An Essay On The First Principles Of Government Essay
The Alabama Senate recently voted in favor of Senate Bill 193, allowing Briarwood Presbyterian
Church to create its own police force (Blumberg). Briarwood Presbyterian now has the right to
appoint and employ one or more persons to act as police officers to protect the safety and integrity of
the church and its ministries (LegiScan). The protesters of the Bill see it as a violation of the
Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which states the government may not pass any laws
respecting any establishment of religion , including favoring one religion or disallowing the free
practice of religion (Carlson). Supporters of the Bill say that prohibiting the creation of their police
force prevents the safe practice of their religion, also a violation of the First ... Show more content on

Priestley explicitly argued for separation of Church and State in his An Essay on the First Principles of
Government . In Priestley s opinion, All the civil societies we enter into this life will be dissolved by
death. , meaning that when we die, only allegiance to God matters (An Essay on the First Principles of
Government, pg. 194). Priestley holds a belief which puts religion above government. On the issue of
the creation of a Briarwood Church Police Force, Priestley would likely be in support of it. The
potential problem with the Briarwood Police is that they could overstep their authority and create
religious violence. Priestley believes that religion is inherently moral and good, meaning that the
Church officers will be moral and act appropriately. Priestley would conclude that disallowing the
creation of this police force would leave Briarwood vulnerable to immoral, non religious people who
could cause them harm. The main weakness to this claim is that Briarwood has not experienced any
such threats of

Kristallnacht
The Night of Shimmering Glass Kristallnacht, Night of Crystal, was a turning point between Germany
and the rest of the world. On November 9th, 1938, an uprising against the Jewish residents of
Germany and Austria occurred. This attack against the Jewish was referred to as a pogrom.
Kristallnacht was the first marked nationwide action against religion. The Nazi regime and their wish
to implement Nuremberg s laws helped push start the process of degrading Jews to an inferior level in
life by giving reason to start the riot. The accumulation of events and new laws leading to
Kristallnacht forced thousands of Jews to be stuck on the border lines of Poland and Germany, thus
setting the stage for Germany s justification for the genocide yet ... Show more content on

1938 March 31 The Polish Senate passes he Expatriots Law, canceling citizenship for Polish Jews
living outside the country, unless their passports are checked and stamped by Polish consular officials
by the end of October. (7) In other words, if Polish citizens living abroad failed to meet with
appropriate officials, they were no longer welcomed to the country. This conflict of German and
Polish laws left thousands of Polish Jews on the border, between Poland and Germany, in the cold and
with little or no provisions. This deportation also led to the next step accelerating the events of
Kristallnacht. In the crowd of Polish Jews being held at the border, the Grynszpan family acted as the
detonator to Kristallnacht. On November 3rd 1938, Herschel Grynszpan, at the time living in Paris,
received a postcard from his family informing him of their conditions and asking for his help. (8)
Angered and annoyed by the situation and how it was being handled by both the Germans and the
Polish, on November 7th Grynszpan walked into the German Embassy in Paris and fatally wounded a
German official named Ernst vom Rath. On November 8th, following the murder of Ernst vom Rath,
attacks and destructions of Jewish property already had started. Vom Rath s death, declared on
November 9th, gave the Nazi regime a perfect reason to organize a pogrom. On November 9th and
10th, 1938 the Nazi s staged a monstrous anti Jewish

