Filial Piety In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Timeless was the best way to describe the traditions past down through Chinese culture: these
traditions are based off the morals of devotion and sacrifice. The Chinese culture values the many
aspects of a person s character toward his or her family. The Chinese believe that a person must
respect his or her elders and parents to the highest degree, a term called filial piety. In The Joy Luck
Club, the readers sees an example of filial piety when Lindo Jong portrays self sacrifice when she has
to manage with her new family and mother in law. Throughout the novel, Amy Tan exposes the issues
in Chinese Culture when faced with modernization and integration of cultures. The issue is between
the mothers and their daughters when the daughters do not agree about the same value of filial piety
because they have become Americanized and see the unequal treatment of their ... Show more content

The flaws of filial piety are exposed when the characters see they are not being treated equally and
their previous beliefs do not hold weight in their new society. The hope of the mothers is for their
daughters to have the best of both worlds, the Chinese mothers berate their daughters to succeed in the
American society but also to follow the values of their Chinese heritage. The daughters are against the
ideas their mothers have taught them and abandon these traditions to adopt new American ideas. After
the daughters go against their parents teachings, they eventually remember the significances of family
and follow their mothers will. After Jin Mei Woo goes to China she sees the significance of her mother
s dream of having the best life for her and at that moment Jin realizes her true ethnic identity (Tan 307

approach to family ties and morals that still hold the values of traditional Chinese

A Simulation Based On A Health Care Organization
This paper focuses on a simulation based on a health care organization that is having financial
problems. The simulation is based on a cardiac care hospital called Elijah Heart Center. The paper
discusses decisions that had to be made based on financial dilemmas Elijah Heart Center is facing and
how these dilemmas can be solved based on the decisions made in the simulation. Phase I: Bridge a
Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff. These types of
employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a different company,
so it costs more money to have them work for the company than regular company employees. The
Elijah Heart Center will find that not only will the organization save money by not hiring contract
employees but they do not have the expertise, training and knowledge of company policies and
procedures that regular employees have. The second option that I chose was to change the skill mix.
Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited expertise have to have duties that do not
require special training or degrees. These employees can concentrate of tasks that do not require much
skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or comforting the patient. This provides assistance to the
licensed employees so they can better concentrate on patient care without worrying about smaller
tasks. This also benefits the heart center by reducing the expenditure on employee salaries. This way

The Iroquois Creation Myth
Exegesis Many Native Americans tell stories of the creation of earth that explain how they came to be
before the Europeans entered North America. Creation myths vary among all cultures; however, they
all have one thing in common; heaven and earth. One of the most popular creation myths was the
Iroquois creation myth. The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee meaning People of the Longhouse (Iroquois
Indian Museum, n.d.) consists of six Indian nations that include the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga,
Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes. In the beginning, there was a belief that before the creation of
earth, there were two realms, the sky, and the lower world that consisted of water and water creatures.
From the sky, a young woman named the Sky Woman was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He flung her head into the night sky and threw her body into the ocean, resulting in the Sky Woman
becoming Grandmother moon. Interpretation The story of the Sky Woman, her daughter and twin
grandsons depicts the beginning of the world and creates the belief that everyone is born with good
and evil in them. The significance of nature influences how the Native Americans belief that nature,
animals, and humans are equal counterparts. If it had not been for the help of the animals, Sky Woman
would have died and the creation of earth would not exist. The twins play a significant role among the
Iroquois that the good and evil are necessary for the world to be in balance. The belief that Sky
Woman is the leader of all female life who controls the rise and fall of the waters and a companion to
the stars (Olan, n.d.) and regulates the monthly cycles of all females in which guarantees new life will
be born (Olan, n.d.). The myth signifies the Native American belief of how the creation and
reincarnation of humans connects to the rise and fall of the sun and moon. The Iroquois Creation Myth
is a detailed and complex myth that has many different versions. The earliest complete transcription
and translation of the Iroquois creation myth by David Cusick s Sketches of the Ancient History of the
Six Nations (Cusick, 1828). In different versions of the myth, Sky Woman gives birth to twin boys,
and in another, Sky Woman s daughter gives birth. In similar sequence,

(a) What is a promissory note? Identify and briefly explain the roles of the parties to a P note issue.
(b) What are the main differences between P notes and commercial bills of exchange?
A promissory note, which typically has a maturity of 90 days, is described as an unconditional
promise in writing made by one person to another, signed by the maker engaging to pay, on demand at
a fixed or determinable future time, a sum certain in money to the order of a specified person or to the

(b) Explain the effects of the with resource and notification conditions that may be incorporated in a
factoring contract.
Factoring is the means in realising debts whereby a firm sells its receivables to a factoring company,
which will then chase the creditors for the debts, making this form of debts a form of asset based
finance (Kravaica et al 2006). The factoring firm would purchase the accounts receivable at a discount
to the face value, which is the cost of the firm s efforts in collecting the debts on behalf of the firm.
The cost of the firm is the discount of the accounts receivable but the benefit of the firm relying on the
factoring service is its access to the funds and not having to expend its efforts in chasing for the debts
(Viney Phillips 2012, 313).
Factoring has been used in increasing popularity for small and medium sized enterprises because these
firms do not have the advantage of a large firm in terms of borrowing and therefore, rely on factoring
for their working capital (Borgia et al 2010).
The factoring contract may vary for different firms but it will specify the parties that are responsible
for future bad debts in case some of the debts become uncollectible. A contract with recourse factoring
means that the factoring company may make a claim against the firm should the accounts receivable
debt becomes bad (Viney Phillips 2012, 313). Logically, the contract with recourse would have a
lower discounting to the

