American Attitudes Towards The Poor Essay
Today s news is full of speculation and debate about the national debt, taxes and potential cuts to
vital programs that serve those in need. However, the conversation often seems overly caught up in
the finer points of politics and media coverage rather than the real people that these decisions
affect. I think it s fair to say that American attitudes toward the poor are more often than not,
disdain and fear. There s a common myth that people are forced into povertybecause they are
simply lazy or inferior, the truth is it is harder to feed and clothe your family than ever before.
Poverty in this country is not accidental, it is a direct result of funneling wealth upstream; the rich
get richer and the poor suffer. The poor you will always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is time to be ashamed (Shipler 300). According to Shipler, many of these people are just a step
away from catastrophe. A brief illness, trouble with their car, or disrupted child care can bring about
the end of their employment.
America s perception of how life should be is affecting the way we see other people in our
environment as well as other countries. Many Americans are working at low paying, dead end
jobs that will never give them a chance to improve their status in the marketplace, every day
necessities eat up the small income these people do get. Poverty is like a bleeding wound. It
weakens the defenses. It lowers resistance. It attracts predators (Shipler 18). Look around, in
every city neighborhood and small town is a title loan or pay day loan store charging ridiculous
interest rates but promising financial freedom to those that just ask. This is just a form legal loan
sharking. This is such a lucrative business that native American Indian tribes buy time on television
to promote their no collateral loans with interest rates at or above 400 percent and a toll free
number to call.
We live in a country that was founded on the principle that guarantees all people are created equal
and they have the right to pursue their own happiness. Lower paying jobs, fewer benefits and little
advancement opportunity make this concept idealistic at best. The American Dream has caused
such a big impact, that the only way

Aquaeductus Case Study
To my consideration, I d advice Pamphilius the following. First of all, I d recognize that when
field C was sold to Pamphilius it should have been established what benefits the field had.
However, this data is not given to me.
Servitude is an interest disconnected from the proprietorship of an inferior property, being the
smaller one the servient estate or inferior and the superior one the dominant estate (which would be
field A, the one with the river flow) leaving field C to be the inferior estate in this case. The
dominant estate has the Ius in re which is the right in property in common law. This means that the
estate has either jus in re propria, the right to use the land in any way the owner likes to within
legal parameters; or jus in re aliena which includes security interests for inferior estates. Again, we
lack the information on which type of right Catullus would have in this case.
I do believe that Catullus is right to claim that the servitude had extinguished because at some
point he owned fields A and C. Although he might not have established that he would take away
the water from field C, at that point the field was his, and he could do what he pleased with it and ...

He could get the water back (to the land) if he is successful with this. However it is hard to
achieve a change in an already made contract, especially not knowing if at any point the water
being there or not being there was not discussed. In the case they did, then he surely could get it
because it would make the contract void, as the buyer is getting less for his money, so less value.
In the case that it wasn t discussed or noted at any point in the contract, the chances are very low
for Pamphilius to get the

ER Diagrams and Databases
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, people have been trying to make their life easier
using machines. This has led to huge technological breakthroughs that brought about computers,
cars, airplanes etc. Nowadays computers are widely used to perform various tasks on users behalf.
Another people s passion since ancient times is to store and preserve information for the
generations to come (libraries, archives). During the 1960 s people s desire to store and retrieve
information was combined with the opportunities that computers offered to create the first
computerized database. This turned out to be a milestone in the way people manage information. It
offered many advantages: Data can be organised easy; it takes up very little physical space; users
can search the data for specific information; The Database can be shared between different users; it
can be accessed remotely etc. Due to these advantages, the new modern way of collecting data
gradually replaced paper Databases. It became a much more cost effective way for organisations
and companies to store their data. Currently, computer databases are being used everywhere:
Facebook, online stores such as Amazon and eBay, airports, hospitals, government institutions etc.
Even the libraries that are considered to be old fashioned have stored their information
electronically.
However, databases have to meet some challenges. Nowadays, the purpose of databases is to serve
the demands of large scale companies. These

Cheerleading Argumentative Essay
That is not what cheerleading is, that s just what they have the children do because it requires a
lot of skill to be able to do it. Which is another one of the requirements to be considered a sport,
needing to have a skill. Cheering has many techniques that people need to know when they decide
that they are going to cheer competitively. Skills are something that people have to practice
repeatedly so that nobody gets hurt, or at least in this case that is what the skills would be used for.
Cheerleadingis done within a group of women or men, and it can be done for the audience s
benefit, to root on another sports team, or it could be for a competition. But no matter what way
you look at it cheeringis done for the entertainment of

Dorothy L. Sayers’ Gaudy Night Essay
Dorothy L. Sayers Gaudy Night
When Gayle Wald wrote, Sayers s career writing detective stories effectively ends with Gaudy
Night (108), she did not present a new argument, but continued the tradition that Gaudy Night does
not center on the detective story. Barbara Harrison even labeled Dorothy Sayers s Lord Peter
/Harriet Vane books, Strong Poison, Gaudy Night, and Busman s Honeymoon, as deliriously happy
ending romances (66). The label stretches the definition of a romance, but Gaudy Night indeed has
very little to do with crime. Sayers encrypted the real story within her detective novel. This story
behind the story narrates love and human relationships. In fact, the crimes in Gaudy Night only
supply a convenient way for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We usually think of crypts as graves or coded messages, similar to the letter in Have His
Carcasse. The notion of a crypt, however, contains a deeper psychological meaning. Crypts deal
with the ideas of introjection and incorporation. These concepts identify the alternative ways in
which the psyche handles trauma. When the psyche introjects a trauma, the trauma melds into
the subconscious. If the psyche successfully assimilates the trauma, it unites with the rest of the
psyche, much like a cube of ice (the trauma) melting in a glass of water (the psyche).
Incorporation occurs when trauma embeds itself into the psyche, but remains separate and,
therefore, separable. If we return to the idea of the psyche as a glass of water, incorporation
resembles what happens when a Ping Pong ball (the trauma) drops into a glass of water. The
ball remains a lump in the psyche. Jacques Derrida wrote about the crypt sealing the loss of the
object, but also marking the refusal to mourn . . . I pretend to keep the dead alive, intact, safe
(save) inside me, but it is only to refuse, in a necessarily equivocal way, to love the dead as a
living part of me, dead save in me, through the process of introjection, as happens in so called
normal mourning ( Foreword 17). The tomb stands then as an incorporation of the trauma of death.
We physically mark the place of rest as a mirror of our inability to assimilate that trauma

Reaction Rate Lab
Introduction The reaction rates provide important information concerning the factors that control
the speed of a chemical reaction or the steps that occur in complex mechanisms of a chemical
reaction in a study called chemical kinetics. The most common factors that affect the reaction rate
are concentration, temperature and actions of catalyst. The rate of reaction is ( Rate=k[A]n[B]m)
which is written in rate law expression. Reaction rates may be determined by following the
appearance of disappearance of chemical substance or the change in a characteristic property. In the
experiment hydrogen peroxide will undergo decomposition and the product oxygen gas collected.
Initial rate at which the O2 is produced will be monitored to determine the rate
2H2O22H2O(l)+O2(g). Since the reaction rates depend on reactant concentrations, the rate at which
O2is produced on lt during the initial few minutes of the reaction, the reaction concentrations
should not decrease significantly. This method of investigation is called the initial rate method.

