AR-15 Myths
After the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the AR 15, allegedly used by the shooter,
has become one of the most feared and hated guns available. However, this Louder With
Crowder video proves many of the myths commonly believed about this to be false. Top AR 15
Myths You Should Stop Believing 1. AR 15s Are The Most Dangerous Guns on the Market:
Crowder says there are plenty of other rifles that are semi automatics and are more effective at
killing than the AR 15s. These other rifles can carry just as much ammo and their ammunition is
just as powerful or more so than an AR 15s. Semi automatic shotguns, commonly used for deer
hunting, are also just as dangerous. The Glock 17, which is often carried by law enforcement

Ancient Roman Architecture
The building borrowed from mainly large scale ancient Roman buildings. One of the most
principle design was the longitudinal axis as the building now had the focus of attention to the
opposite end to the entrance. This was because it was a church thus that design enabled number
of people to gather for the liturgy with an inward focus on the altar. Another principle design is
the series of arches/pillars on both sides, that are continuous throughout the side of the church.
The purpose of that is to again lead your eyes into the critical point of the church, the altar. Note
that the pillars are in corinthian style. Another notable design is the wooden door in the entrance
which it has carved imageries of scenes from the Bible, basically a frieze but on wood. There is
also, inside the church one aisle on each side behind the arches/pillars, and the central naive
which has a wide open space. Also opposite of the church there is the altar which is in a semi
circular space. Above the altar there is a beautiful painting, probably a frieze, above the altar which
is highly polychromed, even using rare colors like blue. Another notable feature was the use of
clerestory which lit the church with sunlight softly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the use of the clerestory was an adaption from Rome but went as far back as to Ancient
Egypt. Mostly the frescoes and even the pillars being made of marble is an adaptation from the
Romans. The arches/pillar system is meant to focus the attention toward the altar, for obvious
reasons. This also includes the longitudinal axis trying to pull your attention toward the pillar. The
sanctuary screen was also there to separate the main altar area and the nave. Also the aisles on
both side and the wide nave was there so that large amount of people can move into the church
easily. Also frescos and images of christian related things in the church also laid down the needs for

Irene Gut Opdyk Sacrifice
Nomination For Irene Gut Opdyke For Courage to Care Award
The Courage to Care award deserves to go to Irene Gut Opdyke because of her heroic
characteristics which were brave, self sacrificing, and good hearted. These qualities allowed her to
contribute heroic actions. Irene did this during the most terrifying time for most people. The
Holocaust was period time where 6 million European Jews, as well as gypsies and homosexuals
were killed by the German Nazi regime. The Nazi s became of power in the month of January
1933. The hate for the jews came from the idea that the jews were inferior where as the Germans
were racially superior, also that jews were alien to the so called racial community of the Germans.
Anyone who helped the jews, gypsies, or homosexuals escape from the Nazi s, would risk their
lives because it was seen as you betrayed your country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women during this time were expected to be homemakers and mothers, so the bravery and
strength she had the courage to build was undeniably honorable. Knowing she could have been
captured and killed for her actions, but still continued to help the jews was incredible. Another
action that showed her bravery was when Irena was 25 years old and heard the Gestapo was
about to sweep through a local Jewish ghetto in Poland, this gave her time to hide her 12 Jewish

Trust And Legitimacy In Law Enforcement
Pillar one references to building a bridge which joins the community and law enforcement together.
Building trust and legitimacy between police and citizen play a fundamental role in the law
enforcement agencies as well as the communities they serve. Many studies have shown and proven
that people/citizens will uphold the law/s of the country when the ones who have the authority to
enforce the law are proven to be legitimate. Law enforcementofficer will not gain the trust of the
people/ community if they are view as controlling and corrupted. The community on a whole wish

In order to install a stable baseline for law enforcement agencies in this field, the U.S. DOJ
(Department of Justice) should establish national standards for the research and development of
new technology including auditory, visual, and biometric data, less than lethal technology, and the
development of segregated radio spectrum such as FirstNet. These standards should also address
compatibility, interoperability, and implementation needs both within local law enforcement
agencies and across agencies and jurisdictions and should maintain civil and human rights
protections. Law enforcement implementation of technology should be designed considering local

A Brief Note On The Pollution Control Programme
1.1.1Extra fuel consumption
Due to traffic jam, extra fuel consumption is a big problem for a developing country like India.
The government is buying this extra amount of fuel with hard cash. This is considered a national
loss.
1.1.2Vehicle operating cost
Vehicle operating cost is directly proportionate to the traffic jam. A vehicleoperator applies more
breaks and accelerates again and again. So, the lifetime of vehicle parts and fuel consumption will
be more in road jams. Traffic jam actually increases VOC. Figure 8: Mapping of congestion cost

Samalkha town up to great extent. In order to provide training to drivers of motor vehicles, four
Institutes of Driving Training and Traffic Research (IDTRs) are being established in the districts of
the State such as Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Bhiwani, Kaithal with a total budget of about 100 Crore

The Count Of Monte Cristo Love Essay
Charles de Gaulle once said Love is the strongest force in the world. de Gaulle s sentiment about
love s power holds true. In The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, love is the most
powerful driving force. During this romantic novel, a man named Edmond DantГ©s gets falsely
imprisoned for fourteen years. When he escapes as a rich man, he swears revenge on his enemies,
but in the end, loveprevents him from enacting several of his vengeful plans. A moral in The Count
of Monte Cristois that love is the strongest power in the world because it can stop revenge in its
tracks and cause great joy.

take the place of hatred and anger. It can place happiness in the hearts of the most morose. Love

like this in 1844, when the novel was published, and it is still like this in 2017. One moral in The

Analysis Of Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing, A 1987 romantic based story movie, depicted the love story between Frances
Baby Houseman, performed by Kaleigh Courts, and her dance instructor Johnny Castle,
performed by Aaron Patrick Craven. It has been well loved for generations world widely.
Eleanor Bergstein, the writer of this film responded that the plot of this film was partially based
on her childhood. Eleanor had a nickname Baby which is as same as the name of the female
protagonist in her film. Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story On Stage is a live musical performance
form of the original film. To me, what made it more engaging than the movie is that it combines
real life story and dancemovements together to express that idea that dances come from life, and
life flows like a musical performance. There are beginnings, climax and ending, ups and downs,
peace and vitality. Due to the fact that Dirty Dancing was in a narrative form, it was more of a
challenge to the dancers to not only present themselves as dancers but also to put themselves into
the characters shoes, acting out the personalities which might be completely opposite of their own.
The opening scene of the performance caught my attention immediately. It was set up in two parts.
One of which was having the protagonist, Baby, sitting in the corner in the front stage, packing up
her suitcase and preparing to go on a vacation with her family. There were three pairs of performers
dancing behind a screen which projected the shadow of their

