Week 2: Professional Expectations and Evaluation
In this activity you will investigate and summarize the connections between professional expectations of teachers, teacher
evaluations, and the law.
For your investigation:
Choose a current local, state, or national model for teacher evaluation and/or the assessment of teacher effectiveness.
Read the policies and resources connected with the model.
Respond to the following items of interest:
• What are the basic inclusions in the model regarding ethical and legal responsibilities for teachers?
The teacher promotes student learning using curricula and standards, effective strategies, resources, and
data to address the differentiated needs of all students
Teachers demonstrate leadership &/or cooperation with Principle & coworkers within their schools
Teachers advocate for schools, students, families and surrounding communities
Teachers demonstrate high ethical standards at all times
Teachers communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, district and school personnel
Teacher exhibits a commitment to professional ethics and the school’s mission
Teacher provides a well-managed, safe, and orderly environment that is conducive to learning and
encourages respect for all
• What rubrics or ratings are provided for the assessments within the model?

• What opportunities exist for growth within this model?
Teacher’s growth measure will be based on Georgia’s Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES), a tool
for teachers, because it gives credit for meeting important Professional Development goals that are
geared towards helping students in the classroom.
Teachers shall receive an overall rating of Exemplary, Proficient, Needs Development, or Ineffective on
the Teacher Effectiveness Measure (TEM)

• What are the ramifications for not meeting the standards? Do these evolve or change year by year, according to
the model?
I could not find anything that specified what the ramifications would be if the standards were not met, but
from what I gathered, there could be extra training, but if the extra training also didn’t work, the Teacher’s
certification could be revoked
• What professional development would be appropriate for utilizing this model with teachers?
For each Standard, there are online Quick Guide and mini-lessons
Present your findings in a multimedia format located on the College of Education Resources>Technology Resource
Library. You can use another creative tool of your choosing, including detailed graphic organizers, presentation boards,
etc. Check with your instructor for format questions.
Prepare to share your specific findings with the class.
Format your work according to APA standards.
