Bwoom Mask History
The Bwoom mask is a historical African mask from the late 19th to early 20th century. It was
made for the Kuba people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was made to look like a
spirit. Depending on the version on myth, the Bwoom mask could either represent the king s
younger brother, a prince, or a commoner. The Bwoom mask is a ceremonial mask although it
does not appear at funerals. The Kuba tribe uses over 20 different types of masks. The most
commonly produced item in the Kuba tribe are the wooden helmet masks. The Moshamwooy,
Nady Amwaash and Bwoom masks are the most important of these. They represented significant
people such as Woot (the founder of the ruling kingdom), Woot s wife, the King s younger
brother and a prince. The Bwoom mask is made from wood and decorated by many different
materials. These include cowrie shells, glass beads, fur, leather, cloth and seed pods. Human
features on the mask seem to have been modified by shape and size. It has a bulging forehead, a
curved chin and the nose appears fairly broad and triangular compared to those of a normal human
being. Attention is drawn to these features by the use coloured beads around them. The Bwoom
mask has a dark brown patina and over the years gone by, it has... Show more content on

The mask was designed so that the size of the mask is larger than a normal humans head,
therefore making it easier for people to see when it is worn. The unusual thing about this mask
is that there are no holes where the eyes are. In order to see, the wearer must tilt their head and
look through the nostril holes of the mask. This is supposed to give the feeling of being blind.
The Bwoom mask was not believed to possess special powers to the man wearing it, although it
was meant to manifest a spirit. When the Kuba people wore this mask they often danced and wore
clothes that cover their entire body to make its appearance more spirit

How Does Jane Tompkins Conflict With The American Indians
In the document, quot;Indians: Textualism, Morality, and The Problem of History, quot; Jane
Tompkins examines the conflicts between the English settlers and the American Indians. After
examining several primary sources, Tompkins found that different history books have different
perspectives. It wasn t that the history books took different anglesthat was troubling, but the
viewpoints contradicted one another. People who experience the same event told it through their
reality. This becomes a problem when a person who didn t experience the effect wants to know
what happened. Tompkins said, quot; The problem id that if all accounts of events are determined
through and through by the observer s frameof reference, that one will never know,... Show more

Tompkins claims this to be irrelevant, saying his viewpoint was biased. Moving on to another
contradictory perspective, Tompkins examines the perspective of Francis Jenning s The Invasion of
America written in the late sixties. Jennings saw the European settlers to brutal animals,
quot;the early settlers lied to the Indians, stole form them, murdered them, scalped them, captured
them, tortured them, raped them, soled the into slavery, confiscated their land, destroyed their
crops, burned their homes, scattered their possessions, gave them alcohol, undermined their
systems of belief, and infected them with diseases that wiped out ninety percent of their numbers
within the first hundred years after contact. quot; (206)
Examining further Tompkins saw another change of perspectives in the seventies, caused by the
American Indian Movement. Calvin Martin, author of Keepers of the Game saw the European
settlement as an invasion of the Indian s spiritual relationship with the animals. Because of fur
trade with the Europeans, the Indian s discontinued their spiritual ritual of worshipping the animal s
carcass. When disease started spreading among the Indians, brought over by the Europeans, they
thought it was because the spirits were angry with them. Martin refers to this time as a quot;holy
war. quot; The pattern of contradictions continued with a series of essays called Indians, Animals,
and the Fur Trade by Charles Hudson

Physical Effects Of Elder Abuse
Elder mistreatment involves any intentional or negligent act caused by a person that causes harm
or risks the harm of a defenseless adult. The abuse can occur at home or in long term care settings
such as nursing homes, adult family homes, and group homes. There are various types of elder
mistreatment, however physical abuseis reported more frequently. Physical abuse is purposely
causing pain and injury through slapping, hitting, and malnutrition. Neglect occurs when a person
refuses or fails to fulfill their obligations to an elder. Neglecting an elder can occur when their
food, medication, funds or medical care are withheld. The signs of abuse and neglect in an elder

Costs and Benefits of Informal Care:
Informal care contributes to society since it saves the American health care system money.
Due to the unpaid family care that is provided by informal caregivers, less money is spent by
Medicare or Medicaid. Informal care also helps society since it helps control the costs of total long
term care. If informal caregivers did not provide their care, total long term costs would double
since the value of informal care exceeds the costs of paid home care.
The demands for informal care are also increasing due to the growth of the oldest old with
chronic illnesses, more women finding jobs outside of the home, more complex families that
include older relatives living with their adult children, and racial and class inequities. These
households may not be able to afford total long term care and then have to rely on informal
caregivers. However, these families then lack the knowledge they need and are unprepared when
they are providing informal care. They are not informed on the aging process or any sources
available to their older

Bronchiectamin Case Study Examples
History of Present Illness: Ms. Mullaney is here for follow up of her bronchiectasis. Sputum

Today, she states her shortness of breath and cough is significantly improved. She did see Peter J

her, however, I get the impression that treatment for MAC is not clearly indicated at this point. She
denies any fever or chills. She does state that her appetite has returned. She has no other specific

Essay about Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit, a play written by Luis Valdez, depicts the racially charged trial of the Sleepy Lagoon
Case of 1942 in which the courts charged a group of Pachucos with the murder of another Mexican
American. During the 1940s, many Mexican Americans suffered widespread discrimination as
dramatized in Zoot Suit. To combat such discrimination many Chicanoyouth wore stylized zoot
suits, adorned with oversized jackets during fabric shortages as a form of social and political
rebellion. Zoot Suiters felt disempowered by their position within society and used their fashion to
send out a message and as a means to regain their masculinity. The Pachucos were accused with the
murder of a fellow Mexican American not because of clear evidence or... Show more content on