Roman Architecture
University of the People Greek and Roman Civilization Assignment, Unit 7 Roman architecture,
even more than the rest of Roman art, reflected the practical character, restless energy and
organizational mindset of its creators. As the Roman Empire expanded to engulf not only the
Mediterranean region but also large areas of Western Europe. The Arch Arch The arch consists
of two supports, called piers, each topped by a platform called an impost. Angled blocks of brick
or stone, called voussoirs . These are placed on the imposts in an arched, curved pattern that is
capped by the central block of the arch called the keystone. A row of arches is called an arcade.
Arches allowed the Romans to create wider, taller, and lighter structures. They also learned that
they if they built arches entirely inside the walls of their buildings that this would make the walls
even stronger. The Romans were the first to use the form of the arch to create monuments that
commemorated victories in war. These monuments, known as triumphal arches, were an ornamental

Roman mortar or cement, called caementa [see ment a], created by mixing water, lime, and a

Roman concrete [opus caementicium] was created by first building a form and then pouring in
alternating layers of the Roman caementa and layers of rocks, bricks, or gravels. As each layer
of rocks, bricks, or gravels was poured in and spread around, Roman workers would then pound

Bombing Of Nagasaki Essay
On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan killing 70,000
people. The atomic bomb was directly responsible for the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
treaty of 1970. Although the bombing of Nagasaki was purely devastating, the United States
Government claims the bomb was not inhumane but the Japanese government disagrees even
though in reality the citizens were the most greatly affected.
The United States Government and military refer to the use of the atomic bomb as valid and
with reason but this is most likely a way to clear their heat from the devastating bombing of
Nagasaki. Frederick Olivi, the third Bockscar pilot, described the nuclear fireball as being
brighter than one thousand suns ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). At the time he was
approximately seven miles from the ground zero ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). Olivi
much like the other men piloting the Bockscar expected the bomb to be a dud. To their surprise
it wasn t and he talked about the sheer terror he experienced (Earns). Olivi claims he was deeply
filled with regret; however, if he needed to drop the bomb again he would (Earns). However, the

Compare And Contrast Roots And The Life Of Frederick Douglass
Imagine being stuck in chains for six months in your own filth and waste. For some slaves on
the middle passage it was exactly like that. This, however, was different than slaves born into
slavery, for they didn t have to go through that harsh journey. Both were common to try and
escape, few making it. Making the outcomes of Frederick Douglass, who wrote an
autobiography, and Kunta Kinte, from the movie Roots, different. While Roots and the
narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass have some similarities, the differences of their origins
and outcomes are more significant because that s what shaped them who they are. One
difference of the book and movie is how they started out becoming a slave. Kunta was a normal
boy, just becoming a man in his tribe, when he was taken prisoner. Frederick s mom was a slave
so he was just born into it, skipping the terrible middle passage. Kunta had it real hard on his
journey and even a man died right next to him. They tried to break free and almost succeeded

Commerce Purpose Statement Of Purpose
Statement of Purpose
International trade has helped business in capturing market potential and growing internationally.
Today no country operates its trade independently and this reason itself has reduced importance of
geographical boundaries and made trade associations like WTO, IMF etc. more significant. The
duration of my Bachelors in Commerce has cultivated deep interest in me towards understanding
dynamics of International trade and using it as a tool to add value to business.
Engaging in managerial activities and having an upper edge in statistical and accounting
computations since my high school evolved my interest in the field of Commerce. This led me to
pursue Bachelor of Commerce as my undergraduate level of study. With subjects like Management
accounting, Auditing, Fundamentals of Financial management and many more (related to
business) in my undergraduate curriculum, I developed a better understanding for this course. With
my dedication and hard work, I have always maintained around 1st class throughout all semester
with 6.08 overall CGPA. I also got to learn the concepts of Human Resource Management,
Marketing management, Production Management and soon realized my inclination towards
subjects relating to this field of study.

The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay
The Effects of Advertising on Society
Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral
values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be
quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There
are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring
about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of
desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with
the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ...

Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the
advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the
product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don
t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more
and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a
sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people
sold on the product, they can influence people s desires.
This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values.
Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become
more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and
of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or
actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against
the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein
products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable
role in the moral growth or stunting

Identify And Explain The Difference Between Voluntary And...
Every day, our body naturally responds to environmental stimuli by one of two mechanisms, a
voluntary reaction or an involuntary reflex. The nerves and muscles work together to respond to a
change in the body s environment, both internal and external, with the intent of maintaining a
homeostatic state. Common reflexes include slipping and righting oneself, as well as immediately
and naturally withdrawing a body part that made contact with a hot object. A reflex typically occurs
prior to the brainfully processing the information regarding the stimulus. Conversely, a voluntary
action is controllable and learned by experience (G). The most wellВknown learned response is
Pavlov s dogs, who were shown to salivate at the ring of a bell because it signaled food was coming.
Both voluntary and involuntary responses go through neural pathways beginning with a receptor
that receives a stimulus from the environment. This stimulus elicits an action potential, which carries

Many factors, including receptor function, neuron stimulation, length/complexity of neuronal
pathway, difference between sensory/motor neuron conduction velocities and synaptic
transmission, influence the reaction time. Of utmost importance is the synaptic transmission,
which refers to how presynaptic cells communicate with postsynaptic cells by releasing
neurotransmitters which, when collected at the postsynaptic cells receptors, work to engage a
response. This process has the potential to be altered for any duration of time by either improving
or impairing its potential. Postsynaptic neurons receive both excitatory and inhibitory inputs, which
have the capability to increase or decrease the likelihood of the nerve firing an action potential.
Both types of input are being applied to the receptor at all times while

Installing A Office Surveillance System
Due to the rapid advancement in technology especially in the security industry, there is a huge
surge in the numbers of company surveillance of the employees and different ways of
supervision have been established. Many companies have installed security cameras in the
workplace and have access to the browsing history and emails of workers. However, there has
been an uproar among the workers lately as they are more exposed to social media and news
from different places. More and more cases of employers overextending their power and control
of workers private lives can be seen all over the United States. For example, according to the
president of Teamsters Local 804, Tim Sylvester, the metrics based assault of workers is not
anything strange (Bruder, 2015). Indeed, it is not beneficial to a company to install office
surveillancesystem because it raises privacyconcerns among the workers, causes mistrust between
employees and employers, and reduces organizational commitment. It is argued by some that
installing surveillance system in the workplace is advantageous to the company because the
companies need to protect their company assets and trade secrets. This is because electronic
surveillance prevents any intrusion, hacking or negative attempts to their computer systems.
Indeed, Ball (2010) contends that they want to protect corporate interests and trade secrets. Email,
Internet monitoring and information access control are all deployed against risks of defamation,