Interpreting the Handmaid s Tale
Interpreting The Handmaid s Tale
The Handmaid s Tale is distinguished by its various narrative and structural divisions. It contains four
different levels of narrative time: the pre Revolution past, the time of the Revolution itself, the
Gileadean period, and the post Gileadean period (LeBihan 100). In addition, the novel is divided into
two frames, both with a first person narrative. Offred s narrative makes up the first frame, while the
second frame is provided by the Historical Notes, a transcript of a lecture given by a Cambridge
professor. The distinctions in structure and narrative perspective parallel the separation of Gileadean
residents into different social roles.
Offred s narrative is mainly of the Gileadean period, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the instance of women in the novel, this power comes from their indispensable role in the
propagation of society. As Offred tells her story, she incorporates the stories of other women into her
narrative. Her voice multiplies to become the voice of women rather than the voice of a single narrator
(133). Thus, The Handmaid s Tale isn t just Offred s protest against her oppressive condition, but the
collective protest of every woman.
The Historical Notes comprising the second frame of the novel provide an important shift in
perspective. The Notes are a transcript of a lecture given by the professor, Darcy Pieixoto, at an
academic symposium on Gileadean Studies two hundred years after Gilead has become ancient
history. The reader finds out that Pieixoto and his colleague are the ones responsible for the
transcription and editing of the handmaid s story. (As it turns out, Offred s account is not actually
written, but recorded onto cassette tapes). Pieixoto treats Offred s story in a scientific and detached
manner. For him, her account is merely a resource for gaining knowledge of the former Gilead
Republic.
The shift from Offred as narrator to Pieixoto as narrator does two things. First, it signifies Offred s
inability to make her voice heard; the voice of the male narrator in the last part of the novel threatens
to drown out Offred s voice and the significance of her autobiography. Secondly, it leaves readers with
the challenge of

Karl Popper And The Scientific Method
Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th Century.
He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in which one
uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm that law through
more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified (Popper 14). Inductivism
relies on the process of inductive reasoning which is a logical process in which multiple premises, all
thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are combined to obtain a conclusion and in
many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory
called empirical falsification which holds that a theory can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and
therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through experimentation.
In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including the
topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information) or
tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory,
through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through counterexamples
(Oxford).
Popper opines that a significant problem with the scientific method is that scientists get so caught up
in evidence that supports a specific conjecture that they either 1) fail to consider

It is possible for an individual who dies or becomes totally disabled at an early age to be classified as
fully insured with less than 40 quarters. To receive old age insurance benefits, covered individuals
must also meet the test of retirement. To meet this test, persons under 70 cannot be earning more than
an established amount through gainful employment. This limitation of earnings does not include
income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or pensions. Social security
retirement benefits consist of those benefits which individuals are entitled to receive in their own
behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for eligible dependents. These
benefits can be determined from a prepared table. There are also both minimum and maximum limits
to the amount that individuals and their dependents can receive.
The Social Security program provides benefit payments to workers who are too severely disabled to
engage in gainful employment. In order to be eligible for such benefits, an individual s disability must
have existed for at least 6 month and must be expected to continue for at least 12 months. Those
eligible for disability benefits must have worked under Social Security for a t least 5 out of the 10
years before becoming disabled. Disability benefits, which include auxiliary benefits for dependents,
are computed on the same basis as retirement benefits and are converted to retirement

The Importance Of Transformative Discovery In William...
It is through challenging circumstances and experiences of loss that transformative discoveries are
made, often provoking a change in mindset and significantly impacting upon a person or a whole.
Whilst these challenges can be negative, confronting circumstances can also lead to a positive
transformation. William Shakespeare s play The Tempest (1610) and Nando Parado s autobiographical
recount Miracle in the Andes (2006) explore the notion of transformative discovery particularly as a
result of difficult and confronting circumstances, which prompt us to asses both our identity and the
power of love and forgiveness to reshape our mindset. Loss can be one of the most provoking of
challenges, acting as a catalyst for a significant shift in perspective, often negatively. In the Tempest,
Alonso in particularly experiences a negative change in attitude after realising the nature of his new
situation. His naivety and hopeful attitude at the beginning of the play is emphasised, Good boatswain,
have care. Where s the master? Play the men, but as the survivors situation becomes more dire, this
attitude begins to pessimistically evolve. His constant ordering and questioning poses a dramatic irony
to the audience when finally he is confronted with the discovery of his son s disappearance, no, no he
s gone, with the repetitive cliché of denial after loss serving as a significant discovery, completely
transforming Alonso s attitude from naive and pompous to deflated and desperate,

Muslims and The Holy Qur an
There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on
English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of
Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss
euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions
for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the
previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal
equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a
closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the
Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study
stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions
into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and
lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use
other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation
and paraphrase. Outline of the study
The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the
study and present various definitions of

