2. Q Content Page
The masthead is located at the top left of the page, it reads ‘Q
Contents’ which is the name of the magazine along with the name of
this specific page. The white Q and the black stand out from the
vibrant red rectangle background. Also, the three colours
compliment one another well and are eye-catching making this the
first thing the reader notices when they turn to this page.
The main artist image is a full body shot
of Cheryl Cole standing with her legs
pointing inwards and her arms bent
above her head. Her facial expression
is blank and she is looking down at the
floor. She is wearing a black dress with
studs on it along with matching heels
and ripped tights. Her heavy makeup
and outfit represent the rock music
genre as they are both very dark and
make her look serious. Additionally, her
blank expression implies that the article
featured in this issue about her will
inform the reader on the more serious
topic of her life rather than the fun and
happy aspects of it.
Both images and text are used for the sell lines of this content
page which makes the pages overall look nicer and makes it
less boring for the reader. All the images are a reasonable
size, the more important ones are bigger and located in the
centre of the page. Moreover, all the images have a large
black or white number on them to allow the reader to find the
article that links with that image. The written sell lines are
very simple with the subheading from each article being a
little bolder than the information and the red line separating
the two. The different summaries of the pages have been left
at a reasonably short length in order for the reader to not
gain too much information from it so they have to physically
read every article.
The colour scheme of this page is mainly: red, white and black.
These three colours are very simple yet effective. The vibrant red
shade adds splashes of colour around the page and allows the
white and black to stand out more. Additionally, the black and white
numbers/boxes that correspond with a specific image are very eye-
catching. The rock music genre is usually associated with the
colours red and black as they are bold but dark. I believe the main
image being in black and white is a nice contrast from the rest of
the images as it makes it bolder and allows the reader to see that
Cheryl Cole is the main artist of this issue. Moreover, the red and
white is a constant colour scheme throughout different issues of Q
as the masthead on every copy is a red square with a white Q.
For this content page I believe it is clear on the genre of music
due to the outfits of the artists, the colour scheme and the images
included. Red and black are the two main colours associated with
rock. Moreover, the dark clothes, heavy makeup and the blank
facial expressions featured in the images emphasise the rock
genre as these are typical things you find to do with rock.
The subheading to the sell lines
placed down the right hand side of the
page is ‘Regulars’ which implies that
these 9 articles are featured in every
single issue of Q no matter which artist
it’s based on. This means that Q
magazine is aimed at a specific
audience of people as some of them
would buy the magazine each week
due to enjoying the regular articles that
are included. I believe this is a good
feature to include in a magazine as it
means that you get the same type of
people buying it every time it comes
out even if they don’t like the music
artist as they will buy it for these
articles that are regular to it each
week.
3. Kerrang! Content Page
The masthead is located at the top left of
the page, it reads ‘Kerrang! Contents’ which
is the name of the magazine along with the
name of this specific page. The white and
yellow text stand out well from the sky blue
rectangle background. Moreover, the three
colours go well together and are eye-
catching making this one of the first things
the reader sees when they turn to this page.
The main image of the artist is of a girl who
is the lead singer from ‘We are the in
Crowd’ which is not a well known band
which highlights that this magazine is only
for people that enjoy this genre of music.
The image is colourful and the girl is smiling
which implies this magazine takes things
less seriously than Vibe and it’s aimed at a
younger audience as it discusses the fun
aspects of being a music artist.
At the bottom right hand side of the page
there is a small box with a paragraph of text
on it which has been written by the
magazines editor, James. I believe this
makes this page seem more friendly to the
reader as it adds a personal touch from the
editor.
The colour scheme of this page is mainly:
blue, black, white and yellow. The colours
both contrast and compliment one another
and make the text stand out well. The colours
blue and yellow make me feel happy as they
represent the sun and sky which reminds me
of Summer. The colours black and white make
the page more sophisticated and make it clear
for the reader in order to read the information
provided.
One problem with this content page is that
the genre of music is unclear. The colour
scheme makes me think that it’s for the
genre of pop and aimed at children as blue
and yellow are very bright. However, the red
circles with black stars on them and the sub
images make me think this magazine is
about the rock genre. Also, Kerrang!
Usually features rock artists.

All the numbers and summaries of the
different pages are in one short list which is
so simple yet effective as it makes the job so
much easier for the reader. Moreover, the
sub images with page numbers next to them
show previews of other articles featured in
the magazine which allows the reader to be
aware of what is coming up.
The black and yellow subheadings featured
in the sell lines down the right hand side of
the page helps to break the articles up into
different sections making it quicker and
easier for the reader to find the article they
prefer to read. Each article comes under a
specific heading or category.
At the bottom right corner of the page there
is a subscription box filled with information
for the readers of how they can become a
subscriber to this magazine. This
encourages them to purchase this in order to
get an issue of the magazine every time it
comes out so they can read about some of
their favourite music artists.
4. Vibe Content Page
The page has a greyscale colour theme
apart from the red heart that is being held
by this mysterious arm coming from behind
Kanye’s back. Seeing as the heart is the
only colour on the page, our eyes are
automatically drawn to it. A heart connotes
love so the issue may contain information
about Kanye’s love life and family.
The only image on the page is one of
rapper Kanye West with a strange arm
coming from behind him holding a heart.
The image is very big meaning it is eye-
catching. Kanye’s blank facial expression
implies that the magazine is going to
address some serious things to do with his
life.
The way the word ‘contents’ is written is
unique as in a magazine it would normally
be located at the top of the page. This
emphasises the originality of this magazine
and how it will be good to read due to the
individuality of it. Also, this stands out well
from the background making it obvious to
the reader what page it is.
The massive image of Kanye West is
effective as he is a very famous music artist
therefore people will usually recognise him
and will be interested in reading the article.
Anyone who is a fan of Kanye West will also
be interested in reading the magazine as they
would want to know the latest information
about him.
The massive ‘V’ in the background
highlights that this page is from an issue of
Vide magazine. Even though the V is half
hidden by the image you can still tell what
letter it is and link it to the masthead of the
magazine. Also, the V adds some colour to
the background, even if it’s just grey, which
makes it look less plain.
All the numbers and summaries of the
different pages are in one short list which is
so simple yet effective as it makes the job so
much easier for the reader. Additionally, the
page doesn’t have lots of information about
the pages in this issue which makes it have
more of a mysterious feel making the reader
want to know what’s inside.
The clothing Kanye is wearing are
fashionable in the modern world which
leads me to believe that this magazine is
very modern and is based on any popular
artist that is big in the charts. Also, this
implies that Vibe isn’t just about music but
it’s about other things like fashion, culture
and love.
The subheadings ‘Features’ and ‘Fashion’
emphasise what will be included in the
magazine. ‘Features’ is a very wide heading
meaning that anything other than fashion
will be found under it. ‘Fashion’ explains
why the image of Kanye is a mid-shot
showing his clothes. Also, this means some
of the fashion choices of music artists will
be included in this issue.
One problem with this content page is that
the genre of music is unclear. The
greyscale colour scheme makes me think of
old fashioned things whereas Kanye West
is a modern day rapper. Moreover, Kanye is
a rapper in smart clothes which makes me
confused as to whether it’s more about his
fashion choices or the genre of music he
produces.