Describe The Victorian Era
The Victorian Age (1830 1901)
Introduction
The Victorian era is a term used to refer to the period during which Britain was under the control of
Queen Victoria. It was a period that was different from all the other periods in the history of Britain.
The Victorian era was before the Georgian era. This period of British history has lasted about 63 years,
starting from when Queen Victoria began to rule in 1837 and ended when she died in 1901.
This essay aims to completely describe the Victorian era, the reason why I choose this era specifically
is because one of the greatest novels that I have read were written in that era, therefore I would like to
analyze this era in order to know what happened in that era and what influenced the authors to write
such great novels.

result, policies in against discriminatory laws were existed. Women could not vote, could not own a

workers or agricultural labors. At that time society did not consider that women need a proper
education and consequently it was only for men. As a result, it was rare to find women in skilled jobs
that required higher or intermediate education. Women then were generally expected to be
housekeepers or housewives .The role of women did not go beyond a wife or mother who took care of

The Influence Of The Emancipation Proclamation
The African Americans turned the tide of the war , said Abraham Lincoln. If the African Americans
did not join the Union, the South would of won. The Announcement of the Emancipation
Proclamation was a good war strategy due to the amount of soldiers they gained. It enabled the
African Americans to join the Union army and gave them tremendous amounts of help in numbers.
The Emancipation Proclamation was a document that set slaves free except in the border states of
Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and Delaware. The Emancipation Proclamation came into play after
the Union s victory at the Battle of Antietam, which was the bloodiest day. The purpose was to free the
slaves in order for them to join the Union Army. Lincoln used this as a war strategy

Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of
themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen
hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage
during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view,
the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s
Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women
had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in
the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that
in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her
husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her
prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before
the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the
community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one
husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times
(Marcotte). The Wife of Bath wants to have equality as a female in the social aspects of her marriage.

Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People
Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet
predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly
hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase
of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the
issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of
obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood
pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial,
kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with
more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of
Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2
and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In
children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the
95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight,
and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). Despite the risks associated with
an excessive weight, obesity rates have yet to significantly decline for all age groups, and the

Traditional Approaches Of Power And Control
ARE TRADITIONAL APPROACHES TO POWER AND CONTROL RELEVANT TO
CONTEMPORARY MANAGEMENT The Oxford dictionary defines management, as the process of
dealing with or controlling things or people. Businesses have a set structure on how they operate,
however, they did not just come up with it on the spot. Many of these structures were formulated in
the past and now implement due to the fact that they work. This essay aims to explore how traditional
approaches, in relation to power and control in businesses, are applicable to businesses in the current
day and age. It talks about the responsibility of the manager to use their power to make sure that the
objectives of the organisations can be met. It will talk about what power is and what types of ... Show

He argued that managers should place emphasis on finding the best way to do a set task and then to
implement it for everyone to follow. Essentially, this would mean that the manager would be in
control of his human labour and has the necessary power to tell them what to do and how to do it. The
philosophy was that if all staff followed one way, they could be more efficient, and thus be able to get
more work done. If more work was done, then the set objectives could be achieved at a faster rate,
which, In turn, could result in positive performance of the business. This relates to Fayol s second
principle which is that the manager has the right to use their power and authority to act in a way that
ensures they are carrying out their own managerial responsibilities (Rodrigues 2011). Since power
refers to the capacity of an individual to influence others, managers would have needed to devise ways
on how to use their power to get things done. One potential way is for the manager to be highly
regarded in the organisation, meaning they are one of the best managers in the organisation. French
and Raven (1959) called this a form of expert power, where the individual has knowledge that is
valued by the business. It is believed that these individuals could have a higher influence, on others, in
the organisation than those with other forms of power (Podsakoff Schriesheim 1985). However, this

was showcased for the world on the television game show that we all know named Jeopardy. All of the
hard work and research paid off, Watson won the game! This was not only a breakthrough for AI and
HCI, but it also proved that the concept of machines helping humans was a success. Interestingly
enough, during years of Watson s development there were moments where Watson hit a wall and
required engineers to step in to help reach the level. In the same regard Watson has helped humans
solve hurdles in HCI development. Watson was a benchmark that left no questions whether or not
humans plus machines is the optimal way to proceed into the future. This solidified IBM s goal to

Who Is Grendel s Mother In Beowulf
In Beowulf , Grendel s mother is perhaps one of the most confusing characters. While she is notably
smaller and supposedly more frail than her son, it is clear that Grendel s mother is quite possibly the
most vicious beast presented in this piece of literature. Grendel s mother could be best described as a
grief racked and ravenous (1278) creature when he finds out about her son s death, and her disposition
is one that is desperate for revenge (1278). Grendel s mother may represent a number of things in the
text, and the author chooses to depict her as a limitless being. Grendel s mother possesses many of the
traits that the warriors do, and her hunger to avenge her son s death is one resonant of the heroic code.
In the heroic code, families

