Essay On Macy s Department Store
In this paper, I will discuss the use of research within Macy s department store and some of the
different ways and, they might be, able to use research to help with the problems their having, if
the company is effective or ineffective in the use of research to help the organization, are they
might be using secondary and primary research, and what the company might do in the future to
expand research.
Macy and Problems
I picked Macy s for my company it was founded in 1843 and 1855 the original Macy s store is in
Haverhill, Massachusetts, by Rowland Hussey Macy, Sr. They deal in high quality Clothing,
footwear, accessories, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and housewares. Macy s has
a couple issues, but the biggest one is the dependence on the US economy for its revenue
generation, while a few of their competitors, such as The Gap and Wal Mart Stores get a lot of
their revenue from other countries, also a lot of customers are not really buying a lot of items in
the malls and are doing a lot of internet shopping for Christmas. The use of research would really
help Macy s if they researched better ways to attract people through the web by either using
surveys, or researching about how some of their competitors can stay ahead in the industry. Also,
another good thing would be to research some different countries to see if they can ... Show more

Personal Reflective Statement
You all must be asking yourselves the following: What does Kevin s eligibility for Special
Education Services have to do with his cultural identity? Specifically how growing up in a Latino
household helped him construct his educational philosophies. Think about it: Today, I would not
be determined to become the great, successful, caring, loving, firm, and knowledgeable teacher
that I am destined to become if it were not for my academic struggles that occurred early on in
my educational career. In fact, I find it pivotal for current and future teachers to realize and
understand that his or her life and educational experiences are valuable and meaningful, especially
since it can be used to make a difference in the lives of his or her students the future of this great
diverse nation. Today, I am certain that my calling is to transform my negative educational
experiences, specifically my primary schoolyears experiences into positive and life changing
teachable moments in my future elementary classroom.
Furthermore, recently, I have decided to read and analyze my eighth grade year psychological
assessment report, mainly because I like to learn more about myself, especially as a learner.
According to the report, which was completed on January 20, 2010, my overall cognitive ability
falls in the borderline range of functioning, scores fall between 71 and 81. A borderline range

Complications of Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious disease with complications that may have fatal results
in some cases. DKA is defined as an insulin deficiency that occurs when glucose fails to enter
insulin into muscles such as: liver and adipose tissue. When there is an accumulation of ketones,
it leads to metabolic acidosis which causes nausea and vomiting, as a result fluid and electrolytes
are lost (Gibbs). There are many complications of diabetic ketoacidosis, some of the most
prevalent are: Cerebral Edema, Hypoglycemia, and Acute Pancreatitis. Cerebral Edema is a rare
but fatal complication of diabetic ketoacidosis. To thoroughly describe the clinical signs of cerebral
edema is characterized by deterioration in the level of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acute Pancreatitis can be a precipitation factor for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). One example of
a case study was with a 74 year old female with a 32 year history of type 1 diabetes who presented
DKA. Although she had no abdominal pain or tenderness, her amylase and lipase levels were
elevated and peaked at values of 1,024 unites/1 (normal range 17 100 unites/1) and 3,455 units/1
(normal range 53 unites/1), The enzymes declined precipitously to normal with rehydration and
insulin administration. Calcium was 11.7 mg/dl (805 10.5) and parathyroid hormone was 232
pg/ml (10 65). It was felt that hypercalcemia, due to primary hyperparathyroidism, caused acute
pancreatitis precipitating DKA (Rizvi). Elevated lipase and amylase levels cause breakdown of
local adipose tissue. The time of increased amylase and lipase occurs 16 25% of the time in
DKA. Some reports show that nonspecific elevations of amylase in DKA. Increased serum
lipase is also assumed to indicate actual pancreatic involvement. (Rizvi) Diagnosis of acute
pancreatitis rests on the presence of abdominal pain and associated increases of amylase and lipas
(Rizvi). Proinsulin is a vaccine significant to insulin production. In a study, researchers injected 80
people who has had type 1 for up to five years with a loop of DNA containing

Persuasive Essay On Bee Bees
Imagine you walk into your local bistro to order your favorite tea with honey and you were told
there is no honey available. How would you feel? Would you want to become a beekeeper or
have a bee garden? This is why ordinary people should take action to make sure that honey bees
do not become extinct. More people need to care about this problem, and take action to prevent it
from ever happening. By putting these plans into action we can keep the beepopulation growing and
ensuring the local economy has a supply of honey. Ordinary people should become beekeepers or
create bee gardens to save the bees and the local economy.
With people doing this it will help the economy immensely. Bees are an important source of our
daily lives. The bees, pollinate many plants if it vanishes so will a huge portion of flowers and
crops. This will have a major impact on the economy as there will not be as many flowers or
food around. Restaurants benefit by being able to purchase local honey for dishes and cocktails.
If honey bees become scarce, restaurants may have to close. The restaurants would also have to
get rid of the drinks and entrees which include honey. If honey becomes scarce and restaurants
close down, it would have a major impact on the economy. Peter Spencer, who works at the
Warwickshire Beekeepers Association discusses more about the bee population and how to prevent
it in the following paragraph.
Individuals do not have to do much to keep the bee population growing. Spencer says, to attract
bees we do not have to have a garden with many flowers, but it must be planted with certain
flowers. People can construct a garden in any way imaginable, it just has to have certain flowers
that attract bees. The population of honey bees will increase and the amount of honey will too.
Our past President has also joined to help bees from becoming extinct. Since 2009, the White
House has maintained a hive of 70,000 bees that produce honey for the presidential kitchen and
pollinate the vegetables in First Lady Michelle Obama s kitchen garden. As a result of the
President doing this, it will influence many other citizens to do the same considering the President
is a major figure in the economy. There will be global

Oskar Schindler Character Analysis
Watching Schindler s list I decided to focus on Oskar Schindler. Throughout the movie Schindler
personal emotions change on the war. In the beginning we see that it was a good thing for business
that nothing else mattered as long as he made money. When Jews would come up he wouldn t care
about them because he knew he could manipulate them and earn more money since they needed
him. Schindler didn t really care for the Jewsand what would happen to them. We see that
Schindler only concern is that his business profits in the war. His concern for going to parties
were to make connection that would better his money earning business. Money was his only
concern which is why he went out seeking a jew. Since having a jew made it so they could be
payed less than a normal person and they would be to scared to not do work. If he got a Jew it
would earn him more money than hiring a German accountant. After getting an accountant he
goes and seek workers for his factory. The workers are Jews since they don t need to be payed to
be working. We later learn that his wife influences him with making business and wanting to
succeed. He came from a place where he had nothing and is just beginning to make it. Hes making
so much money he doesn t know what to do and he thanks the war for that. With his business doing
so well he starts to care about his workers. He cares about them because he needs them to continue
making the money. He starts really caring about his accountant Stern he makes sure he

Title IX Legislation In 1972
This study will investigate the question: Did the passage of the Title IX Legislation in 1972 lead
to more women going to college? The main focus of my investigation will begin during the year
of 1972, to analyze if the Title IX did lead more women going to college. The first source I have
selected for my detailed analysis is The Impact of the Title IX. Barbara Winslow produced this
sourceduring the year of 2009, to explain the major impact that the Title IX had on women. This
source is relevant to my specific investigation, because it focuses on keypoint information on the
Title IX and primarily focuses on the effect it had. This source explains how the Title IX impacted
women back then, which has relevance to my question because this... Show more content on