1960 s Cultural Changes
During the 1960 s, music began to change. From President Kennedy s assassination, to the Vietnam
War, and then the Civil Rights movement, these events all had an effect on the mood of American s
and music was used to reflect this change. The Vietnam War began almost unnoticed by Americans
but became a dominating fact of American politics by the mid 1960 s and the American views of the
war were very diverse(Johnson, 2012, pg. 273). Protest music was used to address the Vietnam War,
from the lack of progress being made to the amount of troops being sent to Vietnam. This created the
Anti War movement and protest music became the soundtrack. In a survey performed by Rolling

Critical Analysis Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud Incredibly Close is a 2005 book by Jonathan Safran Foer about a young boy dealing
with the death of his father in the attacks on September 11, 2001. A critical analysis of the firebombing
of Dresden and how it connects and grows the main themes of the novel will be stated forthwith.
Oskar Schell was nine years old when his father was tragically taken from him by two jetliners flown
by terrorists. This was especially unfortunate for him as his father seemed to be the only person that
fully understood how Oskar s Aspergers affected him and could use that to keep Oskar in a state of
growth. Thomas Schell, Oskar s father, would assign Oskar reconnaissance missions in which the
young boy had to converse with strangers and do other tasks in order to grow his social skills and get
him out of his shell. This was the point at which the class noticed that Oskar s father seemed to be
such a great father to make up for the fact that his own father was absent for his entire life. This moves
onto the analysis of Thomas Schell Sr. Thomas Schell Sr. lived in Dresden Germany as a child and
was raised there. As a young boy, Thomas was full of hope, love, and emotion. Today, the city of
Dresden represents a devastation incendiary bombing by the allies near the end of the second world
war. Thomas lived through this bombing and lost the love of his life as well as his unborn child. The
young man was hunkering down in a cellar attempting to shelter from the burning when he realized
that Anna, his lover, was missing. Insisting on going back out despite his parent s wishes, Thomas
went headstrong into the inferno. After the bombing, Dresden was encompassed by a firestorm
blowing air heated to hundreds of degrees fahrenheit at hurricane speeds. This brings to mind the
devastating dust cloud that touched down in NYC after the WTC attacks. This moves onto the next
chronological analysis. There are quite a few striking similarities in Oskar s and Thomas situation and
this helps to strengthen and connect Foer s novel. Oskar and Thomas both experienced extreme loss at
a relatively young age. Thomas went through the death of his lover and unborn child, while Oskar
experienced the death of the only man

Dna Protein Protein Structure
DNA Polymerase
Proteins are arguably the most structurally and functionally complex structures known to man.
Through evolution spanning billions of years, these macromolecules have been perfected to perform
many functions necessary for life. Proteins contain four distinct levels of structure and are composed
of simple organic compounds known as amino acids. (Alberts, Bruce et al 2000) Amino acids are
joined together by peptide bonds made during protein biosynthesis, and the linked amino acid chain is
known as a polypeptide chain. DNA determines the amino acid sequence and the sequence is what
determines the primary level of protein structure. This level of structure determines the protein s
shape, which affects the assembly and function of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This level is formed whenever multiple polypeptide chains come together to design a single protein.
Some proteins are only composed of one single polypeptide chain, and therefore, do not have a
quaternary level of structure. The four various levels of protein structure give a small insight into how
structurally complicated proteins really are. Functionally, proteins are just as diverse, if not more, as
they are structurally. They are responsible for providing structural support of the cell, aiding
biochemical reactions, assisting the plasma membrane, and a multitude of other functions. One
important aspect of proteins are enzymes, which is a type of protein that catalyzes biochemical
reactions in the cell. A clear majority of enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes. It is
safe to say, that without proteins, life would not be possible.
DNA polymerase is an extremely vital protein, located in all cells, that is capable of synthesizing DNA
from nucleotides. (Bebenek, Katarzyna et al 2004) It is also classified as an enzyme, which means it
acts as a catalyst to kick start a biochemical reaction in the cell. While the function of this protein may
sound simple, it is anything but. This protein not only copies the DNA, but also proofreads and
corrects any mistakes in the DNA sequence. With the hefty responsibility of replicating DNA and
passing genetic information from generation to generation, DNA polymerase is one of the most
significant enzymes