Resolving Internal And External Conflicts
Having the skills to resolve internal and external conflicts effectively is one of the biggest challenges
faced by organizations in today s business world. In most cases, to attain success in conflict issues,
mediators are needed. They are vital to success as they act as they act as neutral parties to analyze a
conflict by listening to both parties and coming up with a solution. The mediator is completely
impartial (neutral) person(s) who probably does not know either party, but will act as a middle man
that listens to both sides of the situation from the two and see if there is any middle ground
opportunities for some kind of arrangement, acceptable to both sides, which will in part or fully help
to resolve the situation. By so doing, a mediator functions as an intermediary. A mediator talks to
parties in separate rooms and never allows shouting or interruption from disputants facing each other.
In fact, often there is no need, allowing disputants to be in the same room at all. The role of the
mediator is to shuttle or go between the parties. However, this paper will describe a work related
conflict experience where a mediator was used to resolve the conflict, define the role of a mediator,
explain the types of data a mediator may choose to gather and analyze when conducting a session to
reduce or eliminate the conflict, assess how the information is utilized in a mediation plan by
providing a detailed example of each.

Cyber Defense And Security Issues
Understanding cyber defense and security issues such as cyber crime and cyber attacks ensure
efficient functioning of information systems. Cyber attacks are real, unexpected and increasing in
numbers according to Naumovski and Kenkov (2014) cyber defense is emerging as a high priority
with the increased use of information technology. Naumovski et al. (2014) noted that understanding
cyber defense and security issues would ensure efficient operation of information systems. Naumovski
et al. (2014) explained the scope of cyber defense and the devastating effect and consequences of
cyber attacks.
Governments of the world have begun to slowly develop some procedures and actions to protect cyber
space, and because of the reliance of our societies on smart devices, this has resulted in more security
issues then cyber security practitioners can handle. The use of information technology by many
participants defines cyber space as the new domain of security and a critical area of national security.
Securing the society against cyber attacks has become one of the highest priorities from both the
internal and external threat in cyber space (Naumovski et al., 2014).
As stated by Rid and Buchanan (2015) Cyber attacks are not created equal every individual is different
and the damage it causes is one of the most important distinguishing features of any network breach.

This choice impacted the book by letting you read it in Mike s shoes. He also let you feel how Mike
felt. Because if you close your eyes you can picture every bit off the book because of all the sensory
details Mike Lupica used. For instance when Mike was the third base coach he called the fake bunt,
and told the kid to swing Mike Lupica wrote Wham!!! That made me feel like I was there and could
hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one example out of the rest of the
really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. I recommend this book to someone that likes
baseball or somebody that likes to read about sports. I chose this recommendation because the book is
about baseball. Also somebody that likes lovey dovey books won t like this book. I said this because
this has nothing even remotely close to this. I rate this book a 10 out of 10. My reason for choosing the
rate I did was that this was a great book. Heat was the best book I have ever read. I think I liked it a lot
because it was about baseball, and I love everything about baseball. Mike Lupica used so many
details, and it made me just want to keep reading. He also used so many hooks during the book, and I
got to the point where I couldn t put the book down. I liked the book the most during the second

Biological Anthropology Of Aging Summary
Biological Anthropology of Aging
The article that I chose to examine was the Biological Anthropology of Aging. This article was written
by Gillian H. Ice from the Department of Social Medicine. He studied in Ohio University College of
Osteopathic Medicine. This article was published in 2005 2006 the publisher is Kluwer Academic
Publishers Plenum, Volume 20 Issue 2 from pages 87 90. It is written in The Journal of Cross Cultural
Gerontology. This journal is discussing the fact that aging in our population is increasing dramatically,
and not only developed countries but also in developing nations as well.
The purpose of this article is the study of the health within cultures and how aging has changed
dramatically over the years. The aging process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since elderly populations are now increasing, one fifth of individuals in developed countries are over
60 years old and if this pattern tends to continue it is projected that by 2030 there will be 1/3rd of
individuals older than 60. Many may believe that the most elderly people come from the United
States, but clear research shows that 59% of the world elderly individuals are found in developing
countries. Japan also had a moderate increase in elderly individuals from 7% to 14% in just 26 years,
other Asian countries will see similar increasing patterns as well. Europe has seen some similar life

Finanux Comparison
Microsoft Windows has long dominated the business and home desktop market but there is a new
contender on the block in the shape of LINUX that is beginning to compete with Microsoft Windows
on many different fronts. What is this LINUX and how does it compare and contrast with the
Microsoft Windows operating system?
Microsoft Windows has been around since 1983 and it s present incarnation, Microsoft Windows
2000, owes its roots to Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, and Windows NT. LINUX has been around since
1991, for all of its newness, is the latest incarnation of the UNIX operating system which first came
into existence in 1969.
Let s start by comparing the minimum hardware requirements specified by each vendor for both