El Pachuco realizes that the 38th Street gang does not look up to standards, look at your gang,
they do look like mobsters (Valdez). El Pachuco is clearly indignant towards the way in which the
court mistreats the Zoot Suiters as seen by the way he stands angrily behind the gang and
recognizes the intolerance of the court and judge. Restricting the Zoot Suitors from adjusting their
appearances puts them at a disadvantage; instead of looking upright individuals, they are dirty
urbanites. Similarly, El Pachuco intervenes again when the court asks that the suspects rise when
their names were called in court. Both El Pachuco and the people s lawyer are infuriated by this
proposal. Subjecting them to this treatment is not only self incriminating, but also groups the Zoot
Suiters together and stereotypes them, rather than allowing each of them their own unique identity.
When this is proposed El Pachuco says, ready for the verdict now ese? and begins to play the
piano as the suspects stand and seat themselves. El Pachuco is sarcastic and attempts to make a
mockery of the courtroom, having the Zoot Suiters discriminated against and degraded (Valdez). El
Pachuco s actions during this moment creates a farce out of the courtroom and highlights yet
another way in which the Zoot Suiters were poorly treated. Although the Sleepy Lagoon Case was

Weapons of World War II Essay
Weapons of World War II Necessity is the mother of all invention , and so it was taught and
learned throughout all of World War 2. During World War 2 weaponry had to be upgraded and
revised to fit every situation. The engineers of the war had to constantly develop new and better
weaponry. Much like the engineers, the generals and officers were required to develop new ways
of outsmarting their enemy. Today most everything is computerized for battle situations, and much
is known about all other foreign defenses, but during the period of World War 2 there were many
secrets, and a constant distrust of some allies. Tanks were a huge aspect of ground fighting during
the war. One of the first tanks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Panzer II and the General Sherman were generally equivalent, and could both take on all
other tanks. These tanks were the primary ground force for both Axis and Allied forces for about
a year and a half. At this time the U.S. produced the Great Sherman tank, and simultaneously the
Axis forces developed the Panzer III. The Great Sherman had reinforced 62mm armor. This tank
also boasted a 75mm gun on a power turret. The Great Sherman was exceptionally maneuverable
for its size, and could travel 25 mph, which was very fast for a heavy tank model. Conversely the
Panzer III had 2 layer 30mm armor, and was a very maneuverable medium tank with heavy
firepower. The Panzer III could easily defeat a Great Sherman in a close range battle, because of
its rapid acceleration and fast moving turret. The Panzer III was good, but soon the ally forces
had to create a better tank. Nearing the end of the war Ally forces finally fashioned a tank superior
to the Panzer III. This tank boasted a 30mm turret gun, and a 75mm gun mounted on the hull; this
tank was named the Grant Tank. It could go through all other tanks like butter (Collier 90). This
tank was so successful because of its extremely thick reinforced steel plate. Though these tanks
ruled the ground, the water was another story. Tanks ruled most all the land fighting, but the seas
were a different story. Ships and

Paraphilia
Sex illustrates as, either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and
that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive
organs and structures. (Merriam Webster). Sex plays an essential role in human behavior, for
illustration, it can lower blood pressure, relieves stress and it could help you sleep better, but there
is a corruptive side to this action. Paraphilia is defining as a psychosexual disorder in which sexual
gratification is obtained through practices or fantasies involving a bizarre, deviant, or highly
unusual source of sexual arousalsuch as an animal or an object. Merriam Webster) Such as,

Social Media Makeup Essay
Social media and make up, does it blend? Nowadays, everything is heavily influenced by social
media and makeup is no exception. Everyday makeup brands come up with new ideas on how to
persuade the consumer to buy their products. Their new strategy is to collaborate with Youtubers
with millions of followers to create new products; this is the case for the new Morphe palette.
Morphe, an indie brand, released an eyeshadow palette in collaboration with Jaclyn Hill, a makeup
artist with 4.5 million followers on Youtube. They created the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow
Palette , which sold out almost immediately (Statz). This palette has impacted the makeup world

Moreover, it also comes with different eyeshadow textures, such as shimmers and mattes, which
make the palette feel complete and perfect to create a variety of looks. Makeup lovers would be
delighted with this, since they are sometimes tired of buying the same boring and normal
eyeshadows, just like a makeup enthusiast said, I find that many of my palettes seem to be
lacking these types of colors. I also appreciate the act that she included a few pops of color.
Instead of appearing RANDOM, they actually compliment the more neutral shadows in this
palette. You can tell she put a ton of thought into each color that she included (Kate). Thanks to
the variety of colors, users are able to be more versatile and creative with the looks they create,
making it a perfect choice for anyone that wants to have some fun. Pretty eyeshadow colors are
important, but pigmentation is also a big factor of the quality of an eyeshadow. When
costumers see a vibrant red color in a palette, they expect it to look the exact same way in their
eyelids, and not as a pale red. In the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette, the eyeshadows have great
pigmentation and the colors look just as in the palette. Besides, applying the eyeshadows to the
face once it s enough to get a great coverage, which is great because consumers would waste less
product. The combination of great pigmentation and great coverage is something that any makeup
lover would love to have.

Parent Child Relationship in Greek Mythology Essay
It is inferred that the parents should take care of their children and have their best interest at heart.
This however, is not the case in Greek and Roman mythology. The killing of ones own children, or
filicide, was not viewed as negative upon in their era. The contemporary times contrast with the
ancient Greek and Roman s because it was justified to use any means necessary to obtain a higher
status. The Greeks and Romans valued keeping a high social reputation and having respect for
those of great power. The motherly union between their children conflict with the reality that the
father strives to retain or gain control. These circumstances cause a tense bond between the
members of the family. The strained parent to child relationship in... Show more content on