Differentiation in the European Union Integration Process
From time to time it is worth reminding ourselves why twenty seven European nation states have
come together voluntarily to form the partnership that is the European Union. 1 Europe has a
history of war and conflict that predates living memory and the idea of a united Europe is
something that appears repeatedly in that history. Hitler, Napoleon, and the many Roman Emperors
all sought a united Europe. Their quests although in many ways motivated by a horrifying desire
for power sparked the minds of philosophers and other political thinkers to imagine Europe united
in harmony and peace despite national differences. Today we have the European Unionwhich is
quite unique. After the horrors, bloodshed, and economic disaster of the... Show more content on

Therefore, member states are making a great effort to be a part of this group so that they to will
continue to move forward and not be left behind. In such cases differentiation allows for more
efficient integration and acts as a motivation for further integration.5 This is also seen in
enhanced cooperation. Enhanced cooperation makes it possible for a group of at least eight
member states to integrate further than the treaties require of them so long as it remains open to
the other member states, and aims to further the objectives of the Union. The group can use the
Union s institutions and mechanisms in order to do this. Recently, ten countries were attempting
to develop a harmonized divorce law because the Union has been unable to agree on one. The
problem with the divorce laws is in the case of couples who were born in different countries and
can shop around for the best place for them to divorce. The European Union has been attempting to
achieve a harmonized divorce law but Sweden has blocked it because it has very liberal divorce
laws and fears unequal treatment based on gender.6 Austria, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary,
Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia and Spain have decided to formally request the European
Commission to launch the enhanced cooperation mechanism. This has allowed these countries to
move past Sweden s block of

The American Imperialism Essay
After the civil war, United States took a turn that led them to solidify as the world power. From the
late 1800s, as the US began to collect power through Cuba, Hawaii, and the Philippines, debate
arose among historians about American imperialism and its behavior. Historians such as William A.
Williams, Arthur Schlesinger, and Stephen Kinzer provides their own vision and how America
ought to be through ideas centered around economics, power, and racial superiority.
Economics becomes a large factor in the American imperialism; but more specifically that
expansion in foreign markets is a vital part in the growth of America. As historian Charles Beard
puts it, [it] is indispensable to the prosperity of American business. Modern diplomacy is ... Show

Essay about Reframing

CHAPTER 20. BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER: CHANGE AND LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
CHAPTER 20 OVERVIEW
Chapter 20 Summary ___________________________________________________
The chapter opens with a case Robert F. Kennedy High School depicting the many problems facing
David King, the new principal of a deeply troubled urban high school. A school that opened with
high hopes only a few years ago now finds itself mired in conflict and dissatisfaction. King s first
meeting with his new administrative staff produces a blow up in which a male housemaster
physically threatens the chair of the English department. By the end of the case, the situation feels
overwhelming. Is there hope? The authors follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter 20: Replay and Critique of David King s Reframing _______________
There is value in having students compare their own thinking about the RFK High case with the
reframing process depicted for David King in the chapter. One way to do this is to ask students to
read the case, stop there, and engage in their own effort to reframe using the same questions David
King used. (This can be done either individually or in groups.) Once students have developed their
own diagnoses, they can read the remainder of the chapter and compare their thinking with David
King s. Another option appears in Exercise 20.1.
Chapter 20: Applying Reframing to Cases or Personal Experience_________
The chapter focuses on putting it all together: integrating everything learned about organizations
and leadership into more comprehensive and powerful understanding and action. The reframing
process illustrated in the chapter can be applied to almost any case or experience: students
personal cases, published cases, films or fiction, or class experiences (role plays, experiential
activities, team experiences, the course). Instructors can, for example, have students study a
challenging case (multiple suggestions are offered elsewhere in this instructor s guide) and then,
either individually or in teams, reframe to develop both diagnoses and solutions. Individuals or
groups will differ in what they see and what

Pros And Cons Of Re Enlisting
I m cold, I can t breath through the thick smoke, and a quarter of the men I went to war with are
dead. At Valley Forge we have extremely poor living conditions. 3,989 out of 8,000 soldiers are ill.
I decided to re enlist for three reasons which are honoring my country, helping the unfortunate
soldiers, and destroying Great Britain s tyranny.
February 1st, 1778, we are quartered at Valley forgelocated 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Just a year ago we declared independence from Britain, our first true act of rebellion. Other men
have decided to desert or leave us, therefore we don t have as many people to help us through the
war. I made the decision to stay and fight with the Continental Army, we ve been through too much

From December June 1,800 to 2,500 soldiers died from illness (Busch 147). I saw a chart in the
main quarters of death due to illness, correspondingly this really made me realize how lucky I
am to be alive. The army which has been surprisingly healthy hitherto now begins to grow sickly
(Waldo 151). Even though about a quarter of our men are dead, some soldiers have beat the
sickness (Busch 147). I believe if I got this far I am meant to stay. The thought of going back
home and seeing my family makes the idea of quitting alluring, but I believe that god put me
here for a reason and wants me to stay and help the fallen soldiers. I wish myself at home and I m
starving (Waldo 151). Dr. Waldo is always complaining about his living conditions, how torn his
clothes are, and how hungry he is. Soldiers have to live through all of those conditions all of the
time of top of being weak and sick, therefore they have it worse than me. This reason is causing
me to re enlist because I am healthy enough to help them recover and it would be immensely
selfish to leave them behind. We need to stay because there are soldiers not as fortunate as us and
they need our help because they are to sick to help

Embryology of anorectal malformations
The hindgut develops into the distal third of the transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon,
rectum, and the upper part of the anal canal. The endoderm of the hindgut also forms the lining of
the bladder and urethra . The terminal part of the hindgut contributes to the posterior region of the
cloaca, the primitive anorectal canal; the allantois merges into the anterior portion, the primitive
urogenital sinus Figure 1(Sadler, 2011). The cloaca is a cavity lined by endoderm and ventrally

Why We Should Abortion Be Illegal
Abortion must be illegal in order to save the lives of the unborn. Nobody deserves to be killed by
cause of an unwanted pregnancy. Can you imagine a world without no babies being born? We will
have nobody to love us unconditionally . The process of an abortion leaves the woman with the
feeling of neglect and regret. Nobody should let a baby die, that s why they could give them up for
adoption. Abortionis the definition of murdering, there s many solutions and other ways out that
could help you eliminate abortion. Even though abortion is ending with innocent children s lives,
nobody actually cares how this situation is developing. A large number of countries ban abortion

While invested in the market I designed and built residential homes for myself, which I sold and

selling it in 1996.
In 2000, without conscious awareness I made mistake number one. I built a dream home, an
Italian farm house villa, which I designed for $1,500,000 with an $800,000 mortgage and sold it
for $3,250,000. The reason for the large mortgage was to leverage my positions in the stock market,
which many others were trending to at that time.
The decision to build again was based on my success in making money in the stock market and a
distorted and unrealistic perspective, without conscious awareness, that I would continue making
money without my close advisors to say, not a good decisions.
Part of this mistake was driving up debt, which I never had by borrowing against stocks and later
would contribute to financial loss.