The Career Of A Professional Workplace
A professional workplace is an environment that produces numerous challenging situations and if
not handled correctly, could create a very unproductive organization. A well qualified employee is
selected to be responsible for controlling all or part of a company, including difficult situations
that arise between co workers. The term given to this worker is a manager; their main task in the
organization is to get things done through the efforts of other people. This may sound like a rather
simple task, but it is very deep and layered with different difficulties. Henry Mintzberg, an
internationally renowned author on business and management, broke down the tasks a manager
faces into ten different interrelated roles. According to Mintzberg s managerial roles, there are
three categories that break up the ten roles a manager performs: Interpersonal, Informational, and
Decisional. Interpersonal encompasses figurehead, leader, and liaison. Informational includes
monitor, disseminator, and spokesperson. Finally, Decisional covers entrepreneur, disturbance
handler, resource allocator, and negotiator. It is clear that being a manager is a demanding job
and it is not for the easily overwhelmed individual. There are numerous different research projects
that have been performed in hopes to discover a new way for managers to be more effective and
successful in their day to day activities. A remarkable amount of research supports that five basic
dimensions underlie most personality

The Adherence Of Taking Antiretroviral
The adherence in the consumption of taking Antiretroviral (ARV) medication in adolescents and
young adults with HIV/AIDS are often disturbed by different factors. Studies suggest that
adolescents respond poorly to highly active antiviral therapy. (Nachega et al., 2009). Factors such as
daily routine, personal mental health, negligence, and understanding of the illness shall be
addressed. Alongside the assistance of research on this topic, this essay will outline the elements
that affect the adherence to ARV treatment in young adults with HIV/AIDS.
The treatment of ARV medication in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS is one that is the
most commonly used. The goal of the ARV therapy (ART) is to constantly suppress the replication
of HIV cells in the body, in order for the person to live a maintainable healthy life. An adolescent is
a person who is in the current development from a child to an adult. In this stage of development
adolescents are described as being in a stage of mental, physical, and emotional maturation. Some
problems they are faced with are; risk taking, an increased amount of sexual relationships,
recreational drug use, alcohol, behavioral experimentation and identity formation. (Kim, Gerver,
Fidler, Ward, 2014). Thus adolescents are by nature still finding their feet and still developing their
maturity, this increases the influence of external factors that affects their ART and therefore
increases the adherence in the consumption of their ARV s.

Effects Of Thalidomide
Introduction:
In 1957 a German pharmaceutical company, Chemie Grunenthal produced the drug Thalidomide,
that would impact the life of more than 10,000 babies worldwide. Originally this drug was
produced and marketed as a sedative that was thought to be nearly impossible to over dose on. It
was a cheap over the counter drug that was marketed to pregnant women because of its
effectiveness of combating morning sickness. Over time this drug became very common
throughout Europe, Oceanic Regions, and even Africa. However, this drug had little testing behind
it resulting in huge implications. Originally, this drug was tested on lab rats for its sedative
purposes, but it was never tested on pregnant rats. Subsequently, many children were born with ...

Moreover, Thalidomide can also be used to lessen the effects of leprosy and help in cancers.
Although, Thalidomide can be an effective treatment for these diseases, we cannot turn a blind
eye to the fact that a major disaster occurred because of the use of Thalidomide. Additionally, we
can use this past disaster to shape the way we test drugs today. This drug was a great example of a
product that had little testing and huge consequences. Now we know how important testing is for

My Family Road Trip
Family Road Trip It was a hot summer day. You could see the heat rise up from the road. The sun
scorched the the sidewalk so intensely I could have fried an egg on it. We had just gotten done
loading our luggage in the van. I grabbed my phone and headed for the door. We were ready to
go to the airport. We had been planning on our trip to California for days. Everyone would not
shut up about seeing our relatives. I just couldn t wait to leave this dreadful, miserable, boring
place called Sedalia. We went to get some gas because it was like a 3 hour drive. When we
stopped my mom was the only one who got out because she didn t want to deal with annoying
brats, my sisters. So I was stuck with them, alone, by myself, in a car. It sounded like there was a
zoo behind me and the monkeys just got loose. Other people were looking at our car and in their
face there was horror. My mom finally gets back and we start to drive. Sense we re going out of
state on an airplane, we couldn t take our car with us. So we went to go pick up my mom s
husband from work. He wasn t going to california with us so he could take the car. We pick him
up, he chucks his lunch box to the middle, and he takes the wheel. We start driving, again. I ve
never really liked my mom s husband, he s always hated me and one of my sisters because we
aren t his. I really don t like anyone I live with. My mom loses things like our birth certificate, her
driver s license, even her bills. I m so over it. My sisters, my sisters are little spoiled crybabies.
When i was there age, I was hit so many times that the buckle of a belt feels like a pinch. I cried
when I got kicked on the side. They cry if someone raises their voice at them the slightest bit. I m
the smartest person in the house, so I m constantly angry because everyone comes to me when
they need help. I help with things like homework, I translate for my mom and her husband, I
never had help. I ve always been on my own, if I need help with something like homework, well
that s too bad because if I don t know something they definitely won t. This road trip is hell, my
sisters don t shut up, my mom is reading the bible out loud, my mom s husband has mexican music
on blast, and I m just quietly suffering.

Cuban Immigration Policy
My initial reaction is shock, I had no idea about the Cuban immigration policy. Irritation sets in at
the injustice of it, immigrants of all races leave their countries to pursue better lives. The process
that any immigrant is subjected too should be equal to Cubans as well, equal opportunity for entry
is fair. However, this policy allows Cubans to bypass the entire process, regardless of race its unfair
to allow one race and not the other. By granting automatic legal amnesty within hours of them
entering the U.S. can lead to resentment from other races. Segregated immigrationis an issue that
affects the general public of the U.S., but its not discussed. Why?
Central Americans are becoming more aware of their situation when immigrating to a new country.

In 2014 central immigration spiked due to hostile environments in their country. Seeking refugee,
they came to the U.S. Land of the free . Only to be questioned, not admitted, and finding more
problems then they left their own country with. Why is the government favoring a race for entry
to the country? The problem is Cubans have the luxury of walking in to the U.S. while central
Americans can only dream. Citizens of Central America have compromised safety issues, if you
don t feel safe in your own home, and you would rather leave all you have ever known, that s a
real problem. Cubans influence immigration as an idea for central Americans, hope. It trickles
down Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, all the way to panama. Everywhere in between

Empirical Formula Of Zinc Iodide Lab Report
Introduction: The main purpose of this experiment is to determine the empirical formula of zinc
iodide, and in addition, validate the law of conservation of mass by precisely determining the
quantities of reactants and products. Empirical formula is the simplest type of chemical formula.
The simplest ratio of the number of atoms of each element in the compound is determined by the
empirical formal of a compound. Typically the ratio provided by the empirical formula contains
whole numbers. On the other hand, there are molecular formulas in which gives the definite
number of atoms of the element. Glucose (sugar) has a molecular formula of C6H12O6 and an
empirical formula of CH2 O. Finding the mass of each of the elements... Show more content on