Knowing that having the kingdom would make his name great throughout the nation, Pelias
struggled to keep it however way possible. This patriarchal love for control in turn leads to a
discord of the family, especially between the child and father. In contrast to the father, the mother
had a connection with their children, often leading to an overthrow of the husband. This
materialistic love is easily shown in the myth of Demeter and Persephone. The joy of Demeter s
eternal lifetime was her daughter, Persephone, whom she had borne to Zeus ( Rosenberg Demeter
94). After Persephone was taken away, Demeter became infuriated and even withdrew her life
sustaining powers,.. she broke the plows, killed oxen, and caused the earth to shrivel ( Rosenberg
Demeter 96). Seen from Demeter s reaction to the situation, the bond between mother and child was
very strong compared to that of the father. When Persephone returns, she takes comfort in her
mother rather than her father. Children usually took the mother s side and went against their father
s will. In the creation myth of the Greeks, there were two generations in which the mother wanted
to protect her children from the grasps of the father. Gaea was afraid of what Uranus would do to
their fearful children, and sought to protect them ( Rosenberg Creation 86). The wives of Cronus
and Uranus both schemed the overthrow of their husbands,

Finding Virtue and Vice in The Shawshank Redemption Essay
Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied, and vice sometimes by action dignified. That is a quote
by Shakespeare that could truly relate to the story in Shawshank Redemption. The main character
in this story is a prime example of a person who demonstrated virtue. After the murder of his wife,
Andy Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where the usual unpleasantness that one would expect
out of a prison occurs. Over the years, he retains hope and eventually gains the respect of his fellow
inmates, especially longtime convict Red Redding, who runs the black market inside if Shawshank
prison, and becomes influential within the prison. Eventually, Andrew achieves his end on his own
terms. While all of this was going on Andy Dufresne... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plan that he brings together is a representation of Andy Dufresne s prudence and having
such a virtue paid off for the protagonist of this story by the end. The start of this was as soon as
Andy began talking to Red. When Andy realized the connections that Red had he asked him for
rock pick because he was an amateur geologist before he was put into Shawshank. Andy claims
for the longest time that he is just using the rock pick to shape the different rocks that he finds
throughout his time at Shawshank prison. Meanwhile he is actually using the pick to escape
from prison. He admittedly told Red that it would take 50 years to escape through Shawshank
with the pick, so it really wasn t worth worrying about whether or not he would escape or not.
This whole thing shows how prudent Andy really was. He never told anyone of his plan and just
kept on going everyday. He covered everything up and disposed of all the extra stone and seemed
to have every facet of his operation covered. Nobody ever saw it coming and that was on purpose.
Even though Andy Dufresne was wrongfully accused, prison itself is a necessary part of society. It
is clearly a representation of Justice in the world. It puts those who commit crimes and it gives them
the punishment that is deserved. In the protagonist s case, he was innocent and wrongfully accused
so instead of the prison representing

Progressive Theory Of Progressive Education
Progressive Learning Theory in the US
John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational
philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that
reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring
instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in
the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is
essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as,
Progressive Education.
Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and
educator who first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also in 1917, the first standardized test is administered which would become one of the downfalls
of progressive education. In 1919, the Progressive Education association is founded which then
conducted an eight year study of progressive education methods beginning in 1929. The study
found that the 1500 students observed who attended progressive schools, performed as well, if not
better, at the college level than those that attended traditional schools (Kohn, 1999). Throughout
mid century 1900, progressive education saw a decline in both application and effectiveness.
Progressive pedagogy grew broader and more diffused, educators began to vary their application of
progressive principles. This made it more difficult to assess the performance of students and made
the methods of teaching more ambiguous. Other factors, such as the publication of Why Johnny
Can t Read (1955) and the launch of Sputnik (1957) increased criticisms of progressive education.
Why Johnny Can t Read brought to light that progressivism may be missing key components of
education causing children to be lacking in some areas. The launch of Sputnik made other countries
question US standings in education and we became more intellectually competitive, increasing the
use of standardized testing. The Great Society and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
(1963) and the No Child Left

Women in World War Two
Women in World War Two There was much more to women s work during World War Two than:

a war? In 1939 to 1945 for many women, World War II brought not only sacrifices, but also a

Timothy Mcveigh s Invictus
Timothy McVeigh was quoted the famous poem, Invictus, saying I am the master of my fate: I am
the captain of my soul . McVeigh believed in many things; one being that government was planning
to strip it s citizens of their rights. As McVeigh hatred for the government grew so did the outcome
of his actions. After the Waco Siegemassacre, which involved the accidental burning of an
isolated compound that took the lives of seventy six members of a religious cult in Texas,
McVeigh wrath against the government was boiling. It was at this time that McVeigh planned to
carry out one of the worst terrorist attacks ever on US soil. It is often told that in the last moments
of someone s life remorse and shame are visibly expressed on an individual s face; however, in the
execution of domestic terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, that was not the case. Timothy McVeigh was
raised the small working class town of Pendleton, New York. Since Pendleton was a small town,
McVeigh generally had very few things to do therefore he often spent his spare time at football
games, the bowling alley, or at a bingo event. Timothy was raised by his father during his
adolescence after his parents got a divorce after years of a rocky marriage (source 6). It was during
this time that Timothy formed a strong relationship with his grandfather, who first introduced him

Reflection Paper On Therapy
Self Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime.
We did a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session.
We switched roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as
Debby, so there will not be any confusion.
Impressions
I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it
helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity
to clarify any misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the
reason why Debby came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily

Comparing The Painting Dante And The Three Kingdoms
The painting Dante and the Three Kingdoms by Domenico di Michelino corresponds to the three
world of the Christian afterlife in Dante s Divine Comedy . Dante stands in red robed colossus in
front of the city of Florence. Behind him, the art shows the three worlds of Christian afterlife,
which are the heavenly paradise, hell, and Mount Purgatory, thereby revealing the celestial
spheres. The painting dates back to around 1465. On the left side, it shows the sinners getting
down to hell and souls appear being burnt by the hellfire. Dante says does as they walked inside
hell, he noticed famous people, who were great but still went to hell.
The first circle is limbo whereby those who never got baptized get punished. The second ring is