The Fold House is a converted Victorian Terraced home, surrounded by magnificent mature gardens.
It is located in the historic and beautiful conservation area of Wandsworth Common in South
London. The conversion consists of a 90ft pavilion extension that is enclosed in a thin sheet of
brass, which conveys an air of weightlessness juxtaposed with the existing Victorian structure. The
sheet of brass is folded to form elements of classic architecture, such as the columns and porticos.
However, the extension has a contemporary feel due to the lightness of the brass, combined with the

The Provence up cycled chair, Skeletal Wall clock and Persian rug are a wonderful step back
into the Victorian era, making a vital connection to the original house. The curves of these items
plus the Victorian techniques of bending wood with the use of steam were an inspiration for the
contemporary furniture and lighting. These items include the Cork side tables, X coffee table,

helping the eclectic space to gel by finding common ground within the shapes. The space draws
energy from the contrasting textures of the re cycled plastic bottle Nova ceiling light, textile

The Montgomery Bus Boycott Case Study
The problem with discrimination with transportation is that coloured people, specifically African
Americans, were not allowed to sit at the front of the bus and a lot of the time they had to give
their seat up to white person when travelling by air. The major issue in the 1950 s was the busses.
Much like the bathrooms and waiting areas African Americanpeople had a segregated section for
them at the back of the bus, or a separate, poor quality bathroom. From this coloured people felt
even more excluded as they already had specific bathrooms, waiting areas and even drinking
fountains. They felt like they couldn t even travel safely and most of the time they didn t travel
safely without slurs being thrown at them. A major incident was Rosa Parksrefusing to move from
her seat for a white man. Rosa Parks got on the bus whilst no one was on there, she thought it
would be safe for her to sit at the front of the bus. A white male arrived on the bus and told Parks
to move, she refused to move for the man. This incident got Rosa Parks thrown off the bus,
arrested and fined $10 plus $4 from the court. This was a lot of money back in the 50 s.
Protest
Because of Rosa Parks not giving up her seat on the bus this started a peaceful protest. This is how
the Montgomery bus boycott started. The Montgomery Bus Boycott is where African Americans
refused to rise the city buses in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest segregated seating in buses. It
took place from December 5th, 1955, to December

The Philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche Essay
Philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche Friedrich Nietzsche was a 19th century German philosopher
and held in regard amongst the greatest philosophers of the early part century. He sharpened his
philosophical skills through reading the works of the earlier philosophers of the 18th century such
as Immanuel Kant, John Stuart Mill, Arthur Schopenhauer and African Spir; however, their works
and beliefs were opposite to his own. His primary mentor was Author Schopenhauer, whose belief
was that reality was built on the foundation of experience. Such as it is, one of his essays,
Schopenhauer als Erzieher, published in 1874, was dedicated to Schopenhauer (Mencken, 2008). In

The fact that he gave up and refused to fight back gives room for more findings. He disagrees
with the Christian community for making Jesus a martyr and sees that in so doing, they had made
the Christ teachings vague. Nietzsche wrote his works in the process of rebuilding the damage
caused by Christians during the ancient days. His inclination was to show the true way in which
God wanted human beings to live as opposed to what Christians were doing. Another philosophy of
Nietzsche was related to the notion of ressentiment. Defined, ressentiment is any cautious, defeatist,
or cynical attitude based on the belief that the individual and human institutions exist in a hostile
or indifferent universe or society and an oppressive awareness of the futility of trying to improve
one s status in life or in society (dictionary.com). In the work, On the Genealogy of Morals,
ressentiment is illustrated in the way the Jewish clerics act in response to the authority of the
Romans. Nietzsche states, the Jews, that priestly people, who in opposing their enemies and

Wolves In Little Red Riding Hood
In both stories wolves are portrayed as dangerous creatures. Throughout the story of On the
Mountain Trail the wolves are chasing after what they think is prey. Then in Law of Life at the
end of the story (paragraph 22) the wolves attack him and kill him. The wolves in both stories
are portrayed as fierce ferocious animals; they are creatures of the wilderness, hunting prey
whenever possible. They are not the sociable animals such as dogs that we are so custom to they
are deadly animals in some cases. For example: In the mountain trail once the characters started to
shoot at them the wolves immediately thought of them as a threat, or when you are lying there

In the fairy tales Little Red Riding Hood the wolf was a trick so he could eat her and as a result she
ran away. In The Boy Who Cried Wolf, he was lier and eventually died. They were supposed to
scare us so as we got older we never saw a wolf and if we did it was a symbol of fear to us. But
because we have never seen them in person when we do we think of a way to either kill them or
get them away so that they cannot harm us or them, the main characters (On the Mountain Trail
paragraph 9 10 and Law of life paragraph 22). But sometimes we don t understand wolves they can
represent fear as the lone wolf represents when it s hunting alone without his pack and howls its a

religions that you are strong and brave, or in the Japanese they worshiped them. But in most
religions they are terrified of them they have people protecting lambs from their vicious fangs. Or
werewolves when they turn into wolves they can t control themselves and everyone has to run and

people thought you were a werewolf they would kill you, because they thought you were

Urbanization Of China s Urbanization
Urbanization in China
Urbanization is all around us. Every day somewhere along a route that someone takes to school or
work, they will likely pass a construction site constructing a new apartment complex or housing
community or even the building of a new shopping centre. All of these are ways urbanization creeps
in on our daily lives. We may think of urbanization as something that benefits our world but it can
also have many negative consequences such as traffic congestion which is the number one factor of
air pollution. China is known as a very highly developed country with over 1 billion people.
Urbanization has greatly impacted China in many ways. There is a huge demanding population for
communities in these largely populated cities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These cities are often called megacities because they have a high density of population. Between
the 1950 s to the 1960 s China s government had implemented the Five Year plan, this plan was
the government s way of initiating population growth, which resulted in high rates of urban in
migration (Shin, 2015, pg.3). This was the spark of urbanization in the megacities. A few decades
later the urbanization population ratio has skyrocketed in the past two decades from 26% in 1990
to 50% in 2010... with more than one billion people (Song, Chen, 2014, pg.485). In this instance,
China s population has rapidly grown in a short amount of time creating many megacities within
their country, after the first spark called the Five Year plan between the 50 s and 60 s. With the
creation of these megacities comes the factor of urbanization. Many of these cities will be flooded
with large amounts of people that need the basic necessaries of life and therefore these megacities
will become urbanized. Urbanization of these cities means the building of many resources such as
housing, transportation routes, health services and shopping centres. With the becoming of
urbanization this also comes with many other factors that can be both positive and negative.
Many factors of urbanization can cause environmental impacts. One of the factors being motor
vehicle traffic which is a major source of air pollution in the megacities (Mage,

Killer Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor Essay
1 Introduction The target of this research is to look at the frequency of a receptor a killer
immunoglobulin like receptor (KIR) present on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells a key
component of the innate immune system. This will begin by briefly discussing the innate
immunity, NK cells, KIRs and their implications.
1.1 Innate Immunity The human immune system can be divided into two categories the adaptive
immune system and innate immune system, however these two systems work in conjunction to
form the immune response. The innate immune system also can be referred to as the non specific
immune system and the first line of defence. As the name suggests the innate immune system is
non specific and recognition and response to pathogens are generic. This system does not confer
memory or long lasting protection from pathogens. The task of this system is to provide instant
defence against pathogens which are present throughout individual s life s and can be found across
other animals and plants. The defence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
while the second line of defences or secondary defences as they are known, consists of cellular
and soluble factors to stop pathogens causing infections. The secondary defences can be divided
up further into cellular factors consisting of macrophages and neutrophils which are phagocytic
by nature (Galli, Borregaard, Wynn, 2011). The final cellular component are cytotoxic cells, NK
cells and will be the focus of this research and discussed in greater detail in section 1.2.0. NK cells
are a class of cytotoxic lymphocyte which protects the body from virally infected and cancerous
cells. These cells can induce cell death by delivering cytotoxic granules and receptor mediated
mechanisms, while also producing cytokines that aid in stimulating the immune cell functions seen
in the soluble factors of the secondary defences (Caligiuri,

Case Study Of Ivanoskaya Manufacture
Ivanoskaya Manufacture is a giant wool processing plant based in Russia. Counting 3300
employees it is one of the only wool processing plants in the country. The company is specialized

every one with its own hierarchyand a strong up to down administration, with well defined rules and

