2. Example Of Cultural Analysis
Cultural Expectations and Proxemics As consumers in this country, we all at some point, have or will
have gone out to eat at a public restaurant. The site I chose was a Mexican restaurant called Zacatecas,
which is located in a shopping center in Galt. This shopping center has a variety of other business
establishments like a Raley s grocery store, Walmart, two coffee shops, pizza shop, and a Chinese
restaurant to mention a few. This location is always busy with a variety of consumers with different
cultural perspectives. I find it interesting how different people with different cultural customs occupy
space, proxemics, in a public Mexican restaurant. I feel that anthropologists would find it very
interesting how different cultures occupy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I walked I noticed there were customers, all Caucasians, sitting at four different tables that were all
against the wall and the middle of the dining area was empty. I proceeded to the bar and was greeted
by the bartender/waitress, who was also a female Caucasian. The employees at the restaurant were
mostly Caucasian with the exception of one Hispanic looking waitress and the part of the cooking
staff. Shortly after, a white couple sat down a few bar stools away from me, but not very close. They
sat there having a couple of margaritas engaged in deep conversation. Glancing back over to the
dining area I noticed it was getting busier with more customers coming in. What I noticed first, was
that everyone was gravitating to all the outer tables against the wall and front windows. Secondly, that
I was the only Hispanic customer at that time. All customers were engaged in conversation, eating or
watching the televisions. The employees were running around taking food orders and taking food out
to customers. Most customers seemed to be in good spirts with the exception of one table. At this table
there was an elderly woman with her daughter. The daughter was complaining that her mother
received the wrong food and that it took too long for their order to come out.

Espionage Act of 1917 and Sedition Act (Amendment) of 1918
On April 2nd 1917, President Woodrow Wilson of the United States of America, ??went before
Congress and called for a declaration of war. Both the House and the Senate voted overwhelmingly in
favor of going to war with Germany.?# This was an act that led to much resistance among the
American people. Not four months earlier the American people re elected President Wilson, partly
because of his success in keeping the United States out of this European war. However, a series of
events, such as the Germans continuing submarine warfare and the attacks on five American ships, led
President Wilson to sever diplomatic relations with Germany and send the United States into what ...

increased the governments power to suppress the American people in their effort to criticize the war.
Under this new amendment Congress expanded their power to not only punish those interfering with

The Interpretation of Nature in Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape
Garden of Ryoan ji Luis Barragán, the influential Mexican minimalist architect and Pritzker Prize
winner once said that, In the creation of a garden, the architect invites the partnership of the Kingdom
of Nature. In a beautiful garden the majesty of nature is ever present, but it is nature reduced to human
proportions and thus transformed into the most efficient haven against the aggressiveness of
contemporary life. Such design principle, with a strong emphasis on the unity of man and nature as a
way to build freedom and independence in the natural environment of gardens away from the unrest
social political atmosphere, has not only been seen in Western minimalist architecture, but also has
been extensively utilized in Classical Asian architecture. Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and
Japanese Dry Landscape Garden are two typical examples that demonstrate such harmonious
coexistence between artificiality and nature. Thus, with a focus on a comparison between the selected
examples of Humble Administrator s Garden of Suzhou (see fig. 1) and Ryoan ji Dry Landscape

Believing in these concepts, as well as many others, are essential to Muhammad s followers, each past
and present. Similar to Judaism and Christianity, Islam also teaches that there is one god in the
universe, providing Muslims with a monotheistic view. There are several beliefs in Islam that Muslims

That is beyond our ability to do, yet it is something that I can understand. Islam, Judaism and
Christianity share the main concept that God sent prophets to guide their fellow people. However,
Islam also differs from these two faiths on important aspects related to prophet hood. For instance,
Islam teaches that all prophets of God were of high moral character and did not succumb to the sins
their people committed. For example, Islam exonerates Aaron even though the Old Testament depicts
him as someone who worshipped the golden calf. I believe in the prophets because we are obliged to
believe in and honor all of the prophets, and to testify that prophet hood has been completed with the
coming of Prophet Muhammad. In Islam, the purpose of life is to live in a way that is pleasing to
Allah so that one may gain Paradise. When a person reaches puberty, an account of each person s
deeds is opened, and this will be used at the Day of Judgment to determine his eternal fate. I believe in
this because just as our physical actions and habits affect the body and leave their impressions upon it,
so does the good or evil of our deeds affect the spirit and leave an impression upon it. Sometimes we

passed the War Powers Act of 1973 to control the president s military powers; a year later, the

Also, many presidents have abused their presidential power when they serve their terms.

