The document provides an evaluation of a student's music video project. It discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the student's research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback. The student conducted thorough research on grime music videos but could have broadened their research to other genres. Their planning was detailed but actors needed more preparation time. They managed time well but filming felt rushed. Peer feedback noted room for improving shot composition and including more actors. [END SUMMARY]

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

3. RESEARCH
• What were the strengths of your research? How did your research help your product?
• What were the weaknesses of your research? What could you have done
better/improve? What effect would this have had on your product?
• The strengths of my research were that it helped me to look at grime music videos
to get inspiration from and to see which song I wanted to do. It also helped me by
researching the origins of grime music, this helped me find out where grime first
started and how it has grown in popularity over the last 10 - 15 years. Grime
originated in London and other areas with low economic backgrounds with a
widespread of youth popularity. This research helped me find specific locations to
film my video by looking at different surroundings in other music videos and to look
for areas looking deprived. My research also helped me analyse how music videos
were edited depending on their genre, for this music video I mainly researched
“grime / UK rap” music videos but I also looked at drill which is a sub genre to
grime. My research helped my product tremendously because I was able to get good
ideas about all of the key elements in a music video that I wanted to create in mine
such as unusually attractive camera angles, colour grading, the length of my shots
used, lighting techniques & also my choice of costumes for my actors. From my
research I discovered that grime and the music videos that artists produce are
usually built around lyrical battles and I wanted to use this technique in my video.
• The weaknesses of my research was that most of the songs I was able to look at and
get good ideas from didn’t reach the 3 minute mark, my music video had to reach
this mark. This made it tricky to pick my song for the video. Another weakness in my
research was that I only focused on one genre (grime) – if I broadened my research
to look at other genres rather than just be focused on the original. I could have
gathered a lot more information about the use of visual effects and camera
techniques if I had done this earlier.
4. PLANNING
• What were the strengths of your planning? How did your planning help your
product?
• What were the weaknesses of your planning? What could you have done
better/improve? What effect would this have had on your product?
• The strengths of my planning were that I felt I was very thorough, I had to plan
the locations that I was wanting to film in, I had to make sure I found places
where its quiet to film and to avoid public areas. I had to plan which equipment
I was going to take with me when I was wanting to film, I needed to make sure
I had charged multiple batteries most importantly. I had to organise which
actors I would use and what they would wear when being recorded. All of these
little things I needed to plan really did help the way my product came out, if I
didn’t do any of this it would have never have been as good as I was hoping
for. Another strength of my planning was my list of camera shots and my
storyboard, these two planning tools helped me the most when filming
because I was able to look back and see what I had planned to record and the
order I needed it to be done in. the story board assisted me with both filming
and editing.
• The weaknesses of my planning were that I felt like I did not give my actors
enough time to prepare for what I really wanted them to do, they did a great
job being in front of the camera but I felt I could have given them more time to
rehearse before the final shoots. Another weakness for my product is that I did
not create a backup plan in case something goes wrong when filming such as
replacing actors if one does not turn up to film, I didn’t look at the weather
schedule so I wouldn’t have known if it was going to rain or not, if I knew it
was going to rain on that day I would have organised to film either earlier or
another day.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
• Did you manage your time well? Did you complete your project on time or would
your products have improved with additional time?
• What would you have done if you had more time to produce your work?
• I did manage my time well, I was one of a few who managed to get the music
video finished two weeks before the official deadline, I started and finished early
because I was confident I could make it look good even if it was a quick shoot, I
also managed to finish early so I had more time to work on my evaluation and
not to let it drag on for another two weeks with other tasks piling on top of it.
