1. Example Of Satirical Essay
Embarking on the journey of crafting an essay on the subject of satire poses a unique set of
challenges. Writing a satirical essay requires a delicate balance between humor and critique, a
nuanced understanding of the target subject, and a mastery of language to effectively convey
the intended message. One must navigate the fine line between wit and mockery, ensuring that
the satire remains sharp but not offensive.
The difficulty arises from the need to blend creativity with a critical perspective. Crafting a
satirical piece demands an in-depth comprehension of the subject matter, as the effectiveness of
the satire often lies in the writer's ability to pinpoint absurdities or contradictions within the
chosen topic. This requires extensive research and a keen observational eye to identify the
nuances that can be exaggerated or lampooned for comedic effect.
Moreover, the challenge lies in maintaining a tone that resonates with the audience. A successful
satirical essay should elicit laughter and reflection simultaneously. Striking this delicate balance
requires a keen understanding of the audience's sensibilities and an adept use of rhetorical
devices to convey the intended humor and critique.
Additionally, the writer must be mindful of the potential for misinterpretation. Satire, by its
nature, may be prone to misunderstanding, and a well-intentioned piece can be misconstrued as
a serious statement. Thus, the challenge is to infuse the essay with enough cues to signal the
satirical nature while still maintaining a degree of subtlety.
In conclusion, writing an essay on satire demands a blend of creativity, critical thinking, and a
deep understanding of the subject matter. Navigating the thin line between humor and critique,
maintaining an audience-appropriate tone, and avoiding misinterpretation all contribute to the
inherent difficulty of crafting a successful satirical essay.

2. A Plan For Reducing Poverty Through Debt Forgiveness
In 1995 James Wolfensohn was appointed president of the World Bank. With this
new opportunity he designed a plan in hopes of reducing poverty through debt
forgiveness. The plan was called the highly indebted poor countries (HIPC) initiative
Countries would be eligible for this plan if they had unsustainable debt, debt ranging
from 200 250% of their export earnings. The first stage of HIPC involved a
structural adjustment for 3 years until the Decision Point was reached, if the debt was
still unsustainable there would be a 67% cancellation. The country would then enter
stage two which included another 3 years of adjustment until the completion point,
80% debt reduction and debt owed to the IMF would be cancelled by taking out of

In 2001 Ghana began the process in hopes of qualifying for the highly indebted poor
countries (HIPC) relief initiative in hopes of gaining financial commitment to the
Ghana Poverty reduction Strategy (GPRS). The goal of the GPRS and HIPC was to
increase food security and income as well as welfare needs such as health,
education, and water. Ghana s economy at the time was dealing with high inflation,
and declining exchange rate. The HIPC initiative aims to reduce the NPV or net
present value of external debt to a maximum 150% exports or, for small open
economies, to 250% of government revenue at the time of HIPC completion point
(Afoom, N 2011). The main problem most countries seem to face with regards to
HIPC is whether or not debt sustainability is achievable when it comes to low income
countries.
While the original HIPC initiative was quite successful in relieving debt and
reaching Ghana s completion point, the enhanced HIPC is believed to be what will
keep them from falling back into where they started. The enhanced HIPC initiative
was born during the G summit in Cologne, Germany in 1999. The initiative not only
helps develop the country but also puts into place strategies that can be clearly used
to reduce poverty. Funding for the initiative comes from two types of creditors;
bilateral and commercial, and multilateral creditors. With the new enhanced HIPC
initiative came new components and policies. The enhanced HIPC

Children during the elementary years are at the beginning of their academic careers.
It is at this time that they begin to develop self concept and their feelings of
competence as well as begin to become confident learners. They begin to hone skills
such as decision making, character values, life skills and the ability to communicate
effectively. During elementary schoolyears students will develop a variety of
feelings towards school, their self, social groups/friends and family. The knowledge
gained, possibly renewed attitudes and skills students acquire in the areas of
academic, career and social development during these elementary years serve as the
foundation for future success. As a school counselor, I feel I can have the greatest

Classical Conditioning Paper
Although classical conditioning is something that most people experience in a daily
basis, it may also be the first thing someone remembers in a day. According to Olson
and Hergenhahn (2009) classical conditioning is defined as a type of learning in
which a neutral stimulus comes to elicit a response after being paired with a
stimulus that naturally brings about that response. In this paper the subject is to
describe the theory of classical conditioning as well as describing a scenario in
which one could apply classical conditioning theory to, and bring forth the scenario
by showing illustrations of how this could be used ... Show more content on

