Factual evaluation

RESEARCH
The strength of my research I think was looking at all the aspects that made up the product I chose to look at. I covered the
style of the videos, the context, the techniques used and the content. By doing this it gave me a better understanding of what
I needed to use to make my factual project as high a quality as the videos I have researched. It also helped me come up with
the content in my video as it had to be 3 minutes long, looking at these videos helped me realize my original idea of doing
film vs Television series would have been to big of a topic to cover in the amount of time I had. Most of the videos I watched
and analyzed was mostly analyzing films or was about films so that helped me come up with the idea of doing an analytic
video. To improve my research I think I could of looked at other existing products that were different to the ones I had looked
at, doing this would of helped me find the differences between the videos and helped me decide which style and techniques I
would of preferred to use in my own project.

PLANNING
I think the strength of my planning was creating my script which told me what to say in my video and it planned out
how the video would be presented. Whenever I’m supposed to say something, the script gives indication of what will be
shown in my video as I am speaking. Doing this really helped me when it came to production, I did change somethings
from the scrip when it came to putting the footage in because I thought it would look better, but it gave me an
underlining of what needed to go where in what order and it made the whole production feel a lot more organized.
Another part of my planning that helped when it came to production was my style sheet I produced, this just helped me
visualize what my video would look like and what I planned to make. After I finished making the video I looked back at
the style sheet and in the end it was quite similar to what I originally planned. Something I could improve on in
planning or add would be a storyboard. I thought with my script made and it telling me what footage goes where
would be enough, but I think making a storyboard would of made production slightly more easier for me, as then I
could visually see what needed to go where and how long the time of the footage would run on for before moving to
the next part.

TIME MANAGEMENT
• I think I managed my time well making this project, I managed to make everything on time
including all my planning and research. I think if I had an extra week for production I could of
tidied my video up a bit, I was happy with how it turned out in the end but I felt like I could of
improved it a lot more by changing some transitions between scenes and I think fixing some of
the background music as well. If I had extra time I would of also gone onto adobe audition and
fixed my voice over, I felt like in some parts of my video my voice is too faint to here so I would
of amped it up on audition. However, I didn't have time to do that so I tried to amp it up on
premiere which made it a bit better but I felt like doing it on audition would have been better.
Overall, I think my time was managed well I managed to get everything done, my video did run
a bit over 3 minutes and I did cut some parts out of it to shorten it down but I couldn’t cut
anymore so I had to leave it with a run time of 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Apart from a few
improvements made with a bit more time, I managed to finish everything and I’m happy with
how it turned out.

TECHNICAL QUALITIES
In Screen Rants movie mistake video, they had a
presenter visually visible to the audience and he was
the one presenting the video all the way through. It
mostly kept switching to them showing footage of the
from a film while he talked over it so he isn’t shown for
very long, he appears every now and then in the video.
The way he presented was very engaging he used a lot
of had actions and his voice was clear and enthusiastic
all the way through, the lighting and everything is
bright as well so it’s clear to see him. Doing this
engages the audience more and makes the video fun
to watch.
In my video I attempted to do a similar thing as to what Screen
Rant did in theirs, I did find it very difficult because I was
struggling to remember the words and I didn't want to be seen
on camera reading a script. I did keep my mask on because I had
already recorded my voice over for it so when I edited it I could
dub it over my video of me speaking, and keeping my mask on
helped make it less obvious it was dubbed so the audience can’t
see my mouth moving. I also think I could of made it a bit
brighter in the studio by putting one of the studio lights on, now
looking at the comparison between me and Screen rants mine
looks a lot darker. I did only film myself opening up the video and
closing it, and I was originally going to get someone better to
present but they were unavailable but I thought adding in some
raw footage for my video would be better than just editing some

TECHNICAL QUALITIES
In WatchCultures’10 most re-watchable movies of
the 21st century video’ throughout the video they
use title cards to show the name of the film they
will be talking about next. This helps the audience
know that they have switched onto a different topic
and it also helps break the video up in parts. I also
like how the image behind it blurs out so the main
focus is on the title. I thought this was quite a good
effect to do and I thought it would look good in my
video, so I applied it to mine.
In my video I did the same as what the
WhatCulture video did, I broke mine up into four
parts; the foot chase scene, soundtrack,
similarities and the conclusion. Every time I moved
onto a different topic I included a title card, I did it
so first you see the image and then as the title
appears the image behind blurs out so the focus
is on the title. I did copy this from the
WhatCulture video because I thought it was a
good way to break up my video and make it look
more visually interesting.

