Purpose and UseTo provide a tool for rolling out new ESD initiatives with fidelity, and for evaluating our current initiatives, using our identified “Criteria for Success”
Criteria for Success Template  – A Work in Progress Top six criteria chosen by staff: Clearly Defined Goals/Outcomes Collaboration Sustainability Research-based training and resources Data collection to provide evidence of success Administrative Support
Criteria for Success Template  – A Work in Progress Clearly Defined Goals/Outcomes Specify SMART goals for initiative Collaboration Specify how stakeholders are involved in components of the initiative Sustainability Plan how this initiative will be sustained over time

UNIQUE LEARNING SYSTEM Unique Learning System is a standards-based curriculum specifically designed for special learners. The Outcomes are:   Students are participating in a systematic and progressive learning process.    Teachers can more readily focus on a student's individual learning needs.
Michigan Mathematics Program Improvement (MMPI) Project Formerly State Improvement Grant to addressAdequate Yearly Progress (SIG-AYP) Developed by Chuck Allan and Wayne Scott Selected in response to local districts request for math support Recommended by The Michigan Math Science Centers Network 16
What is MMPI? Resources to use with existing curriculum Diagnostic Inventories and differentiated instructional activities for math Targets  students that are borderline proficient on the MEAP 17
Structure of MMPI in the AMAESD School teams attended a 5-day training of trainers  in August ( all schools participated). ESD staff also attended the training and are available to assist with training sessions in local schools.
Getting Explicit About Reading (GEAR) Purpose:  Strengthen schools’ current Response to Intervention framework Provide training, resources, and support in diagnostic reading assessment and explicit comprehension instruction K-8 Expected Outcomes: Common language in regards to diagnostic reading assessments and comprehension instruction Consistency in instruction, intervention, and data
Getting Explicit About Reading (GEAR) Structure of Initiative: Monthly Meetings for 2010-2011 Title 1 & Special Education Teachers: Alpena, Alcona, Hillman, Bingham Training Focus:  Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA) K-3 & 4-8 Comprehension Strategy Instruction Literacy Consultants act as coaches for individual schools
Curriculum Initiative Purpose  To scope and sequence new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) K-12   To develop Learning Targets in student friendly language  To align CCSS with current GLCEs and HSCEs
Curriculum Initiative Development Districts commit to sending teacher representatives in grade spans  ESD Consultants facilitate teachers through process with uniform templates AMA ESD creates curriculum documents for 2011/2012 school year AMA ESD provides training on how to use the documents created
Reading Literature 5th grade
Initiative:  Community Forums Identified Needs: Invite stakeholders from the community to participate in discussion regarding how to celebrate student achievement through existing initiatives  Promote supporting student achievement through community partnerships
Accountability Methods Measured by:  Pre and post assessments at the beginning and ending of community forums using the Classroom Performance System Anecdotal comments from community partnership members at the end of each forum Community Involvement form to indicate how organizations could participate in the presented initiatives

  • 9. Purpose and UseTo provide a tool for rolling out new ESD initiatives with fidelity, and for evaluating our current initiatives, using our identified “Criteria for Success”
  • 10. Criteria for Success Template – A Work in Progress Top six criteria chosen by staff: Clearly Defined Goals/Outcomes Collaboration Sustainability Research-based training and resources Data collection to provide evidence of success Administrative Support

  • 15. UNIQUE LEARNING SYSTEM Unique Learning System is a standards-based curriculum specifically designed for special learners. The Outcomes are: Students are participating in a systematic and progressive learning process. Teachers can more readily focus on a student's individual learning needs.

Michigan Mathematics Program Improvement (MMPI) Project Formerly State Improvement Grant to addressAdequate Yearly Progress (SIG-AYP) Developed by Chuck Allan and Wayne Scott Selected in response to local districts request for math support Recommended by The Michigan Math Science Centers Network 16
  • 17. What is MMPI? Resources to use with existing curriculum Diagnostic Inventories and differentiated instructional activities for math Targets students that are borderline proficient on the MEAP 17
  • 18. Structure of MMPI in the AMAESD School teams attended a 5-day training of trainers in August ( all schools participated). ESD staff also attended the training and are available to assist with training sessions in local schools.

Getting Explicit About Reading (GEAR) Purpose: Strengthen schools’ current Response to Intervention framework Provide training, resources, and support in diagnostic reading assessment and explicit comprehension instruction K-8 Expected Outcomes: Common language in regards to diagnostic reading assessments and comprehension instruction Consistency in instruction, intervention, and data

Getting Explicit About Reading (GEAR) Structure of Initiative: Monthly Meetings for 2010-2011 Title 1 & Special Education Teachers: Alpena, Alcona, Hillman, Bingham Training Focus: Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA) K-3 & 4-8 Comprehension Strategy Instruction Literacy Consultants act as coaches for individual schools
  • 21. Curriculum Initiative Purpose To scope and sequence new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) K-12 To develop Learning Targets in student friendly language To align CCSS with current GLCEs and HSCEs

Curriculum Initiative Development Districts commit to sending teacher representatives in grade spans ESD Consultants facilitate teachers through process with uniform templates AMA ESD creates curriculum documents for 2011/2012 school year AMA ESD provides training on how to use the documents created
  • 24. Initiative: Community Forums Identified Needs: Invite stakeholders from the community to participate in discussion regarding how to celebrate student achievement through existing initiatives Promote supporting student achievement through community partnerships

Accountability Methods Measured by: Pre and post assessments at the beginning and ending of community forums using the Classroom Performance System Anecdotal comments from community partnership members at the end of each forum Community Involvement form to indicate how organizations could participate in the presented initiatives