In LINUX systems, files are routinely modified and manipulated by administrators and users. The
core commands used for manipulating and interacting with the operating system generally involve
manipulating files, directories and programs within. Manipulating files in LINUX is done via the
command line and LINUX has many powerful utilities that are used to describe and modify the
contents of files. These commands may seem trivial when used alone, but by connecting these
commands together you are able to create powerful text processing features. (1994). LINUX and
UNIX systems have a deep history using powerful tools for file manipulation and reporting. The grep
tool allows users to search within the contents of a file or files and return the string of interest. It is
very powerful to be able to run a quick loop and search within each text file for a particular phrase.
The tail command allows the user to view the last lines in a particular file. In this example, it is used to
return the last lines in a web server log.
You can see that someone clearly thinks there is a Microsoft IIS web server and is attempting to find
compromises. After examining, the information a system administrator would quickly block that
incoming segment. Not only can commands be used to examine the contents of files but also the files
themselves are routinely examined for possible changes or updates. This example shows how a simple
list command clearly shows the user

Beating on Against the Current Essay
Beating On Against the Current Each of us inevitable Each of us limitless each of us with his or her
right upon the earth, Each of us allowed the eternal purports of the earth, Each of us here as divinely
as any is here (Whitman 27). From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a group of
young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its
girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians would later lead
the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in their search for
something more than the consumerism and conformity that plagued their society. Jack Kerouac s On

Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and
protest.
Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly
apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone
hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and
speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he
stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the
internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places
importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks
like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of
living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer we
didn t know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question (Kerouac).
The 1940 s, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but
along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation s youth that
was alienated, restless, and dissatisfied. looking for something to experience in a, frenzied pursuit of
extreme exacerbation of the nerves . (Patrick Julian).

South African American History
In the 1830s, the British Government began to look to South Africa for the abundant gold and
diamond in the area, as well as, with the hopes of gaining control of the most strategic port and route
to trade with India. The British acted quickly, and started to take control of the cape of South Africa.
In 1833, they emancipated the Afrikaners slaves, created more taxes, and auctioned off previously
communal land. This caused great rage within the Boer community. The Boers were Dutch and
Huguenot people that migrated to South Africa in the late 17th century (Great Trek). Starting in 1835,
the Boers left their homeland with the goal of starting a new life free from British rule. The majority
of the migrants left from the Eastern frontier of South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for them becoming a nation. Once being granted independence to the trekkers in the Transvaal and

migrants brought South Africa great pride and are a strong representation of a hard working group of

The Disastrous Effects Of Evil In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
Evil s Disastrous Effects Bell defines evil as human actions or inactions that harm other people. I
would add to that qualification without justification or excuse (Leong, 2004, para. 1). This quote
provides an accurate description of what evil generally is; it is not just an action, it can also be a lack
of action. However, evil is also, in most cases, what causes the aforementioned action or lack there of.
Additionally, evil is unjustifiable in any way. In fact, anyone who seeks to justify evil has likely been
consumed by evil themselves. That is one of the greatest dangers of evil; it has the ability to infect,
and sometimes even corrupt, the most noble men. Evil exists throughout the world, and it can have
disastrous effects on mankind; it defiles morals, leads to wicked actions, and turns men into animals.
Evil Defiles Morality Evil has the ability to defile and corrupt the morals of even the most noble
hearted men. There is nothing more efficient at corrupting sound morality than pure evil. I said I could
see that very well, but what I wanted was a certain quantity of rivets and rivets were really what Mr.
Kurtz wanted (Conrad, 1990, p. 44). In this quote from Heart of Darkness, the protagonist, Marlow,
chooses to lie in order to get what he wants despite his previous words about lying, You know I hate,
detest, and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it
appeals me (Conrad, 1990, p. 42). Even though Marlow

U.S. Foreign Policy Essay
Throughout the course of history, the United States has remained consistent with its national interest
by taking many different actions in foreign policy. There have been both immediate and long term
results of these actions. Foreign policy is the United States policy that defines how we deal with other
countries economically and politically. It is made by congress, the president, and the people. Some of
the motivations for United States foreign policy are national security, economics, and idealism. The
United States entry into World War I in 1917 and the escalation of the Vietnam War in 1964 and the
both had great impact on the United States.
A major type of foreign policy in the 1964 was containment. The Vietnam War was fought ... Show

The goals of this foreign policy was to end communism containment while starting democracies. For
the United States, the war ended in the withdrawal of American troops and the failure of its foreign
policy in Vietnam.
Another major foreign policy action was the entry to World War I. On August 4, 1914 there was an
outbreak in Europe. A war started between the central powers and the allied powers. The central
powers consisted of Germany, Austria Hungry, and the Ottoman Empire. They were also known as the
Triple Alliance. The Allied Powers, also know as the Triple Entente consisted of Britain, France, and
Russia. An immediate cause of the war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914.
Some long term causes that started the war were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism.
America tried to keep themselves isolated from the war in Europe. Before the war, America had an
idea of neutrality. Neutrality is when American lives and property is not threatened. There was great
ethnic diversity in the United States which led to a public union about war. The United States also had
the idea of freedom of the seas. This meant the routes for trading were open. The United States had the
desire to trade with both the central and the allied powers. The United States had a great economic
interest in the war at this time. There were many different

