Discuss appropriate and inappropriate behaviour

introduce yourself and say, “Pleased to
meet
you”
sit with good posture
don’t fidget
maintain eye contact
don’t drink, eat or chew gum

Make a list of common interview questions on the
board and what should be mentioned in the
response

Questions
- Tell me about yourself
- What were your responsibilities at your
previous
job?
- Tell me about a challenge you faced in your
last
place of employment and how you overcame
them
- Why did you resign from you last workplace?
- Do you prefer to work independently or in a
DEMONSTRATION:

Have learners observe appropriate and
inappropriate behaviourfor an interview while
watching the video

Have learners take notes of the questions and
the answers asked while watching the video

-

Recap what the learners observed after the video
APPLICATION:
-

While learners are practicing the interviewer and
candidate roles, walk around and observe their
non-verbal and verbal skills

-

Provide feedback and answer questions that come
up

-

Once everyone has had the opportunity to
practice, go over the rules of the class while
people are presenting (listening and watching
quietly and giving constructive feedback and not
insulting peers)
INTEGRATION:
-

After every group has presented to the class,
encourage other learners to give feedback on
what should be improved on and what was done
well

-

The facilitator should also provide each group
with feedback

-

After all the presentations and feedback, have
students reflect on their experience and allocate
some time for them to ask questions

  • 2. MATERIALS: - whiteboard markers - handout of common questions and answers ACTIVATION: - Brainstorm with learners words associated with jobs vocabulary words to include resume curriculum vitae (cv) training qualifications skills experience work history cover letter reference
  • 3. - Discuss inappropriate questions/ topic an interviewer can ask Inappropriate questions to ask Age Birthplace Disability Marital/family status National origin Race Religion Sex
  • 4. - Discuss appropriate dress code / appearance Men and Women suit (not bright colours) little jewelry neat hair clean nails light perfume/ cologne
  • 5. - Discuss appropriate and inappropriate behaviour Behaviour smile offer a handshake introduce yourself and say, “Pleased to meet you” sit with good posture don’t fidget maintain eye contact don’t drink, eat or chew gum
  • 6. - Make a list of common interview questions on the board and what should be mentioned in the response Questions - Tell me about yourself - What were your responsibilities at your previous job? - Tell me about a challenge you faced in your last place of employment and how you overcame them - Why did you resign from you last workplace? - Do you prefer to work independently or in a
  • 7. DEMONSTRATION: - Have learners observe appropriate and inappropriate behaviourfor an interview while watching the video - Have learners take notes of the questions and the answers asked while watching the video - Recap what the learners observed after the video
  • 8. APPLICATION: - While learners are practicing the interviewer and candidate roles, walk around and observe their non-verbal and verbal skills - Provide feedback and answer questions that come up - Once everyone has had the opportunity to practice, go over the rules of the class while people are presenting (listening and watching quietly and giving constructive feedback and not insulting peers)

INTEGRATION: - After every group has presented to the class, encourage other learners to give feedback on what should be improved on and what was done well - The facilitator should also provide each group with feedback - After all the presentations and feedback, have students reflect on their experience and allocate some time for them to ask questions