Each terrace symbolize a different kind of sin. One has to pass through all the levels to make
sure that the sins are cleansed so as to get to heaven. On top of Purgatory there is the moon,
which according to the artist, represents the heavenly paradise. I also, shows Adam and Eve in the
Garden of Eden, representing the earthly paradise. The seventh terrace is immediately at the top; it
faces flames and strong winds from below. The level represents the lustfulness. Some of the
sinners appear to move in the fire with the guilt of going against the marriage virtues, while others
are motionless, depicting the lust. The sixth terrace represents the gluttony the sin of overeating.
There is an apple tree in the center of the terrace and a steam that flows on top of the tree from the
mountain. The sinners appear starved due to the aroma of the apple, and they cannot help the scent
of the ripe apples and the wate. They have to feed on them only to make them hungrier.
The fifth terrace show people lying on the ground with their faces looking down. It shows that they
repenting from the sins of involving themselves in earthy things. Dante on his way felt the
trembling of Mount Purgatory, a sign of sinner being released from the burden of their sins, and
this brought about praising by everyone. This level represents the sin of extreme greed, and it is
believed to possess the worst punishment. On the

Pros And Cons Of Stereotyping
The topic pertaining to stereotypes and their kinship with human impulse has been an issue, as
well as a solution to society for a long time. A stereotype can be defined as a regular cognitive
process, usually automatic, that saves time and effort on making decisions about an individual
or group (Devine Monteith, 1999; Operario Fiske, 2001). Stereotyping gives insight about
human decision making abilities, as well as impulsive thoughts and ideas about groups and
people. In society they are seen as a problem, but the question is can we ever truly eliminate
them? The solution to such a question comes from researching to see if stereotypes are
hardwired into our brain as a first response or something that we have control over. Therefore,
can the primary impulse, which is stereotypical, be overcome, or is it out of our control?
Stereotyping is acquired throughout an individual s life by learning from society. This concept is
shown by the experiment of Bargh et al. (1996). Bargh created three groups, and had each of them
individually complete word puzzles. The first groups work puzzles had words that evoked rude
feelings, such as bother and disturb. The second group had a word puzzle with politeness such as
courtesy and behaved. The third group had neutral words in their puzzle. When they were finished
the puzzle, they were instructed to find the researcher. However, the researcher was intentionally in
a conversation, which he stayed in for ten minutes. The

Function Of The Heart And The Structure Of Arteries, Veins...
Explain the function of the heart and the structure of arteries, veins and capillaries.
Referring to Louise Tucker 5th edition, the heart is an organ that pumps blood through the body via
the circulatory system, supplying nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide
and other waste products.
According to Louise Tucker arteries are thick walled, hollow tubes with a fibrous outer covering, a
middle layer of muscle and elastic tissue.
The functions of arteries are:
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body
Transport nutrients e.g. iron, zinc
Main artery is the aorta
Structure:
Lumen, small passage
Thick, muscular and elastic walls
Veins have three layered walls, their walls are much thinner, not muscular or elastic and the lumen
is much larger compared to arteries. Veins have valves which prevents the back flow of blood.
Vein function:
Carry deoxygenated blood from the body
Transport blood to the heart
Deoxygenated blood contains a high concentration of waste products
Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels.
They have a thin wall
They are porous allowing oxygen to pass through
They allow the flow of gases and nutrients e.g. sodium, potassium
They have a large amount of water
Blood is brick red, it carries oxygen and carbon dioxide
Explain and label the cardiac cycle and include the flow of the blood through the main blood
vessels by using the diagram overleaf.

of urban development based on the extraction of natural materials. In fact, Burleton (2003) states
that the presence of a strong economy, highly educated workforce, and important reserves of
natural gas and oil have positioned the cities as desirable areas to live. Although Edmonton and
Calgary share similar characteristics such as a high level of total income, their differences may
show how social factors such as immigrant population, family characteristics, employed labour,
marital status, and age can affect the type of family that will reside in each of these cities. Through
looking to their statistical data, both Edmonton and Calgary present their median total income

Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel Analysis
This is a short essay on the Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel, located in Florence, Italy. It examines the
contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the
architect s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized
effect to his structures.
About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel
In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel
located in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with
enormous challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial
(Kleiner). Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and
Brunelleschi invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the
requisite masonry for the dome. The dome had in excess of 4 million bricks and it rested on a

Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders
of Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial
challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without
buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of
wood and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their
designs.
Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no
hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the
hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through
cranes of all types (Kleiner). All these means of hoisting owe their success to Brunelleschi s
discovery during the construction of the dome at Florence

Social Marketing
Henderson (2001) also adds that:
Embracing CSR would inevitably have consequences that would raise the cost of doing business,
could well reduce revenues, and might also cause companies to sponsor low yielding investment
which they would otherwise have turned down.
In addition, organizations really motivated to apply and absorb CSR as a core value in its
activities, would have to undergo a deep and internal change in its business operations and culture
(employees, suppliers, offices) which represents a costly task and a time consuming mission.

cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.585) describe it as the convergence of branding and Corporate
Social Responsibility .
Lou and Bhattacharya (2009) maintain that CSR creates a level of Moral Capital , which then
translates into Relational wealth with different stakeholders. This is based on brand faith and
credibility with costumers, affective commitment among employees and regulators, trust among
suppliers and higher attractiveness for investors in general. Consequently it is important for
organizations, to understand that CSR initiatives need to be communicated and transmitted to its
group of interest. As Blomqvist and Posner (2004 cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.584) propose:
Companies are losing out because there is often little or no integration between CSR and Marketing
departments and their respective strategies and unless CSR becomes central to the Marketing
director s agenda, it will not have the desired effect and can potentially create a backlash.
Lou and Bhattacharya (2009) also add that companies investing in these CSR initiatives can
develop market based intangible assets like Customer loyalty, which can then reduce uncertainty
about future profits of the firm.