If it wasn t for the passing of the Title IX Legislation, many women wouldn t have the same
opportunities as they have today. Males would usually play in sports, such as football, soccer,
baseball etc. Now the participation of females have increased, and women are now given the
opportunity to play sports in college. Times have definitely changed now because of the Title
IX. If it wasn t passed in 1972, there would be chaos. Mainly because the love for sports does not
only imply toward men, but women too! Both of these quotes demonstrate the amount of women
participating in sports and are entering college is highly increasing. Not only did the Title IX
increase the opportunities that women had, but it also made women regain their confidence. The
evidence that I used within my investigation is valuable because it highlights key point
information and provides the reader with insight on the amount of women playing sports today.
However, this evidence does have its limitations. The quote does provide the percentage of
women that are athletes in college, but it also does not acknowledge the percentage of males,
which of course is still dramatically higher than the women s percentage. However, the quote
should acknowledge the amount of men who play sports in college as well. Reason being is
practically because men should be acknowledged just as much as

Ancient Greece, Democracy, Culture, And Culture
The enduring traditions and institutions that Greek culture extended to most of the Western World
include government and democracy, philosophy, literature, and architecture. Ancient Greece is the
place where modern democracy and government originated from. Democracy is a word that has
Greek origin and is defined as the government by the people to rule. Greeces form of government
was a direct democracywhere the citizens voted for their decision rather than electing people to
make the decision. Athens a Greek city state established the earliest form of democracy. Three
ruling bodies known as the Assembly, council and the Courts separated Greek democracy. The
Assembly elected certain officials and made laws. Majority rules a system in which a group with
the most votes has power was used to make decisions in the Assembly. Currently, in the United
States, the government system they use is a democracy because of Greece. A key difference
between the Greek and US democracy is that the US uses an indirect democracy, in which the
citizens vote on who should represent them. The essence of the US voting system is implemented
because Ancient Greececonducted the motion of allowing people to vote on essential matters.
When The founding fathers of the United States wrote the Constitution much impact derived from
the Athenian legislator, Draco who created the code of law for Athens. An important attribute of
Western civilization is the democratic system. Without the

Values Of Anglo Saxon Values
Anglo Saxon Values that still hold true Today. What are values? Values are things which are
important to one, and will determine one s priorities. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were
values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values,
as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true
today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful
to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what
the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because
he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to
being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf
his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of
loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the peopleshow loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can
all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t
even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or
work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. For example, in
the Dream of the Rood, (123 124) I prayed to that tree with ardent zeal, where I was alone with few

Essay on A Theater of My Own
A Theater of My Own
My grandmother, Annie was a seanchai, an Irish storyteller. She was the only great actor I have
known intimately. Her stage was the kitchen of her cottage in the West of Ireland and her stories
were about her friends and neighbors. She recreated their trials and triumphs and with her talent
for mimicry accorded each a speaking part. Her one woman show held me spellbound. She
commanded my tears and fits of laughter depending on the content of her story or dictated by a
whim. It was she who made me stage struck years before I even saw a stage.
I was thirteen before I acted my first conventional role. My high school English teacher, Mrs.

The self deprecating wit prevalent throughout his works was reminiscent of the Irish sense of
humor. I read every one of his books available in our school library and then moved on to the
Boston Public Library where I discovered the story telling gifts of his brother I.J. Singer and his
contemporary, Chaim Grade. Having exhausted the English language collection of Yiddish writers,
I became determined to explore their works in their original form.
Upon entering university, I decided to concentrate my studies on the language and literature of
Yiddish. Although no Yiddish courses were offered at Boston University, the University Professor
s Program allowed me to design my own course of study. I studied Yiddish and Hebrew at Hebrew
College, the National Yiddish Book Center, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Harvard
University.
It was Yiddish and another dynamic teacher that pointed me again toward the theater. Last year in
what was to be the most exciting and challenging course of my college career, I studied Yiddish
theater with Professor Ruth Wisse. My deepest understanding of the Yiddish languageand literature
came from her class. She began her lecture by putting a play in context and placing its author in
world literature. The second half of class was devoted to reading carefully prepared works aloud
with each student playing a different role. She pushed and prodded us until we came up with an

Osteoporosis Is Caused By The Reduction Of Bone Density...
Osteoporosis is caused by the reduction of bone density and quality; especially in the case of the
spine, hips, and wrists. It is known as the silent epidemic , because this disease has so symptoms
and is usually not noticed until a bone fracture occurs.
Some diagnostic methods are Bone mineral density measurement and classification, Peripheral dual
energy x ray absorptiometry (pDXA), CT based absorptiometry, Quantitative computed tomography
(QCT), and Quantitative ultrasound densitometry (QUS). Patients indicated for these test are ones
who qualify for high risk.
Osteoporosis is mostly found in women that are postmenopausal and in men 50 and older.
Osteoporosis happens with age, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and it can be genetically indicated.
When the body ages, bone creation is decreased, or bone degeneration is increased, or both at the
same time. Without the necessary nutrients and minerals the bones start to thin out or hollow out,
and this causes them to weaken and become fragile.
Post menopausal women and men over 50 are at the highest risk. But there are other factors to
consider. According to the clinician s guide to prevention and treatment of osteoporosis 01/2010,
there are many risk factors to consider. In regards to lifestyle factors these are common causes or
contributions to osteoporosis: Low calcium intake, high caffeine intake, alcohol (3 or more drinks

Descriptive Essay About The Cafe
The cafe is a short jaunt from our apartment, a splendid notion to someone who would rather
spend the entire day hiding in her bedroom. Adorned in our jeans, thick hoodies and jackets, we
braved the frigid weather. As soon as we departed from the building, Alice deemed it necessary
to add restraints by the use of her arm linked within mine. As we enter the cafe, the clatter of
dishes and a low din of chatter penetrates my ears, while the scent of pastries mingled with fried
food imbues my nostrils. The warm air saturates my clothing, filling me with gratitude to be out
of the cold. Beside me, Alice flattens her windswept hair as she searches for a free table. A smug
smile caresses my lips. Before we left, I tied my hair back in a messy bun to prevent the
menacing wind from ravaging my hair. As I scrutinise the cafe, I observe patrons occupy each of
the cream leathered booths. As my gaze drifts over to the counter, no stools are available to us.
A glimmer of hope materialises. What a shame, we ll have to go home where I can return to my
solitude. However, Alice obliterates that hope the moment she says, There s a free table at the
back. Come on. We slide along opposite benches beside the wide window that allows the grey sky
to filter in. After shedding from my jacket, I rest my hands on the stainless steel table and interlock
my fingers, and observe Alice as she continues to tackle with her matted hair. Though bumpy, she
did manage to tame it enough to tie back into a