This is known as the unconditioned stimulus (UCS). Meat is the unconditioned
stimulus because at the sight of the meat the dogs begin to salivate (Feldman,
2010). The dog s response to the meat educes salivation and is known as the
unconditioned response (UCR). An unconditioned response is defined as a
reflexive and natural response that is not connected to prior learning.
Unconditioned responses always occur in the presence of the unconditioned
stimulus (Feldman, 2010). While conditioning the dogs, Pavlov would ring a bell
right before the presentation of meat. Eventually, the dogs would associate the
ringing of the bell with the meat. Therefore, the dogs would begin to salivate at
the sound of the bell. At this point, Pavlov could state that he had classically
conditioned his dogs. The bell which was a prior neutral stimulus had now become
the conditioned stimulus (CS) that brought forth the conditioned response (CR) of
salivation (Feldman, 2010). Moreover, we have to ask what would happen if these
poor dogs were never again received food upon the ringing of the bell. This would
lead to extinction. Extinction occurs when a prior conditioned response decreases in
frequency and eventually disappears (Feldman, 2010). In order for Pavlov to
unconditioned his dogs he would have to break their association with the sound of
the ringing bell and the presentation of food. To do so he
6. The Technological Advances Of The Great Gatsby
1.Introduction Ever since the fall we have not been unable to physically restore
our glorious Eden experience, nor could we fix the mistake that Adam started with
either good living or hard work. No council could be gathered; no theologian could
negotiate his or her way out of our deserving judgment. We were indebted with sin,
unable to choose right from wrong. God s creation was just running around since
birth with no clue as to who are or what was if any power was in us. We are like
blind sheep aimlessly moving about with no direction, guidance or supervision.
But is that the case? Are we helplessly wrapped in flesh and totally depraved as
normal human beings? Depraved seems like such a solemn condition for such a
sophisticated race of people who have achieved so many great things. Consider the
technological advances we have accomplished, such as moving from horse driven
wagons to electric powered cars or only communicating via close proximity to
communicating via cell phones and email. There was a time when all people lived
in tents or makeshift homes, however, now were capable of erecting buildings
hundreds of stories in the air. Was God, not apart of this? Did He not use these
people? Was He not aware of our abilities before we were conceived? The depraved
state of humans would suggest we are in some parts incapable of good. How could
one be total depraved, without hope, and still able to do all these things?
Nevertheless, some would think that depravity means we
7. Increase of Unemployment in the United Kingdom
A political issue that the United Kingdom is currently facing is the increase of
unemployment which is positively helping the economy, as a result. The number of
citizens not working in the UK decreased by 63,000 to 2.33 million in only three
months to January 2014, according to official figures. (BBC) This is clearly a
significant current event in UK at the moment because 7.2% of their population is
without a job. The unemployment rate in Scotland fell to 6.9%, in Wales it was
6.7% while in Northern Ireland it was 7.5%. (BBC) Interestingly, I found that the
Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: Another significant fall in unemployment is
a sign our long term economic plan is working, providing security and chances for
hard working people. (BBC) In other words, the rising rate of unemployment is not
necessarily a clear indicator of a shattered economy. A large portion of the
unemployed are self employed businessmen or entrepreneurs working on their own
ventures and have found new ways of producing a steady income within the British
economy. Ultimately, the economic history and politics of this nation have been
originated by Parliament and are the primary cause for the rapid growth in the
business market right now.
The United Kingdom was founded in 1707. This is a region which is united from
three nations. These nations are England, Wales, and Scotland. By the nineteenth
century, there was speedy economic change that heightened and secured
8. What Is Phineas Gage Case
The Curious Case of Phineas Gage On the date of September 13th, 1848, one of
the greatest medical miracles in history occurred. Not only was this case amazing,
it was sounded too unbelievable to most and became liken into an old folk tale.
However, this was no folk tale. The story of the living mad with a rod in his head
was true and it stunned the entire medical community. This is the story of Phineas
Gage. Working on a railroad is a dangerous job even in modern times. Thousands of
people are hurt either working on railroads or being around railroads each year
(Schottenstein, 2015). Therefore, as you can imagine, injuries and deaths were
happening at an even higher rate in the 1800s. Phineas Gage was a railroad worker

Gage did, according to Harlow, retain full possession of his reason after the accident,
but his wife and other people close to him soon began to notice dramatic changes in
his personality (Constandi, 2006). Brain injury can often cause this type of
personality change. It has been documented in many different cases. However, post
injury personality changes also meant that we dealt with bouts of intense anger,
confusion, and unpredictable behavior (Cromer, 2012). These types of personality
can differ, however they are usually negative. This was seen in the case of Phineas
Gage. Sadly his personality and temperament wasn t the only thing that changed.
Before the accident he was considered as one of the best workers on the job site
(Constandi, 2006). However, after the injury, he could hardly work. (Constandi,
2006). His contractors, who regarded him as the most efficient and capable
foreman in their employ previous to his injury, considered the change in his mind
so marked that they could not give him his place again. He is fitful, irreverent,
indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his custom),
manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint of advice
when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinent, yet capricious
and vacillating, devising many plans of future operation, which are no sooner
arranged than they are abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. In
this regard, his mind was radically changed, so decidedly that his friends and
acquaintances said he was no longer Gage. (Constandi, 2006). He sadly resorted to
using his injury as an attraction to make money. He began traveling to do
appearances so that people could see the injury and pay him for the entertainment
(Constandi, 2006). He even decided to join up with the circus for a short period of
time
9. Parable Of Jesus 1-10
The parable of the Lost Son found in Luke chapter 15, verses 11 32, shows the
importance of practising repentance, and of finding the spiritually lost and returning
them to the Lord. The parable demonstrates that the Lord wishes that we return to his
kingdom; reconsidering our actions and realising wrong judgment does not affect
God s love is what it means to find oneself and enter into the kingdom of the Lord.
The parable of the Lost Son is a direct continuation of the two parables preceding it
(the parable of the lost sheep and the parable of the lost coin). The three parables, just
as with the other parables Jesus used to teach a particular message, comes in a set of
three to emphasise a specific message. In this case, all three parables ... Show more

This may suggest that the father was waiting for the return of his son, and was
willing to reconcile with his son. The father s decision to run emphasises the father
s love for his son. In 1st century Palestine, older men pulling up this robes to run
was undignified. His actions, representative of God s love for repentant sinners,
show God s acceptance, and joy of sinners returning to him. Despite hearing, the
son s confession ( no longer being worthy to be his son) chooses to dismiss his
confession, and decides to clothe him in his best robe... ring... and sandals . Robes
were given to honoured guests; the ring was a signet ring, which indicated
authority, and only family members wore sandals during those times. The Father s
next decision to organise a celebration feast, and bring the fattened calf was
something only done on festivals. Meat was primarily eaten on festivals this
implies that celebrating those who return from the loss is more important than a
religious festival. This celebration is equivalent to the rejoicing in the parables of
the loss of the lost sheep and coin. The son was celebrated for returning from the
dead and from being lost; this shows God s reaction when we return from sin. God
takes us back joyously rather than

The European Union (EU) has introduced and enacted a privacy law that protects all
of its member countries citizens from both governmental and commercial misuse of
citizens personal data. Meanwhile, the U.S. has been busy with protecting its
businesses (e.g. passing laws such as DMCA, et. al.). Of course, that is not to say
that no steps toward achieving a better privacy have been made by the U.S.
On April 21, 2000, Children s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has come
into effect[3]. This law states that no information about children under the age of
13 may be collected without prior parents consent[4]. Theoretically, the law only
allows the data to be used as described to the parent. In practice, however, it does
not prevent the operator (i.e. the collector of the information) from using the data in
any way they like so long as they mention the way of using the data. The reason for
that is that many parents do not read the agreement, and in some instances, the child
accessing the website is asked whether they have their parents permission, to which
they just answer yes without actually checking in with their parent or legal
guardian. It is partially due to those reasons that some companies have started
overcompensating for the law; for instance, AOL has disabled accounts for all users
that have specified that they are less than 13 years of age[5]. Currently, the service
is restricted to 13 and over users, which, as already