Classification PSA is a glycoprotein produced by the prostate epithelial cells Cancer may elevate
levels both from increased production and because tissue barriers between the gland lumen and
vascular bed are disrupted.
PSA Levels PSA has a half life of 2.2 days and elevated levels vary in recovery depending on the
cause of the elevation PSA elevation may precede clinical cancer by 5 10 years.
Specificity PSA is organ specific, not cancer specific. Using 4.0 ng/ml as cut off for abnormal the
specificity is 91% and 85% for cut off of 3.0 ng/ml Elevated levels also found in BPH and
prostatitis/UTIs, post prostate biopsy and in acute urinary retention (do not test for 2 4 weeks).
Negligible level increases due to DRE.
Sensitivity Most screening studies use 4.0 ng/ml as cut off for abnormal levels, but a review of the
literature in 2006 showed the estimated sensitivity using 4.0 was only 21% for detecting cancer and
51% for detecting high grade (Gleason 8). In 2009, estimates of 4.3 to 73% sensitivity were given
(www.parliament.nz/resource0000166364). Using 3.0 cut off increased sensitivities to 32 and 68%.

11. Arguments Against Ethical Relativism In The Bible
As you have essentially mentioned, because moral absolutes are true, ethical relativism is false.
Namely, the arguments against ethical relativism are weak. Primarily, your argument used the Bible.
As a Bible believer, I agree with your statements: the Bible argues for moral absolutes rather than
ethical relativism. For instance, the Ten Commandments are true for anyone and the God s standards
are absolute. However, anyone who is skeptical concerning the Bible would not view the Scriptures as
a credible source to argue against ethical relativism. Therefore, knowing and presenting arguments
that do not derive from the Bible would be beneficial. One beneficial method would be scrutinizing
two prime forms of ethical relativism: moral subjectivism and cultural relativism. These two have
shortcomings in their arguments. The former form, moral subjectivism, basically argues that morality
is whatever one perceives, whereas the latter, cultural relativism, states that the culture dictates
morality for that culture. With the former, one who believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is absurd. In addition, subjective morality is inherently logically contradictory since, for instance,
if a person believes that subjective morality is immoral, subjective morality appears to be immoral and
not viable. An apparent stronger form of ethical relativism is cultural relativism since, as Michael
Scott Jones wrote, Cultural relativism is more metaphysical than is moral subjectivism, which is more
epistemological in nature. Therefore, in moral subjectivism, one merely perceives morality, and in
cultural relativism, the culture dictates the reality of morality. In spite of cultural relativism providing
a stronger form of ethical relativism than moral subjectivism, cultural relativism ultimately fails. A
weak argument for cultural relativism is that because a diverse morality appears to exist in the world,
cultural relativism must be true.

thereby allowing more wants to be satisfied. A growing economy increases employment opportunities,
stimulates business enterprise and innovation. A sustained economic growth is fundamental to any
nation wishing to raise its standard of living and provide a greater well being for all. Gross domestic

Real GDP is measured by the following formula; [(current year quantity) x (based year price)]. A more
reliable measure of economic growth is real GDP per capita; this measurement takes into account both
the total production of the nation and the total population. Real GDP per capita measures the real
income per head of the population.
This can be measured by the following formula; Per capita nominal GDP = Nominal GDP /
Population, Per capita real GDP = Real GDP / Population. Seven factors determine economic growth.
Natural resources such as land, mineral deposits, waterways; climatic conditions provide an essential
foundation to economic growth. Combined with the other resources of capital, labor and enterprises,
natural resources can be developed and organized to increase the productive capacity if the nation.
Consequently the quality and size of the labor force is a major determinant of economic growth.
Education and vocational training are essential the growth potential of a nation. The promotion of
education and job training schemes increase the knowledge, skills and flexibility of the workforce that
contributes to potentially higher levels of productivity and efficiency. Whether from natural increase
or immigration population growth can cause a higher level of economic growth. An increasing

of Representatives is bigger than the Senate. There is not a lot of media coverage in the House as it is
in the Senate, members in the Senate are elected every six years as for the House are elected every two
years. The House has a reputation of being much more contentious and impulsive when it comes to

a lot easier than the Senate, for simple fact you are going for a congressional district vote, and not a
state wide vote. Another important difference is that money related or monetary bills must be made in
the House. It is like this because