The Challenge For E Learning Practitioners
While the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often used to emphasize the importance of
visuals, recent research from neuroscience reveals the science behind that saying. However, the
challenge for e learning practitioners arises when they attempt to integrate learning theory into the
design and creation of visuals and video. Although elearning practitioners and instructional
designers are educated in learningtheory, what is often overlooked is the design of effective visuals
and/or video that has a basis learning theory.
To that end, there is a difference between the way the brainremembers words and remembers
visuals. The brain has an extraordinary capacity to remember visual information. Memory
experiments with visuals have shown that people can recall seeing hundreds, even thousands, of
pictures. Pictures seem to operate as chunks and while the brain can hold only a few chunks in
working memory at a time, visual images allow the brain to hold and enlarge the scope of those
chunks. This is because visual processes evolved over millions of years, so the brain machinery is
highly efficient in storing and recalling visual information.
Humans are predominantly processors of visual information, where neuroscience has revealed
90% of what the brain processes is visual information. In Jensen s 2008 book on Brain Based
Learning, he states that 80 90% of information absorbed by the brain is visual in nature. What s

(Woodward, 2004) The Government has recognised this trend and has targeted the public through

encouragement of a healthy lifestyle through the media. (Hinchliffe, Woodward, 2004) Our
knowledge about health has also changed people are trying to find other ways of knowing about
health and illness. In the 1950s experts were treated as providing infallible information. There is
now increasing uncertainty brought about by our knowledge that experts are sometimes wrong,
for example as in the recent case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. (Goldblatt, 2004) However,
diversity means that certain groups of people are enjoying much better health than others and that
these health inequalities appear to be linked to larger socioeconomic patterns. There is a positive
correlation between the two. The links between social class and health include other factors, such
as gender and ethnicity. There is a clear and persistent social gradient in mortality rates at all ages

Stereotypes In Disney s Film Brave
Disney s famous feminist film, Brave, takes place in the Highlands of Scotland in the tenth century.
Long before authors such as Alexander MacDonald and Mary Macpherson could write their famous
poems, long before the Highland diaspora. Oftentimes, marginalized groups are pinned against one
another by the group(s) in control. Scottish tourism agencies, Visit Scotlandspecifically, were
excited for the release of Brave and created a Discover Scotland campaign that was inspired by
the film to draw tourists (Carrell). Brave seems to play into the stereotypes about Scottish people,
from the red hair, to the huge manly man, even the bears that are key to the film, have a rooted
history in Scottish folklore. In turn, the Disney film, Brave, the main character, Merida, does break

The allowance for stereotypes to be so common in Brave plays into the continued racist narrative
that affects Scottish people to this day. A viewer should be critical of the film even if it breaks
away from the patriarchal hold that has controlled Disney films for nearly a century.
To illustrate that Merida is different from any princess, the film opens with her shooting arrows
and riding a horse the way a man of the time might. Disney and Pixar did work together on this
film that at first held quite the unique premise, Merida, instead of allowing suitors to compete for
her hand in marriage, would fight for her own hand in marriage. A story that would be historically
inaccurate, but be unique and create a strong image for not only Scottish women, but women as a
whole. Rather, Disney dropped this plot line in the duration of the film to incorporate the folk
story of the Bear and the Arrow, into a mother/daughter plotline. Merida is ahead of her time as she
is a great example of Virginia Woolf s concept of the androgynous mind. The concept of the

People tend to over exaggerate the harmful effect of marijuana, some say marijuana is wrong in
many ways, including brain damage, damage to the reproductive system, and weakening of the

much harder drugs. This is not always the case all the time however. We now know significantly
more about cannabisthan most substances we eat or pharmaceutical medications we intake. Based
on my research there are many therapeutic effects and healing abilities of the drug that help with
disease and mental illness. People have developed and used marijuana for all intents and purposes
since the start of written history. Cannabisbased materials dating to 7,000 B.C.E. have been

psychoactive. Most strenuous chemicals in the plant have great therapeutic properties but do not
bring euphoria. Many compounds, specifically the cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) offset the
psychoactive properties of THC. In 2010, researchers at Harvard Medical School advocated that

Throughout Medieval history, it was common for Christian nunneries and other religious dwellings
to have periods of both, prosperity and depletion. In many cases, external factors such as patronage
and invasions greatly influenced whether or not religious houses managed to stay afloat. At
different points in time, it was common for nunneries to get looted by intruders who in some
recorded cases, not only damaged property but went as far as defiling nuns. In response, it was also
common for religious women to resort to drastic measures in order to obstruct heinous acts against
them.

Discourses Are Not Mastered By Overt Instruction Essay
There is an abundant amount of communities in the world we live in. Whether they re jobs,

with a community, disregarding the type, they all tend to have different discourses. Discourses
according to Gee are ways of being in the world; they are forms of life which integrate words,
acts, values, beliefs, attitudes, and social identities as well as gestures, glances, body positions

The Characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad Essay
The Characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad
In this essay I am going to analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad. I will also explore
the different presentational devices used by the film creators of Shrek to craft an unusual fairytale.
This film cost $6 million to produce. It is based on a traditional fairytale type story but subverted.
The film was produced by Dreamworks Steven Spielberg s production company. Dreamworks
make animated films. It has a rival animation company in the form of Disney. It was Disney who
first brought out a long animated film which was Snow White in the 1950 s.
The first computer generated animation was also brought out by Disney called Toy Story in... Show

We are astonished as the viewers as we were expecting a conventional fairytale. There is a good
use of toilet humour and it is aimed at children or teenagers. We know right from the start that Shrek
is a nice character as he has a comical impact on the film. The sort of humour makes it different
from normal, conventional fairytales and also the big, ugly ogre would normally be a nasty
creature but we know straight away that this is not the case and he proves to be quite the contrary
as the story unfolds.
At the beginning of the film Shrek tries to threaten the characters that he meets, but Donkey, the
mice, the storybook characters and Princess Fiona are not intimidated by him or his appearance. He
tries to make them frightened by reminding them that he s a scary, horrible monster. Although
Shrek is an ogre he is really nice deep down.
When the storybook characters arrive Shrek threatens to throw them all out of his swamp and back
where they came from. There is a close up shot of his mouth, this implicates that Shrek is going to
eat them or kill them and enhances the threat.
Shrek tries to frighten them by threatening them, by shouting at them and the close up shot of his
mouth develops the idea that Shrek is trying to be scary. The storybook characters applaud Shrek.

Essay on Self-Esteem
Self Esteem over Logic and Beliefs
Columbia College, Missouri
Abstract
Self Esteem gives a person the right to value themselves. Our self esteem sometimes overpowers
our logic, and can lead us to act in ways that are not always our own. This paper examines how the
following theories; Theory of Cognitive Dissonance, Self Evaluation Maintenance Theory, Self
Affirmation Theory, Rationalization Trap and Self Discrepancy Theory impact a person s self
esteem decisions. Where people in different cases come to realize that the choices they have made
overpower their superior perfect logic, they have to deal with the consequences that come along
with the choices they have made.