aled Air Corporation s From:Russel Jay Eserjose Re: Leveraged Recapitalization
Date:10/29/16 1. a. Sealed Air is a company that manufactures and distributes a
variety of protective packaging materials and systems. It was founded in 1960 and
has grown rapidly throughout its first 25 years of business. During 1987 and
1988, it became apparent from a performance side that management needed to
focus on the manufacturing component, which historically was neglected in favor
of marketing and sales. Although their revolutionary and significant products have
gotten them to where they are, the company was reliant on their old ways causing
a causing efficiency and external problems. When inspecting the efficiency ratios
of Sealed Air from 1987 to 1988, the collection period increased from 58.24 days to
61.36 days interpreting that it is taking longer to collect credit sales from their
distributers. This expresses a negative sign from business partners. Sealed Air s
inventory turnover ratio went from 6.37 to 6.36 showing no dramatic change, but
shows that the company sold more goods than held inventory due to the fact a
customer will pay for it. Lastly, their payable day s ratio went from 39.56 to 38.69.
Again, not a significant change, but shows that Sealed Air s distributors aren t
waiting to receive payments. Their profit margin from 1987 to 1988 decreased about
1%, but in 1989, increased about 1.5%. Sealed Air s operating performance has
remained stable from the periods

and growth go with each other: no country has ever reached a great economy
without a significant population shift into cities. According to United Nations
databases, the proportion of the 2014 world population living in urban areas was
54 per cent, heading for 66 per cent by 2050. Urbanization is necessary to keep up
growth in developing countries, and it yields other benefits as well. But it is not
pain less or always welcomed by policymakers or the general public. Managing
urbanization is an important part of nurturing growth; neglecting cities even in
countries in which the level of urbanization is low can impose heavy costs.
Historically, urban infrastructures have materialized as a response to emergent issues,
natural disasters are just an example of them. In the more distant past, construction
has been a driven by localized issues such as sanitation, flooding or fire. The reaction
has been to engineer systems (under the powers of centralized, state led planning and
public funding) that solve a single problem at a particular time. Little thought has been

15. Argumentative Essay On Orphan Children
Today there are around 140 million orphaned children around the globe. Orphaned
children are rarely spoken about nor does society educate itself on the complexity of
what being an orphan means. But speaking from experience, I understand the strain
of having to come to terms with the fact that you were abandoned. Despite one s best
efforts to maintain a fully functioning state of being, an emotional darkness always
maintains its presence and can pop out at any moment of low self confidence. Though
many orphaned children live many different types of lives; some are luckier than
others and some are stronger than others; many retain an unbalanced, sometimes,
unhealthy perceptions of themselves. I feel that ZenBuddhism would be the best
application for orphan children to think and practice in the here and now, learn to
accept aspects of life as they are, and attain compassion and detachment.
Buddhism has been touted as the cure all for many conscious, unconscious, and
physical illnesses. It has been especially exploited by the elites of America,
customized to fit their personal demands and desires. Paradoxically, I think the
diligent and honest study and practice of Buddhism can help those orphaned as
children, teenagers, or those living adult lives. More specifically, I believe that Zen
Buddhism and the practice of Zazen Meditation can harmonize and establish
themselves within the traditions and practices of Zen. At its core, Zen Buddhism is
practiced through meditation of allowing oneself to be conscious of their thoughts,
but at the same time letting them pass without acting upon them. To briefly
introduce, Zen Buddhism is comprised of two unique schools of Buddhism called
the Rinzai and Soto Zen Buddhism. The Rinzai sect in Japan found popularity
amongst the feudal lords and Shoguns. Soto, on the other hand, were penetrated
amongst the common people and were available to all because of its beauty in
simplicity. Despite Soto Zen being the most pervasive in Japanese practice, it was the
Rinzai sect that found popularity in the Western world. Regardless of its popularity
within the Western world, Soto Zen is more compatible in understanding and
reflecting on the life of being an orphan. One Japanese

A restructuring of religious doctrine, beliefs, and social practices during the 17th and
18th centuries in England, and in North America, infused with Calvinistic religious
doctrine initiated the beginning of The Great Awakening. Following this further,
according to Christine Leigh Heyrman, The First Great Awakening: Divining
America, a New Age of faith rose to counter the currents of the Age of Enlightenment.
Ultimately reaffirming the view that being truly religious meant trusting the heart
rather than the head, prizing feeling more than thinking, and relying on biblical
revelation rather than human reason. After a while, several religious revivals sprung
forth appeasing the colonists in America desire for a deep and significant personal
relationship with God. Thus, this dogma spread to other denominations throughout
the colonies in America (Heyrman). As a result, The Great Awakening spread
throughout the middle colonies in America by notable revivalist preachers instituting
moderate Calvinistic doctrinal theology especially for the Presbyterians and the
Congregationalists, and opened the door to unprecedented world societal changes.
Whether answering a call from God or by invitation, Theodorus Jacobus
Frelinghuysen came to America to minister to the Dutch population. Frelinghuysen
had acquired many of the theological leanings of a confessional pietist, among which
was a view of conversion. Although never officially systematized, confessional

17. The Government Under Its Welfare Program
1.Introduction
In this essay we compare two policies which are proposed by the government under
its welfare program in order to encourage the consumption of other goods. There are
3 groups of individuals, consuming two baskets of goods, food beverages, and others.
The restriction faced by the government is that the utility cannot be changed, which
means keeping the consumers equally happy as they were without these policies
without changing the welfare. The aim of both policies is to increase the
consumption of other goods because the government believes that it would improve
the standard of living for the families and hence encourage the couples to create
families.
The purpose of this coursework is to assess which policy option is more effective in
achieving the government s targets. This paper will be based on technical approach
and scientific methods such as optimization, consumer theory, Slutsky decomposition
and appropriate graphs presented that are applied to accurately illustrate and analyse
the impact of the policies. Findings of this investigation have revealed that both
policies are not implementable and not consistent. But policy 2 is more effective
and is seen as clear winner when implemented since it is the only policy that
ultimately increases the consumption of other goods, however still needs some
intervention in terms of its improvement, whereas policy 1 is never effective as the
net effect is 0. Eventually this paper will draw a conclusion by reaching

political and religious purposes. Many Americans applauded as justice was served to
the man who planned the attacks of 9/11, which slayed thousands of innocent
Americans almost fifteen years ago. Many people decided to celebrate the
declaration of Osama bin Laden s death by waving American flags and singing God
Bless America as the news coverage of his killing appeared throughout the media.
However, this celebration caused skirmish between those who thought it was right
to celebrate a murder, and those who believed in exultation at the end of the war.
In the article Why We Celebrate a Killing , the author exposed his ideas of why it
was constructive to rejoice Osama bin Laden s death as it united a diverse