14. Clyne s Revision of Grice s Maxims Essay
Grice s Maxims have been criticised for being too Anglo centric. Michael Clyne proposes revisions to
the four maxims in his 1994 book Intercultural Communication at Work. Do Clyne s revisions of this
model go far enough in universally accounting for intercultural conversation? Why or why not? Grice
s General Cooperative Principle has been under continuous debate for the past three decades. It is
mainly through the maxims that Grice s paradigm has been challenged as highly ethnocentric,
however such readings may tend to take the maxims too literally rather than as reference points for
language interchange (Allan as cited in Clyne, 1994, p. 11). There is some agreement in this, but as
suggested by Mey (1994, p. 74), the principle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In such cases, there is a clash between Grice s maxims and the pragmatic rules of conversation, which
are culturally sensitive. For example, when being offered a drink, a typical Chinese person would
automatically say no the first time, while expecting the offer to be made at least two or three times
more. This resembles a kind of phatic language communication; saying no, but not really meaning no.
In this sort of situation, if someone doesn t adhere to the cultural norm choosing to follow Grice s
maxims instead, then they would sound odd and out of place. The above example demonstrates that
Grice s maxims aren t relevant in all contexts as they clash with certain cultural values systems. Many
linguists (Clyne, 1994; Hymes, 1986; Loveday, 1983; Walsh, 2009) have picked up on this
discrepancy between theory and data, claiming that the maxims are only relevant to the English
speaking Western world. In particular, Clyne (1994) has pointed out that they have limited relevance
to cultures where content and knowledge are core values. For example, speakers of Malagasy, whose
form of co operation seems to consist in making their contributions as opaque, convoluted and non
perspicuous as possible (Keenan as cited in Mey, 1994, p. 74) could be seen as flouting the Maxim of
Quantity. This is because information, especially new information gives the holder a certain amount of
prestige, thus Malagasy people tend to

The Dispute between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea The territorial and maritime
disputes over the South China Sea (SCS) have been ongoing for decades. The disputes have been
considered to be one the fiercest contested in Asia. The South China Sea is an enclosed sea surrounded
by several different states. China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, and Malaysia all
surrounded the South China Sea. The main cause of tension in this dispute is because China claims to
have historical sovereignty over all of the South China Sea. Associations of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) have come up with different discussions and suggestions on how to end the disputes with
favorable conditions for all contending states. They use the principles of the United Nation
Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and form the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in
the South China Sea (DOC). The states surrounding the South China Sea possess 12 nautical miles
territorial sea and 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zones (EEZs). Thus, the South China Sea is
not only international waters, instead, it is also overlapping exclusive economic zones. According to
UNCLOS, disputes over exclusive economic zones must be resolved through negotiations by the
contending states. Many of these contending Southeast Asian states have negotiated their maritime
boundaries, however, China fails to comply. China claims that it owns all of the South China Sea, and
therefore, has no need to

18. Rock And Roll Music Analysis
Rock n Roll music is a subgenre of the meta genre, Rock. Freed (2009, 169) described it by saying,
rock n roll is really swing with a modern name. Ennis (1992, 253) identifies, First, early rocknroll
allowed every performer to draw on the full musical resources of pop, country, and rhythm and blues.
and on rockhall.com (2014) his viewpoint is expanded upon,
The more immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so called race music, or rhythm blues, and
hillbilly music, or county western of the Forties and Fifties. Other significant influences include blues,
jazz, gospel, boogie woogie, folk and bluegrass.
Rock n Roll drew inspiration from many different styles therefore it is a hybrid of multiple genres.

Generally, the time signature of Rock n Roll is 4/4, as it is in Pop, Country, Blues and many other
genres that Rock n Roll is inspired by. For the purpose of Rock n Roll, we can assume the common
time signature is 4/4 because it is simple and easy to move to. You didn t need to be a skilled dancer to
dance to it, essentially why it was kept simple. Rock n Roll makes use of syncopation and as songs of
this genre are usually in 4/4, the emphasis is on beats 2 and 4. Snowman (2009, 220) emphasises the
importance of syncopation by saying, All dance music makes use of this, and it s often a vital element
that helps tie the whole track together.
All these ingredients combined helps create the energetic beat, arguably the most identified ingredient
of Rock n Roll.
Although the foundation of the beat is very similar to that of Rhythm and Blues, it is clear to see how
Rock n Roll has built upon it, when we listen to the music. Initially, Rock n Roll songs were often just
recreated versions of existing Rhythm and Blues songs. Big Joe Turner s song Shake, Rattle and Roll
is a Rhythm and Blues song which Bill Haley and the Comets transformed into a Rock n Roll