The James Valcq s Musical Adaptation Of The Spitfire Grill
Something Was Cooking at the Spitfire Grill
Southern Utah University performed James Valcq s musical adaptation of The Spitfire Grill
(Valcq, 2016). The production overall was slightly above average. There were aspects of the
musical that worked perfectly to go along with the main seed of redemption. Ideas and concepts of
relationships, redemption, and continuity were successfully and less than successfully shared
through this play. I will be going over how I believe The Spitfire Grillconnected itself to the seed of
redemption through what I saw and felt throughout the show.
Waiting for the show to start was actually when the production started. While I sat in the house for
the show to start, the smell of someone s coffee filled the room. I was momentarily distracted by
trying to figure out who was the coffee culprit and how their cup of coffee could be so potent that
I could still smell it with only five minutes until show time. As I gave up that hunt, I read the plays
brochure and brought up a summary of the play on my phone. I quickly put two and two together:
1) The Spitfire Grill is a breakfast hub and 2) coffee is a breakfast staple. The house having an
aroma of freshly brewed coffee was completely intentional and lasted all throughout the first act. I
really enjoyed the sense of smell being involved with the audience because it made me feel as if I
was waiting for my order to arrive. The smell of coffee is also a comfort smell to me and only

The Role Of The United Nations Security Council
The United States is one of only five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council
(UNSC). In the United States, we have suffered from many terrorist attacks of our own, including
but not limited to: the LaGuardia Airport Bombing in 1975, the 1995 Oklahoma truck bombing, the
attacks of the Twin Towers on 9/11, the Beltway sniper attacks, the San Bernardino attack, the
Orlando nightclub shooting in 2016, and the recent Las Vegas shooting on October 1st. It can be
argued that these terrible attacks have brought us closer together as a nation. Certainly, the

The UNSC has a responsibility of keeping peace between nations, and terrorist attacks prevent
global peace from being achieved. If terrorists realize that the world stands together against
terrorism and their country is protecting by the UNSC, they will think twice about attacking. A
nation supported by a large organization like the UNSC intimidates terrorists and has a greater
chance of prosperity.
Global peace can be achieved while the threat of terrorism is still active. Terrorism is a universal
concept, and no policy, security regulation, or procedure can ever change that. However, if the
world s nations stand together against terrorism, than we can respond to terrorist attacks and
recover from them quicker. The world (excluding Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Nigeria)
has seen the amount of terrorist incidents increase by 54% in 2013. However, our world has
become more peaceful, as the amount of deaths from battle per 100,000 people dropped from 21.8
in 1950 to less than 1 in 2013. Therefore, terrorism can still remain in a peaceful world but must be
contained.

Negative Impact On Communication
In my life so far, the top three most influential technologies for communication have been e mail,
texting (including group texting), and social media (primarily Facebook). E mail has shaped
my life positively by being able to communicate professionally. Whether I need to communicate
via e mail with bosses, colleagues, or coworkers; e mail has been an essential tool to be able to do
so professionally, especially when face to face is not an option. A way that e mail has had a
negative impact on my life is if I neglect it. Even when you are on vacation, out with family, or sick
in bed; the e mails keep coming and the pile up can be overwhelming to get through. This is
especially true when you are managing multiple e mail accounts. Another negative impact is when e
mail is the only type of communicationwith someone. Through my experience, I have found that
you can only say so much through written words, especially through email. The best
communication with people goes through multiple mediums, of talking in person (or on the phone)
as well as through e mail.
Texting has had a big impact on my life. I grew up without a phone, however, in my last years of
high school my parents bought me one. Since then, texting has been a crucial way of
communicating with my friends, family, and peers. Texting, first of all is very convenient. Most
people text back within a couple hours and it allows for informal conversation. Group texting has

Design and Culture Abstract: Uses Design in a different way; but one must add that a universal
language is being constructed daily. design is understood here as a phenomenon which affects
everybody. design is characterized by a dual alliance with both mass production and mass
consumption and that these two phenomena have determined nearly all its manifestations .Industry
unconsciously evolved its own aesthetic, and this aesthetic was from the beginning one which
intelligent designers, whatever their background, tried to obey .

Like Janus, design looks in tow directions at the same time: as a silent quality of all mass
produced goods it plays a generally unacknowledged but vital role in all our lives; as a named
concept within the mass media, it is, however, much more visible and generally recognized. In this
latter guise design becomes an extension of marketing and advertising. The designer jeans
phenomenon, which persuades us to buy a product because it has been designed, is, culturally
speaking, totally distinct from the activity of the anonymous designers within industry who
resolve the problems of cost, appearance and use in consumer products. The way in which design
as an adjunct of marketing has grown out of design as an aspect of mass production is a major
theme within the story of modem design and the focus of this book. It is a change which directly
mirrors the way in which the model of mass production industry, as presented by Henry Ford, which
dominated American ideas about industrial organization in the early twentieth century, has been
challenged by an alternative model which stresses batch production, a smaller scale of operations
(or set of operations), and, at times, a fair amount of

These people believed that coca was a grand gift from the gods. The coca leaf is just as bad as

Rhetorical Analysis Of Red Rock Canyon
In the city of Las Vegas, people go through the daily trails and tribulations that the city has to
offer. People constantly on the go, worried about the collection of money, pollution filling our
lungs and tackled with the constant worries of reality. Being in the city, it seems as there is no
escape from the madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and
artificial light that illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers
freedom about fifteen minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a
place where gargantuan rocks act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source
of light and a place that provides freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature
providing freedom from the busy city life is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a
rhetorical significance as a location of freedom from city life with the multitude of space it
provides. Red Rock Canyon serves as an example of space and place in rhetoricand also creates ties
to visual rhetoric with the unique scenery and imagery being offered. In addition aspects of
memory such as cultural memory and public memory can be connected to Red Rock. To begin
this analysis of Red Rock Canyon, is the notion of Red Rock Canyon being a place defined by
its theory of rhetoric. According to Danielle Enders and Samantha Senda Cook in their article
Rhetoric Matters: The Rhetoric of Place in Protest , Place refers to particular locations (e.g., a
city, a particular shopping mall, or a park) that are semi bounded, a combination of material and
symbolic qualities, and embodied. For example a city is semi bounded by city limits (semi
bounded because these limits can be a matter of debate, change over time, or be re drawn within
a single year), includes material structures like buildings and roads, has symbolic meanings such
as being perceived as a college town or an urban metropolis, and is experienced on a daily basis by
the people who live, work, or visit it ( Enders, Cook Pg.259, 2011). Red Rock Canyon itself is a
particular location that is semi bounded by rules and regulation that are set within

Iqbal Masih As A Hero In Francesco DAdamos
Iqbal Masih, the hero that heroes look up to. Heroes are not people that have adequate, if not

up to as role models or inspire people to do good things. They are admired for their strength, not
just physically, but also mentally. In Francesco D Adamos, Iqbal, Iqbal Masih is the protagonist
of the novel and he is shown as the redeemer of child labor. He is truly a heroas he possesses all the
skills that any hero needs. He has shown his great potential in many cases where he is able to
free innocent and vulnerable children from child labor. He was certainly able to send Pakistan s