The article The Aftershocks of bin Laden discusses that in war, the issue of morale
is critical. To break the enemy is to break his morale. The killing of Osama bin
Laden by U.S. Special Operations forces in a firefight north of the Pakistani capital
of Islamabad delivered a pivotal boost to American morale and a blow to the morale
of al Qaeda, with repercussions that are being felt worldwide. Bin Laden did not
mysteriously fade into oblivion, simply never to be heard from again, fueling
conjecture about his fate, and thus giving hope to the radicalized Sunni Muslim
faithful; nor did he die a natural death. He was hunted down and killed. This fact

20. The Negative Effects Of Social Media In Frankenstein, By...
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, Scientist Victor Frankenstein creates an
unnamed creature with a positive intended outcome; the situation quickly spiraled
out of control. This can be related to social media in our society today. Social media
was created also with a positive intended outcome to allow the user to be creative,
share content with friends and just enjoy the virtual world. Unfortunately, people in
society today are using social media to hurt one another rather than support each
other. This unintended use for social media today has been resulting in very
realistic effects, involving damage to adolescences mental health and their way of
life. Just like the creature in Frankenstein, Social media has damaged and killed
many people in its path. Social media has become a feeding ground for
cyberbullying which has now become the leading cause of depression, substance
abuse, and pre adolescencesuicide in the United States today. Cyber bullyingis any
aggressive act repeatedly causing harm to another through websites, blogs, emails,
texting, social networks, photographs, video games, etc. Cyber bullying isn t just
peer to peer bullying, Americas youth is being bullied by the companies who
sponsor these apps themselves. These companies are contributing to the mental
health issues such as depression caused by forced body images and low self esteem.
Both parties are doing this by using Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and many other

21. Parliamentary Protests Of The United States
The threat presented by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1815 20 was
plagued by weak and divided leadership which limited it from driving results that
met its full potential. However, there were also other factors that served to
undermine progress such as the actions of the government in repressing dissenters
and the low level of available logistical resources .
Evan tells us in Source 3 that the movement lacked coherent leadership. His view
supports the argument for the threat being undermined by the weakness of having
too many orators captivated by the sound of their own voices of whom not enough
bridged the gap between rhetoric and reality. Being unable to convey the actions
people would be required to take for change within their messages reduced the
movement almost to a talking shop of radical leaders, carried away without realistic
planning . We can see the fruits of their failed labours in the way the government had
little difficulty in handling any protests and this repeated derailing meant there was
rarely a leadership united enough to effectively inspire confidence. On the other hand,
Thompson deems radicalism to have assumed more conscious, organised and
sophisticated forms , going so far as to call it a heroic age , which somewhat refutes
the criticisms of inadequacy in the power of the speeches made. Indeed, the reality
that in addition to Norwich and Sheffield: Nottingham, Coventry and Bolton were
also assessed by the authorities as being
22. Essay On Road Trip
What would the United States be like without road trips? Road trips have been a
vital part of the history of America. Road trips have helped Americans explore the
vast lands that make up the US. These people take these trips for family vacations,
solo vacations, business, to move to a new location, to escape. These trips help
people gain a better understanding of people and different cultures within their own
country. This question is posed in David Campany A Short History of the Long Road
Is America imaginable without the roadtrip? (p.8) Without people exploring the land
and having a desire to move and start new many towns and cities would not have
been started. People like to explore and see new things that they may not have in
their birthplaces. This sense of exploring is what drives the American road trip.

24. How Did Social Darwinism Influence Hitler
Social Darwinism was a sociological theory popular in late nineteenth century
Europe and the United States. It merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection and Herbert Spencer s sociological theories to justify imperialism, racism,
and laissez faire (conservative) social and economic policies. Adolf Hitler was
amongst those inspired and spurred on by Social Darwinism, which he used as a
foundation for Nazi theory and race policies in the years leading up to the
Holocaust. In this paper I will discuss the profound influence of Darwinism on
Hitler s ideology, and examine the ways that the Nazi racial and biological policy
grew out of a well established and generally accepted scientific tradition.
There is little doubt that the history of ethnocentrism, racism, nationalism, and
xenophobia has been also a history of the use of science and the actions of
scientists in support of these ideas and social movements. In many cases it is clear
that science was used merely as raw material or evidence by ideologically interested
political actors as proof of preconceived notions.

Social Darwinists argued that individuals and groups, just like plants and animals,
competed with one another for success in life. They used this idea to justify the status
quo by claiming that the individuals (or groups of individuals) at the top of social,
economic, or political hierarchies belonged there, as they had competed against others
and had proven themselves best adapted. Any social or political intervention that
weakened the existing hierarchy, they claimed, would undermine the natural

In order to better society, the world constantly needs people to advocate for their
beliefs. The idea of the American Dream encompasses not only hard work to achieve
success, but also the obligation of people to extend their potentials to better the
world. To live the American Dream means that one constantly puts forth energy to
make a bettersociety. Michelle Obamaembodies the American Dream in that she
works hard for her success, and uses her success to advocate for the needs of
others. The platform of knowledge and understanding of society that Michelle
Obama has created for herself enables her to become the ideal image of the
American Dream. The possibilities are endless once one has access to education,
and Obama not only uses her hard earned education to better her own life, but
works to inspire the world to make education more readily available for others.
Obama uses the means given to her and utilizes her own experiences to improve the
lives of others. The true definition of the American Dream is perfectly encompassed
by Michelle Obama, in that it is greater than oneself and how advocating and

Laxmidas and Karsandas and an older sister named Raliabehn. He also had two
half sisters born from his father s previous marriage. Out of all of his siblings,
Gandhi was the youngest (Rau 4). Gandhi s father, Karamchand, was the diwan, or
prime minister, of Porbandar. Because of this, Gandhi and his family lived a
comfortable life in a three story house along with numerous servants. On the other
hand, Gandhi s mother, Putlibai, had deep Hindu traditions. She was extremely
religious. She could often be found praying, fasting, and worshipping in the temple
to honor God. Putlibai s devotion to the Lord left a huge impression on Gandhi as
a young boy (Rau 6 7). When Gandhi was seven years old, he and his family
moved to an inland city called Rajkot. This is where Gandhi started school.
Although he adored school, he was incredibly, painfully shy. Gandhi once stated
that his books and his lessons were his only companions. As soon as he was done

interactions with his classmates. One of Gandhi s many, many fears was that he
would be made fun of him. At this point in his life, he was very weak in