19. Mark Clayton s A Whole Lot Of Cheating
Cheating for many is simply a way of life. For others it is a sin in which they would never think to
commit. For students in todays world they are stuck in the middle. Many students see cheating as the
only way of passing a class. Where other students see as it as a last resort. No matter what side
students are on, cheating is wrong, but even though it is wrong and extremely risky millions of
students around the nation do it on a daily basis just to get by. Cheating is exactly what Mark Clayton
talks about in the article tittle, A Whole Lot of Cheatin Going On. The word that is most often
associated with cheating is plagiarism. A word that makes students like myself cringe at the thought.
The reason being if caught in this act of despair it can simply ruin your life, your academic life that is.
Throughout the article Mark Clayton makes many good points about cheating, but because of his lack
of opinions it takes a little more reading between the lines to find out his position on the touchy
subject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clayton says Whether copying another students homework, cheating on a test, or plagiarizing an
essay, cheating is limited only by imagination and technology. With this remark I have disagree
mainly due to the fact that indeed technology and a students imagination are both prime suspects when
talking about cheating, but what also needs to be taken into accounts is simply the students mindset
and their motivation. Lets face it in todays world with the internet and endless amount of resources
there is simply no reason to cheat on a paper or an exam. An argument can be made that the growth of

that keeps them from cheating and motivated is the thought of hoisting that diploma high in the air and

20. The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Deprave Analysis
When New Orleans rhythm and blues musician James Booker recorded his hit single Gonzo in 1960,
he most likely had no idea that the title of his single would be used, almost a decade after its release,
to refer to the unabashedly radical style of journalism that Hunter S. Thompson with his illustrator
Ralph Steadman happened to invent with their breakthrough article The Kentucky Derby is decadent
and depraved . It s exactly how it sounds. The annual Kentucky Derby Festival, known in the United
States as The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports was being covered by Thompson and he fixated
least on the details of the actual race and wrote primarily about the debauched festivities and depravity
that the attendees indulged in through the festival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A style of journalism that does away with the oppression of objectivity that traditional journalism
demands and in the process raises the question of whether any piece of reporting can ever be truly
objective. Whenever the name of Hunter Thompson is evoked the focus automatically falls on the
drugs, the guns, the constant and diverse forms of substance abuse [and Johnny Depp] but should we
choose to swim through the psychedelic haze that surrounds Thompson we find a spirited, innovative
writer whose accounts of his times with the outlawed Hell s Angels or Richard Nixon is compelling
because of his vivid prose more than anything else. As he once famously declared in an interview
Objective Journalism is one of the main reasons American Politics has been corrupt for so long. You
can t be objective about Nixon. In the 1950s and 60s America, a silent alteration engulfed a generation
of young reporters and writers which came to be known as New Journalism. Journalism that blended
fiction with fact and had the likes of Norman Mailer and Truman Capote committed to its style.
Norman Mailer once declared that he felt that (he) had some dim intuitive feeling that what was wrong
with all journalism is that the reporter tended to be objective and that that was one of the great lies of

To B.G. or Not to Be Choosing what to do after high school is a major decision in life and for most it
is the first big decision that will lead to many others. I have always wanted to go to college but still
have not decided on which one is best for me. This decision became easier for me once I decided
which major I wanted to go into. A lot of schools in Ohio do not offer a Doctorate in Physical Therapy
or classes for Pre Physical Therapy so that narrowed down my list greatly. Bowling Green State

I decided that I wanted to be a Physical Therapist so now I have to choose which path I want to go
down to earn my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. If I went to BGSU then I would go there for four
years and earn my Bachelor s degree in Pre Physical Therapy. Since BGSU does not offer a doctorate
program, I would then have to apply to different universities that offer the doctorate program, such as
Ohio University, in hopes that I would get accepted into their doctorate program ( BGSU ). If I went to
Toledo then I would, like BGSU, go four years then apply to a university. In contrast to BGSU, Toledo
has a doctorate program, and when looking through applications they favor students who have done
their undergrad at Toledo so there would be a greater chance of being accepted, and I would not have
to switch universities after four years ( Toledo ). Based on these reasons, I feel that Bowling Green
State University is the best college for me to start my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. The biggest
reason for me is cost because I want to come out of college with the least amount of debt possible. In
regards to size and logistics for my major, BGSU and Toledo match up pretty closely. Since I am
choosing Bowling Green, I am going to have to keep my grades up extra high to make sure that I can
get accepted into a doctorate program. This means a lot of hard work and time studying but I feel I am

Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to do something, and this is what Katniss
and Atlanta share in their stories which made a mark; which leads others mostly females what to
follow. Bravery is courageous behavior or character this is the foundation that makes these two
characters unique. The bravery that is placed in these two is overwhelming, yet makes everyone fear
what will be next. Pride is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one s own
achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or
possessions that are widely admired. Theses three factors bring theses two characters together and
make them role models of their era. Even though these characters are similar in many ways they do
have their differences. The reasons for this is because Alanta was not opened to love, even though she
was loved by a hero she did not accept it. Unlike Katniess where she was uposed to love by the two
men that both wanted her love. She eventually ended up with one. Therefore this is how the silimarties

