Baker studied architecture in Birmingham and graduated in 1937, aged 20, in a period of political unrest for Europe.During the Second World War, he served in the Friends Ambulance Unit in China and Burma. He worked as an architect for an international and interdenominational Mission dedicated to the care of those suffering from leprosy. He focused on converting or replacing asylums once used to house the ostracized sufferers of the disease - "lepers".He Used indigenous architecture and methods of these places as means to deal with his once daunting problems.

Join us at DESIGN-BUILD WORKSHOPS IN GHANA: Building With Local EarthBathosa Nkurumeh
Nka Foundation, NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for design-build workshops for learning-by-doing on sustainable architecture at the Abetenim in Ghana. Contact: info@nkafoundation.org / www.nkafoundation.org for application form.
DATES: We run Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring Workshops
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Everybody is welcome: students and recent graduates of architecture, design and volunteers from around the world. Students can use the opportunity for internship/stage or thesis.
PROJECT SITE: Abetenim Arts Village, which is a developing demonstration site and training center, located 40 km Southeast of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
ACCOMMODATION: Guesthouses at our Arts village, or homestay for cultural immersion
Our program promises high-impact learning practice, ideal for motivated college students and recent graduates seeking real-world learning opportunities to explore and generate design solutions in a location outside of Western culture. It provides you with an opportunity to immerse in the local Ashanti culture and collaborate in a design-build process that involves fieldtrip to local sites, discussions, and learning-by-doing on a building project. You will work side-by-side with local artisans and creative colleagues to generate an alternative using sustainable natural materials while furthering your knowledge of the intersections between architecture and rural development. Experience how a design problem, budget and site-specific dynamics such as materials, indigenous technologies and community can provoke resourceful thinking and hybridization. In the process, the student will learn to design what is buildable to make a well rounded graduate.

Burj Khalifa, known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the tallest artificial structure in the world, standing at 829.8 m.
The Kolumba (previously "Diocesan Museum") is an art museum in Cologne, Germany.
The site was originally occupied by the romanesque Church of St. Columba, which was destroyed in World War II and replaced in 1950 by a Gottfried Böhm chapel nicknamed the "Madonna of the Ruins".
The new structure Zumthor built for the museum now shares its site with Gothic church and the 1950s chapel, wrapping a perforated grey brick façade.
Construction of the Kolumba began in 2003 and was completed in 2007.
The 21 1/4 inches long and 19/16 inches high bricks were handmade in the
region, a process which took over two years to complete.

Charles Correa practiced architecture from Mumbai. He was never formally associated with CEPT nor did he teach there. Over the years, three or four evening lectures are all he delivered at our university. Regardless of this, his presence at CEPT was towering and inspirational.
The new CEPT Identity was introduced on 17th October 2014, at Piraji Sagara Basement, CEPT University. Ram Sinam (Wari Watai, Bangalore) was selected to design the new CEPT Identity. This video animation explains the design concept, the links and connections behind the process; carried out by the Wari Watai design team.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