Research Design And Research Project
Research Design and Methodology Research Design and Purpose The research design of this action
research project is nonexperimental. The research attempts to examine the relationship between the
alignment of home and school beliefs or expectations as it relates to the push to limit gender
stereotypes in the classrooms of young preschool age students. Understanding how gender stereotypes
affect preschool age children s perceptions of what they feel is acceptable gender behavior in school
compared to what these children feel is acceptable at home. This action research project will be using
qualitative research methods to investigate and gain a better understanding of preschool students and
their parents perspectives, opinions, and attitudes about gender stereotypes as they relate to home and
school alignment. This project s researchers will collect descriptive non numerical data to interpret
preschool age students and their parents views and attitudes. Qualitative research methods are the best
method for my capstone project, as I am attempting to understand the attitudes and opinions of
individuals that cannot be quantified by a number. According to Ary, Jacobs, Sorensen, Walker (2015),
qualitative methods focus on understanding social phenomena from the perspective of human
participants in natural settings (p. 24). Through this project, I do not seek to predict an outcome but to
understand the effect of two distinct viewpoints about young children and their

Militarism, Nationalism, And The Start Of The Alliance System
Militarism, nationalism, and the start of the alliance system between the great powers of the world in
the beginning of the 20th century caused an enormous conflict that shortly after turned to the First
World War. In late June 1914, Gavrilo Princip a Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz
Ferdinand of Austria which shortly after caused the beginning of the greatest and bloodiest war in
history. The war was fought on different theaters by the world s greatest empires at that time. The
allies composed of the British and the French empires joined forces with mighty Russia against the
Central powers composed of Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. In 1917, three years
after the war broke out, the Allies were joined by the United States which forced a quick defeat of the
Central Powers. The introduction of new weapon technology and trench warfare caused an
unimaginable amounts of destruction and deaths all over the content of Europe where most of the
fighting took place. By the time the Great War had ended in 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had
been killed and 21 million more injured. Many historians of the 20th Century blame the generals of
the Great War for the massive death toll, they lacked the ability to adapt to the new warfare tactics and
the horrifying modern weaponry. The Germans and their allies began fighting in World War I on two
fronts, invading Belgium in the west in order to attack France and defending all of the Russian attacks

Faith Bandler s Theory
Faith Bandler. Born 1918, Tumbulgum NSW, one of 8 children. A descendant of South Sea Islanders.
South sea islanders refers to the Australian descendants of people from more than 80 islands in the
Western Pacific who were recruited between the mid to late 19th century as labour in the sugarcane
fields of Queensland. Some were even kidnapped or blackbirded into long term services.
At the age of only 12 13 her father was kidnapped from the island of Ambrym, in 1883, and brought to
Australia to work as an unpaid labourer in the Queensland cane fields. Could any of you imagine that?
Waking up one day not knowing where your family was?

I Am An American Born Asian Male Teenager
I am an American born Asian male teenager. According to the East Asian Youth, there are two kinds of
Asian guys: the smart, athletic kind and the cool, lenient kind. I don t fit under neither types and as a
result, I became self conscious of the way I act, not to also mention my overweight body. I didn t
know how to be myself while conforming to the stereotypes. That s when I discovered Kpop, or
Korean Pop Culture. I immersed myself into the music, the dramas, and even the food. I found a
second home, even if it was through my computer. These korean stars were talented, funny, and most
of all cool. They had an aura around them that I was not able to find in any American stars. Maybe it
is because they were all trained to do so; but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start off, I will be explaining what Kpop is, what is the Hallyu wave, and Local vs Global
identities. My second section is the K pop production: what idols are, how idol groups are formed so
that will be like recruitment, training, the so called death contracts, etc. My third section will be about
where K pop differs from American pop. This will already be mentioned in the first section but this
will be in depth research on such differences, and this section will actually require me to use a lot of
YouTube videos. This section will have me using a lot of react videos where Americans react to Kpop
or vice versa. The fourth section is the real deal: the mula. Where does the money come in from,
where does the money go to, why is so much money being spent, etc. For my last section this will be
where my conclusion is formed.
If an average Westerner were to be asked of a successful music artist, they might think of a band like
Coldplay. Having global concert tours across Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, etc. Another
may be Adele who had sold over 8 million copies of her newest album 25. In short, one might expect
the names of American or other Western artists to dominate the iTunes libraries and download charts
in the United States. But while the American industry is certainly doing well, the Republic of Korea, a
country whose population is only about 50.5 million, has managed to cultivate a vibrant and

Essay about Cubism
Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picassso was probably the most famous artist of the twentieth century. During his artistic career
he created a large body of work that consisted of sculptures, prints and ceramics, while experimenting
with several different materials. Today Picasso is known as one the forefathers of the artistic
movement known as Cubism.
Pablo Picasso was born on October twenty fifth 1881, in Malaga, Spain, to Jose Ruiz and Maria
Picasso. Rather than adopt the common name of his father, Picasso took the more unique last name of
his mother as his own. quot;An artistic prodigy, Picasso at the age of fourteen, completed the one