TECHNICAL QUALITIES
From my research the main videos I based my own project
off is Filmento’s. All their videos analyze films, most of the
time it’s about them being a failure but he also does videos
that show the audience how they achieve certain aspects in
film, such as ‘The Winter Soldier – How to make the
audience Dread’. Because I was also doing an analysis video
, this was the YouTube channel I looked at the most. It
showed me how to present an analysis video, such as the
main points to talk about and how to edit and visually
present it to the audience. I did take some ideas from the
other videos I researched as well but I mainly took
inspiration from Filmento.
In my video I tried to make it similar to Filmento, I broke it up
into different topics and went in depth as best as I could
explaining each point with the limited time my video had to
run for. It definitely wasn’t as good as Filmento’s videos, I
think it could use some improvements but I think it did turn
out well with the time that I had, if I had more time on it and
cleaned up the script up a little it would be close to being
similar quality as Filmento’s videos. Without Filmento I don’t
think my video would be as good as it is, watching his videos
really helped me to structure my own, it was a heavy
influence on my project.

AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think my work looks good, my main focus of
the video was on Baby Driver and one
particular scene but in my video just to
change it up and to not keep re using footage
I included clips from other films as well such
as Wonder Woman, Captain America Civil War
and Hot Fuzz. Doing this I think helped with
the whole look of my video, when those
scenes came on I put the title of the movie
and release date in the corner and by doing
that I thought it looked more professional.
Overall, I wanted my audience to take the
video seriously and I think the whole look and
feel to the video is an important attribute
towards that.
I think my work was creative, originally I was
going to make it so it just had a voice over on
only the footage from the film but I decided to
film some raw footage of me actually
presenting it. The way I tried to edit the clips
together I wanted it to be a smooth transition
so a lot of the time I didn't put any transition
effects on it, I tried to find certain clips in the
scene that would fit well together as a
continuous shot. The script I made for it as
well, I came up with my own analysis of the film
so I didn't copy of anyone and I don’t think
anyone's covered the chase scene in Baby
My favorite part of the video was when I was
talking about the soundtrack and it showed
the character leaping across tables, I made a
rewind effect for it, so I copied the original
clip, reversed it as well as the audio and
played the original clip again. I also added a
adjustment layer and some noise and I played
around with the width and it made it look like
a VHS tape rewinder. My other favorite part
of the video was when I added clips from
other films, I just thought it was a nice change
from the same scene and it worked to show a
comparison between the films as well.
To improve my video I would of used Adobe
audition for my audio. In premiere I couldn't
increase the volume of my audio mainly for my
voice over so I had to really decrease the
volume on the music playing in the
background for the audience to hear I more
clearly. I think if I had more time I would take
my audio to audition and increase the voice
level on it just so it’s clearer to hear. I would
also change some of my transitions between
some of the clips because on some I think it
would flow better without it, and I just don’t

AUDIENCE APPEAL
From my questionnaire I conducted, I
found out that my audience’s favorite
scene in Baby Driver was the foot chase.
Because of this I based my whole video
on the foot chase scene and because
they said that was their favorite scene I
think they would find it quite
interesting to watch, especially learning
new things about it if the didn't know
before such as the music fitting
perfectly in time with every move the
character makes.
I think my audience will like the part in my
video where it includes scenes from different
films, the films I had chosen to include in my
video are very mainstream, so they’re easily
recognizable and popular among the
audience so I think they would enjoy watching
those scenes in my video as well. I tried to
make my video as entertaining to watch for
the audience, in my dialogue I did include
some puns which was unintentional, such as
when the scene changed to the character
running I sad “A constant running theme” as
part of the voice over and I didn’t realize until
after I finished editing that I did that, but it
could be entertaing for the audience. When I
was talking about the dialogue in the film, I
included a clip that I thought was quite
comedic for the dialogue in the film. I tried to
make it entertaining to watch as well making
it analytic as well.
I had also found out from my questionnaire
that quite a few of my audience watch
videos on YouTube that analyze movies,
however they did say it depended on the
movie they were analyzing. Which is also
why in my questionnaire I asked if they had
seen Baby Driver which the majority
responded with yes they had. Because they
have seen Baby Driver and watch movie
analysis videos I thought that my video
would appeal to them.
Overall, I think my audience would enjoy my video. I looked at
what they had answered in my questionnaire and I applied what
they had said to my video. I tried to make it as entertaining and
interesting as I could, so I have the audience full attention
throughout the whole of the video. I also tried to think what I
would of liked to see in it, because I watch quite a lot of similar
videos to the one I just made throughout making I thought what
would interest me as well as the audience and what I would of
wanted to see in it. Going off that it helped me get a better
understanding of what I needed to do to make the video