The Advantages of an Automated System
The likely main advantage of such an automated system is the fact that it is a much faster system
than the general approach to recruitment and selection. The fact that the system is automated
would mean that the entire process is less complicated and time is saved. The business benefits
from the fact that the people who are hired can immediately start work and be included in the
business process. Another great advantage is the cost advantage. The fact that this system is
automated likely means a one time payment to the company or software producer who has created
the system in the first place, plus potential additional periodical costs related to the system s
maintenance. However, for automated system, it is likely that the human resource and personnel
costs will significantly decrease. The automated system requires fewer people to work it,
potentially only one or two. The non automated system involves individuals at every stage of the
process, including the recruitment and selection phases. The cost advantage is also complemented
by the fact that the automated system would be implemented for individuals that are hired in
auxiliary positions, such as at the cafeteria, rather than in those related with the core activities of
the company. This would tend to show that the cost reduction process would be applied selectively
to a particular category of employees that generate a lower level of revenues for the organization.
However, there are also important disadvantages to

Evaluate My Reading Process
It never occurred to me before to take some time and evaluate my reading process and my reading
habits. I ve done tons of readings throughout my whole life, including articles and abstracts for
school and just some novels and fiction books for entertainment. However, I barely paid attention at
any of my readingroutine. All I was concentrated on were either getting the information I need
from the text or, in case of a novel, enjoying the plot. Up until recently I had no idea if the way I
was readingis productive or not, but after accomplishing my assignment for English class to read
the texts from On Creative Reading , I tried to look at my reading process from a different angle.
I noticed that some writing styles make it harder for me to read, concentrate and follow the idea
of the text, if the writing consists of very long phrases and is overloaded with some difficult
expressions and lots of unknown terms. On the other hand, if the author tries to keep the
phrases more or less simple and clear, tries to hold my interests and makes the whole thing easy
to follow, all those things make my reading process more pleasurable. Surely, the topic I m
researching plays a prominent role in the level of pleasure I m receiving during the reading. I m
more interested in reading some articles on photography or psychology rather than finance or
physics. I would enjoy more reading some fiction than some assignments for school. Richard E.
Miller and Ann Jurecic, the authors of Habits of the Creative Mind, point out that reading
process is not the same for everyone. They ask questions like Once the process of reading has
been routinized and internalized, why is that different people reading different material reach
different conclusions? Or to put this another way, why is there ambiguity? (Miller and Jurecic
80). Indeed, after reading the same text, each of us will make different conclusions and have
different feelings about what we ve read. A lot depends on our previous knowledge and beliefs,
ability to analyze information and many other factors. I often catch myself reading about online TV
shows if they have really interesting theories and plot lines that derive from myths or other similar
sources. On

Personal Strategic Plan For A Business Organization
The purpose of this paper would be a personal strategic plan for myself in which visualizes me as a
business organization, or as You, Inc. Therefore, to create a personal strategy one must examine a
mission statement, vision statement, and understand the environmental scan to identify external
opportunities and threats; in which, an individual or organization gathers information about the
market, society, its competitors, and oneself. A mission statementdefines an individual purpose for
achieving certain goals. An individual mission statement should define their primary attributes to
employers, employees, or clients to identify the products and services they have to offer in a
particular field. A vision statement is long term goals that give an individual the formation that
allows them a competitive advantage in an organization or particular market. My personal vision
statement is to seek employment in the manufacturing sector as operations manager in logistics.
Once this information is achieved the individual or business can take the necessary steps to identify
signs (Business Dictionary, 2015) of pressure and prospects that may influence their current and
future course of action through tools such as P.E.S.T (Political, Economic, Social and
Technological) and through S.W.O.T. (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) analysis
(QuickMBA, 2010).

The Garden Of Forking Paths Theme
The infinite is a concept that is difficult for man to comprehend, yet in Jorge Luis Borges short
story The Garden of Forking Paths he does such a fantastic job of describing this idea of infinity
and its effect on mankind through his explanation of a labyrinth. This short story also can be used
as somewhat of a lens while reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Borges story begins with frame
narrativebut both stories are, for the most part, told from a first person point of view. This aspect
of point of view is very helpful in supporting the idea of infinite possibilities and infinite
universes. By writing their stories from a first person point of view Bechdel and Borges give their
readers a glimpse into the idea that each action, however little that action or decision may be,
always has a reaction that can alter the outcome of a persons life drastically. Each action, can have
different outcomes that essentially leads to infinite outcomes in other universes. A majority of

In Borges The Garden of Forking Paths he shows that perhaps there are many sides to a story
and a person should not just choose one and trust it entirely. Alison Bechdel promotes a similar
idea in Fun Home, and shows that each action, no matter how small, can have a large effect on a
person s life. It is impossible to explain an exact outcome because there are numerous reasons why
a certain result occurred. While both of these stories explore completely different topics, they
relate to each other in underlying theme. Writing these two pieces in a first person point of view
makes each character seem somewhat untrustworthy, and this is why the idea of infinite
possibilities is so relevant. It is such a difficult concept to grasp and completely understand,
however the infinite plays a much bigger role in a person s life than they can even

Many people are fascinated by these whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as

that life in captivity is no match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors and

The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life
expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961
are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca
whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding
program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be
alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered
captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most
parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by
Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are
inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are Orcas far too intelligent to be held
captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social needs. In the wild, Orcas have
complex familial and social relationships with those in their pods that they are not able to sustain
in captivity due to being placed in a pool with and artificial family. Orcas typically spend their
entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2). In captivity, the young are separated
from their mothers. At SeaWorld, after a four and a half year old Orca was taken away from

Historically, there have been many surgical techniques to repair anorectal malformations. These
include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of
anoplasties However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair
these malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006).
Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014):
A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The
incision is a posterior sagittal one, in between both buttocks, running from the middle portion of the
sacrum down to the anal dimple, which is electrically determined. The incision goes through skin,
subcutaneous tissue, parasagittal fibres, muscle complex and levator muscle. When the surgeon is
dealing with a rectourethral bulbar fistula, he expects to see a bulging rectum ... Show more content

These multiple sutures serve the purpose of exerting uniform traction on the rectal mucosa to
facilitate the separation of the rectum from the urinary tract. The fascia that covers the rectum is
removed, creating the lateral planes of the rectum. The mucosa of the anterior rectal wall distal to
the multiple 6/0 silk sutures is divided about 1 mm deep. The dissection continues between the
rectum and urinary tract in a submucosal plane for approximately 5 10 mm and then gradually
becomes a full thickness dissection, looking at the lateral planes until the rectum is completely
separated from the urinary tract. The separation of the urethra from the rectum is the most delicate
part of the operation. Most of the serious complications occur during this part of the procedure.
The fistula site is closed with three or four 6/0 long term absorbable

It s Time To Get A Grade In High School
I would like to start out with a little Bible verse from Proverbs 20:15, it goes like this There is
gold and abundance of costly stones, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. This verse
is saying that people are surrounded daily by tons of things that we believe are precious and
costly. Yet the people with real understanding, knowledge, of value are the most precious and
rare of all. But what is real understanding of value? In today s society people are taught to believe
that knowledge is getting a diploma and going to a four year university. To get your diploma you
must make good grades in school. For college, high test scores and good high schoolgrades are the
things that dictate what college you can get into. But why? Why should a grade in subjects most
students don t even really care about determine whether they are smart. Grades should be abolished

I m sure you have heard this as well in your time in school. I bet you guys have all heard of Adele.
She is a very popular musician that was made famous by her gorgeous, crisp sounding voice. But
no college education. How about Mark Zuckerberg? Billionaire co founder of Facebook. But no
college education. The list keeps on going. Billionaire perfectionist that didn t go to a four year
university. I m saying that they didn t need straight A s to perfect their art. The very founding
document of America was written and signed by rebellious people who didn t abide by the law.
We all have the ability and smartness to be great and grades don t really reflect that skill very
well. The celebrities and millionaire entrepreneurs are the people that we all wish we could be
the most. They are the ones we build ours lives after. The people who perfected their own art. Yet
getting an education is still thought to be going to college and getting a good job instead of