Being a good mother and an ideal wife is important in The Awakening because when this book takes

many things that would be frowned upon in the late nineteenth century. Throughout the novel Edna is
seen fighting societal standards. She struggles to have an identity of her own instead of being known
as Leonce Pontellier s wife and Raul and Etienne Pontellier s mother. In the end Edna chooses to end
her life instead of being defined by men for the rest of her life. In the beginning it seems like Edna
feels compelled to abide by the societal standards. Even though she is described as not a mother
woman (Chopin 9). Edna grew up thinking that her life would fall into place after getting married,
after having children, after getting settled in life. After each milestone Edna found herself in the same
spot. No matter what she did, she did not find what she was looking for. After a point she discovers
that this life isn t the life she wants. She sets out to find a new life for herself. Through Chopin s focus
on two other female characters, Adele Ratignolle and Mademoiselle Reisz, Edna s options of life paths
are shown. These women are the examples that the people around Edna compare her with and from
whom they obtain their expectations for her. Edna, however, finds both role models lacking and begins

24. Essay On Noise Pollution
Abstract
Noise is responsible for hidden and or obvious damages. Hearing loss and tinnitus greatly depend on
the level of sound (dB) and duration of sound . Short duration sound of decent intensity primarily a
gunshot or explosion will not be described because they are not currently encountered in our normal
urban environment. Introduction Noise pollution is a type of pollution that doesn t get a lot of
attention because many people don t see it as a problem. Although it may not seem a major problem to
many, to other people it is a major problem because of the health problems and defects and disorders
caused by the little amount of sleep these people may be getting. The exact definition of noise is,

elementary school is that you have very little responsibilities and you don t have to worry about
college. I attended Fairview Elementary School from grades K 5. I remember each year like it was
yesterday. For example, I remembered the way I looked, the friends I made, the events that occurred,
and the problems I had.
All throughout my years of elementary school, many people would pick on me and boast about their
appearance in comparison to me. For example, I was the smallest kid in my class. Everyone would
always be taller than me and make me reach for a pencil as they held it up high. In addition, I also had
a big head which also gave kids another opportunity to make fun of me. Finally, many kids started to

I was disappointed not only by the difficulty of adhering to the moral virtues, but also by the reaction
from the crowd. I have now experienced the world differently, and should hope to be more fit to
follow the virtues. I have grown older, and the the world has too, so it is logical that the virtues I
mentioned previously should need to be modified.
Many virtues such as Sincerity and Cleanliness, two moral virtues which I had no trouble
accomplishing the previous time, remain applicable today. However, the virtue of Order was a bit
troublesome, so I have decided to morph it into the virtue of Planning, for one cannot, however
frustratingly, obtain complete control over the will of another. Planning in combination with

29. Pros And Cons Of Oral History
Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of
human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain
time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences on
a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not
always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other
forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when
using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand accounts of a certain event,
person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and
finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be
heard that otherwise wouldn t. There also are several cons when using oral history as a source of
evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been misinterpreted and
inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting personal accounts of an
event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In the Hochschild book and
the interview with Stalin s daughter, these pros and cons are present. Having a first hand account of a

36. Racial Discrimination And Diversity In Division I Football
Over the years, the United States has been considered a melting pot of nationalities and ethnicities, but
from the beginning, the white race has perceived themselves as a superior race, enforcing their power
over other races through slavery and racial segregation. Today, we believe that the United States has
made leaps and bounds toward total racial equality. We see evidence of this in the workplace, schools,
and athletics, but there are still some problems that need to be addressed. Therefore, I am writing to
you to inform you as NCAA president of the standing of the NCAA and its diversity of head coaches
in Division I football. This memo seeks to explore the idea that minorities are not fairly represented or
retained in Collegiate level head coaching positions. I will demonstrate this by showing racial
demographics, head coach position retention, assistant coach to head coach retention studies, football
position correlation to coaching positions, and social aspects.
Racial Demographics
The NCAA has made noticeable progress toward racial equality in the ratio of black to white players
in Division I football. In 2008, black athletes only made up about 36 percent of the student athlete
population in Division I football, while in the 2017 season, 39 percent of football players are black
(NCAA). If you do not include historically black colleges and universities, you see that blacks take
over whites from 46 percent on 2008 to 52 percent in 2017. All demographic data is from