This change in Picasso s work became known as his quot; Rose Period quot; as stated by ( ).
Picasso went on to meet George Braque, whom is also regarded as one of the forefathers of the Cubist
movement. During this period in his artistic career, Picasso created the portrait of Manuel Pallares.
To create this work of art Picasso chose to use oil as his medium of choice. What is so fascinating
about the painting is his application of the medium. Picasso uses the brush and or palette knife to
create a cross hatch effect throughout the painting. Picasso chose to use neutral tones to describe the
mood of the painting. The figure of Manuel Pallares is shown in a three quarters view within the
composition. The deliberate positioning of the figure leads the viewer to believe that Manuel was not
someone of importance. His wardrobe also lets the viewer know that he is an average person.
Picasso s treatment of the details is very representational of the Cubist style. Sharp lines and a vast
array of contrasting shapes and colors emphasize the creases of the suit jacket. This same attention to
detail is present in the mustache and the background as well.
On the other hand, Picasso s treatment of the Manuel s face is quite different. Picasso uses softer
shapes to fine the attitude of Manuel. The blandness of the face leads one to assume that Manuel was a
man of peace in a world of chaos. The background also suggests that he is a man that is completely
involved with his

Specific Surface Corporation was then able to provide customers with filters that efficiently removed
particulates from dirty hot flue gas streams hence providing customers with greater power generation
efficiency. As Parrish and Jeffery brainstormed the problems on the already existing filter industry
they arrived with two major issued that were going on in the industry. They were, one people no
longer wanted to cool down gases at the source. The other issue was that people wanted more compact
filters, they wanted them smaller. However to get smaller filters one would have to get a larger surface
area. Parrish went ahead to contact companies such as ABB and Westinghouse which used a lot of
filters and were facing the similar problems. Parrish offered Jeffery the opportunity to join him and
they pursued the opportunity together and licensed the technology created by Emmanuel Sachs and
they worked on creating the smaller filters with larger surface areas. In early 1993 Mike Cima a
professor of material science at MIT introduced Parrish to the 3DP process. Cima showed Parrish how
he used it to make ceramics, Parrish then inquired if anyone was using this technology to make filters
and Cima s response was No, why don t you do it . This was a distinct advantage for Specific Surface