However on reflection, I do think I could have spent a little longer on my filming,
my filming was done in just two days and I didn’t think it really reached the level
of professionalism as I wanted it to, it might have felt slightly rushed. I wish I
had given my actors more time to rehearse before being filmed, the reason I did
not spend too long filming was because of availability in both mine and the
actors schedules. If I had given them more time to prepare this would have given
them more confidence in the filming process and I would have been able to get
my shots done first time rather than say it wasn’t good enough and had to do it
again. for my editing I overestimated how much time I would have needed, I gave
myself the full week during half term to edit my video but it ended up only
taking me three days to complete, I enjoyed editing this video as I normally enjoy
editing so I am glad I finished early and I think my well structured plan on how I
wanted my video to look helped me tremendously to manage my time during the
editing process.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
CAMERA• Compare your work to similar existing products and discuss
the similarities and differences
• Put your final piece(s) in the centre of a page alongside an
existing product
• Use text boxes and arrows
• the similarities in my camera qualities are the tracking effect I used to keep my actors face in the
centre of my screen
• Close up shots
• Similar outfits in shot (tracksuits)
• Same amount of actors in these camera shots
• The differences in these two products are the hand gestures
• Different location, my product was filmed in a sports park and the other was filmed in the streets
• Ace mask, my actor has a face mask, the other products actor does not
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
• Compare your work to similar existing products and discuss the similarities and differences
• Put your final piece(s) in the centre of a page alongside an existing product
• Use text boxes and arrows
• the similarities my product has to the existing product is the camera angle, I used a low angle on the ground facing the
actors faces from their upper torso.
• Blue sky background
• All male
• Black and white clothing
• 10 second shots
• Hand gestures
• Arrangement of crew and artist
• Differences
• Pixelated faces of crew
• Closer shot
• Scarf covering artist face
• Less actors
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
• Does your work look good? Was it creative? What aspects of your
video’s visuals do you like? What would you improve? How would
you improve it?
• Discuss the strengths and weaknesses
• Put your final piece(s) in the centre of a page and analyse them
• Use text boxes and arrows
• I do think my product looks good because I do think it includes a wide variation of
visual effects, I also used different camera angles for each shots, the camera shot I think
looks the most attractive is when the camera is placed on the ground and my three
actors are stood tall looking down on the camera. The thing I found the most creative
about my product was my camera movement, my camera movement included rotations,
tracking and shaking, my favourite was the tracking shots because on these shots I
always made sure my actors head was to stay in the centre of the screen. To improve
my video I think would have filmed more slowly and let my actors be more prepared for
filming. I would have also taken more time to edit my video, I think I could have spent
an extra few days editing my video rather than trying to finish earlier than I needed to.
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
• How have you appealed to your target audience? What specific bits of
content would appeal to your target audience.
• Refer to your findings from your questionnaire.
• Put your final piece(s) in the centre of a page and analyse them
• Use text boxes and arrows
• I have appealed to my target audience by including content that is popular amongst my age group 16-
18year olds. I have included a popular UK rap (grime) song “Aitch - Miss Me With it”, I also included
young actors so they can relate to the mood of the song, younger actors would be better than much
older actors because the style of the music is more understood from the younger generation. my
product also appeals to my target audience because I have used similar visual effects from other music
videos that are more popular in this age group. I have used distortion effects, RGB prism blur and a few
VHS retro effects to give my video an old look to it.
11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
I liked the visual effects you created in this video, I like how the shots
quite short and how well it goes with the beat, I also liked the main
think he did a good job acting as a rapper in front of the camera.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
What I think you could improve is the way you film your shots, I did
few shots where the actor was not in perfect position all the time and
cropped out the video, it works but I think you could have filmed
shots to make sure they would all fit nicely.
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
I like the way you used the effects that fits in with the beats from the
and the use of transitions throughout the video. You’ve used a good
and the style of video that fits in how the people in the video were
and acted, the use of editing the colours on the person. How you
from daylight to night-time.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
The improvements you could make is not focus on just one person
in the video, you could do a balanced focus on all three people who's
video.
Also you could have a slight storyline that fits in with the song.
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
14. PEER FEEDBACK
SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I do agree that I could have filmed my shots more carefully, looking
back at the video I did begin to notice how some of the shots were
poor compared to the rest, I should have took longer filming and
made sure my actors were in shot whilst I was editing. , I do think I
could have focused on more than just one person throughout this
video rather than just focus on the main actor. I agree that I did a
good job of contrasting between day and night shots in my music
video.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with the statement which says I cold have had a more
direct storyline for this music video, the music video was not
intended to be an emotional story telling song, this is a grime music
video and I am replicating the same style of video that most grime
videos have.
15. PEER FEEDBACK
SUMMARY
The changes I would make to my product based on my
written feedback would be for me to take more time
filming my shots and not to rush them, if I had done this
my actors would have had more time to rehearse what
they are going to do and it might have given them a
boost of confidence being in front of the camera. I would
also include a lot more actors and focus on more than
just my main actor throughout the whole video, I would
like them to be included. I would change the way I made
it colourful all the time, I think I added a bit too much
colour to my effects and I could have been more creative
and added in some different effects.