OVERVIEW
- Overall I am happy as to how my video has turned out, I managed my time well making sure I had everything
done by the deadline given, sometimes I finished some of my work early allowing me extra time on working
towards producing my project early. All my research I produced, including the experiments I made had
contributed a lot to allowing me to complete my video in good quality. The experiments have helped me plan
how I would edit my video together, giving me practice with different effects I could use when it came to
producing my main project, and the research helped me decide what type of video I wanted to make, as well
as what material I needed to include in it and how it would be presented.
- I do think my video could use some improvements, if I had more time I would go back and tidy up some of the
footage I had edited, I think in some places where I had put transitions between some of the clips it didn't
need to be there. I also think the audio, where I am talking, needs to be a bit louder I added background music
to it just so it wasn’t just me speaking throughout the entire thing which could be a bit boring but I thought in
some parts it was hard to hear what I was saying so if I had more time I would go back and fix the audio.
- Doing this project has helped me improve on many skills such as editing, analyzing , audio and filming. When it
came to filming I had to refresh my memory on how to setup the camera and the rest of the equipment,
because of lockdown it’s been difficult trying to practice setting up filming equipment so I hadn’t done it in a
while. But now because of this project it has allowed me to practice filming which will help me when it comes
to filming my FMP. It has also helped me get use to using premiere again, experimenting with different effects
and audio which will also contribute towards my FMP. Making my Factual project with premiere has made me
more comfortable and confident in my ability in editing, which will be a crucial aspect as well as filming when it
comes to making my FMP and any future projects.
- There is some things I would change to make it better, but overall I think my video came out well. I think my
audience will like it, I added certain things in my video that would benefit them such as some clips from other
movies, the topic I chose to base my video on I did based off what my audience said their favorite scene was
from Baby Driver and I think they would find it interesting to watch.

thought when you were on camera you had a microphone near you.

- I think if you included some more analysis in your video and made it a bit longer,
that’s the only thing I can really think of.

- What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
- I’m glad that they liked and enjoyed watching my video, I do agree that I could of done a bit
more analysis in my video, I think I could of cut some of the topics I was talking about a bit
shorter so I could fit in some other subjects. My favorite part was also the comparison
between the two movies so it’s good that they like that, I would of added more footage like
that if I was allowed to make my video a bit longer but I couldn’t and I had to focus on other
topics in the scene rather than just comparisons.
- What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
- I disagree with some of them saying I need to make my video longer, the limit to how long the
project had to be was 3 minutes and I already went over that by 20 seconds. I think if I made it
any longer it wouldn’t be as good a quality as the first few minutes of my video, and I think I
included everything I could talk about in those 3 minutes, I could of gone a bit more in depth
and I did have to cut some of the dialogue out of it because if I didn't the video would of
reached past 4 minutes. So that just wasn’t doable.

P E E R F E E D B A C K S U M M A R Y
If my video could be more than 3 minutes I would make it longer, including a more in depth
analysis about the topics I discussed in my video. I am glad they enjoyed the video, and by
saying they want it to be longer shows that they wanted to see more of it. It’s also good to
hear that they thought my audio was good, to me the audio is the thing that could be
improved I just didn’t think it was clear enough. One of my peers said they didn’t think
anything needed improving, which I don’t think is true, I don’t think anything I produce will
be perfect I can try to make it as good as I can to the best of my ability, but there will always
be improvements to be made. The feedback I have received shows that I have met the
audiences approval, all of them said they enjoyed the video and there wasn’t anything they
didn’t like about it, one of them said they didn’t know how much effort it took to make the
chase scene and that they found it interesting. The point of my video was to teach the
audience and point out things they might not of known in the film, as well as providing an
argument to explain why Baby Driver is my favorite film, based of my feedback I have
achieved that and taught them things they might not of known.