Next, a glass stirring rod was used periodically in which dissolved the iodine. It continued to boil
for about twenty minutes and at this point in the boiling process the dark brown color of the

the base of the flask. The reaction was then completed and the flask was removed from the hot

Miley Cyrus s Influence On The Media Essay
Through Miley Cyrus s years on her hit sitcom her brand identity and start text were made. Her
original star text was known a young sweet innocent teenage girl that believed in love. As Miley
and her audience matured she began to revolutionize her image by creating herself a new star text

The Factors Associated With Youth Homelessness And Arrest,...
Poverty has long been a consistent characteristic in crime. Numerous theories like Social
Disorganization, Labeling Theory, and Strain Theory have been created to try to explain the
connection between poverty and crime. As these theories demonstrate , the devastating external
factors that poverty causes contribute to crime. Yet, the connection between povertyand crime
continues to deliver new data, adding to the way criminologist analyze crime. These studies
develop new methods including governmental programs , investments in certain areas or change in
tax codes for tackling poverty emerge. Therefore, it is pivotal to continue studying the connection
between poverty and crime to properly a large of factor of crime from its roots.
The article Exploring the Factors Associated With Youth Homelessnessand Arrest, by Kim Fielding

around 150,000 Canadians are homeless, with around one third of those being juveniles. The article
focuses on juveniles because of their fragile age and their lack of stable environment makes them
prone to commit crimes in order to obtain basic necessities. The study includes interviews, surveys,
and demographics to characterize the homeless participants in order to provide an understanding of
their homeless situation.

Iola Leroy Little Women
On their surfaces, Little Women and Iola Leroy share as many similarities as they do differences.
Both are set during and after the American Civil War, and both detail the lives of women, though
the circumstances of the heroines could scarcely be more different. Little Women s Jo March
belongs to a poor but comfortable white, northern family sympathetic to the Union cause. Iola
Leroy, on the other hand, endures a tumultuous life that takes her from a plantation owner s
daughter, to a slave, to an activist for racial justice. However, despite the obvious dissimilarities, the
texts share several important qualities. Each text espouses a clear moral directive: Little Women

Jo also refuses to marry Laurie because she does not truly love him. Of course, it would be
difficult to argue that Jo s marriage to Laurie would be as disharmonious with the text s moral
stance as Amy s intended betrothal to Fred Vaughn indeed, it is probable that many readers
would have preferred it over Jo s marriage to Mr. Bhaer. Jo s affection for Laurie is not
predicated on his wealth, and it must be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However,
while we can say that Laurie does not contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him
would do little to advance it, particularly if the reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that
Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. Mr. Bhaer, by contrast, aids in Jo s moral
development. He dissuades her from writing sensation stories, likening their publication to the sale
of alcohol with the argument that there is a demand for whisky, but I think you and I do not care to
sell it. (Alcott 280) When Jo protests that authors of sensation stories are trying to make an honest
wage, Mr. Bhaer contends that if the authors, knew what harm they did, they would not feel that the
living was honest, (Alcott 280) reiterating the novel s underlying moral directive that wealth should
never be a cause to sacrifice morality, dignity, or happiness. Jo and Mr. Bhaer s marriage signifies
Jo s ultimate acceptance of the lesson her mother set out to teach her, and both their sons and the
students at their school guarantee that the morally improved society resulting from their betrothal

Resolving Two Alternative Dispute Resolution
This paper is to critically discuss two alternative dispute resolution processes, which are the
negotiation and mediation. The importance of these two alternative dispute resolution processes is
mainly related to various noticeable benefits associated comparing to the traditional litigation
process (Ruh, 2015). Specifically, it is to discuss the different strategies for negotiation, which can
be applicable to the dispute between Johnny, Sally, and David. Thus, David is to be advised of the
most effective and efficient negotiation strategy he should use based on the comparison between
different negotiation strategies in terms of respective benefits and drawbacks. In addition, it is also
to advise David, Johnny, and Sally regarding the benefits and costs of using a mediator, in the
context of the dispute between them.
Negotiation is one of the commonly used alternative dispute resolution processes, where different
strategies can be implemented. Brett (2015) states that the determining goals would be a direct
factor to determine which strategy to be used. This means that the disputed parties should take into
account of the relative importance of substantive outcomes and relational outcomes in order to
determine whether the collaborative, accommodating, competitive, or avoidance strategy should be
implemented in order to help them achieve their goals (Brett, 2015). Therefore, each of the
strategies is not suitable to David s circumstance really depends on the particular goals

Female Viagra May Get Approved by FDA This Week Flibanserin, a drug designed to increase
libido in women also known as female Viagra , could be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration this week. FDA approval of the female Viagra would be unprecedented, as no
such drug has ever been approved before. WHAT IS FLIBANSERIN? Unlike Viagra, flibanserin
aims to raise libido by targeting the female brain s pleasure center instead of the genitals.
Proponents of the cite the lack of a female equivalent to Viagra. Unlike men, there is no drug on

A Synopsis of Accounting for Business Combinations
A SYNOPSIS OF ACCOUNTING FOR BUSINESS COMBINATIONS,
INTANGIBLES AND GOODWILL IMPAIRMENT
INTRODUCTION
During the 1980 s and 1990 s a great number of business mergers and acquisitions took place. The
generally accepted accounting principles to record the initial transaction and to account for the
acquired assets during their estimated useful lives this were well established.
Over time however, users of financial statements began to question whether those principles and
practices accurately reflected the market realities regarding the assets, their useful lives and their
contribution to a company s value. In addition, intangible assets have become increasingly more
important as an economic resource.
It was apparent that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SFAS 141 is based on the proposition that all business combinations are essentially acquisitions, and
thus all business combinations should be accounted for in a consistent manner with other asset
acquisitions.
FAS 141 begins with the declaration that the accounting for a business combination follows the
concepts normally applicable to the initial recognition and measurement of assets acquired,
liabilities assumed or incurred...as well as to the subsequent accounting for those items.
A business combination occurs when an entity acquires net assets that constitute a business or
acquires equity interest of one or more other entities and obtains control over that entity or entities.
In a combination effected through an exchange of cash or other assets it is easy to identify the
acquiring entity and the acquired entity. In a combination effected through an exchange of equity
interests, the entity issuing the equity interest is generally the acquiring entity. However, in some
business combinations, known as reverse acquisitions, it is the acquired entity that issues the equity
interests. (Paragraphs 15 19 offer guidance in this complex area.)

