Mid Shots
The main type of camera shot I am going to be using within my photo shoot is a mid
shot because I believe they are simple yet effective to grasp the emotion of the model.
Moreover, this type of shot is ideal for my genre of music which is rock due to the fact
the audience will be drawn to the main points I want them to focus on which are the
makeup, outfit and facial expression of the artists. The image of the blonde girl below
is the type of shot I would like to take due to her dark clothing and blank facial
expression. Additionally, I believe that the model looking straight at the camera is very
Important so that the audience feel more connected with them.
Close Up
I believe that close up shots (examples below) will fit in well around double page
spread articles to ensure the text is broken up and the audience don’t get bored when
reading. Moreover, this type of camera shot is useful to entice my target audience as
the photos are so intense, especially when the model looks straight at the camera, to
the point that the audience focus on the photo in lots of detail. In addition, close up
shots allow me to portray my main artist in a clear light in respect to my chosen genre
of music due to the main focus on the face so the harsh makeup of her will be seen
clearly. I like the last image out of the five due to the clever use of lighting and the way
her intense makeup is the main focus.
Full Body Shots
Seeing as my primary audience for my magazine is
females, I would like to include some full body shots
of my main artist to show of her outfit and allow the
audience to be able to analyse her fashion choices.
Moreover, this type of camera shot will allow the
audience to see everything about the model
including body language, facial expression, outfit
choices and makeup all at the same time so they can
clearly see the link between all this things to the
genre of music my magazine is based on. With full
body shots, I like it when the model isn’t looking
directly at the camera as it breaks slightly away
from codes and conventions of real media product
but it also adds an element of mystery to the artist.
Using a Prop
Within my magazine I would like to use a wide range of different camera shots.
Moreover, to make some of the basic shots more exciting I’m going to include a prop.
Whether this means getting the artist to sat down or, as my magazine is a music
magazine, getting my artist to use a prop such as a guitar or microphone. I think that
the use of a prop would allow my photos to be more interesting for my target
demographic even if the same shot is used in the previous photo due to the fact that a
prop could add colour or more levels to them. As my chosen genre of music is rock,
I’m going to use props like an electric guitar and microphone but I will also use things
like hats and black headphones or glasses to add more mystery to my models.