  • 2. Filial Piety In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club Timeless was the best way to describe the traditions past down through Chinese culture: these traditions are based off the morals of devotion and sacrifice. The Chinese culture values the many aspects of a person s character toward his or her family. The Chinese believe that a person must respect his or her elders and parents to the highest degree, a term called filial piety. In The Joy Luck Club, the readers sees an example of filial piety when Lindo Jong portrays self sacrifice when she has to manage with her new family and mother in law. Throughout the novel, Amy Tan exposes the issues in Chinese Culture when faced with modernization and integration of cultures. The issue is between the mothers and their daughters when the daughters do not agree about the same value of filial piety because they have become Americanized and see the unequal treatment of their ... The daughters are against the ideas their mothers have taught them and abandon these traditions to adopt new American ideas. After the daughters go against their parents teachings, they eventually remember the significances of family and follow their mothers will. • 4. A Simulation Based On A Health Care Organization This paper focuses on a simulation based on a health care organization that is having financial problems. The simulation is based on a cardiac care hospital called Elijah Heart Center. The paper discusses decisions that had to be made based on financial dilemmas Elijah Heart Center is facing and how these dilemmas can be solved based on the decisions made in the simulation. Phase I: Bridge a Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff. These types of employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a different company, so it costs more money to have them work for the company than regular company employees. The Elijah Heart Center will find that not only will the organization save money by not hiring contract employees but they do not have the expertise, training and knowledge of company policies and procedures that regular employees have. The second option that I chose was to change the skill mix. Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited expertise have to have duties that do not require special training or degrees. These employees can concentrate of tasks that do not require much skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or comforting the patient. This provides assistance to the licensed employees so they can better concentrate on patient care without worrying about smaller tasks. This also benefits the heart center by reducing the expenditure on employee salaries. This way they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Iroquois Creation Myth Exegesis Many Native Americans tell stories of the creation of earth that explain how they came to be before the Europeans entered North America. Creation myths vary among all cultures; however, they all have one thing in common; heaven and earth. One of the most popular creation myths was the Iroquois creation myth. The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee meaning People of the Longhouse (Iroquois Indian Museum, n.d.) consists of six Indian nations that include the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes. In the beginning, there was a belief that before the creation of earth, there were two realms, the sky, and the lower world that consisted of water and water creatures. Interpretation The story of the Sky Woman, her daughter and twin grandsons depicts the beginning of the world and creates the belief that everyone is born with good and evil in them. The significance of nature influences how the Native Americans belief that nature, animals, and humans are equal counterparts. If it had not been for the help of the animals, Sky Woman would have died and the creation of earth would not exist. The twins play a significant role among the Iroquois that the good and evil are necessary for the world to be in balance. The belief that Sky Woman is the leader of all female life who controls the rise and fall of the waters and a companion to the stars (Olan, n.d.) and regulates the monthly cycles of all females in which guarantees new life will be born (Olan, n.d.). The myth signifies the Native American belief of how the creation and reincarnation of humans connects to the rise and fall of the sun and moon. The Iroquois Creation Myth is a detailed and complex myth that has many different versions. The earliest complete transcription and translation of the Iroquois creation myth by David Cusick s Sketches of the Ancient History of the Six Nations (Cusick, 1828). A promissory note, which typically has a maturity of 90 days, is described as an unconditional promise in writing made by one person to another, signed by the maker engaging to pay, on demand at a fixed or determinable future time, a sum certain in money to the order of a specified person or to the bearer (Viney Phillips 2012, 308). Factoring is the means in realising debts whereby a firm sells its receivables to a factoring company, which will then chase the creditors for the debts, making this form of debts a form of asset based finance (Kravaica et al 2006). The factoring firm would purchase the accounts receivable at a discount to the face value, which is the cost of the firm s efforts in collecting the debts on behalf of the firm. The cost of the firm is the discount of the accounts receivable but the benefit of the firm relying on the factoring service is its access to the funds and not having to expend its efforts in chasing for the debts (Viney Phillips 2012, 313). Factoring has been used in increasing popularity for small and medium sized enterprises because these firms do not have the advantage of a large firm in terms of borrowing and therefore, rely on factoring for their working capital (Borgia et al 2010). The factoring contract may vary for different firms but it will specify the parties that are responsible for future bad debts in case some of the debts become uncollectible. A contract with recourse factoring means that the factoring company may make a claim against the firm should the accounts receivable debt becomes bad (Viney Phillips 2012, 313). It was a period that was different from all the other periods in the history of Britain. The Victorian era was before the Georgian era. This period of British history has lasted about 63 years, starting from when Queen Victoria began to rule in 1837 and ended when she died in 1901. This essay aims to completely describe the Victorian era, the reason why I choose this era specifically is because one of the greatest novels that I have read were written in that era, therefore I would like to analyze this era in order to know what happened in that era and what influenced the authors to write such great novels. • 9. Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view, the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times (Marcotte). • 10. Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial, kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the 95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight, and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). • 12. Traditional Approaches Of Power And Control ARE TRADITIONAL APPROACHES TO POWER AND CONTROL RELEVANT TO CONTEMPORARY MANAGEMENT The Oxford dictionary defines management, as the process of dealing with or controlling things or people. Businesses have a set structure on how they operate, however, they did not just come up with it on the spot. Many of these structures were formulated in the past and now implement due to the fact that they work. This essay aims to explore how traditional approaches, in relation to power and control in businesses, are applicable to businesses in the current day and age. It talks about the responsibility of the manager to use their power to make sure that the objectives of the organisations can be met. It will talk about what power is and what types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argued that managers should place emphasis on finding the best way to do a set task and then to implement it for everyone to follow. Essentially, this would mean that the manager would be in control of his human labour and has the necessary power to tell them what to do and how to do it. The philosophy was that if all staff followed one way, they could be more efficient, and thus be able to get more work done. If more work was done, then the set objectives could be achieved at a faster rate, which, In turn, could result in positive performance of the business. This relates to Fayol s second principle which is that the manager has the right to use their power and authority to act in a way that ensures they are carrying out their own managerial responsibilities (Rodrigues 2011). Since power refers to the capacity of an individual to influence others, managers would have needed to devise ways on how to use their power to get things done. One potential way is for the manager to be highly regarded in the organisation, meaning they are one of the best managers in the organisation. French and Raven (1959) called this a form of expert power, where the individual has knowledge that is valued by the business. It is believed that these individuals could have a higher influence, on others, in the organisation than those with other forms of power (Podsakoff Schriesheim 1985). However, this does not mean ... All of the hard work and research paid off, Watson won the game! This was not only a breakthrough for AI and HCI, but it also proved that the concept of machines helping humans was a success. Interestingly enough, during years of Watson s development there