spend lots of their free time finding
out the latest gossip about their favourite stars. Moreover, I believe that those of 32-35 will
be very busy within their personal lives whether this refers to work or children or family as a
whole, I don't think that they would get a lot of time to sit down and read a magazine. On
the other hand, by altering the target audience and making them of a younger age, the sales
would drop down as 14 and 15 year olds wouldn't have a job yet so would have to rely on
their family members to give them money in order to purchase the newest edition of my
music magazine.
Alongside this, I like the way that Esme has chosen her primary audience as female readers
due to her wanting to focus on makeup and fashion choices of her artists but she is still
including information that male readers would enjoy too which again widens the size of her
target audience.
In regards to her layout and style of her magazine I think she's done a success job and
thought hard about what she's going to include. The layout she has chosen follows the
codes and conventions of real life media products that are successful therefore this will
allow her music magazine to be created in a successful way. Moreover, the colour scheme
that Esme has chosen of red, white and black link well to her chosen genre of rock and allow
her magazine to be clearly linked with the rock music genre.
Another aspect of Esme's proposal video that proves her magazine will work out
successfully is that her she has done lots of research into similar music magazines to hers ad
has taken lots of inspiration from them, especially from Q which will be the magazine that
her product will relate to most.
The last key point that Esme makes it that her colour scheme choices are not only going to
link to her rock genre but have also been chosen so that they contrast and complement one
another in order to make the style of the magazine look good. Moreover, by using black and
white and having one main colour, such as red, the audience will like the magazine more as
it will be visually pleasing.
2. In conclusion, if Esme sticks to all the things she stated within her proposal video I believe
that by the end of this course she will have a very successful music magazine as she has
mentioned all the necessary features that magazines need and has lots of unique ideas that
will make her magazine more informative and fun than those that are already around.