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline
I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from
the North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as
chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please
realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to
know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of
facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production.
Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important
to me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this
community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be
avoided. I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a
whole. However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural
environments and put Alaska s citizens at risk?
Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the
North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began
transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting
in 267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006). Also, in 1989, the

William Gibson s Neuromancer, And The Matrix
William Gibson s Neuromancer, and The Matrix by The Wachowskis both depict a society in which
humans are under constant manipulation by indispensable machines. In Neuromancer, the
protagonist Case is indirectly manipulated by a powerful Artificial Intelligence named Wintermute.
In The Matrix, majority of the human population lives within a computer simulated world, run by
machines. However, both storylines ultimately depict the fact that manipulation takes origin within
the individual rather than another entity, as both protagonists are frequently manipulated due to
flaws in their own character. These character flaws are not individual, rather, they are representative
of all humans. Thus, Neuromancer and The Matrixboth demonstrate the... Show more content on

In both instances, the audience is intentionally lead by false interpretations, as to prove that
individuals are constantly being manipulated unbeknownst to them.
Neuromancer demonstrates this omnipresence of manipulation, as the audience is controlled by
the author himself. Throughout the novel, Gibson s distinct word choice not only encapsulates
the audience, but also forces the novel to be read from a certain perspective. For example,
Gibson describes the atmosphere of Ninsei, by saying By day, the bars down Ninsei were
shuttered and featureless, the neon dead, the holograms inert, waiting, under the poisoned silver
sky (Gibson 7). Gibson could simply have stated that the street was dark, and the sky was cloudy.
However, he makes the conscious effort of wording the sentence with metaphors, and analogies in
order to convey the cynical perspective from which the audience is to observe the story. The
impact of word choice is shown again in The Matrix, as an agent justifies its horrific intentions by
saying Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure
(The Matrix). The agent is able to rationalize its intent, through the use of euphemisms. Similar to
the characters of both the novel and the movie, the audience is manipulated, by the author, because
they are unaware.
Manipulation is a result of human ignorance; individuals who are unaware of their society, are
prone to manipulation. In Neuromancer,

Bright Lines Identity
The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their
trials and tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story,
the young characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because
they clash with what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because
he is the most affected by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often
sees El confused about the way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering
from visions that haunt him. Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many
obstacles from her parents being murdered because of the war to her complete inability to
connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has
left his in many predicaments where she struggles with who he is. His identity is something that
he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity of which he struggles greatly with
is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s life and his struggle with his
sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life, especially in India. In
the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge aspect of life. It is
seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any attachment to a particular

The Impact Of Media On Children s Life
Introduction Socialisation is the process an individual experiences to become a unique
individual and an active member of society. Through socialisation, individuals accept and
acquire beliefs, roles, motives, values and behaviours. The process of socialisation is influenced
by many factors including: family, school, peers, location and the media. The impact the media
has on socialisation, particularly in Western countries, is immense, as it has the ability to
influence ideas, opinions, attitudes and images to many people. The media is a macro agent in
socialisation, as it presents people with ideas and generalised views of society from beyond
their micro worlds. Family is another important agent of socialisation, as for most children, their
family is responsible for their initial socialisation process. Families have a major and long
lasting effect on children s lives. The home and the family is the first environment of learning
for the child, where a child s first acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values begins.
School is another important agent of socialisation. The official purpose of school is to teach
knowledge and life skills. However, students don t just learn from the academic curriculum. In
school, we also learn skills to prepare us to become functional members of society. The focus of
this report is to compare how the agents of socialisation have changed over time. The primary

potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results

INTRODUCTION
This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride,
glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps
leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using
van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. Water potential is the chemical potential of water
compared to that of pure water, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This experiment went through a series of steps, starting with placing 100mL of different
concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) in separate beakers. Sections of potato were punched out,
then dried and recorded for initial weight. Five were placed in each concentration of the sodium
chloride, and left to sit for an hour and a half. The mixtures were swirled about every fifteen
minutes to prevent shells of water from building up around the core and causing error in the results.
After the hour and a half, we removed the potato sections, dried them and then weighed them for the
final weight. The percent change in weight was calculated using the equation % Change =

Muller is A scholarly young man who continues studying his physics books and thinking of exams.
Pragmatic to a fault, he inherits Kemmerich s soft airman s boots, then wills them to Paul as
MГјller lies dying with an agonizing stomach wound.
Leer is Paul s mature schoolmate and math whiz who titillates his comrades with details of sexual

Metathreate In Hamlet Essay
William Shakespeare was well known for his use in metathreate, a play which features another
play as a part of the plot. First time that we see the making of metathreate was when Hamlet
declares in Act II, where he announces a whole plot to catch his uncle Claudius, and force him into
a genuine confession of the murder of his father. Due to the fact that Hamlethas been entrusted with
the duty of avenging his father s death by his father s Ghost. He was then told learns that his father
may be murdered by Claudius, but he hesitates to execute the command of the Ghost and
Claudius sin. All he need and want now is to have a strong proof before taking any revenge and
allows time to lapse until the arrival of the players. Their arrival somehow inspires him with a
sudden idea of enacting a whole play to catch the conscience of Claudius.
At first, Hamlet has struggles during the first part of the play with the admonition from the Ghost
of his father to avenge his murder. He surely wants to be a loyal son and he hates his uncle,
however, he s not too quick to commit murder himself. And that s why he decides that he needs
some confirmation of his uncle s guilt, and therefore, he had this whole plan to catch him ... Show

Throughout the play, Hamlet himself try to raises the issue of seeming when he insists that others
may likely only seem to be in mourning, but however, he genuinely is in mourning as well. Due to
the fact that basically no one in the play is actually what they have seem, or more specifically, no
one is actually playing the role that is expected, for example, when Hamlet acts insane or when

The Darden Restaurant is a multi brand restaurant operator. They have over 1,800 restaurants that
include Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and LongHorn Steakhouse. The chains make more than $7
billion a year in revenues making Darden Restaurants the largest full service operation in the US.
This is due in part to the success from targeting different customers through distinct restaurant
formats. Darden has created a successful marketingmix based on the 4Ps. In terms of price, there is
much variety depending on the type of restaurant. For a casual restaurant it is generally between
$15 to $20 a plate and the fine dining is about $30 to $40 a plate. The pricing is fairly priced for
most places. Darden offers a very diverse range of food... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Psychographic segmentation is based on social class, lifestyle, or personality characteristics.
This type of segmentation can be viewed as the stylistic restaurant Olive Garden. The marketing
strategy behind this restaurant is based upon how customers are as interested in emotional
nourishment as they are in physical nourishment. The style of the restaurant invites a consumer to
be part of the Italian family. The concept of the restaurant relates to the lifestyles desired by the
customer to be part of a family. Lastly, behavioral segmentation is when a market is divided into
segments based on consumer knowledge or attitude toward a product. For Darden, a behavioral
segmentation would be how often the restaurants are being frequented or used to help determine
where a profitable business market should be located.
Another concept that relates to Darden s style of marketing is how they differentiate and position
their products for maximum competitive advantage. Darden has done an effective job of doing
this. The brands are well differentiated and positioned. The corporate name is kept very low
profile that most people don t realize there is a common ownership behind the restaurants. The
company also did well to find many different types of niche markets that allows for a wide offering

Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation...
Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation System
There is a serious problem with our nation s roads and highways. I find myself repeatedly
avoiding trips to the city for this very reason, as I m sure many others do as well. This nerve
wracking congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of
large cities. It is a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as,
businesses that are dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. To top it all off, this
problem is getting worse every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an
increase in cars on the road. More people are moving to cities and the suburbs that surround them,

The Clinton administration proposed a plan called the National Economic Crossroads Efficiency
Act, or NEXTEA. I personally think they spent more time on the name of this act than on the
actually content of it. This plan will increase the amount of money in the Highway Trust Fund,
yet reduce total spending by $500 million. And the purpose of that is?????? you got me, I guess
there isn?t a logical one. The number of federal programs and non highway projects will also be
increased, thus diverting even more money away from are already under funded roads and
highways (Fay 4).
Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous
skill at naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a
little more closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30
million for a moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I
think about it. A moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that
was used for roads and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or
willing to handle our transportation problems effectively.
My solution is to not let Washington ?screw? this problem up anymore and let the states and private
investors handle

Morality And The Moral Theories
Meaning of the phrases пїЅthe ends justifies the means The phrase пїЅthe ends justifies the means
is a very popular in many fields and is also used in our day to day living. However, it is more
used when talking about morality issues whereby it means that the morality of an action or
behavior depends entirely on the result of that action and not the behavior or action itself. This
is phrase that can be viewed different by proponent of different moral theories. A
consequentialist theorist will agree with this phrase. For example, if one tells a lie to save the
other person from grief, the action of telling the eye is viewed as good. Another example is
whereby a person kills the other in order to save the others. The two actions though they may be
viewed as going against the moral values in the society will be viewed as right because they
lead to positive results, meaning that the ends justifies the means. In overall, what it means is
that it does not matter the means used to achieve certain goals regardless of how bad or violent
they may be. On the other hand, a deontologist would hold the killing as wrong regardless as to
whether the results are positive or negative. This means that there are actions or behaviors that
are wrong no matter what. For example, like in the above examples, regardless of whether lying
saves another person grief or killing a person saves other people lives, those two actions are wrong
regardless of their positive results (Waller, 2005). An informed

Notes On Family And Family
family |Л€fam(Й™)lД“| noun ( pl. families )
1 [ treated as sing. or pl. ] a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.
Over the years, the term family has been greatly expanded from the black and white dictionary
definition you see above. Although a traditional family is usually thought of as a two people
bonded in marriage and their biological children, this is not always true. Personally, I believe that a
family can be anyone who you love and support, and who loves and supports you equally. They
don t necessarily have to be blood related to you or related to you by marriage. Friends can count
as family sometimes as well. A prime example of this in my life is my Uncle Sean. He s not
related to any of the people in my family in fact, he s adopted, so he isn t blood related to anyone
in his own family. However, I still consider him to be one of my closest relatives. He is a friend
of my parents, and he grew up with me more than many of my biological uncles and aunts. His
son is my cousin, and he is my uncle, whether or not we re technically related. There are many
different kinds of families within the society we live in today. There is the traditional family a man
and a woman, married, with biological children between them. But there are also many different
kinds of families adoptive families, families with only one parent, families with parents of the same
gender, families with both biological and adoptive children, families in

The Ideas Of Plato And Plato s Republic
Socrates was of the conviction that ideals are the preserve of a world only the shrewd man can
fathom, which makes the philosopher the only kind of person suited to govern others. He argued
that only the philosopher could effectively govern a state because others would yield to the wishes
and desires of the majority (Weeraratne 228). In Platos Republic, Socrates overtly took a dim view
of the Athenian democracythat governed Athens during his time. In fact, not only did Socrates have
problems with the Athenian democracy, he also found short of perfect any form of government that
was not consistent with his demonstration of an ideal government led by philosophers, and the
government of Athens did not resemble such a regime in any way. It is worth noting, however, that
the Socrates described in Plato s Republic appears to be characterized by Plato s own opinions, and
while Socrates supported a democratic variant of unified government, Aristotleadvocated for a form
of aristocracy in which the majority middle class ruled. Because of political upheaval, Athens was
in a constant state of unrest and instability during the later years Socrates life. A junta by the
name Thirty Tyrants, which was led by Critias (Plato s relative and a student of Socrates),
eventually put an end to democracy and ruled for close to a year before the reinstatement of the
Athenian democracy (Johnson 11). While it is widely believed that Socrates was opposed to
Athenian democracy, a reading of Plato s