From the data collected it can be concluded glucose and yeast is necessary in the production of ,
which agrees with the equation for glycolysis since glucoseis the sugar that supplies the energy and
yeastis the substance that performs the cycle. The higher concentration of yeast will result in more

The Age Determination Of Latent Prints
The amount of information that can be obtained through someone s hands is astounding. One can
determine the years of scarring from hard work, or the blisters from misuse. The most
information can be obtained at the very tips of fingers, and what they leave behind. Fingerprints
supply great evidence to help identify who was there, and possibly how many people were there.
However, the problem becomes that there are too many prints found at one scene. It is difficult to
try and determine when they were made based on physical appearance and common techniques.
Nowadays, the age determination of latent prints can be achieved with a new approach using the
sweaty residue of latent prints, and a small electrical charge. In 2011, a group from... Show more

In a laboratory setting, they set up multiple stations where they had placed two fingerprints from
the same people, at different times. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of
being left alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric
decay. They were then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson,
Prance, Beardsmore Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the
latent prints, which is mainly the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of
organic molecules, lipids, amino acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These
free ions act as an electrolyte solution, and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and
returned to the original source to complete the current. By measuring where the current is
completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of what the print would look like. The
scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction from the latent residue, but it
cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question. Although the scanner works
in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be addressed before it can be
applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be nonconductive. The main reason

However, situations still arise when knowing what is the right decision, or deciding between
alternatives is not always clear, or is in fact difficult; other situations may leave you with feelings
of uncertainty, distress or angst; a situation may occur where you know what is right to do but
you feel pressure not to do it; other situations may occur where there are differing opinions at the
table based upon the individuals beliefs and principles or you encounter a unique situation in
which standard practices do not apply; or you simply ask yourself what would my family, friends

are most important in the development of the self. Primary group: A small group characterized by
intimate face to face association and cooperation. Both parents are in the primary group due to
both always having face to face association. The father looks like he s in his late 20 s, appears to

I. Introduction
World War I was an epic war in the history of mankind. It is purportedly the sixth largest war in
human history. And in its eventuality nearly 32 countries were involved. (Townshend, 1997 ) Both
sides, the Allies and the Central Powers were fighting for power and world dominance, and both
were equally strong and populous. Moreover, military tactics were old following from Napoleonic
wars, whereas arms and equipment were innovated. Therefore, each side had to first learn the ways
of using these weapons and in their experiments with the weaponry in war killed thousands of
people with neither side being able to claim categorical victory.
The war carried on for nearly four year, and while it may not have been the longest war, its nature
was indecisive and had Germany not stopped and called for an armistice, there would have been
more fighting and killing.

Analysis Of Kenneth D Scott Jr.
Grenada, Senior Seminar Paper
Kenneth D Scott Jr.
SUNY Old Westbury
The specific group that is being studied is Grenadians, mainly Grenadian Americans. Unfortunately
due to its small size, there are not a lot of records of Grenadians immigrating to the US until
around 1950. During that time there was a huge influx of Grenadian women looking to start their
lives anew. Still then the number of Grenadians emigrating weren t as great in reference to the
other Caribbean countries. After the passing of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 (Hart
Celler Act), it increased the amount of people allowed to emigrate from Caribbean countries (Love
Andrews, 2003). Unlike some countries people leaving Grenada to live in America wasn t
necessarily for economic reasons. One of the main reasons is because of the communist views of
the government during the 70s and 80s. According to the U.S. Census Bureau American
Community Survey (ACS) 2006 2010, the total amount of Grenadian Americans in the US is
approximately 28,488. Most of the Grenadians in America are in New York at approximate 19,175.
Throughout America there are about 1,232 Grenadians in New Jersey, 1,203 in Maryland and 2,357
in Florida. Compared to the estimated 19 million New Yorkers, .1% of them are Grenadian. In
New York, most of the Grenadians live in Brooklyn. There are about 14,956 Grenadians in
Brooklyn and 1,509 in Queens. This leaves an estimated 2,710 that are either upstate NY or spread

Critical Understanding Of Turbofan Engines
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Turbofan engines are the family of jet engines being majorly employed on commercial aircrafts
these days. There are several reasons for this. This project aims at critical understanding of
Turbofan by adopting research methodology which also includes learning its limitations and
suggesting new ways to overcome the same.
As the name suggests, turbo refers to a gas turbine engine and the term fan refers to a ducted fan at
the start of the engine in order to increase the flow of the incoming air. Turbofancombines the high
efficiency of the propeller engines as well as the power obtained from jet engines. A typical
turbofan engine generally contains the fan, compressor (low and high pressure), combustion
chamber, turbine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially a turbofan engine is a turbojet with a fan at the front of the engine. This fan has not only
made the engine quieter but also more efficient. With increasing fuel rates and demand for
sustainable development ideas, turbofan has gained even more popularity due to its low fuel
consumption.
Unlike any other air breathing engine, it gives a high thrust with low fuel consumption. This
implies that its specific impulse which is the thrust to fuel consumption ratio is high.
The by pass air is the factor for all these achievements of turbofan. The major thrust production is
done by by pass air and the residual by the core.
This project will address the Trent 900 and its variants in depth with respect to the technology and
how a theoretical turbofan engine is applied practically and commercially.
2.0 ROLLS ROYCE TRENT 900
The British firm Rolls Royce gave birth to one of its most successful series of engines namely,
TRENT series.
This series of high by pass ratio engines have three spools and is in use on several Boeing and
Airbus aircrafts.
The TRENT 900 powered its first flight of the Airbus A380 in May 2004. It is an offspring of the
Rolls Royce RB211.
For the A380 it typically comes in two thrust ratings, 70,000 pounds or 310 KN and 72,000 pounds
or 320 KN. But it can achieve a thrust of 350KN.
The variants of this Trent family member are 970B 84, 972B 84, 997B 84 and 980 84.

