medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales.
The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period. The
physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the domain
of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were based on a
common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to women. A key
component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of taking care of
women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not dry up and she
remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was considered as a valid
reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked with her husband s honor.
Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of weakness in a man. A
disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his masculinity. A consequence of

When you think of aircraft, most likely you think of jets, helicopters, and maybe UFOs. The history of
flight has produced many varied designs because people did not know how to fly and there were
numerous ideas on how to make flight work. We are used to seeing jets and helicopters now, but in the
beginning, there were a variety of prototypes based on the needs at the time. There has actually been

The poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, was voiced by Maya Angelou herself, and the
audience hearing that she was trying to reach was the pretty women in the world who have a definition
of flawless that Maya does not agree with. She wanted her audience to know that while they may be
beautiful, that she is beautiful and flawless by her own terms and that being flawless does not only
mean being small and looking like the models in the magazines. One could argue that her audience is
all the women in the world who are not small. She is also reaching out to women who have some of
the same characteristics that she has because they are relatable. Men are also her audience as she goes
on to explain why men find her attractive, this is also a device used to show the audience that many
different cases of women can be viewed as attractive. A woman who loves herself is a woman who
will attract a man of good substance. Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, MO, and
died at the age of 86 on May 28, 2014, in Winston Salem, NC. During her time here on this earth, she
served as a famous American poet, civil rights activist and memoirist. She published seven
autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and was credited with a list of plays,
movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. Maya Angelou was well known for being a
great writer and civil rights activist, which made her receive up to thirty honorary degrees and

My Papa s Waltz And For My Daughter
Throughout the second half of this semester, we have read poems that all had some type of
comparison. It may not have been an obvious comparison, but most of these poems had at least one. In
the poems, My Papa s Waltz and For My Daughter, both describe a beloved family member. They both
put in clear detail of the positive and negative things about said family member. These poems both
describe someone misunderstanding or mistreating another. It is amazing how each of these poems can
describe or be told about a certain problem and how they all can relate in some type of way. The
reason behind that is because everyone no matter who they are all goes through the same situations as
the next person. Whether it is, gender, age, religion, race or even education, there is something that
can connect one to another. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, the narrator is the
small boy mentioned in the second line. He thoroughly describes every little thing about what his
father is doing; this shows the large amount of imagery in the poem. This connection is obviously
between a boy and his father; hence the title of the poem. Speaking of the title of the poem, it is
exactly what is named. A waltz is a song written in ¾ time, this is normally a very intimate type of
dance (Shmoop). There may be a danced being performed, but do not be fooled. Eventually, we realize

Hayao Miyazaki s oscar award winning Spirited Away was the first Japanese anime film to win an
Oscar. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award, this paper will talk about the
writing, music, and sound design of this film.
Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in Bunkyō, Tokyo. His
father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s
family had to evacuate numerous times to escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become
a manga artist when he was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew
planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958)
and began to draw more people.
Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be seen throughout his
films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself loves the idea of flying. In most of his more
famous films, things start out in a normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a
new and strange world filled with mystery and wonder.
The story of Spirited Away follows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is currently moving into a
new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new house, Chihiro s parents find an
abandoned temple like structure. The family decides to venture in and investigate the area. Chihiro is
cautious and doesn t want to go any further, but the fear of being left alone