Luxembourg is known to have the best health care system in the world. In
Luxembourg, every citizen has health care insurance and each member is protected
by basic medical coverage. Citizens in Luxembourg have health care taxes taken
out of each check which is on average 5.44 percent of gross income (Health
Management, 2017). Dependents are covered under their guardians who pay health
care taxes. Another perk of the Luxembourg health care system is that students are
covered for free until the age of 27. The insurance pays for any basic procedure or
treatment that is medically necessary, if someone chooses to have an elective
procedure one must self pay. Options are given to the citizens to have private health

The United States has several different insurance options for citizens such as
insurance via an employer, insurance purchased privately or free health care
provided by the government. Individuals qualify for free medical care if they are of
low income or over the age of 65. The different insurance companies can pick and

Redefining the Tragic
The power of tragic heroes in literature is almost immeasurable in that they evoke
multiple emotions within the reader. Through pain and suffering, heroes of tragedy
fill the audience with not only terror and pity, but also relief through a cathartic
experience. Over two thousand years ago, Aristotle first defined what characteristics
make up a tragic hero. He claimed that heroes of tragedy must be fundamentally
decent, of noble status, and eventually destroyed by a situation that exposes their one
tragic flaw. Consider Chinua Achebes famous Things Fall Apart: the protagonist of
the novel, the once mighty and respected warrior, Okonkwo of Umofia, is the
paragon of the Aristotelian definition of a tragic hero. His suicide and loss of
power within the tribe is not caused by his negative qualities, but rather his respect
to his elders and their traditions. However, there are also characters of literature that
do not fulfill all of Aristotle s requirements and still leave the reader with an
overwhelming sense of tragedy. For instance, the main character of John Steinbeck s
Of Mice and Men, the average and short tempered, George Milton, fails to meet
several aspects of the ancient definition. Despite his low social status, George s
murder of his mentally disabled companion, Lennie, consumes the reader with a
feeling of both compassion and fear. Also consider The Good Earth by

when in battle. These suits were made of many separate pieces of armor that all
protected a different part of the knights body. All of the pieces of the armor also
have their own names. There were multiple types of armor from the fifteenth
century, such as chainmail armor or plate armor. This project was an example of
plate armor. Plate armor was made of large metal plates that sometimes covered
the whole body. Plate armor was used to protect a soldier from being wounded in
battle, and was mostly effective. Early plate armor was made out of leather, iron, or

Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry
In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second
largest city. Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants
came to the United States with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better
life for themselves. A city like Chicago offered these people jobs that required no
skill. However, the working and living conditions were hazardous and the pay was
barely enough to survive on. This is the bases for Upton Sinclair s book, The Jungle.
Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants,
for the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. The Jungle, published in 1906, is

They needed help from the government and local community. In other words,
machine politics. Politicians played an important role in the political machine. In
order to maintain this role, they received substantial kickbacks from the owners of
the factories. They would recruit people to help the immigrants become citizens of
the United States, and then pay the immigrants to vote for a specific candidate,
often several times. Before the Progressive Party materialized, there were just the
Democrats and the Republicans, and the one got the office which bought the most
votes. Readers were not concerned with the treatment of workers, as portrayed by
The Jungle, because they really didn t care for the working class, or more
specifically, immigrants. However, readers were shocked when they discovered
exactly how their meat was processed and prepared. Sinclair used just as much, if
not more, gruesome detail in describing the products the American public was
consuming, as he did when describing the workplace, living conditions, politics,
society and Chicago s scenery. In a futile attempt to build up the readers sympathy
toward the wage slaves, Sinclair also details the process in which foods not related
to the meat packing industry are prepared. For example, he writes, their pale blue

32. Four Stages Of Jean Piaget
Piaget When Jean Piaget s ideas became widely popularized in the 1960s, the
designation of development as a major sub field of psychology soon followed. His
cognitive development theory has four major stages, as follows: 1.Sensorimotor
stage (birth through age two). The child experiences the world through movement
and her five senses. A child is extremely egocentric in this stage and cannot perceive
the world from others viewpoints. During the sensorimotor stage children come to
develop object permanence. 2.Preoperational stage (ages two to seven). Beginning
with the child s learning to speak, this stage sees an increase in children s playing
and pretending, primarily through symbolic play and manipulating symbols. Children
in this stage continue to have difficulty seeing things from different points of view.
The two substages of the preoperational stage are the symbolic function substage and
the intuitive thought substage. 3.Concrete operational stage (ages seven to eleven).
In this stage children are beginning to think logically and are no longer egocentric.
They greatly improve their classification skills and become more aware of logic and
conservation. 4.Formal operational stage (ages eleven to sixteen). This stage sees the
development of abstract reasoning. Children in this stage develop abstract thought
and can conserve and think logically with more facility. Children in the formal
operational stage show more skills for problem solving. Piaget described different
types of intellectual structures, or schemata, in his work: Behavioral (sensorimotor)
schemata organized patterns of behavior that represent and respond to objects and
experiences. Symbolic schemata internal mental symbols, including images or verbal
codes, used to represent aspects of experience. Operational schemata internal mental
activity performed on objects of thought. As Piaget described them schemata are
significantly important building blocks of development and are modified by on
going experiences. They are continuously being modified or changed and can be a
generalized idea based on prior knowledge or experience. Erikson A student of Anna
Freud (daughter to Sigmund Freud), Erik Erikson saw human development as

COMPARE AND CONTRAST OLIVER TWIST
INTRODUCTION
Everyone is aware that books have a richer backstory and more intrigues than a
film, and that is natural due to the length of the book compared to the film. But
why does everyone always say that the book was better than the film, even though,
the film is way more focused and fast paced? Is it really that big of a difference
between the book and the film? I will use this compare and contrast essay to try
and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and very
different from the film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why
people generally think that the book is better than the film.