However, this Louder With Crowder video proves many of the myths commonly believed about this to be false. Top AR 15 Myths You Should Stop Believing 1. AR 15s Are The Most Dangerous Guns on the Market: Crowder says there are plenty of other rifles that are semi automatics and are more effective at killing than the AR 15s. These other rifles can carry just as much ammo and their ammunition is just as powerful or more so than an AR 15s. Semi automatic shotguns, commonly used for deer hunting, are also just as dangerous. • 3. Ancient Roman Architecture The building borrowed from mainly large scale ancient Roman buildings. One of the most principle design was the longitudinal axis as the building now had the focus of attention to the opposite end to the entrance. This was because it was a church thus that design enabled number of people to gather for the liturgy with an inward focus on the altar. Another principle design is the series of arches/pillars on both sides, that are continuous throughout the side of the church. The purpose of that is to again lead your eyes into the critical point of the church, the altar. Note that the pillars are in corinthian style. Another notable design is the wooden door in the entrance which it has carved imageries of scenes from the Bible, basically a frieze but on wood. There is also, inside the church one aisle on each side behind the arches/pillars, and the central naive which has a wide open space. Also opposite of the church there is the altar which is in a semi circular space. Above the altar there is a beautiful painting, probably a frieze, above the altar which is highly polychromed, even using rare colors like blue. Another notable feature was the use of clerestory which lit the church with sunlight softly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sanctuary screen was also there to separate the main altar area and the nave. Irene Gut Opdyk Sacrifice Nomination For Irene Gut Opdyke For Courage to Care Award The Courage to Care award deserves to go to Irene Gut Opdyke because of her heroic characteristics which were brave, self sacrificing, and good hearted. These qualities allowed her to contribute heroic actions. Irene did this during the most terrifying time for most people. The Holocaust was period time where 6 million European Jews, as well as gypsies and homosexuals were killed by the German Nazi regime. The Nazi s became of power in the month of January 1933. The hate for the jews came from the idea that the jews were inferior where as the Germans were racially superior, also that jews were alien to the so called racial community of the Germans. • 9. Analysis Of Dirty Dancing Dirty Dancing, A 1987 romantic based story movie, depicted the love story between Frances Baby Houseman, performed by Kaleigh Courts, and her dance instructor Johnny Castle, performed by Aaron Patrick Craven. It has been well loved for generations world widely. Eleanor Bergstein, the writer of this film responded that the plot of this film was partially based on her childhood. Eleanor had a nickname Baby which is as same as the name of the female protagonist in her film. Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story On Stage is a live musical performance form of the original film. To me, what made it more engaging than the movie is that it combines real life story and dancemovements together to express that idea that dances come from life, and life flows like a musical performance. There are beginnings, climax and ending, ups and downs, peace and vitality. Due to the fact that Dirty Dancing was in a narrative form, it was more of a challenge to the dancers to not only present themselves as dancers but also to put themselves into the characters shoes, acting out the personalities which might be completely opposite of their own. The opening scene of the performance caught my attention immediately. It was set up in two parts. One of which was having the protagonist, Baby, sitting in the corner in the front stage, packing up her suitcase and preparing to go on a vacation with her family. There were three pairs of performers dancing behind a screen which projected the shadow of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Arch Arch The arch consists of two supports, called piers, each topped by a platform called an impost. Angled blocks of brick or stone, called voussoirs . These are placed on the imposts in an arched, curved pattern that is capped by the central block of the arch called the keystone. A row of arches is called an arcade. Arches allowed the Romans to create wider, taller, and lighter structures. They also learned that they if they built arches entirely inside the walls of their buildings that this would make the walls even stronger. • 11. Bombing Of Nagasaki Essay On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan killing 70,000 people. The atomic bomb was directly responsible for the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty of 1970. Although the bombing of Nagasaki was purely devastating, the United States Government claims the bomb was not inhumane but the Japanese government disagrees even though in reality the citizens were the most greatly affected. The United States Government and military refer to the use of the atomic bomb as valid and with reason but this is most likely a way to clear their heat from the devastating bombing of Nagasaki. Frederick Olivi, the third Bockscar pilot, described the nuclear fireball as being brighter than one thousand suns ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). At the time he was approximately seven miles from the ground zero ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). Olivi much like the other men piloting the Bockscar expected the bomb to be a dud. • 12. Compare And Contrast Roots And The Life Of Frederick Douglass Imagine being stuck in chains for six months in your own filth and waste. For some slaves on the middle passage it was exactly like that. This, however, was different than slaves born into slavery, for they didn t have to go through that harsh journey. Both were common to try and escape, few making it. Making the outcomes of Frederick Douglass, who wrote an autobiography, and Kunta Kinte, from the movie Roots, different. While Roots and the narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass have some similarities, the differences of their origins and outcomes are more significant because that s what shaped them who they are. One difference of the book and movie is how they started out becoming a slave. Kunta was a normal boy, just becoming a man in his tribe, when he was taken prisoner. Frederick s mom was a slave so he was just born into it, skipping the terrible middle passage. Kunta had it real hard on his journey and even a man died right next to him. Today no country operates its trade independently and this reason itself has reduced importance of geographical boundaries and made trade associations like WTO, IMF etc. more significant. The duration of my Bachelors in Commerce has cultivated deep interest in me towards understanding dynamics of International trade and using it as a tool to add value to business. Engaging in managerial activities and having an upper edge in statistical and accounting computations since my high school evolved my interest in the field of Commerce. This led me to pursue Bachelor of Commerce as my undergraduate level of study. With subjects like Management accounting, Auditing, Fundamentals of Financial management and many more (related to business) in my undergraduate curriculum, I developed a better understanding for this course. With my dedication and hard work, I have always maintained around 1st class throughout all semester with 6.08 overall CGPA. • 14. The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay The Effects of Advertising on Society Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people sold on the product, they can influence people s desires. This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values. Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable role in the moral growth or stunting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Identify And Explain The Difference Between Voluntary And... Every day, our body naturally responds to environmental stimuli by one of two mechanisms, a voluntary reaction or an involuntary reflex. The nerves and muscles work together to respond to a change in the body s environment, both internal and external, with the intent of maintaining a homeostatic state. Common reflexes include slipping and righting oneself, as well as immediately and naturally withdrawing a body part that made contact with a hot object. A reflex typically occurs prior to the brainfully processing the information regarding the stimulus. Conversely, a voluntary action is controllable and learned by experience (G). The most wellВknown learned response is Pavlov s dogs, who were shown to salivate at the ring of a bell because it signaled food was coming. Both voluntary and involuntary responses go through neural pathways beginning with a receptor that receives a stimulus from the environment. This stimulus elicits an action potential, which carries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many factors, including receptor function, neuron stimulation, length/complexity of neuronal pathway, difference between sensory/motor neuron conduction velocities and synaptic transmission, influence the reaction time. Of utmost importance is the synaptic transmission, which refers to how presynaptic cells communicate with postsynaptic cells by releasing neurotransmitters which, when collected at the postsynaptic cells receptors, work to engage a response. This process has the potential to be altered for any duration of time by either improving or impairing its potential. Postsynaptic neurons receive both excitatory and inhibitory inputs, which have the capability to increase or decrease the likelihood of the nerve firing an action potential. • 16. Installing A Office Surveillance System Due to the rapid advancement in technology especially in the security industry, there is a huge surge in the numbers of company surveillance of the employees and different ways of supervision have been established. Many companies have installed security cameras in the workplace and have access to the browsing history and emails of workers. However, there has been an uproar among the workers lately as they are more exposed to social media and news from different places. More and more cases of employers overextending their power and control of workers private lives can be seen all over the United States. For example, according to the president of Teamsters Local 804, Tim Sylvester, the metrics based assault of workers is not anything strange (Bruder, 2015). Indeed, it is not beneficial to a company to install office surveillancesystem because it raises privacyconcerns among the workers, causes mistrust between employees and employers, and reduces organizational