Comparative essay between two poems namely, Half
Comparative essay between two poems namely, Half Caste by John
Agard and Unrelated Incidents by Tom Leonard.
John Agard and Unrelated Incidents by Tom Leonard.
You can clearly see before you begin to read these poems that they are set out differently to your
average poem. For example in Unrelated
Incidents that there are no more than four words per poem. The punctuation in Unrelated Incidents
is based on the phanetic way of spelling, this means that you spell the way speak and pronounce
words.
The poems is also meant to be spoken in a Glaswegian accent. In Half
Caste it s spelt and meant to be spoken in a Caribbean Patois.
In both poems they re defending the way that they are (The colour of his skin in Half Caste ... Show

He says he is interested in the political nature of voice in British culture .
The poem is carefully written in a phonetic version of the Glasgow accent. If you pronounce it
exactly as it s written, it should sound more or less like a Glaswegian voice. Tom Leonard has
played with language in a number of ways, apart from the phonetic spelling: there is almost no
punctuation, there are lots of slang and colloquial words like scruff and belt up , the newsreader
talks directly to the reader .
Tom Leonard is arguing that this is the way the media thinks about him. He believes that the
media see the viewers in Glasgow, or indeed the viewers in most other parts of Britain, as scruffs .
Which isn t fair and is a form of racism. The humour has a satirical edge, he uses humour to make
serious criticisms.
In the persona of the announcer he states that you wouldn t want him to give the news in any
other accent or dialect, because you wouldn t accept that it was true, a voice speaking in a
working class accent and using slang is given less credit and has less authority than a BBC voice.
Halfe Cast
I think that the gentleman writing this poem (in a rather strange vernacular I own) is somewhat
confused.
To my mind half caste refers to one born of two parents, one of a race where the predominant skin
colour is black and the other typically white European, or white

Underage Alcohol Abuse Essay
Underage Alcohol Abuse
The Story of My Search Have you been stealing liquor from your aunt ? my mother asked me
while we were in the car on our way home. Her face looked disappointed and worried when she
asked me. This is a question most teens would have feared if they heard it come out of their
parents mouth but i knew I didn t do it so I was fine. I never thought my mother would actually ask
me this question hence that fact that i am under the legal drinking age but, liquor was disappearing
from my aunts house and it is only right to have suspicion that the teenager did it. I didn t like
how they just suspected me of doing it just because i am a teenager. Now every time i go over my
aunts house they like to keep a closer eye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These books help start off my search into answering my question as to why people drink alcohol.
I then began to read more books focusing more on underage drinking. I wanted to learn more
about the effects of drinking on teens. What made teens want to drink? I then went on the web to
find answers to my questions. I found many answers that helped me understand more about why
underage drinking isn t such a good idea. I then interview my aunt Cori DuVall who was once a
underage drinker. She gave me many answers such as how it affected her, what the consequences
were, why she wish she never drank, and why she think teenagers shouldn t drink. By using the
books, internet, and interviewing my aunt I was able to find out more about the effects of underage
drinking and why it should be stopped.
The Results of my Search Drinking alcohol is like taking a drug. It is a worldwide problem. One
of the larger groups effected by alcohol is teenagers and young adults. According to the book
Alcohol Drinking to get drunk has become more common. Teenagers and young adults say they
drink for the buzz. As time progresses underage drinking becomes more relevant. Teens and young
adults drink for various reasons but don t think of the consequences or effects. Although alcohol
abuse causes long term and short term effects, young people still abuse it. Alcohol abuse causes
many short term effects. Injuries is one of them such as falls and accidents.

Study of Genes Found in Streptococcus Agalctiae
Streptococcus agalactiae is a known pathogen and is widely known as an important cause of
invasive disease in neonates. In this report the pathogenicity of this organism was investigates by
looking at the distribution of genes found in Streptococcus agalctiae which appear to play an
important role in the virulence of this pathogen. The distribution of these virulence genes was
investigated in Streptococcus agalactiae samples recovered from neonates who had experienced an
invasive disease and samples recovered from the vaginas of women who naturally have this
organism as a commensal.
The bacterial capsule which includes serotype specific antibodies has a critical role to play in the
virulence of this organism (Smith et al, 2006). The other virulence factors include;
The BCA gene which encodes for the alpha C protein, which is a virulence factor on the surface of
Streptococcus agalactiae. (Foxman et al, 2007).
The RIB gene which expresses a surface protein called RIB which is found in Streptococcus
agalactiae strains isolated from infections caused by the pathogen (Cabezon et al, 1996). . This
protein confers protective immunity, which classifies this protein as a virulence gene. It is
expressed by most strains causing life threatening infection, including almost all strains of serotype
III (Cabezon et al, 1996). The Rib protein is found to share several properties with the alpha
proteins. Both alpha and rib proteins are resistant to trypsin and vary greatly in size