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Essay by...
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Essay Mr. Boone is not completely evil
because he has good intentions behind many of his misdeeds. He only wants what is best for
Christopher. Mr. Boone accepts Christopher s special needs and wants him to succeed in life. He
helps Christopher a lot more than anyone else, even Judy Boone; Christopher s mother doesn t
help Christopher as much. Although Ed Boone s immoral actions were evil, the good intentions,
helpfulness, and patience that he displays toward his son, Christopher proves that Mr. Boone is
the evil figure with an ultimately good heart. Ed shows a lot of helpfulness to everyone and
especially Christopher. This is what lets Ed be so good with Christopher, patience lets Ed be... Show

Ed stood up for Christopher when someone under estimated him and this let Christopher succeed
on to becoming what he wants to be. Ed Boone has good intentions toward Christopher and only
wishes the best for him, even though his actions and decisions are not always the best. He hid the
letters, that Christopher s mother sent Christopher. He also lied to Christopher about his mother,
telling Christopher that she died of a heart attack. Even though the things Ed did look evil and bad
hearted, he did it out of love. Just like he killed Wellington, Mrs. Shears dog, because he loved her
and she rejected him, and Ed got out of control. Ed lied and hid the letters from Christopher
because Christopher, being a person with special needs, did not feel sad and take the divorce and
separation of his parents too deeply and harshly. Ed also did this so Christopher would not leave
him, because Ed loves him a lot. After Ed found out that Christopher read the letters, he apologized
and said, I m sorry, Christopher, I m so, so sorry [Page 114]. Ed even said and told Christopher it
was for his safety and for good, that it was all for a good cause. Ed said,
I did it for your good, Christopher. Honestly I did. I never meant to lie. I just thought... I just
thought it was better if you didn t know... that... that... I didn t mean to... I was going to show them
to you when you were older [Page 114].
Ed was rash and unfair, but with a good heart, which is clearly

Managing Remote Sales Teams Offer Unique Challenges
Awesome sales teams aren t just found in office cubicles.
A sales member might attend a CEO meeting in California, play a round of golf with an important
client in Georgia, or cold call prospective leads from an apartment in Barcelona.
Technology makes remote work more accessible. The office now encompasses different countries
and time zones.
A Stanford University research study found that employees are 13 percent more productive when
working remotely. However, managing a remote salesteam isn t easy.
People work at their own pace, creating disconnection among team members. When problems
occur, it s not as simple as getting up from your desk and walking down the hall to get clarification
face to face.
Managing remote sales teams offer unique challenges, but you can overcome them. Let s explore
four ways to lead your remote team to more closed deals.
1. Set Clear Expectations
When setting expectations, sales employees are encouraged to meet higher performance levels.
A recent Gallup poll of German workers found that when a manager sets clear priorities for their
employees about 38 percent of workers feel engaged and will strive to increase their work
performance.
Establish clear expectations for your team. It provides everyone a set standard to maintain.
The benchmark should include sales objectives, specific online procedures when working on leads,
and tips for managing time more efficiently.
Sales managers must be willing to hop on a Skype call with their team.

Legalization Of Ilicit Drugs
Legalization of Illicit Drugs
The debate of the legalization of illicit drugs has been around for some time. It is a fairly wide
spectrum, with two varying opinions. While one side argues that illicit drugs should be legal, the
other side stick to the more conservative side of the spectrum and argues that illicit drugs should
remain illegal and have no place in our modern society. This paper will attempt to side with the
legalization of illicit drugs for various reasons. It will make the community safer, it will allow for
more advanced and better education on drugs and drug safety, and lastly it will help improve the
economy.
The legalization of illicit drugs will make the community safer. It may seem like a
counterproductive thought, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being incarcerated has a huge effect onan individual sphycological health. A paper by US health
Human Services notedthat some prisoners get so used to being in prisons, they find it hard to
integrate back intosociety due to the trauma and phycological damage they suffered in jail (Haney,
2001).The paper goes on tofurtheroutline some major issues faced by ex inmates such as being
parents, making decisions, andjust proving that ex incarcerated addicts will not go back to their old
habits. It could possibly improve their dependency on it due to the trauma and the hardship of jail,
and it might even cause them to commit serious crimes to feed their addiction.Legalizing drugs can
alsoreduce the number of drug users. In 2001 Portugalintroduced a new legislation which
decriminalized the possessionof illicit drugs, and began treating drug addiction as a mental issue
rather than a criminal punishment. Due to thisthey foundthat drug users, and the amount of deaths
related todrug use has also lowered in numbers(Portugal`s decriminalisation policy, 2014).This
proves that the legalization of drugs may just be the right option to provide our society a sense of
security and safety.
Legalizing drugs can have amajor impact on the education of drugs as well as how it influences the
younger people in our society. It is

The Controversies Of Child Beauty Pageants
Fabulous makeup, glamorous hair, and beautiful outfit, this is what embodies pageantry. Today,
Beauty pageants are not only based on beauty but the contestants aspirations. Modern pageants, are
for the most scholarship pageants in which the winning participant receives money to continue or
pay off their higher education. Child Beauty pageants have become very popular in the
entertainment world with shows being created to display the bizarreness and extremities of pageant
culture. Although many believe child beauty pageants are used to build a child s self confidence,
they have, in fact, been achieving opposite results by focusing their priorities on the appeal of
superficial beauty, implementing young girls into a sexualized culture , and... Show more content on

However, a focus on appearance can result in many young participants in the pageant community
to view their looks as a prime concern. Sadly, these children consider their beauty as their only
opportunity for winning . To win pageants, some parents spend hundreds of dollars on artificial
beauty enhancements such as fake tans, hair, and even teeth for their child contestants. Hoping to
receive titles and prizes, a number of parents can take these beauty improvements to a dangerous
extreme. In 2011, a case was brought up on a pageant mom who would frequently inject botox to
her eight year old daughter before beauty competitions. Unapologetic for her actions, the mother
claimed that her daughter had begged her to perform the cosmetic procedure. Surprisingly, the
mother also declared that other moms, for the sake of beauty, also use botox on their children for
so called wrinkles. Although it is an extreme case, altering any form of a child s undeveloped
appearances can actually result as a disservice for them. Sending terrible messages to little girls to
value their face and appearance by searching for unattainable goals in superficial beauty and to an
extent where innocence converts itself as a thing of the past, this is what pageant children