were moments where Watson hit a wall and required engineers to step in to help reach the level. While she is notably smaller and supposedly more frail than her son, it is clear that Grendel s mother is quite possibly the most vicious beast presented in this piece of literature. Grendel s mother could be best described as a grief racked and ravenous (1278) creature when he finds out about her son s death, and her disposition is one that is desperate for revenge (1278). Grendel s mother may represent a number of things in the text, and the author chooses to depict her as a limitless being. Resolving Internal And External Conflicts Having the skills to resolve internal and external conflicts effectively is one of the biggest challenges faced by organizations in today s business world. In most cases, to attain success in conflict issues, mediators are needed. They are vital to success as they act as they act as neutral parties to analyze a conflict by listening to both parties and coming up with a solution. The mediator is completely impartial (neutral) person(s) who probably does not know either party, but will act as a middle man that listens to both sides of the situation from the two and see if there is any middle ground opportunities for some kind of arrangement, acceptable to both sides, which will in part or fully help to resolve the situation. By so doing, a mediator functions as an intermediary. A mediator talks to parties in separate rooms and never allows shouting or interruption from disputants facing each other. In fact, often there is no need, allowing disputants to be in the same room at all. The role of the mediator is to shuttle or go between the parties. However, this paper will describe a work related conflict experience where a mediator was used to resolve the conflict, define the role of a mediator, explain the types of data a mediator may choose to gather and analyze when conducting a session to reduce or eliminate the conflict, assess how the information is utilized in a mediation plan by providing a detailed example of each. • 19. Cyber Defense And Security Issues Understanding cyber defense and security issues such as cyber crime and cyber attacks ensure efficient functioning of information systems. Cyber attacks are real, unexpected and increasing in numbers according to Naumovski and Kenkov (2014) cyber defense is emerging as a high priority with the increased use of information technology. Naumovski et al. (2014) noted that understanding cyber defense and security issues would ensure efficient operation of information systems. Naumovski et al. (2014) explained the scope of cyber defense and the devastating effect and consequences of cyber attacks. Governments of the world have begun to slowly develop some procedures and actions to protect cyber space, and because of the reliance of our societies on smart devices, this has resulted in more security issues then cyber security practitioners can handle. The use of information technology by many participants defines cyber space as the new domain of security and a critical area of national security. Securing the society against cyber attacks has become one of the highest priorities from both the internal and external threat in cyber space (Naumovski et al., 2014). As stated by Rid and Buchanan (2015) Cyber attacks are not created equal every individual is different and the damage it causes is one of the most important distinguishing features of any network breach. • 20. Heat By Mike Lupa Summary The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing this story. Heat is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way to live without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league. Then a kid named Justin s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just to help his team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until he got back in the league, and got to pitch in the series. To my Miguelito, he said. May the next time we are all together be on the day when he pitches himself and his proud papi to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. (Lupica ... Because if you close your eyes you can picture every bit off the book because of all the sensory details Mike Lupica used. For instance when Mike was the third base coach he called the fake bunt, and told the kid to swing Mike Lupica wrote Wham!!! That made me feel like I was there and could hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one example out of the rest of the really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. I recommend this book to someone that likes baseball or somebody that likes to read about sports. I chose this recommendation because the book is about baseball. Also somebody that likes lovey dovey books won t like this book. I said this because this has nothing even remotely close to this. I rate this book a 10 out of 10. My reason for choosing the rate I did was that this was a great book. Heat was the best book I have ever read. I think I liked it a lot because it was about baseball, and I love everything about baseball. Mike Lupica used so many details, and it made me just want to keep reading. He also used so many hooks during the book, and I got to the point where I couldn t put the book down. I liked the book the most during the second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finanux Comparison Microsoft Windows has long dominated the business and home desktop market but there is a new contender on the block in the shape of LINUX that is beginning to compete with Microsoft Windows on many different fronts. Microsoft Windows has been around since 1983 and it s present incarnation, Microsoft Windows 2000, owes its roots to Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, and Windows NT. In LINUX systems, files are routinely modified and manipulated by administrators and users. The core commands used for manipulating and interacting with the operating system generally involve manipulating files, directories and programs within. Manipulating files in LINUX is done via the command line and LINUX has many powerful utilities that are used to describe and modify the contents of files. These commands may seem trivial when used alone, but by connecting these commands together you are able to create powerful text processing features. (1994). LINUX and UNIX systems have a deep history using powerful tools for file manipulation and reporting. The grep tool allows users to search within the contents of a file or files and return the string of interest. It is very powerful to be able to run a quick loop and search within each text file for a particular phrase. The tail command allows the user to view the last lines in a particular file. In this example, it is used to return the last lines in a web server log. You can see that someone clearly thinks there is a Microsoft IIS web server and is attempting to find compromises. After examining, the information a system administrator would quickly block that incoming segment. Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and protest. Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. I would add to that qualification without justification or excuse (Leong, 2004, para. 1). This quote provides an accurate description of what evil generally is; it is not just an action, it can also be a lack of action. However, evil is also, in most cases, what causes the aforementioned action or lack there of. Additionally, evil is unjustifiable in any way. In fact, anyone who seeks to justify evil has likely been consumed by evil themselves. That is one of the greatest dangers of evil; it has the ability to infect, and sometimes even corrupt, the most noble men. Evil exists throughout the world, and it can have disastrous effects on mankind; it defiles morals, leads to wicked actions, and turns men into animals. Evil Defiles Morality Evil has the ability to defile and corrupt the morals of even the most noble hearted men. There is nothing more efficient at corrupting sound morality than pure evil. I said I could see that very well, but what I wanted was a certain quantity of rivets and rivets were really what Mr. Kurtz wanted (Conrad, 1990, p. 44). In this quote from Heart of Darkness, the protagonist, Marlow, chooses to lie in order to get what he wants despite his previous words about lying, You know I hate, detest, and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it appeals me (Conrad, 1990, p. 42). Picasso went on to meet George Braque, whom is also regarded as one of the forefathers of the Cubist movement. During this period in his artistic career, Picasso created the portrait of Manuel Pallares. To create this work of art Picasso chose to use oil as his medium of choice. What is so fascinating about the painting is his application of the medium. Picasso uses the brush and or palette knife to create a cross hatch effect throughout the painting. Picasso chose to use neutral tones to describe the mood of the painting. The figure of Manuel Pallares is shown in a three quarters view within the composition. The deliberate positioning of the figure leads the viewer to believe that Manuel was not someone of importance. His wardrobe also lets the viewer know that he is an average person. Picasso s treatment of the details is very representational of the Cubist style. Sharp lines and a vast array of contrasting shapes and colors emphasize the creases of the suit jacket. This same attention to detail is present in the mustache and the background as well. On the other hand, Picasso s treatment of the Manuel s face is quite different. Picasso uses softer shapes to fine the attitude of Manuel. The blandness of the face leads one to assume that Manuel was a man of peace in a world of chaos.