  • 2. Bwoom Mask History The Bwoom mask is a historical African mask from the late 19th to early 20th century. It was made for the Kuba people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was made to look like a spirit. Depending on the version on myth, the Bwoom mask could either represent the king s younger brother, a prince, or a commoner. The Bwoom mask is a ceremonial mask although it does not appear at funerals. The Kuba tribe uses over 20 different types of masks. The most commonly produced item in the Kuba tribe are the wooden helmet masks. The Moshamwooy, Nady Amwaash and Bwoom masks are the most important of these. They represented significant people such as Woot (the founder of the ruling kingdom), Woot s wife, the King s younger brother and a prince. The Bwoom mask is made from wood and decorated by many different materials. These include cowrie shells, glass beads, fur, leather, cloth and seed pods. Human features on the mask seem to have been modified by shape and size. It has a bulging forehead, a curved chin and the nose appears fairly broad and triangular compared to those of a normal human being. This is supposed to give the feeling of being blind. The Bwoom mask was not believed to possess special powers to the man wearing it, although it was meant to manifest a spirit. How Does Jane Tompkins Conflict With The American Indians In the document, quot;Indians: Textualism, Morality, and The Problem of History, quot; Jane Tompkins examines the conflicts between the English settlers and the American Indians. After examining several primary sources, Tompkins found that different history books have different perspectives. It wasn t that the history books took different anglesthat was troubling, but the viewpoints contradicted one another. People who experience the same event told it through their reality. This becomes a problem when a person who didn t experience the effect wants to know what happened. Moving on to another contradictory perspective, Tompkins examines the perspective of Francis Jenning s The Invasion of America written in the late sixties. Jennings saw the European settlers to brutal animals, quot;the early settlers lied to the Indians, stole form them, murdered them, scalped them, captured them, tortured them, raped them, soled the into slavery, confiscated their land, destroyed their crops, burned their homes, scattered their possessions, gave them alcohol, undermined their systems of belief, and infected them with diseases that wiped out ninety percent of their numbers within the first hundred years after contact. quot; (206) Examining further Tompkins saw another change of perspectives in the seventies, caused by the American Indian Movement. Calvin Martin, author of Keepers of the Game saw the European settlement as an invasion of the Indian s spiritual relationship with the animals. Because of fur trade with the Europeans, the Indian s discontinued their spiritual ritual of worshipping the animal s carcass. When disease started spreading among the Indians, brought over by the Europeans, they thought it was because the spirits were angry with them. Martin refers to this time as a quot;holy war. quot; The pattern of contradictions continued with a series of essays called Indians, Animals, and the Fur Trade by Charles Hudson ... Costs and Benefits of Informal Care: Informal care contributes to society since it saves the American health care system money. Due to the unpaid family care that is provided by informal caregivers, less money is spent by Medicare or Medicaid. Informal care also helps society since it helps control the costs of total long term care. If informal caregivers did not provide their care, total long term costs would double since the value of informal care exceeds the costs of paid home care. The demands for informal care are also increasing due to the growth of the oldest old with chronic illnesses, more women finding jobs outside of the home, more complex families that include older relatives living with their adult children, and racial and class inequities. These households may not be able to afford total long term care and then have to rely on informal caregivers. However, these families then lack the knowledge they need and are unprepared when they are providing informal care. Essay about Zoot Suit Zoot Suit, a play written by Luis Valdez, depicts the racially charged trial of the Sleepy Lagoon Case of 1942 in which the courts charged a group of Pachucos with the murder of another Mexican American. During the 1940s, many Mexican Americans suffered widespread discrimination as dramatized in Zoot Suit. To combat such discrimination many Chicanoyouth wore stylized zoot suits, adorned with oversized jackets during fabric shortages as a form of social and political rebellion. Zoot Suiters felt disempowered by their position within society and used their fashion to send out a message and as a means to regain their masculinity. Restricting the Zoot Suitors from adjusting their appearances puts them at a disadvantage; instead of looking upright individuals, they are dirty urbanites. Similarly, El Pachuco intervenes again when the court asks that the suspects rise when their names were called in court. Both El Pachuco and the people s lawyer are infuriated by this proposal. Subjecting them to this treatment is not only self incriminating, but also groups the Zoot Suiters together and stereotypes them, rather than allowing each of them their own unique identity. When this is proposed El Pachuco says, ready for the verdict now ese? and begins to play the piano as the suspects stand and seat themselves. El Pachuco is sarcastic and attempts to make a mockery of the courtroom, having the Zoot Suiters discriminated against and degraded (Valdez). During World War 2 weaponry had to be upgraded and revised to fit every situation. The engineers of the war had to constantly develop new and better weaponry. Much like the engineers, the generals and officers were required to develop new ways of outsmarting their enemy. The Panzer II and the General Sherman were generally equivalent, and could both take on all other tanks. These tanks were the primary ground force for both Axis and Allied forces for about a year and a half. At this time the U.S. produced the Great Sherman tank, and simultaneously the Axis forces developed the Panzer III. The Great Sherman had reinforced 62mm armor. This tank also boasted a 75mm gun on a power turret. The Great Sherman was exceptionally maneuverable for its size, and could travel 25 mph, which was very fast for a heavy tank model. Conversely the Panzer III had 2 layer 30mm armor, and was a very maneuverable medium tank with heavy firepower. The Panzer III could easily defeat a Great Sherman in a close range battle, because of its rapid acceleration and fast moving turret. The Panzer III was good, but soon the ally forces had to create a better tank. Nearing the end of the war Ally forces finally fashioned a tank superior to the Panzer III. This tank boasted a 30mm turret gun, and a 75mm gun mounted on the hull; this tank was named the Grant Tank. It could go through all other tanks like butter (Collier 90). This tank was so successful because of its extremely thick reinforced steel plate. Though these tanks ruled the ground, the water was another story. This patriarchal love for control in turn leads to a discord of the family, especially between the child and father. This materialistic love is easily shown in the myth of Demeter and Persephone. The joy of Demeter s eternal lifetime was her daughter, Persephone, whom she had borne to Zeus ( Rosenberg Demeter 94). The plan that he brings together is a representation of Andy Dufresne s prudence and having such a virtue paid off for the protagonist of this story by the end. The start of this was as soon as Andy began talking to Red. Andy claims for the longest time that he is just using the rock pick to shape the different rocks that he finds throughout his time at Shawshank prison. Meanwhile he is actually using the pick to escape from prison. He admittedly told Red that it would take 50 years to escape through Shawshank with the pick, so it really wasn t worth worrying about whether or not he would escape or not. This whole thing shows how prudent Andy really was. He never told anyone of his plan and just kept on going everyday. He covered everything up and disposed of all the extra stone and seemed to have every facet of his operation covered. Nobody ever saw it coming and that was on purpose. Even though Andy Dufresne was wrongfully accused, prison itself is a necessary part of society. It is clearly a representation of Justice in the world. It puts those who commit crimes and it gives them the punishment that