  • 2. American Attitudes Towards The Poor Essay Today s news is full of speculation and debate about the national debt, taxes and potential cuts to vital programs that serve those in need. However, the conversation often seems overly caught up in the finer points of politics and media coverage rather than the real people that these decisions affect. I think it s fair to say that American attitudes toward the poor are more often than not, disdain and fear. There s a common myth that people are forced into povertybecause they are simply lazy or inferior, the truth is it is harder to feed and clothe your family than ever before. Poverty in this country is not accidental, it is a direct result of funneling wealth upstream; the rich get richer and the poor suffer. The poor you will always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is time to be ashamed (Shipler 300). According to Shipler, many of these people are just a step away from catastrophe. A brief illness, trouble with their car, or disrupted child care can bring about the end of their employment. America s perception of how life should be is affecting the way we see other people in our environment as well as other countries. Many Americans are working at low paying, dead end jobs that will never give them a chance to improve their status in the marketplace, every day necessities eat up the small income these people do get. Poverty is like a bleeding wound. It weakens the defenses. It lowers resistance. It attracts predators (Shipler 18). Look around, in every city neighborhood and small town is a title loan or pay day loan store charging ridiculous interest rates but promising financial freedom to those that just ask. This is just a form legal loan sharking. This is such a lucrative business that native American Indian tribes buy time on television to promote their no collateral loans with interest rates at or above 400 percent and a toll free number to call. We live in a country that was founded on the principle that guarantees all people are created equal and they have the right to pursue their own happiness. Lower paying jobs, fewer benefits and little advancement opportunity make this concept idealistic at best. The American Dream has caused such a big impact, that the only way ... • 3. Case Study On Aquaeductus Antonella Carducci Artenisio Professor Bart Wauters European Legal History October 15th, 2015 Aquaeductus Case Study To my consideration, I d advice Pamphilius the following. First of all, I d recognize that when field C was sold to Pamphilius it should have been established what benefits the field had. However, this data is not given to me. Servitude is an interest disconnected from the proprietorship of an inferior property, being the smaller one the servient estate or inferior and the superior one the dominant estate (which would be field A, the one with the river flow) leaving field C to be the inferior estate in this case. The dominant estate has the Ius in re which is the right in property in common law. This means that the estate has either jus in re propria, the right to use the land in any way the owner likes to within legal parameters; or jus in re aliena which includes security interests for inferior estates. Again, we lack the information on which type of right Catullus would have in this case. I do believe that Catullus is right to claim that the servitude had extinguished because at some point he owned fields A and C. Although he might not have established that he would take away the water from field C, at that point the field was his, and he could do what he pleased with it and ... However it is hard to achieve a change in an already made contract, especially not knowing if at any point the water being there or not being there was not discussed. In the case they did, then he surely could get it because it would make the contract void, as the buyer is getting less for his money, so less value. • 5. ER Diagrams and Databases Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, people have been trying to make their life easier using machines. This has led to huge technological breakthroughs that brought about computers, cars, airplanes etc. Nowadays computers are widely used to perform various tasks on users behalf. Another people s passion since ancient times is to store and preserve information for the generations to come (libraries, archives). During the 1960 s people s desire to store and retrieve information was combined with the opportunities that computers offered to create the first computerized database. This turned out to be a milestone in the way people manage information. It offered many advantages: Data can be organised easy; it takes up very little physical space; users can search the data for specific information; The Database can be shared between different users; it can be accessed remotely etc. Due to these advantages, the new modern way of collecting data gradually replaced paper Databases. It became a much more cost effective way for organisations and companies to store their data. Currently, computer databases are being used everywhere: Facebook, online stores such as Amazon and eBay, airports, hospitals, government institutions etc. Even the libraries that are considered to be old fashioned have stored their information electronically. However, databases have to meet some challenges. Nowadays, the purpose of databases is to serve the demands of large scale companies. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Dorothy L. Sayers’ Gaudy Night Essay Dorothy L. Sayers Gaudy Night When Gayle Wald wrote, Sayers s career writing detective stories effectively ends with Gaudy Night (108), she did not present a new argument, but continued the tradition that Gaudy Night does not center on the detective story. Barbara Harrison even labeled Dorothy Sayers s Lord Peter /Harriet Vane books, Strong Poison, Gaudy Night, and Busman s Honeymoon, as deliriously happy ending romances (66). The label stretches the definition of a romance, but Gaudy Night indeed has very little to do with crime. Sayers encrypted the real story within her detective novel. This story behind the story narrates love and human relationships. In fact, the crimes in Gaudy Night only supply a convenient way for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We usually think of crypts as graves or coded messages, similar to the letter in Have His Carcasse. The notion of a crypt, however, contains a deeper psychological meaning. Crypts deal with the ideas of introjection and incorporation. These concepts identify the alternative ways in which the psyche handles trauma. When the psyche introjects a trauma, the trauma melds into the subconscious. If the psyche successfully assimilates the trauma, it unites with the rest of the psyche, much like a cube of ice (the trauma) melting in a glass of water (the psyche). Incorporation occurs when trauma embeds itself into the psyche, but remains separate and, therefore, separable. If we return to the idea of the psyche as a glass of water, incorporation resembles what happens when a Ping Pong ball (the trauma) drops into a glass of water. The ball remains a lump in the psyche. Jacques Derrida wrote about the crypt sealing the loss of the object, but also marking the refusal to mourn . . . I pretend to keep the dead alive, intact, safe (save) inside me, but it is only to refuse, in a necessarily equivocal way, to love the dead as a living part of me, dead save in me, through the process of introjection, as happens in so called normal mourning ( Foreword 17). The tomb stands then as an incorporation of the trauma of death. We physically mark the place of rest as a mirror of our inability to assimilate that trauma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Reaction Rate Lab Introduction The reaction rates provide important information concerning the factors that control the speed of a chemical reaction or the steps that occur in complex mechanisms of a chemical reaction in a study called chemical kinetics. The most common factors that affect the reaction rate are concentration, temperature and actions of catalyst. The rate of reaction is ( Rate=k[A]n[B]m) which is written in rate law expression. Reaction rates may be determined by following the appearance of disappearance of chemical substance or the change in a characteristic property. In the experiment hydrogen peroxide will undergo decomposition and the product oxygen gas collected. Initial rate at which the O2 is produced will be monitored to determine the rate 2H2O22H2O(l)+O2(g). Since the reaction rates depend on reactant concentrations, the rate at which O2is produced on lt during the initial few minutes of the reaction, the reaction concentrations should not decrease significantly. This method of investigation is called the initial rate method. Experimental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Differentiation in the European Union Integration Process From time to time it is worth reminding ourselves why twenty seven European nation states have come together voluntarily to form the partnership that is the European Union. 1 Europe has a history of war and conflict that predates living memory and the idea of a united Europe is something that appears repeatedly in that history. Hitler, Napoleon, and the many Roman Emperors all sought a united Europe. Their quests although in many ways motivated by a horrifying desire for power sparked the minds of philosophers and other political thinkers to imagine Europe united in harmony and peace despite national differences. Therefore, member states are making a great effort to be a part of this group so that they to will continue to move forward and not be left behind. In such cases differentiation allows for more efficient integration and acts as a motivation for further integration.5 This is also seen in enhanced cooperation. Enhanced cooperation makes it possible for a group of at least eight member states to integrate further than the treaties require of them so long as it remains open to the other member states, and aims to further the objectives of the Union. The group can use the Union s institutions and mechanisms in order to do this. Recently, ten countries were attempting to develop a harmonized divorce law because the Union has been unable to agree on one. The problem with the divorce laws is in the case of couples who were born in different countries and can shop around for the best place for them to divorce. The European Union has been attempting to achieve a harmonized divorce law but Sweden has blocked it because it has very liberal divorce laws and fears unequal treatment based on gender.6 Austria, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia and Spain have decided to formally request the European Commission to launch the enhanced cooperation mechanism. From the late 1800s, as the US began to collect power through Cuba, Hawaii, and the Philippines, debate arose among historians about American imperialism and its behavior. Historians such as William A. Chapter 20: Replay and Critique of David King s Reframing _______________ There is value in having students compare their own thinking about the RFK High case with the reframing process depicted for David King in the chapter. One way to do this is to ask students to read the case, stop there, and engage in their own effort to reframe using the same questions David King used. (This can be done