This clearly shows how elements of life depend on the type of knowledge and wisdom used.
When we use this knowledge and wisdom, we can better the strategies we have so that we can
achieve more. It should also be stated that individuals have different ways of looking at conflicts
or situations. Because of this vast difference, the way they accomplish tasks differs as well. Note
that when someone does not carry out his strategies well, they are bound to fail.
Theory of Cognitive Dissonance Cognitive dissonance can be defined as a feeling of
discomfort caused by performing an action that runs counter to one s customary (typically
positive) conception of oneself (Aronson, Wilson amp; Akert, 2010). The body s natural way of
keeping one s self esteem high is to counteract that by either changing our actions or to talk
ourselves into believing that what we have done was the right thing to do in the moment (2010).
For example, a female student chooses to take a job stripping in a night club after spending three
months looking for a job. She struggles with this decision mentally because she was raised in a
strict, religious household. Her up bringing and the need to pay tuition become two points that
challenge her positive self esteem. The female student will make concessions to her beliefs to keep
her self esteem high saying things like this is my only choice so

Examples Of Courtroom Observation
On Thursday, February 2, 2017 I observed the Court of Common Pleas in Athens, Ohio for an
hour and a half. Overseen by Judge Pat Lang in Courtroom B. I arrived to the courthouse around
8:55 a.m. I entered the building from the right side, underneath the stairs. To my immediate
right, there was an officer and a metal detector I had to walk through before coming any further.
I put the loose things I was carrying through the x ray conveyor belt and collected them on the
other side. I asked the officer where Courtroom B was and he kindly directed me to the 3rd floor.
I took the elevator to the third floor and when the doors opened I walked out and to the left. There

or to hear from their attorneys. Some people looked distressed and others were talking amongst

them. One of the women signed for a continuance and left the building. The other woman had to
pay a fine and she was also out pretty quickly. A few minutes passed and another public defender

one case the prosecutor did not show up. The defendant was arguing over the weight of the

Merciless Death in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
In The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, Katherine Anne Porter gives readers a glimpse of the thoughts
of a woman about to die. Lying in her bed in her daughter Cornelia s house, eighty year old Granny
Weatherall drifts in and out of consciousness. Through her thoughts of events both current and
bygone, it is learned that Granny has worked hard all her life, and frequently tells herself that she
did a good job. She thinks of events that made her stronger: digging holes for fence posts, riding
country roads in the winter when women had their babies (311), taking care of sick animals and sick
children. Though Granny Weatheralltries to assure herself that her life has been ... Show more

She tells herself that she must go through that box, because the thought of her children finding
out how silly she had been once (310) disturbs her. She never specified what was to be done with
the amethyst set or her land. She had six bottles of wine that she intended to give to Sister Borgia
for her dyspepsia (314). Granny begins to panic when she becomes aware that although she had
spent so much time preparing for death (310), it took her by surprise.
By the time her final hours arrive, Granny Weatherall has grown tired of people treating her like
a child. Cornelia constantly whispers to people about her as if she cannot hear. Cornelia warns
people that Granny is getting childish and they d have to humor her (310), and she often reminds
anyone within hearing distance of Granny s age. Doctor Harry is also prone to speaking to
Granny in a tone that she interprets as condescending, prompting her to reprimand him to show
some respect for his elders. The type of behavior displayed by Cornelia and Doctor Harry leaves
Granny terribly annoyed.
Between all the other odds and ends that come to her mind, Granny most often thinks of those
she loved who were no longer with her. She thinks of John, the father of her children, who would
be a child beside her if she saw him now (311), indicating that he had died at a rather young age.

Ernest J. Gaines A Gathering Of Old Men
In the book, A Gathering of Old Men , by Ernest J. Gaines, there are some events that
corresponds to issues Malcom X responds to in his speech The Ballot or the Bullet . Mathu s
believes in his respect as an equal person and gains it by not fearing white people. However, the
preacher Jameson fears the whites and is scared of the consequences of standing up to them. In
the book, times have changed and racism is slowly dying. In the story, A Gathering of Old Men ,
Mathu was a character that was respected, because he feared no one. When Beau was shot dead
on Mathu s lawn, he stated, If Fix started anything, I am going to protect myself (Gaines30). Being
that Fix is a white man, going against a white man at that time can lead blacks into a lot of trouble,
such as being lynched. Yet, Mathu was still prepared for the fight. If Mathu did not have the respect
he has, then he would have been lynched the moment he and Fix had the altercation at the store.
According to the text, When Fix told Mathu to take the bottle back in the store again, and Mathu
did not, Fix hit him and the fight was on (Gaines30). Mathu gained his respect, because he refused
to be mistreated by anyone. According to the book, To Mapes, Mathu was a real man (Gaines84).
Mapes thought this because Mathu was not like the other African Americans he knew due to Mathu
actually defending himself. Even though Mathu stoop up for himself, he wanted for the other

The Evil Character Of Iago
Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown
through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed
through the imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters,
though different in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and
how they represent a different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray
themselves as kind, caring, and honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest
and malevolent. They also all have the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct
reason to, only their own desire to do so. While good is self producing and improving, evil is self
destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as an evil character, holds many similarities to other
wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago
to display the different forms evil can take on such as being hidden behind false intentions, turning
into an image of good, and its destructive nature resulting into its own end.
In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often
called Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is
hidden behind. Iago, when speaking to Rodrigo about his honorable position, he reveals his true
intentions behind what he does in his position by saying,

A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright
A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some
point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a
woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises
the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout
history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who
listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting
anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for
her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants
and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own
happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again
women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years
popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or
personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make
him happy and feel good. Even in current films and media women are still being portrayed as one
dimensional props whose only purpose is to look pretty and be agreeable. That is why watching the
movie Carol by Todd Haynes felt like a breath of

The Assemblies of God is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations, with 57 million adherents

had been influenced by the Pentecostal revivals of the early 1900s, revivals which were the
result of a desire to see an increase in God s power in churches and individuals. Many people
spent long hours in prayer, seeking a fresh infusion of the Spirit. Following the teachings of
Charles Parham, these people were expecting speaking in tongues as an evidence of the Holy Spirits

I mostly have acquaintances, people who I would talk to but won t tell them personal stuff.
Anyways my physical health isn t the best. I keep having of back pains, and sometimes chest
pains that hurt like crazy. That is why my resolution is to exercise. I m starting in Spring where I
can do much more stuff like play sports and go walking. It s also a great thing that I m in gym, if
I wasn t I wouldn t know about all the problems that could happen to me if I kept being lazy. I
judge my behaviors have something to do with my problems.
It is important to think about your behaviors because you need think about how it will affect you
and the other person. If you call someone ugly and say just kidding you don t know how that
person will feel about you saying that. The person might be laughing now, but later they will look
back at that comment and start thinking about if they are ugly or not. There are people who can
take jokes, there are people who can t. Just put together who is and isn t. There are times in class
when you are learning something, and there is that one person who wants to talk in class when you
re learning. They aren t thinking about how they are making others feel, just themselves. When you
say something they start getting defensive for no reason. That s why you don t say something. You