is deserved. In the protagonist s case, he was innocent and wrongfully accused so instead of the prison representing ... Other factors, such as the publication of Why Johnny Can t Read (1955) and the launch of Sputnik (1957) increased criticisms of progressive education. • 21. Pros And Cons Of Stereotyping The topic pertaining to stereotypes and their kinship with human impulse has been an issue, as well as a solution to society for a long time. A stereotype can be defined as a regular cognitive process, usually automatic, that saves time and effort on making decisions about an individual or group (Devine Monteith, 1999; Operario Fiske, 2001). Stereotyping gives insight about human decision making abilities, as well as impulsive thoughts and ideas about groups and people. In society they are seen as a problem, but the question is can we ever truly eliminate them? The solution to such a question comes from researching to see if stereotypes are hardwired into our brain as a first response or something that we have control over. Therefore, can the primary impulse, which is stereotypical, be overcome, or is it out of our control? Stereotyping is acquired throughout an individual s life by learning from society. This concept is shown by the experiment of Bargh et al. (1996). Bargh created three groups, and had each of them individually complete word puzzles. • 25. Function Of The Heart And The Structure Of Arteries, Veins... Explain the function of the heart and the structure of arteries, veins and capillaries. Referring to Louise Tucker 5th edition, the heart is an organ that pumps blood through the body via the circulatory system, supplying nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide and other waste products. According to Louise Tucker arteries are thick walled, hollow tubes with a fibrous outer covering, a middle layer of muscle and elastic tissue. The functions of arteries are: Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body Transport nutrients e.g. iron, zinc Main artery is the aorta Structure: Lumen, small passage Thick, muscular and elastic walls Veins have three layered walls, their walls are much thinner, not muscular or elastic and the lumen is much larger compared to arteries. Veins have valves which prevents the back flow of blood. Vein function: Carry deoxygenated blood from the body Transport blood to the heart Deoxygenated blood contains a high concentration of waste products Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels. They have a thin wall They are porous allowing oxygen to pass through They allow the flow of gases and nutrients e.g. sodium, potassium They have a large amount of water Blood is brick red, it carries oxygen and carbon dioxide Explain and label the cardiac cycle and include the flow of the blood through the main blood vessels by using the diagram overleaf. It examines the contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the architect s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized effect to his structures. About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel located in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with enormous challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial (Kleiner). Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and Brunelleschi invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the requisite masonry for the dome. Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders of Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of wood and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their designs. Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through cranes of all types (Kleiner). This is based on brand faith and credibility with costumers, affective commitment among employees and regulators, trust among suppliers and higher attractiveness for investors in general. Consequently it is important for organizations, to understand that CSR initiatives need to be communicated and transmitted to its group of interest. As Blomqvist and Posner (2004 cited in Comfort et al. 2007, pp.584) propose: Companies are losing out because there is often little or no integration between CSR and Marketing departments and their respective strategies and unless CSR becomes central to the Marketing director s agenda, it will not have the desired effect and can potentially create a backlash. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of being left alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric decay. They were then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson, Prance, Beardsmore Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the latent prints, which is mainly the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of organic molecules, lipids, amino acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These free ions act as an electrolyte solution, and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and returned to the original source to complete the current. By measuring where the current is completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of what the print would look like. The scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction from the latent residue, but it cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question. Although the scanner works in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be addressed before it can be applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be nonconductive. The main reason for a nonconductive surface is that the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several reasons for this. This project aims at critical understanding of Turbofan by adopting research methodology which also includes learning its limitations and suggesting new ways to overcome the same. As the name suggests, turbo refers to a gas turbine engine and the term fan refers to a ducted fan at the start of the engine in order to increase the flow of the incoming air. Turbofancombines the high efficiency of the propeller engines as well as the power obtained from jet engines. A typical turbofan engine generally contains the fan, compressor (low and high pressure), combustion chamber, turbine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially a turbofan engine is a turbojet with a fan at the front of the engine. This fan has not only made the engine quieter but also more efficient. With increasing fuel rates and demand for sustainable development ideas, turbofan has gained even more popularity due to its low fuel consumption. Unlike any other air breathing engine, it gives a high thrust with low fuel consumption. This implies that its specific impulse which is the thrust to fuel consumption ratio is high. The by pass air is the factor for all these achievements of turbofan. The major thrust production is done by by pass air and the residual by the core. This project will address the Trent 900 and its variants in depth with respect to the technology and how a theoretical turbofan engine is applied practically and commercially. 2.0 ROLLS ROYCE TRENT 900 The British firm Rolls Royce gave birth to one of its most successful series of engines namely, TRENT series. • 46. Study of Genes Found in Streptococcus Agalctiae Streptococcus agalactiae is a known pathogen and is widely known as an important cause of invasive disease in neonates. In this report the pathogenicity of this organism was investigates by looking at the distribution of genes found in Streptococcus agalctiae which appear to play an important role in the virulence of this pathogen. The distribution of these virulence genes was investigated in Streptococcus agalactiae samples recovered from neonates who had experienced an invasive disease and samples recovered from the vaginas of women who naturally have this organism as a commensal. The bacterial capsule which includes serotype specific antibodies has a critical role to play in the virulence of this organism (Smith et al, 2006). The other virulence factors include; The BCA gene which encodes for the alpha C protein, which is a virulence factor on the surface of Streptococcus agalactiae. (Foxman et al, 2007). The RIB gene which expresses a surface protein called RIB which is found in Streptococcus agalactiae strains isolated from infections caused by the pathogen (Cabezon et al, 1996). . This protein confers protective immunity, which classifies this protein as a virulence gene. It is expressed by most strains causing life threatening infection, including almost all strains of serotype III (Cabezon et al, 1996). The Rib protein is found to share several properties with the alpha proteins. Both alpha and rib proteins are resistant to trypsin and vary greatly in size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