commitment. It is argued by some that installing surveillance system in the workplace is advantageous to the company because the companies need to protect their company assets and trade secrets. This is because electronic surveillance prevents any intrusion, hacking or negative attempts to their computer systems. Indeed, Ball (2010) contends that they want to protect corporate interests and trade secrets. • 17. The Career Of A Professional Workplace A professional workplace is an environment that produces numerous challenging situations and if not handled correctly, could create a very unproductive organization. A well qualified employee is selected to be responsible for controlling all or part of a company, including difficult situations that arise between co workers. The term given to this worker is a manager; their main task in the organization is to get things done through the efforts of other people. This may sound like a rather simple task, but it is very deep and layered with different difficulties. Henry Mintzberg, an internationally renowned author on business and management, broke down the tasks a manager faces into ten different interrelated roles. According to Mintzberg s managerial roles, there are three categories that break up the ten roles a manager performs: Interpersonal, Informational, and Decisional. Interpersonal encompasses figurehead, leader, and liaison. Informational includes monitor, disseminator, and spokesperson. Finally, Decisional covers entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, and negotiator. Jo s affection for Laurie is not predicated on his wealth, and it must be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However, while we can say that Laurie does not contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him would do little to advance it, particularly if the reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. In both instances, the audience is intentionally lead by false interpretations, as to prove that individuals are constantly being manipulated unbeknownst to them. Neuromancer demonstrates this omnipresence of manipulation, as the audience is controlled by the author himself. Throughout the novel, Gibson s distinct word choice not only encapsulates the audience, but also forces the novel to be read from a certain perspective. For example, Gibson describes the atmosphere of Ninsei, by saying By day, the bars down Ninsei were shuttered and featureless, the neon dead, the holograms inert, waiting, under the poisoned silver sky (Gibson 7). Gibson could simply have stated that the street was dark, and the sky was cloudy. However, he makes the conscious effort of wording the sentence with metaphors, and analogies in order to convey the cynical perspective from which the audience is to observe the story. The impact of word choice is shown again in The Matrix, as an agent justifies its horrific intentions by saying Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure (The Matrix). The agent is able to rationalize its intent, through the use of euphemisms. Similar to the characters of both the novel and the movie, the audience is manipulated, by the author, because they are unaware. • 40. Bright Lines Identity The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him. Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life, especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any attachment to a particular religion (despite the time she prays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Impact Of Media On Children s Life Introduction Socialisation is the process an individual experiences to become a unique individual and an active member of society. Through socialisation, individuals accept and acquire beliefs, roles, motives, values and behaviours. The process of socialisation is influenced by many factors including: family, school, peers, location and the media. The impact the media has on socialisation, particularly in Western countries, is immense, as it has the ability to influence ideas, opinions, attitudes and images to many people. The media is a macro agent in socialisation, as it presents people with ideas and generalised views of society from beyond their micro worlds. Family is another important agent of socialisation, as for most children, their family is responsible for their initial socialisation process. Families have a major and long lasting effect on children s lives. The home and the family is the first environment of learning for the child, where a child s first acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values begins. School is another important agent of socialisation. The official purpose of school is to teach knowledge and life skills. However, students don t just learn from the academic curriculum. In school, we also learn skills to prepare us to become functional members of society. The focus of this report is to compare how the agents of socialisation have changed over time. • 44. Sodium Chloride Sucrose And Potato Osmosis The Effect of Sodium Chloride, Glucose, and Sucrose on Potato Tissue By Rachel Thurmes ABSTRACT This experiment examined the water potential of white potatoes, and compared them to those previously recorded. The validity of van t Hoff s Law was also tested by using different solutes in which to test the potatoes. This was done by measuring potato core weight before and after soaking them in solutions of different dissociations, and determining the percent weight change. Then van t Hoff s Law was used to calculate the water potential of the potatoes. The water potential of the potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results do not agree with van t Hoff s Law. INTRODUCTION This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride, glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. Water potential is the chemical potential of water compared to that of pure water, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mixtures were swirled about every fifteen minutes to prevent shells of water from building up around the core and causing error in the results. Lastly, behavioral segmentation is when a market is divided into segments based on consumer knowledge or attitude toward a product. For Darden, a behavioral segmentation would be how often the restaurants are being frequented or used to help determine where a profitable business market should be located. Another concept that relates to Darden s style of marketing is how they differentiate and position their products for maximum competitive advantage. Darden has done an effective job of doing this. • 49. Morality And The Moral Theories Meaning of the phrases пїЅthe ends justifies the means The phrase пїЅthe ends justifies the means is a very popular in many fields and is also used in our day to day living. However, it is more used when talking about morality issues whereby it means that the morality of an action or behavior depends entirely on the result of that action and not the behavior or action itself. This is phrase that can be viewed different by proponent of different moral theories. A consequentialist theorist will agree with this phrase. For example, if one tells a lie to save the other person from grief, the action of telling the eye is viewed as good. Another example is whereby a person kills the other in order to save the others. The two actions though they may be viewed as going against the moral values in the society will be viewed as right because they lead to positive results, meaning that the ends justifies the means. In overall, what it means is that it does not matter the means used to achieve certain goals regardless of how bad or violent they may be. On the other hand, a deontologist would hold the killing as wrong regardless as to whether the results are positive or negative. This means that there are actions or behaviors that are wrong no matter what. For example, like in the above examples, regardless of whether lying saves another person grief or killing a person saves other people lives, those two actions are wrong regardless of their positive results (Waller, 2005). • 50. Notes On Family And Family family |Л€fam(Й™)lД“| noun ( pl. families ) 1 [ treated as sing. or pl. ] a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Over the years, the term family has been greatly expanded from the black and white dictionary definition you see above. Although a traditional family is usually thought of as a two people bonded in marriage and their biological children, this is not always true. Personally, I believe that a family can be anyone who you love and support, and who loves and supports you equally. They don t necessarily have to be blood related to you or related to you by marriage. Friends can count as family sometimes as well. A prime example of this in my life is my Uncle Sean. He s not related to any of the people in my family in fact, he s adopted, so he isn t blood related to anyone in his own family. However, I still consider him to be one of my closest relatives. He is a friend of my parents, and he grew up with me more than many of my biological uncles and aunts. His son is my cousin, and he is my uncle, whether or not we re technically related. There are many different kinds of families within the society we live in today. There is the traditional family a man and a woman, married, with biological children between them. But there are also many different kinds of families adoptive families, families with only one parent, families with parents of the same gender, families with both biological and adoptive children, families in ... • 52. The Ideas Of Plato And Plato s Republic Socrates was of the conviction that ideals are the preserve of a world only the shrewd man can fathom, which makes the philosopher the only kind of person suited to govern others. He argued that only the philosopher could effectively govern a state because others would yield to the wishes and desires of the majority (Weeraratne 228). In Platos Republic, Socrates overtly took a dim view of the Athenian democracythat governed Athens during his time. In fact, not only did Socrates have problems with the Athenian democracy, he also found short of perfect any form of government that was not consistent with his demonstration of an ideal government led by philosophers, and the government of Athens did not resemble such a regime in any way. It is worth noting, however, that the Socrates described in Plato s Republic appears to be characterized by Plato s own opinions, and while Socrates supported a democratic variant of unified government, Aristotleadvocated for a form of aristocracy in which the majority middle class ruled. Because of political upheaval, Athens was in a constant state of unrest and instability during the later years Socrates life. A junta by the name Thirty Tyrants, which was led by Critias (Plato s relative and a student of Socrates), eventually put an end to democracy and ruled for close to a year before the reinstatement of the Athenian democracy (Johnson 11).