Pride And Corronment In Beowulf And Lanval
Pride is a trait everyone poses, but is having pride and being boastful a double edge sword? Pride
and boasting are something that appears in many different characters with different manifestations
through literature. In Beowulf and Lanval , the pride and boastfulness are demonstrated as both a
strength and weakness. Having the pride to boast caused many issues for Beowulf, Lanval and the
Queen Guinevere.
Beowulf starts boasting as soon as he is introduced to the King Hrothgar. Beowulf tells him, ...
every elder and experience councilman / among my people supported my resolve / to come here
to you, King Hrothgar / because all knew of my awesome strength (Beowulf 415 18). His
boasting grants him an opportunity to battle Grendel. Later on, after he actually fights Grendel
he proudly hangs Grendel s arm in the wall to prove just how great he is. Clear proof of this
Could be seen in the hand the hero displayed High up near the roof: the whole of Grendel s
Shoulder and arm, his awesome grasp (Beowulf 832 35), this is an example of symbolic
boasting because it represents one of his greatest accomplishments. Beowulf makes many boast,
time after time he boast about all his glories. He slowly starts to get more and more prideful till
his very end. The Queen Guinevere s pride was wounded when she gets rejected by Lanval.
Queen Guinevere offers herself to Lanval saying he could have anything he desires. Lanval rejects
her by telling her he won t betray his king and that he

Why Small Firms Having An Understanding Of The...
Within this essay I will be discussing the possibility of small firms having an understanding of the
characteristics of international business and not just only the large firms. This is because small
businesses are always looked down and people have a misconception that only larger firms choose
to go globally.
Every business needs to have a mission and objectives and need to know what affects them
environmentally and within their organisation. If they understand what is happening within the
organisation, they can proceed to strategy formulation and can start planning and operate.
According to the journalist of New York Times, Thomas Friedman, international businesses are a
set of interrelated processes rather than a single process and call it a flattening process . This
means that countries like China and India are able to become contributors in international business
par with the richer industrialized countries. It is a commercial transaction that crosses the borders
of more than two nations. In everyday life, imports, goods or services that are purchased abroad
and brought into a country surround us. The same can be said about exports, where countries
abroad will be using your nation s goods and services.
International business is incredibly crucial as it contains a huge and growing percentage of the
world s over all business. It is not something that can be ignored, because almost every company;
whether the size of it, is affected by international events and its

Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain
A man faced with his fatality will quiver and beg for mercy. Anders, from Bullet in the Brain , is
unique in that he faces death with laughter and sarcasm. The short story by Tobias Wolff portrays
a man named Anders being shot during a bank robbery after ignoring the threats of the robbers (In
Text Cite). Through descriptions of the protagonist and his speech with other characters, Anders
shows signs of schizophrenia. Before the shooting, the narrator describes Anders and his
interactions with other people at the bank. In the first paragraph, Anders looks at the two women
in front of him with a murderous temper (In Text Cite) and is described as criticizing books with
savagery (In Text Cite). Anders is also angry with the girl in front of him when she whines about
the teller closing their window, telling her she is overdramatic. Most people would be slightly
annoyed with these interactions, but murder would never come to mind.
The robbers and their interaction further support the idea that Anders is crazy. When the robbers
enter the bank, they wearing blue business suits. Blue often represents sadness, which is a common
symptom burdened upon those with schizophrenia. When the robbers begin threatening the
hostages, Anders tells the woman, Great script, eh? (In Text Cite). This line shows an inappropriate
response to the threat presented. Normal individuals would panic at the sight of a gun, but Anders
seems to think the robbery is a joke or a game. Anders also

Analysis Of Beneath Clouds
The notion of the contemporary indigenous identity and the impact of these notions are both
explored in texts that have been studied. Ivan Sen s 2002 film Beneath Clouds focuses on the
stereotypical behaviours of Indigenous Australians highlighting Lina and Vaughn s journey. This
also signifies the status and place of the Australian identity today. Through the use of visual
techniques and stereotypes the ideas that the Indigenous are uneducated, involved in crime and the
stereotypical portrayal of white people are all explored. Similarly the notion of urban and rural life
is represented in Kennith Slessor s William Street and Country Towns .
In contemporary times the Indigenous are stereotypically represented as being violent and
aggressive. Sen is creating a stereotypical image of young Indigenous boys as criminals and
dominative. An extreme close up of Vaughn behind jail bars show the separation between Vaughn
and society. The stereotype of Indigenous Australiansas criminals is shown in a negative light and
acts as a false stereotype. The jail bars act as a physical and metaphorical barrier and the use of
non diegetic music sets a mood of extreme sadness. Domestic violence is also suggested in the car
ride. The women with the child is seen as submissive and this violence acts as usual practise.
However, Vaughn does not appear to this stereotype of all males being dominative. Sen s use of
camera angles highlights the stereotypical nature of indigenous people and

Argumentative Essay On Abolish The Penny
Pennies are one of America s oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that
it has no wealth. America s classic coin the penny, is beginning to prove to be a second rate coin
when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves
to be completely counterproductive in today s society. After debating of whether or not the penny
should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny is worthless, easily replaceable, and a
waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely
worthless to the modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the
amount range of the penny. In Abolish the Penny William Safire writes that, You can t buy
anything with a penny any more. Penny candy? Not for sale at the five and dime (which is now a
dollar store)...Any vending machines? Put a penny in it and it will sound an alarm. Clearly, there
is an irony when it comes to penny candy, when you can t even use your one centcointo purchase
said sweets. When it all comes down to the bottom line, pennies can t be even remotely used to
purchase any goods because of it s problematic value; it s mostly useless. Even the press
secretary, Neena Moorjani, also believes the idea that the penny is practically useless in everyday
society (source A). blah blah put what needs to be put here cause i have no idea? Not only are

How Blended Families Are Created From A Diverse Needs And...
Topic
Blended families are created from a diverse sets of needs as a result of family life changes, such as
divorce or death, and these changes result in situations where both adults and children find
themselves living with step family members stemming from both sides of the no longer intact
family structure. Deal (2014), a leading author and marriage therapist, likens the blended family to a
3 D puzzle that a person is trying to complete without the benefit of instructions or even a picture as
a point of reference. Each family is different in roles and their structure; however, most members
desire healthy outcomes and basic principles for creating well functioning family units.
Interviewees
Married in the 2007, Bill and Dawn (which are not their real names, as they require anonymity to
protect their children), currently have four children. Bill brought two children (a 9 year old son
and an 8 year old daughter) into the marriage, and Bill and Dawn now have two biological
children (a 7 year old daughter and a 4 year old daughter). The insight that they bring to the topic
of blended families comes from the past nine years of striving to create a healthy family unit. .
History
According to Lisa Zeleznikow and John Zeleznikow (2015), over 40% of adults in the United
States have at least one step relative living with them. This style of family unit is not a new
phenomenon, as even in biblical times the accounts of Abraham and Jacob illustrate the realities of

1996. Burton s investigators tracked down Walker s friend, Daniel Pennington who was drinking
outside of another friend s house near the Amoco station during the time of Ball s murder. It was
confirmed that Walker could of not identify the shooter since where they were standing, the
shooting could not be seen and the fact that he had poor eyesight and never wore his glasses while
drinking confirmed that he would have not been able to see the shooter due to different factors not
being in his favor.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Good And Evil In Jekyll And Hyde
This extract doesn t only describes the transformation but also gives it a religious meaning
through its Manichean qualification and its transcendental stakes Here is presented a Manichaean
(from Manichaeism) view of the world, for Dr Jekyll opposes himself as the good (meaning a
balance of good and evil) and My Hyde as pure evil. This is demonstrated by the abundance of the
qualifier evil for Hyde: sold a slave to my original evil , was pure evil , my evil or one was wholly
evil . Although Dr Jekyll also makes clear this opposition The evil side of my nature (...) was less
robust and less developed than the good which I had just deposed meaning the good being Dr