That is why Brownlow is talking to Nancy in the film unlike in the novel where Rose

The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This
contrast is not very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and
the novel.
I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film
and I will explain why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do
with the fact that the more focused the content becomes, the less room is left for the
significant side facts so to speak. What I am trying to say is that the film makes no
sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. But if you have read the book you

antiquated blowdown drum used to collect gasoline. However, BP decided to bank
a saving of $150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital

the direct cause of the 2005 explosion. On March 23, 2005, BP employees began

38. The Ultimate Dilemma During Car Shopping
The ultimate dilemma during car shopping: should I buy a new car or a used car?
There are endless variables when considering either option, however I am going to
restrict this analysis to two factors: the value and finance of new cars. I will
conclude with an informed decision regarding the decision whether to buy new
over used, based on the data. New cars are known to depreciate once it leaves the
lot, meaning cars lose their value over time due to normal use and wear and tear. In
fact, new vehicleslose 20% of its value within the first year of ownership (Stefanac,
2014). To put that in perspective, a $24,000, 2018 Hyundai Sonata will be valued
at $19,200 just after the first year. Each subsequent year the value drops until
around year five, when the decrease is less significant (still depreciates through its
lifetime). A new car loses about 60% of its value within the first five years
(Edmunds, 2010). Looking at the 2018 Hyundai Sonata, it will only be worth
approximately $9,600. If someone chose to buy this vehicleused, it would be wise to
purchase after the five year period so they are not hit by the significant depreciation
drop. It is also important to note that different vehicle s depreciation will drop at
different speeds for various reasons, for the purpose of this paper, we are looking at
the average of all vehicles. There are many factors that contribute to depreciation.
Normal wear and tear are minor imperfections that can be repaired or recovered in a

think about racism going on or civil rights starting to change the America. That s
mostly how Americans think anyway because they don t bother to focus on the
past history of life they are to stuck up in the 21st century. During the roaring 20s
Murder Incorporated made a huge mark at a that time. Before it can be read on
Murder Inc there were a lot of slang going on at this time. Lepke had his gat on
deck ( Crime ) gat means gun. Reason for slang words like these is because they
knew the cops were listening to some of their conversations so they didn t want the
cops to get the memo of what they were saying. Cops referred to most of the the

40. Kennedy Cubicle Incident Summary
Mr. Narvil once again told him to back up and sit down. At that time, Mr. Kennedy
complied and followed the instruction given. June 30, 2015, between the hours
2:00 p.m. and 3:00p.m., Mr. Kennedy alleges for approximately 30 seconds Ms.
Champagne came into his cubicle fast and in a threating manner as he alleges she
did before. He stated that he was shocked to the core , and that she was so close to
him and that he did not hear what she was saying. Mr. Kennedy alleges that Ms.
Champagne was there for approximately 30 seconds and felt that she there to
intimidate him and was yelling and screaming to the point where liquid (spit or
saliva) came from her mouth and was being deposited all over him. He did not
confirm what Ms. Champagne had said nor did he not confirm whether anyone heard
or witness the exchange. During a meeting to discuss the cubicle incident, Mr.

41. Eugenics And Its Impact On Society
Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating
poverty, crime, and social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are
closely interdependent. Changes within society cause a need for modifications within
the school system. Similarly, alterations within the schoolsystem impact society.
Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in drastic
educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school
reform to the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general
population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is
the study of the agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the
racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999,
p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school systems; American s often want
to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an insidious effect on
the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were
passed down in families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf,
1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided to sterilize many families who may carry these traits.
They argued, America must be kept American (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept
provided the guiding ideology behind
42. Oedipus The King Feminist Analysis
Comparison Contract Feminist Approach to Metamorphosis Oedipus the King The
feminist approach is based on finding and exposing negative attitudes toward women
in literature. Feminists are interested in exposing the undervaluing of women in
literature that has long been accepted as the norm by both men and women. Women
characters in both Metamorphosis and Oedipus the King have different and similar
characteristics based on the general norms so that they can be exposed by the
feminist approach. In Metamorphosis and Oedipus the King, feminist approach is
through the description of women about the traditional gendervalues of women,
women s inequality of power and importance, and women s effect to the whole
society. Traditional gender value for women that most people is used to accepting
is weak . When Gregor s mother saw Gregor in the vermin form for the first time

When Oedipus rushes out of the city and tells everyone that he murdered his father
and married his mother, everyone pities him but not his mother Jocasta who also
experienced this nauseating situation. In Metamorphosis, we can see that Grete is
so essential in the process of taking care of her brother Gregor. She thinks of smart
ways to find out what foods do her brother likes and moves the furniture in order to
get more moving spaces for him. Grete changes into a cold blood, strong woman and
slightly starts to live on herself, this is the difference between Metamorphosis and
Oedipus the King which Grete in Metamorphosis sometimes does act as a important
place in the family while Jocasta almost has no importance in the society except her
43. The Recurring Theme of Death in the Poetry of Philip
Larkin.
The Recurring Theme of Death in the Poetry of Philip Larkin. In reading the poetry
of Philip Larkin for the first time, one is struck by the characteristically glum
atmosphere that pervades most of his poems. The vast majority of his verse is
devoted to what is generally taken to be negative aspects of life, such as loneliness
and dejection, disappointments, loss, and the terrifying prospect of impending death.
Evidently, there are uplifting and humorous sides to his work as well, but for certain
reasons Larkin is invariably identified with a downhearted, pessimistic temper and
tone of voice, conveying a constant sense of failure and of disappointment that
underlies all the more specific emotions and reflections of individual... Show more