either individually or in groups.) Once students have developed their own diagnoses, they can read the remainder of the chapter and compare their thinking with David King s. Another option appears in Exercise 20.1. Chapter 20: Applying Reframing to Cases or Personal Experience_________ The chapter focuses on putting it all together: integrating everything learned about organizations and leadership into more comprehensive and powerful understanding and action. The reframing process illustrated in the chapter can be applied to almost any case or experience: students personal cases, published cases, films or fiction, or class experiences (role plays, experiential activities, team experiences, the course). The army which has been surprisingly healthy hitherto now begins to grow sickly (Waldo 151). Even though about a quarter of our men are dead, some soldiers have beat the sickness (Busch 147). I believe if I got this far I am meant to stay. The thought of going back home and seeing my family makes the idea of quitting alluring, but I believe that god put me here for a reason and wants me to stay and help the fallen soldiers. I wish myself at home and I m starving (Waldo 151). Dr. Waldo is always complaining about his living conditions, how torn his clothes are, and how hungry he is. Soldiers have to live through all of those conditions all of the time of top of being weak and sick, therefore they have it worse than me. • 21. The Montgomery Bus Boycott Case Study The problem with discrimination with transportation is that coloured people, specifically African Americans, were not allowed to sit at the front of the bus and a lot of the time they had to give their seat up to white person when travelling by air. The major issue in the 1950 s was the busses. Much like the bathrooms and waiting areas African Americanpeople had a segregated section for them at the back of the bus, or a separate, poor quality bathroom. From this coloured people felt even more excluded as they already had specific bathrooms, waiting areas and even drinking fountains. They felt like they couldn t even travel safely and most of the time they didn t travel safely without slurs being thrown at them. A major incident was Rosa Parksrefusing to move from her seat for a white man. Rosa Parks got on the bus whilst no one was on there, she thought it would be safe for her to sit at the front of the bus. • 22. The Philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche Essay Philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche Friedrich Nietzsche was a 19th century German philosopher and held in regard amongst the greatest philosophers of the early part century. He sharpened his philosophical skills through reading the works of the earlier philosophers of the 18th century such as Immanuel Kant, John Stuart Mill, Arthur Schopenhauer and African Spir; however, their works and beliefs were opposite to his own. His primary mentor was Author Schopenhauer, whose belief was that reality was built on the foundation of experience. Such as it is, one of his essays, Schopenhauer als Erzieher, published in 1874, was dedicated to Schopenhauer (Mencken, 2008). The fact that he gave up and refused to fight back gives room for more findings. He disagrees with the Christian community for making Jesus a martyr and sees that in so doing, they had made the Christ teachings vague. Nietzsche wrote his works in the process of rebuilding the damage caused by Christians during the ancient days. His inclination was to show the true way in which God wanted human beings to live as opposed to what Christians were doing. Another philosophy of Nietzsche was related to the notion of ressentiment. Defined, ressentiment is any cautious, defeatist, or cynical attitude based on the belief that the individual and human institutions exist in a hostile or indifferent universe or society and an oppressive awareness of the futility of trying to improve one s status in life or in society (dictionary.com). In the work, On the Genealogy of Morals, ressentiment is illustrated in the way the Jewish clerics act in response to the authority of the Romans. Nietzsche states, the Jews, that priestly people, who in opposing their enemies and conquerors were ultimately satisfied with nothing less than a radical revaluation of their enemies values, that is to say, an act of the most spiritual revenge. For this alone was appropriate to a priestly people, the people embodying the most deeply repressed priestly vengefulness. Every day somewhere along a route that someone takes to school or work, they will likely pass a construction site constructing a new apartment complex or housing community or even the building of a new shopping centre. All of these are ways urbanization creeps in on our daily lives. We may think of urbanization as something that benefits our world but it can also have many negative consequences such as traffic congestion which is the number one factor of air pollution. This will begin by briefly discussing the innate immunity, NK cells, KIRs and their implications. 1.1 Innate Immunity The human immune system can be divided into two categories the adaptive immune system and innate immune system, however these two systems work in conjunction to form the immune response. The innate immune system also can be referred to as the non specific immune system and the first line of defence. As the name suggests the innate immune system is non specific and recognition and response to pathogens are generic. This system does not confer memory or long lasting protection from pathogens. Waiting for the show to start was actually when the production started. While I sat in the house for the show to start, the smell of someone s coffee filled the room. I was momentarily distracted by trying to figure out who was the coffee culprit and how their cup of coffee could be so potent that I could still smell it with only five minutes until show time. As I gave up that hunt, I read the plays brochure and brought up a summary of the play on my phone. People constantly on the go, worried about the collection of money, pollution filling our lungs and tackled with the constant worries of reality. Being in the city, it seems as there is no escape from the madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and artificial light that illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers freedom about fifteen minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a place where gargantuan rocks act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source of light and a place that provides freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature providing freedom from the busy city life is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a rhetorical significance as a location of freedom from city life with the multitude of space it provides. Red Rock Canyon serves as an example of space and place in rhetoricand also creates ties to visual rhetoric with the unique scenery and imagery being offered. In addition aspects of memory such as cultural memory and public memory can be connected to Red Rock. To begin this analysis of Red Rock Canyon, is the notion of Red Rock Canyon being a place defined by its theory of rhetoric. The fact that the system is automated would mean that the entire process is less complicated and time is saved. The business benefits from the fact that the people who are hired can immediately start work and be included in the business process. Another great advantage is the cost advantage. The fact that this system is automated likely means a one time payment to the company or software producer who has created the system in the first place, plus potential additional periodical costs related to the system s maintenance. However, for automated system, it is likely that the human resource and personnel costs will significantly decrease. The automated system requires fewer people to work it, potentially only one or two. The non automated system involves individuals at every stage of the process, including the recruitment and selection phases. The cost advantage is also complemented by the fact that the automated system would be implemented for individuals that are hired in auxiliary positions, such as at the cafeteria, rather than in those related with the core activities of the company. This would tend to show that the cost reduction process would be applied selectively to a particular category of employees that generate a lower level of revenues for the organization. I ve done tons of readings throughout my whole life, including articles and abstracts for school and just some novels and fiction books for entertainment. However, I barely paid attention at any of my readingroutine. All I was concentrated on were either getting the information I need from the text or, in case of a novel, enjoying the plot. Up until recently I had no idea if the way I was readingis productive or not, but after accomplishing my assignment for English class to read the texts from On Creative Reading , I tried to look at my reading process from a different angle. I noticed that some writing styles make it harder for me to read, concentrate and follow the idea of the text, if the writing consists of very long phrases and is overloaded with some difficult expressions and lots of unknown terms. On the other hand, if the author tries to keep the phrases more or less simple and clear, tries to hold my interests and makes the whole thing easy to follow, all those things make my reading process more pleasurable. Surely, the topic I m researching plays a prominent role in the level of pleasure I m receiving during the reading. I m more interested in reading some articles on photography or psychology rather than finance or physics. I would enjoy more reading some fiction than some assignments for school. Richard E. Miller and Ann Jurecic, the authors of Habits of the Creative Mind, point out that reading process is not the same for everyone. They ask questions like Once the process of reading has been routinized and internalized, why is that different people reading different material reach different conclusions? Or to put this another way, why is there ambiguity? (Miller and Jurecic 80). Indeed, after reading the same text, each of us will make different conclusions and have different feelings about what we ve read. The Garden Of Forking Paths Theme The infinite is a concept that is difficult for man to comprehend, yet in Jorge Luis Borges short story The Garden of Forking Paths he does such a fantastic job of describing this idea of infinity and its effect on mankind through his explanation of a labyrinth. This short story also can be used as somewhat of a lens while reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Borges story begins with frame narrativebut both stories are, for the most part, told from a first person point of view. This aspect of point of view is very helpful in supporting the idea of infinite possibilities and infinite universes. By writing their stories from a first person point of view Bechdel and Borges give their readers a glimpse into the idea that each action, however little that action or decision may be, always has a reaction that can alter the outcome of a persons life drastically. It is impossible to explain an exact outcome because there are numerous reasons why a certain result occurred. SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3).