Desiree s Baby, By Kate Chopin
In Kate Chopin s short story, Desiree s Baby, she tells the story through the eyes of the characters.
This story is told in the omniscient point of view. The omniscient point of view means that the
storyteller knows all of the thoughts and emotions of all the characters throughout the story. In the
nineteenth century there was a lot of racial discrimination against African Americans. The
protagonist is Desiree; she is formed throughout the many situations in the short story. She is fought
by the antagonist, Armand Aubigny. He is described, as a cruel, arrogant man who, likely, would
never admit he was wrong. At the end of this story Armand s assumptions and inferences catch up
to him. An inferenceis nothing more than a guess, an assumption. Inferring does not always get us
in trouble and it would almost be impossible to not assume throughout an entire day. Unfortunately,
making some inferences can have serious consequences. There are is a lot of foreshadowing
throughout the short story that tells us that Armand has black ancestry. There is a key part of
foreshadowing, there is another form of foreshadowing when Madame Valmonde says, the child has
grown, has changed. This is another monstrous form of foreshadowing, that there is something
different about this child and that we will find out what is different later in the story.
It had never hit Desiree that her baby was black until one day, The baby, half naked, lay
asleep...One of La Blanche s little quadroon

Did You Ever Encounter A Situation That Has Changed Your
Did you ever encounter a situation that has changed your view on life? Whether it be something
that happened to you or someone very close to you. Sometimes i do not think that people fully
understand what an impact they have on other people. About four years ago i thought the best thing
that could ever happen, happened to me. Until later years, i found out that it would end up being
the thing that would hurt me the most in life. I used to think trustwas a cut and dry situation, but it
is different in every case. Trust plays a big role in most people s life and when you break that
trust there is not much a person can do to gain it back. I am one of those people that either give all
or no trust with my personal feelings. My parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before they got all the way over to us i can remember my dad leaning down and saying you need
to be nice to these kids. I can remember thinking to myself why the heck do i need to be nice to
some kids i do not even know? Little did i know then that they would be a big part of my life for
the next three years. Knowing that i only meet girlfriends if it is serious, i knew that since i met
her kids that it was extra serious. Dawn and my dad started dating my freshman year in high
school. Dawn, Kait, and Benny moved in with my dad because traveling from Avella to Eighty
Four everyday was a haul and a half. Being as i did not want to be left out i moved in also, so i
could be closer to everyone. I had never saw my dad as happy as he was with everyone there
under one roof. Yes, i made my dad happy but i could not describe the vibe he gave off. My dad
did anything and everything to make Dawn happy. He tore apart our house and built a brand
new addition to our house for her business to be run out of. As the days went by Kait, Benny, and
I got super close. We did everything together, from going to school, to eating dinner, and playing
outside. Three peas in a pod you could even say. As i got close to Kait and Ben i also got close
with Dawn, she was like a second mom to me in so many different ways. Towards the end of their
relationship they started to have problems. She wanted another kid and he did not. So Dawn left for