In Send No Money , this sense of having been cheated is voiced with embittered
bluntness. Someone is kept from getting the best out of his life by a false promise
of knowledge: while in his youth his mates went to enjoy themselves, the persona
kept himself apart, aspiring to wisdom: Tell me the truth, I said, Teach me the way
things go. (146) But his sacrifice earned him nothing, and after the initial
enthusiasm is vanished it begins to dawn on him that he has been cheated: Oh
thank you, I said, Oh yes please, And I sat down to wait Half life is over now Sod
all. In this way I spent youth Tracing the trite untransferable Truss advertisement,
truth. (146) Larkin thus gives the impression that the reality of life as it presents
itself to him falls blatantly short of what he expected. This disillusionment is
particularly prominent when it comes to an assessment of what he has, or rather
has not, achieved so far in life. More than once Larkin indicates the feeling that his
lifetime passes unused. He talks about time/ Torn off unused ( Aubade , 208) and
asks: Where has it gone, the lifetime? ( The View , 195). The reader gets the sense
that Larkin s life was unfulfilled; his only outlet to express this
44. Analysis Of The Poem The Odyssey
Penelope is identified by relatively few epithets within the last six books of the
Odyssey, and indeed, throughout the poem. Her most common epithet is
circumspect, although she is also referred to as the respected wife of Odysseus and
the daughter of Ikarios with relative frequency as well. It is not until the end of the
poem, specifically Book Twenty Four, that Penelope gains a broader spectrum of
identifying epithets, including blameless and prudent (Homer, Odyssey24.194, 198).
Her identification as circumspect is important to the overall theme of
ОЅПЊПѓП„ОїП‚ (homecoming) in the Odyssey. In addition, the manner in which
she is described within the poem stays relatively stable until the last two books,
wherein Penelope gains greater depth as a female character when she is reunited with
her husband. Penelope, like most women, is identified through her male relatives, in
this case through her husband Odysseusand her father Ikarios. This is not an
uncommon style of epithets, even amongst the suitors. This is therefore not meant
to diminish her role as regent of Ithaka while Odysseus is away at war. However, it
should be noted that Penelope feels that her identity is controlled entirely by
Odysseus (Homer, Od. 18.251 255). Despite this, Penelope is very much her own
independent character, as is shown by her adept ability at stalling the suitors and
ruling as regent over Ithaka for the duration of Odysseus absence.
The most common epithet of Penelope is
45. Pennies And Dimes Lab Report
Discussion
As presented in Table 1, only pennies were used in this part of the experiment. 8
pennies were added to the cup at each interval, and in response to the addition, the
force consistently increased by 0.20 N. This demonstrated an upward trending linear
relationship, as can be seen in Figure 1. The slope, or m, represents the weight of a
penny, which, is shown in Figure 1 as 0.025 N. The x values represent the
independent variable, which is the # of pennies, while the y values represent the
dependent variable, force (N). Slope can be represented as the change in the force
(N) divided by the change in the # of coins. The value for slope in this data set
represents the force per coin. The y intercept value (b) is 0, which is the y value ...

Initially, 1 dime was added to the cup, followed by the addition of 1 penny, then 1
nickel, and finally 1 quarter. The idea was to add the coins in order from the
lightest coin in weight (dime) to the heaviest (quarter) in order to get an upward
trend line. When 1 dime was added to the cup, the force was 0.03 N, however,
when a penny was added to the cup, the force was increased to a total of 0.05 N.
This represented only a 0.02 N change when the penny was added. This
information is inferring that a dime weighs more than a penny, however, this is
not true. An error that may have occurred could be that the penny was added
before the dime was added. Therefore, the penny would have weighed 0.3 N and
the dime would have weighed 0.2 N. However, the information in Table 3 does
demonstrate that the nickel weighs less than the quarter, but more than the penny
and dime, giving an upward trend line. The slope of the line passing through points
(1,0.03) and (4,0.2) is 0.056 N. Therefore, 0.056 N is the average weight of the
coins. The x values represent the # of coins, the y values represent the force (N),
and the y intercept value is 0. Initially, a linear graph was generated for Figure 3,
however, the trend line did not pass through each point on the graph and the R2
value was .82. Therefore, a polynomial trend line was incorporated into the graph, as
seen in Figure 3. The

47. Group Size And Exposure Time
To Conform or Not to Conform: An Experiment on Group Size and Exposure Time
Over the years, there have been many tragedies such as the holocaust that happened
in 1933. Many people wondered what caused these soldiers and civilians to go
along with Hitler. In the society we live in, we are taught right from wrong at a very
young age. How many people conformed in order to help kill more than 11 million
people and why? At what point does the definition for right and wrong become a
blur? Learning the causes and effects of conformity can help us understand why the
ignorant leaders are followed. Throughout the years, many psychologists have tried to
understand and uncover the secrets of conformity that Asch left behind. Asch s
results showed
48. Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and...
Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition There are three main
reasons why we have or need our Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and
petition. First, the 1st Amendment gives us our independence. Second, it also gives
us the right to express ourselves. Last but not least, it allows people to express
themselves without constraint by the government. The 1st Amendment is a very
essential freedom that everyone should be entitled to. Our independence is the most
important essential need of humans. It lets us be and act how we are and want to be.
The reason why the Europeans immigrated to America was to find their freedom of

I hold it to be impracticable; and from this, I infer, that its security, whatever fine
declarations may be inserted in and constitution respecting it, must altogether
depend on public opinion, and on the general spirit of the people and of the
government, And here, after all, as intimated upon another occasion, must we seek
for the only solid basis of all our rights. Hamilton can really describe what being
able to express you self in press means. It is very important to be able to also
express what you want to say. Everyday in the United States, several judicial cases
are brought up by individuals and groups asking the courts to protect their freedom
of expression guaranteed to them under the First Amendment of the Constitution
of the country. As you can tell we need our freedom of expression daily! The
Government is supposed to let people express themselves without constraint. The
1st Amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the government for a redress of grievances. It clearly states there that the
congress can not take our freedom to exercise what we believe. I am so happy that
we have the privilege and right to express what and how we want. In some
49. Curley s Wife Description
Throughout most of the book Curley s wife strikes us as a compelling and riveting
character as we initially see her as a wicked character till those few seconds before
she dies where you think, hey she might not be so bad after all. In the novel of Of
mice Mice and men Men Curley s wife s image is portrayed as a very sexual,
flirtatious, cheeky and desperate. Steinbeck uses specific words, sentences and
techniques to create the image of Curley s wife as one that is very contrasting.
Steinbeck creates contrasting representations of Curley s wife using the phraseand the
meanness and planning and discontent and the ache for attention with were all gone.
The juxtaposition of the two phrases is used to show the reader that all her bad
qualities and all her obnoxiousness has all been washed away and it has disappeared
into thin air and we actually start to somewhat feel pity for this character that we had
thought to be a b***h and a tart. The long sentenceand syndetic listing actually

This contrasts all of the bad qualities of her that we have ever had and make us feel,

to mean that she is fragile and can be quite easily, or that she is quite likely to snap

her as fragile or short

The Hound of the Baskervilles combines essentially two main embedded narratives
into one frame narrative which creates a one story, there is first the frame narrative
of the detective and then the embedded narrative of the legend and well as the
narrative of Sir Charles death and Sir Henry s coming. By embedding the narratives
into the frame narrative, you get one story of Sherlock Holmesworking on a case that
has to do with the Hound of the Baskervilles. The sensible and logical detective
side of the novel takes root whenever Holmes is present in the narrative. In these
sections of the book, logical reasoning overplays the eerie events that go on at
Baskerville Hall. For a good part of the story, Holmes is not present, which leads the

