How your work appeals to your audience.
I think my video appeals to the audience because it’s entertaining, and it’s based around
people that are a similar age. Compared to other shows, it’s unusual for a character to have
an affair and then get run over at the end.
From the survey, Comedy Drama got the biggest result. In some ways the video is a comedy
drama because of the way it ends. The video ends on a cliff-hanger because we don’t see if
George lives or dies. This makes the audience want to watch more because they will want to
know what happens next. Does George live or does he die? Does Isabelle forgive him and
take him back or does she still want to leave him?

Shot Selection
When it came to filming, The shots became very limited because I didn’t realise how small the room was. In my shot list, I planned to use a range of shots throughout (e.g panning shots, wide
shots).
Filming the opening titles went to plan, apart from the camera didn’t work so I used my phone to record them. The shots for the opening titles went to plan because they were outside in wide
open spaces.
Editing
Overall, the editing was quite difficult because each shot happened either too quick or too slow, making it difficult to get the timing right. I used slow motion in the shot where ‘George’ is
watching the tv. This slowed it down, but it’s easy to see slow motion has been used because the camera moves slightly.
The timing of the music works well with the opening titles because the shots have been cut to the beat. The shots transition in time with the music.
Focus
The camera is in focus throughout the video, making it clear to see what’s happening. However, some of the shots were a bit delayed – the camera wasn’t in the right place at the right time
because sometimes the characters head were chopped off. This is because the camera was in a tight place, making it slightly difficult to angle it.
Lighting
I used natural light throughout the video because of the colours of each room. The room colours are quite bright. If I used assisted lighting it would have glared in the frame, making it too bright
and difficult to see what’s happening in the scenes.
Sound
While the dialogue is very loud and clear, there is a lot of distortion in the background. I turned the audio down to try and block the distortion out. This made the sound slightly better, but the
distortion can still be heard. Also, although the dialogue was loud and clear, it was too loud. Turning the audio down improved it as it doesn’t too violent.
Aesthetics
Aesthetically the video looks good because the shots are very clear, there not too blurry or distorted. It’s only blurry in the point of view shot to show how the character is feeling and why she is
reacting so quickly.
The characters aren’t having an argument with each other because they are looking at the sofa when they’re speaking. This is something I didn’t see when filming. Also some of the characters
movements aren’t right, making it look like it’s been filmed carelessly.

4. Production
Weaknesses
Planning the production stage was difficult because I couldn’t see how long filming would take. This is something I need to work on for the future.
Writing the first script went well, but I overcomplicated the idea, making it not make much sense. I had to rewrite it.
The first storyboard was all long shots, not able to see the actions of each shot clear enough.
Strengths
I could make the production schedule for the research, planning and evaluation weeks fairly easily because how much time I was given to complete them
in.
The second version of the script was easier to understand. It was less complicated and the storytelling was a lot clearer.

The floorplans are very detailed because they show what and where everything is. They also show where the cameras and where the characters will be at
what times.
I managed the time fairly well because I completed everything in time, but I feel I didn’t manage it as well as I have done with other projects. This was
because the research took a lot of time because the brief was vague. Also, I had a lot of appointments outside college meaning I had to push a lot of work
back.
I managed to do some of the work outside college when I had chance, but I feel I got slightly further, but not as far as I hoped because it was making me
feel stressed.
If I had more time, I would have sent the script out earlier to the actors because they would have had more time to rehearse. It didn't sound as natural as
it should have done because they were reading the script as I was filming it. I would have made sure I was there doing the rehearsals to make sure the
actors gave a smoother performance.
It would have been better if I did some more experiments. If I did this, I would have tried out different shots to see which shots worked and which didn't.
In some ways I pushed myself because I filmed the whole thing outside college. I also asked someone who I know, but not that well.

What new skills, techniques and ways of working have you used?
I learnt how to make a scene blurry using a key frame.
I learnt how to script write using the proper font and text centring.
To write the script, I learnt how to write it in the format which the Industry use. This included using the ‘Courier’ font and centring the text.

In some ways I feel like I pushed myself because I filmed the whole video outside of college and asked someone who I didn't’t know that well to be in the video. In the past most of my filming has been done in
college and I would ask the same person to be in each video again.
I feel like I’ve made some progress because I learnt something new in premiere which I’ve never used before.
For the first part of my research, I made a survey asking my audience how old they were, What genres they like, how they watch TV and what platforms they watch on. From the results, everyone said they were
aged 16-25, and they said they liked comedy drama the most as well as drama on its own and mysteries. Most people said they watched TV on YouTube which is where I planned to post my finished product.
Then I looked at the Psychographics my video will/might involve. I also looked at the Uses and Gratifications my video will include.
For the existing products, I researched three clips from ’Coronation Street’ because the storylines were linked with the video I plan to make. I looked at the locations, Camera angles, post production, lighting,
costumes and why it might appeal to the audience. I also looked at the opening titles from the TV show ‘Scarborough’ because I needed inspiration for my opening titles and for my video to reference York.
In some ways this project has knocked my confidence because I feel that the brief wasn’t explained properly. Was the project meant to be about York or did it need to be set in York?