The use of research would really help Macy s if they researched better ways to attract people through the web by either using surveys, or researching about how some of their competitors can stay ahead in the industry. Also, another good thing would be to research some different countries to see if they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Personal Reflective Statement You all must be asking yourselves the following: What does Kevin s eligibility for Special Education Services have to do with his cultural identity? Specifically how growing up in a Latino household helped him construct his educational philosophies. Think about it: Today, I would not be determined to become the great, successful, caring, loving, firm, and knowledgeable teacher that I am destined to become if it were not for my academic struggles that occurred early on in my educational career. In fact, I find it pivotal for current and future teachers to realize and understand that his or her life and educational experiences are valuable and meaningful, especially since it can be used to make a difference in the lives of his or her students the future of this great diverse nation. Today, I am certain that my calling is to transform my negative educational experiences, specifically my primary schoolyears experiences into positive and life changing teachable moments in my future elementary classroom. Furthermore, recently, I have decided to read and analyze my eighth grade year psychological assessment report, mainly because I like to learn more about myself, especially as a learner. According to the report, which was completed on January 20, 2010, my overall cognitive ability falls in the borderline range of functioning, scores fall between 71 and 81. • 6. Complications of Diabetic Ketoacidosis Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious disease with complications that may have fatal results in some cases. DKA is defined as an insulin deficiency that occurs when glucose fails to enter insulin into muscles such as: liver and adipose tissue. When there is an accumulation of ketones, it leads to metabolic acidosis which causes nausea and vomiting, as a result fluid and electrolytes are lost (Gibbs). There are many complications of diabetic ketoacidosis, some of the most prevalent are: Cerebral Edema, Hypoglycemia, and Acute Pancreatitis. Cerebral Edema is a rare but fatal complication of diabetic ketoacidosis. To thoroughly describe the clinical signs of cerebral edema is characterized by deterioration in the level of... One example of a case study was with a 74 year old female with a 32 year history of type 1 diabetes who presented DKA. Although she had no abdominal pain or tenderness, her amylase and lipase levels were elevated and peaked at values of 1,024 unites/1 (normal range 17 100 unites/1) and 3,455 units/1 (normal range 53 unites/1), The enzymes declined precipitously to normal with rehydration and insulin administration. Calcium was 11.7 mg/dl (805 10.5) and parathyroid hormone was 232 pg/ml (10 65). It was felt that hypercalcemia, due to primary hyperparathyroidism, caused acute pancreatitis precipitating DKA (Rizvi). Elevated lipase and amylase levels cause breakdown of local adipose tissue. The time of increased amylase and lipase occurs 16 25% of the time in DKA. Some reports show that nonspecific elevations of amylase in DKA. Increased serum lipase is also assumed to indicate actual pancreatic involvement. (Rizvi) Diagnosis of acute pancreatitis rests on the presence of abdominal pain and associated increases of amylase and lipas (Rizvi). Proinsulin is a vaccine significant to insulin production. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Bee Bees Imagine you walk into your local bistro to order your favorite tea with honey and you were told there is no honey available. How would you feel? Would you want to become a beekeeper or have a bee garden? This is why ordinary people should take action to make sure that honey bees do not become extinct. More people need to care about this problem, and take action to prevent it from ever happening. By putting these plans into action we can keep the beepopulation growing and ensuring the local economy has a supply of honey. Ordinary people should become beekeepers or create bee gardens to save the bees and the local economy. With people doing this it will help the economy immensely. Bees are an important source of our daily lives. The bees, pollinate many plants if it vanishes so will a huge portion of flowers and crops. This will have a major impact on the economy as there will not be as many flowers or food around. Restaurants benefit by being able to purchase local honey for dishes and cocktails. If honey bees become scarce, restaurants may have to close. The restaurants would also have to get rid of the drinks and entrees which include honey. If honey becomes scarce and restaurants close down, it would have a major impact on the economy. Peter Spencer, who works at the Warwickshire Beekeepers Association discusses more about the bee population and how to prevent it in the following paragraph. Individuals do not have to do much to keep the bee population growing. Spencer says, to attract bees we do not have to have a garden with many flowers, but it must be planted with certain flowers. People can construct a garden in any way imaginable, it just has to have certain flowers that attract bees. The population of honey bees will increase and the amount of honey will too. Our past President has also joined to help bees from becoming extinct. Since 2009, the White House has maintained a hive of 70,000 bees that produce honey for the presidential kitchen and pollinate the vegetables in First Lady Michelle Obama s kitchen garden. As a result of the President doing this, it will influence many other citizens to do the same considering the President is a major figure in the economy. There will be global ... • 8. Oskar Schindler Character Analysis Watching Schindler s list I decided to focus on Oskar Schindler. Throughout the movie Schindler personal emotions change on the war. In the beginning we see that it was a good thing for business that nothing else mattered as long as he made money. When Jews would come up he wouldn t care about them because he knew he could manipulate them and earn more money since they needed him. Schindler didn t really care for the Jewsand what would happen to them. We see that Schindler only concern is that his business profits in the war. His concern for going to parties were to make connection that would better his money earning business. Money was his only concern which is why he went out seeking a jew. Since having a jew made it so they could be payed less than a normal person and they would be to scared to not do work. If he got a Jew it would earn him more money than hiring a German accountant. After getting an accountant he goes and seek workers for his factory. The workers are Jews since they don t need to be payed to be working. We later learn that his wife influences him with making business and wanting to succeed. He came from a place where he had nothing and is just beginning to make it. Hes making so much money he doesn t know what to do and he thanks the war for that. With his business doing so well he starts to care about his workers. The main focus of my investigation will begin during the year of 1972, to analyze if the Title IX did lead more women going to college. The first source I have selected for my detailed analysis is The Impact of the Title IX. Barbara Winslow produced this sourceduring the year of 2009, to explain the major impact that the Title IX had on women. This source is relevant to my specific investigation, because it focuses on keypoint information on the Title IX and primarily focuses on the effect it had. This source explains how the Title IX impacted women back then, which has relevance to my question because this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it wasn t for the passing of the Title IX Legislation, many women wouldn t have the same opportunities as they have today. Males would usually play in sports, such as football, soccer, baseball etc. Now the participation of females have increased, and women are now given the opportunity to play sports in college. Times have definitely changed now because of the Title IX. If it wasn t passed in 1972, there would be chaos. Mainly because the love for sports does not only imply toward men, but women too! Both of these quotes demonstrate the amount of women participating in sports and are entering college is highly increasing. Not only did the Title IX increase the opportunities that women had, but it also made women regain their confidence. The evidence that I used within my investigation is valuable because it highlights key point information and provides the reader with insight on the amount of women playing sports today. However, this evidence does have its limitations. The quote does provide the percentage of women that are athletes in college, but it also does not acknowledge the percentage of males, which of course is still dramatically higher than the women s percentage. However, the quote should acknowledge the amount of men who play sports in college as well. Reason being is practically because men should be acknowledged just as much as ... • 10. Ancient Greece, Democracy, Culture, And Culture The enduring traditions and institutions that Greek culture extended to most of the Western World include government and democracy, philosophy, literature, and architecture. Ancient Greece is the place where modern democracy and government originated from. Democracy is a word that has Greek origin and is defined as the government by the people to rule. Greeces form of government was a direct democracywhere the citizens voted for their decision rather than electing people to make the decision. Athens a Greek city state established the earliest form of democracy. Three ruling bodies known as the Assembly, council and the Courts separated Greek democracy. The Assembly elected certain officials and made laws. Majority rules a system in which a group with the most votes has power was used to make decisions in the Assembly. Currently, in the United States, the government system they use is a democracy because of Greece. A key difference between the Greek and US democracy is that the US uses an indirect democracy, in which the citizens vote on who should represent them. The essence of the US voting system is implemented because Ancient Greececonducted the motion of allowing people to vote on essential matters. When The founding fathers of the United States wrote the Constitution much impact derived from the Athenian legislator, Draco who created the code of law for Athens. An important attribute of Western civilization is the democratic system. Without the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Values Of Anglo Saxon Values Anglo Saxon Values that still hold true Today. What are values? Values are things which are important to one, and will determine one s priorities. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values, as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the peopleshow loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. For example, in the Dream of the Rood, (123 124) I prayed to that tree with ardent zeal, where I was alone with few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay on A Theater of My Own A Theater of My Own My grandmother, Annie was a seanchai, an Irish storyteller. She was the only great actor I have known intimately. Her stage was the kitchen of her cottage in the West of Ireland and her stories were about her friends and neighbors. She recreated their trials and triumphs and with her talent for mimicry accorded each a speaking part. Her one woman show held me spellbound. She commanded my tears and fits of laughter depending on the content of her story or dictated by a whim. It was she who made me stage struck years before I even saw a stage. I was thirteen before I acted my first conventional role. My high school English teacher, Mrs. Doyle, directed us in Strindberg s Motherlove. I played the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The self deprecating wit prevalent throughout his works was reminiscent of the Irish sense of humor. I read every one of his books available in our school library and then moved on to the Boston Public Library where I discovered the story telling gifts of his brother I.J. Singer and his contemporary, Chaim Grade. Having exhausted the English language collection of Yiddish writers, I became determined to explore their works in their original form. Upon entering university, I decided to concentrate my studies on the language and literature of Yiddish. Although no Yiddish courses were offered at Boston University, the University Professor s Program allowed me to design my own course of study. I studied Yiddish and Hebrew at Hebrew College, the National Yiddish Book Center, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Harvard University. It was Yiddish and another dynamic teacher that pointed me again toward the theater. Last year in what was to be the most exciting and challenging course of my college career, I studied Yiddish theater with Professor Ruth Wisse. My deepest understanding of the Yiddish languageand literature came from her class. She began her lecture by putting a play in context and placing its author in world literature. The second half of class was devoted to reading carefully prepared works aloud with each student playing a different role. She pushed and prodded us until we came up with an intelligent and original