Gatsby...
The American Dream is hard to achieve The Great Gatsby , written by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, portrays a world filled with rich societal activities, love affairs, and
dishonesty. Nick Carraway is the busy narrator of the book, a curious choice
considering that he is in a different class and almost in a different world than
Gatsby and the other characters. Nick relates the plot of the story to the reader as a
part of Gatsby s circle. He has hesitant feelings towards Gatsby, despising his
personality and corrupted dream but feeling drawn to Gatsby s wonderful ability to
hope. Using Nick as an honorable guide, Fitzgerald attempts to guide readers on a
journey through the novel to show the corruption and failure of the American Dream.

101). Gatsby is disappointed that the woman he loves is not really who he wants
her to be. Gatsby wants a better life and he thinks he can do it if he puts his mind
to it, which is also a part of the American Dream. Nonetheless, Gatsby s dream
collapses when he fails to win Daisy and is not accepted by the upper class. All his
money cannot help him when old man Wilson fires a gun at him. Gatsby sees
himself as a failure when Daisy chooses Tom instead of him. The failure of Gatsby
s hoped for life relates to the failure of the American Dream. Without his dream
Gatsby has nothing, nothing to keep him going, no direction, and no purpose to
live. Myrtle, who represents the low and ignorant class of America, tried to break
the social barriers and thus pursues wealth by any means necessary. Using her
sexuality and crude appearance, she becomes false for abandoning and dismissing
her own social foundation, and like Nick, we as readers are disgusted by her
monstrous approach to entering the rich class. At one point, and quite humorously
to the knowing onlooker, Myrtle complains about a service done for her that was so
expensive. Obviously misusing her wording, it is comical only because she is trying
so hard to fit into the stuck up upper class personality, and failing miserably. Her
rudeness becomes more
53. A Brief Note On The Ethics Of Placebo
1.The Ethics of Placebo.
In medical field, it is quite interesting considering how the brain works and the
power of mind perception that can affect the overall body. In this case, placebos are
examples that justify this. Placebos are mainly given to a patient to ease the pain
and to satisfy their desire of wanting to receive a medical care or treatments or
plainly just the desire of the doctor to help. Regarding to whether patient should be
informed or not, I think that informing a patient is not obligatory when prescribing a
placebo. Scientifically, it is proven that the use of placebo in treating some diseases
seems to work effectively with or without deception. Kaptchuk et al. (2010) reported
that nearly 60% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome felt better after knowingly
consuming placebos (in the form of sugar pills) comparing to 35% of patients
without such medication. But if we take an insight look at the research, even though
the patients know about the placebo, the researchers however, also added that it has
shown to promote or generate a self healing processes related to mind body
connection. This implicates that it might not be the placebo itself that cause such
placebo effects but how it is given in terms of addressing the message to the patients.
In other words, they implanted a suggestion to the patients that even though it is just
a sugar pill but it is proven to be useful that made patients became more convinced
that it has the same effect as the actual
54. In considering the process of change in the relationship...
In considering the process of change in the relationship between Ireland and Great
Britain between 1801 and 1921, how far can the 1886 Home Rule Bill be seen as a
key turning point?
In 1815 Ireland was part of the union though by 1921 it was partitioned. The years in
between saw group and individual efforts in trying to change the relationship between
Ireland and Great Britain. Parnell s campaign for Home Rule is seen as a key turning
point that potentially was the most important kick starting change within the union.
1886 was undoubtedly a turning point as it gave hope for both a just and feasible
solution to the problem of the Irish government . In 1886 the Liberal Party Prime
Minister of the UK, William Gladstone, decided that ... Show more content on

When O Connell won the Country Clare election in 1828 it seemed impossible for
there to be no change of the rules within parliament. The Roman Catholic
Emancipation Act was passed in 1829 due overall support in the House of
Commons and it could be said that this led to positive change for Irish Nationalism.
Many opportunities were sprung open by this act, especially for the middle class, in
political and professional jobs in particular. Also, O Connell teamed up with the
Whigs and managed to pass a number of acts such as the Irish Church Act, which
could also have been seen to help. O Connell s success also seemed to forge a link
between Irish nationalism and Catholicism. All of these things seem to suggest that
1829 was a turning point for Irish nationalism.
However O Connell s hopes that emancipation would lead to repeal did not
materialise. The Act has succeeded in its intention to keep the union intact. The
middle class gained most from it and became content. They did not support the
repeal campaign, and was a reason for its failure and furthermore, there was no
support in parliament for repeal of the union. There has at least been serious
consideration of change in the union in 1886.
By the end of the repeal campaign O Connell was receiving criticism from more
extreme groups such as Young Ireland. The Great Famine was a key event in
changing the relationship between Great Britain and

horticulture as the art or science of growing fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or

farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself or how
horticulture relates to anthropology, or the study human culture. In all actuality,
horticulture is a major part of cultural anthropology. The groups that hunt and grow
food, and the associated eating rituals or ceremonies associated with food differs by

(Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are
organized by patrilineal kinship relationships, patrilineal descent from ancestors,
and marriage exchanges between kinship/descent groups. In the Yanomamo tribes,
the men are the leaders. The male leaders positions are mostly because of marriage
patterns and kinship. Yanomamo people often participate in arranged marriages and
the tribesmen often take multiple wives. In addition to polygamy, cross cousin
marriages are also a part of the Yanomamo culture. Woman are more or less
possessions in the Yanomami culture and the males position of power or importance
is often rated or scaled based on the number of wives he has. The woman spend most
of their time fetching water, caring for their children, and visiting with one another.
The woman of the tribe often spend a good deal of time weaving baskets and other
small crafts and also engage to some degree in fishing. The other main responsibilities
include cooking, gathering firewood and berries and fruits. The men of the tribe are
responsible for the distribution of food for the Yanomamo people. Males do the
majority of the fishing and hunting and while they do not eat the animals they hunt,
rather they share their meat with others within the tribe. The favor is returned by
other male hunters within the tribe. Male Yanomamis also spend time