It is known as the silent epidemic , because this disease has so symptoms and is usually not noticed until a bone fracture occurs. Some diagnostic methods are Bone mineral density measurement and classification, Peripheral dual energy x ray absorptiometry (pDXA), CT based absorptiometry, Quantitative computed tomography (QCT), and Quantitative ultrasound densitometry (QUS). Patients indicated for these test are ones who qualify for high risk. Osteoporosis is mostly found in women that are postmenopausal and in men 50 and older. Osteoporosis happens with age, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and it can be genetically indicated. When the body ages, bone creation is decreased, or bone degeneration is increased, or both at the same time. Without the necessary nutrients and minerals the bones start to thin out or hollow out, and this causes them to weaken and become fragile. Post menopausal women and men over 50 are at the highest risk. But there are other factors to consider. According to the clinician s guide to prevention and treatment of osteoporosis 01/2010, there are many risk factors to consider. In regards to lifestyle factors these are common causes or contributions to osteoporosis: Low calcium intake, high caffeine intake, alcohol (3 or more drinks /per day)smoking ( active or passive) vitamin D insufficiency, high salt intake, inadequate ... • 15. Descriptive Essay About The Cafe The cafe is a short jaunt from our apartment, a splendid notion to someone who would rather spend the entire day hiding in her bedroom. Adorned in our jeans, thick hoodies and jackets, we braved the frigid weather. As soon as we departed from the building, Alice deemed it necessary to add restraints by the use of her arm linked within mine. As we enter the cafe, the clatter of dishes and a low din of chatter penetrates my ears, while the scent of pastries mingled with fried food imbues my nostrils. The warm air saturates my clothing, filling me with gratitude to be out of the cold. Beside me, Alice flattens her windswept hair as she searches for a free table. A smug smile caresses my lips. Before we left, I tied my hair back in a messy bun to prevent the menacing wind from ravaging my hair. As I scrutinise the cafe, I observe patrons occupy each of the cream leathered booths. As my gaze drifts over to the counter, no stools are available to us. A glimmer of hope materialises. What a shame, we ll have to go home where I can return to my solitude. However, Alice obliterates that hope the moment she says, There s a free table at the back. Come on. We slide along opposite benches beside the wide window that allows the grey sky to filter in. After shedding from my jacket, I rest my hands on the stainless steel table and interlock my fingers, and observe Alice as she continues to tackle with her matted hair. • 16. The Challenge For E Learning Practitioners While the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often used to emphasize the importance of visuals, recent research from neuroscience reveals the science behind that saying. However, the challenge for e learning practitioners arises when they attempt to integrate learning theory into the design and creation of visuals and video. Although elearning practitioners and instructional designers are educated in learningtheory, what is often overlooked is the design of effective visuals and/or video that has a basis learning theory. To that end, there is a difference between the way the brainremembers words and remembers visuals. The brain has an extraordinary capacity to remember visual information. Memory experiments with visuals have shown that people can recall seeing hundreds, even thousands, of pictures. Pictures seem to operate as chunks and while the brain can hold only a few chunks in working memory at a time, visual images allow the brain to hold and enlarge the scope of those chunks. This is because visual processes evolved over millions of years, so the brain machinery is highly efficient in storing and recalling visual information. Humans are predominantly processors of visual information, where neuroscience has revealed 90% of what the brain processes is visual information. In Jensen s 2008 book on Brain Based Learning, he states that 80 90% of information absorbed by the brain is visual in nature. What s more, the brain processes visual information ... Oftentimes, marginalized groups are pinned against one another by the group(s) in control. Scottish tourism agencies, Visit Scotlandspecifically, were excited for the release of Brave and created a Discover Scotland campaign that was inspired by the film to draw tourists (Carrell). The allowance for stereotypes to be so common in Brave plays into the continued racist narrative that affects Scottish people to this day. A viewer should be critical of the film even if it breaks away from the patriarchal hold that has controlled Disney films for nearly a century. To illustrate that Merida is different from any princess, the film opens with her shooting arrows and riding a horse the way a man of the time might. Disney and Pixar did work together on this film that at first held quite the unique premise, Merida, instead of allowing suitors to compete for her hand in marriage, would fight for her own hand in marriage. A story that would be historically inaccurate, but be unique and create a strong image for not only Scottish women, but women as a whole. Rather, Disney dropped this plot line in the duration of the film to incorporate the folk story of the Bear and the Arrow, into a mother/daughter plotline. Everything is part of it s own particular community. When associated with a community, disregarding the type, they all tend to have different discourses. Discourses according to Gee are ways of being in the world; they are forms of life which integrate words, acts, values, beliefs, attitudes, and social identities as well as gestures, glances, body positions and clothes. (Gee 5) He compares it to an identity kit because we act a certain way according to the particular environment we are in so others can recognize who we are and what we are addressing. Furthermore, he explains how we acquire discourses. Discourses are not mastered by overt instruction...but by enculturation into social practices through scaffolded and supported interaction with people who have already mastered the Discourse. (Gee 7) This is how we acquire most our home based discourse (Gee 7) We learn what is acceptable and what isn t acceptable by socializing within the community. • 27. The Evil Character Of Iago Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed through the imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters, though different in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and how they represent a different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray themselves as kind, caring, and honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest and malevolent. They also all have the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct reason to, only their own desire to do so. While good is self producing and improving, evil is self destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as an evil character, holds many similarities to other wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago to display the different forms evil can take on such as being hidden behind false intentions, turning into an image of good, and its destructive nature resulting into its own end. In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often called Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is hidden behind. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make him happy and feel good. • 45. Why Small Firms Having An Understanding Of The... Within this essay I will be discussing the possibility of small firms having an understanding of the characteristics of international business and not just only the large firms. This is because small businesses are always looked down and people have a misconception that only larger firms choose to go globally. Every business needs to have a mission and objectives and need to know what affects them environmentally and within their organisation. If they understand what is happening within the organisation, they can proceed to strategy formulation and can start planning and operate. According to the journalist of New York Times, Thomas Friedman, international businesses are a set of interrelated processes rather than a single process and call it a flattening process . This means that countries like China and India are able to become contributors in international business par with the richer industrialized countries. It is a commercial transaction that crosses the borders of more than two nations. In everyday life, imports, goods or services that are purchased abroad and brought into a country surround us. The same can be said about exports, where countries abroad will be using your nation s goods and services. • 47. Analysis Of Beneath Clouds The notion of the contemporary indigenous identity and the impact of these notions are both explored in texts that have been studied. Ivan Sen s 2002 film Beneath Clouds focuses on the stereotypical behaviours of Indigenous Australians highlighting Lina and Vaughn s journey. This also signifies the status and place of the Australian identity today. Through the use of visual techniques and stereotypes the ideas that the Indigenous are uneducated, involved in crime and the stereotypical portrayal of white people are all explored. Similarly the notion of urban and rural life is represented in Kennith Slessor s William Street and Country Towns . In contemporary times the Indigenous are stereotypically represented as being violent and aggressive. Sen is creating a stereotypical image of young Indigenous boys as criminals and dominative. An extreme close up of Vaughn behind jail bars show the separation between Vaughn and society. The stereotype of Indigenous Australiansas criminals is shown in a negative light and acts as a false stereotype. The jail bars act as a physical and metaphorical barrier and the use of non diegetic music sets a mood of extreme sadness. Domestic violence is also suggested in the car ride. The women with the child is seen as submissive and this violence acts as usual practise. However, Vaughn does not appear to this stereotype of all males being dominative. • 48. Argumentative Essay On Abolish The Penny Pennies are one of America s oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that it has no wealth. America s classic coin the penny, is beginning to prove to be a second rate coin when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves to be completely counterproductive in today s society. After debating of whether or not the penny should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny is worthless, easily replaceable, and a waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely worthless to the modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the amount range of the penny. In Abolish the Penny William Safire writes that, You can t buy anything with a penny any more. Penny candy? Not for sale at the five and dime (which is now a dollar store)...Any vending machines? Put a penny in it and it will sound an alarm. Clearly, there is an irony when it comes to penny candy, when you can t even use your one centcointo purchase said sweets. When it all comes down to the bottom line, pennies can t be even remotely used to purchase any goods because of it s problematic value; it s mostly useless.