Viability of Non-Nuclear Deterrence Strategies
Near the end of World War II, the United States (U.S.) atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
demonstrated that nuclear weapons can technically be used as a strategic imperative [1]. Nuclear
capability, thereafter, was much sought after by states as the basis for deterrence and thus fuelled the
nuclear arms race during the Cold War, especially between the U.S. and the Soviet Union [2].
However, several literatures [3] [4] [5] have debated that nuclear deterrence and utilisation of nuclear
weapons are morally and ethically unacceptable. Several others [6] [7] argued that nuclear capability
is not the be all and end all of deterrence. In addition, the existence of Nuclear Non proliferation
Treaty (NPT) measures, theoretically, makes it difficult for non nuclear states to acquire the
capabilities to produce nuclear weapons and to do so without being detected [8]. Hence, this essay
seeks to examine the viability of non nuclear deterrence strategies, particularly to address the question
Who are the potential adversaries of non nuclear states and what are the deterrence strategies that are
viable?
Setting the Context
The potential adversaries that non nuclear states may face will be generalised into three types for the
purpose of this discussion. These are nuclear state actors, non nuclear state actors, and non state actors
(NSAs). Nuclear state actors includes the five nuclear weapon states under the NPT, as well as the
three non NPT and one undeclared nuclear powers [9].

Engineering Ethics Of The Engineering Profession
Engineering is a pylon of human development and technology, having a significant impact on people s
daily lives. Engineering has improved humanity in every aspect (e.g. transportation, communication,
medicine) and it has the potential to overcome the challenges that mankind still faces. However,
engineers have responsibility for their actions and they must learn to follow a set of ethical principles
relating to their work. All of which have to be followed to the letter otherwise there can be severe
consequences. Ethics is the study of the characteristics of morals and involves the moral choices made
by individuals as they interact with other persons. Engineers need to be aware of ethics as they make
choices during their professional practice of engineering. Engineering ethics will be defined as the
rules and standards governing the conduct of engineers in their roles as professionals. Several cases
have led to an awareness of the importance of ethics within the engineering profession as engineers
realize how their technical work has far reaching impacts on society. The work of engineers can affect
public health and safety and can influence business practices and even politics. (Fledderman,2004)

Out of all sports, football seems to be the one that builds the most vigorous bonds between its
teammates. The physical demands during a game and practice force each player to rely on one another
on the field. Think about the relationship between each offensive lineman. They all have to visually
examine each others backs while bulwarking their own. Even more vigorous than that is the
relationship between a quarterback and his offensive teammates. As mentioned afore, the offensive
line is there to forfend the quarterback. The quarterback needs to trust them to stop any defensive
player from getting to him, in order for him to do his job. Withal, the quarterback must have faith in
not only his o line, but his wide receivers and his running backs as well. He has to trust them that they

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it
to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family.
However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the

darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne
symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first
sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate
their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like

employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance

Pop Art And The Art
Throughout the vast history of art, there have been many art movements that stand out and
revolutionize the art world. However, one movement stands out in particular and it is known as Pop
Art. Pop Art was invented by a few younger artists by the name of Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg,
and Roy Lichtenstein. It was brought about in the 1960s and it helped define a new form of American
Realism. Its origin was sort of a lash out against Abstract Expressionism, which was a style of
painting. The point of pop art was to represent life as most Americans lived it. It pointed out the
simple things that Americans find themselves caught up in in everyday life. Pop Art represented a
world focused around popular culture, which is basically what is hot in America at the time. Pop Art
brought about the reality that America revolved around the culture of things like Wall Street Finance
and Madison Avenue Advertising. It sort of presented the thought that maybe Americans weren t so
hard to get through to or to understand. Pop Art revealed the pop culture in America and made
beautiful art in return. It helped turn the page in the art world that was leaving traditional media, like
painting, in the wind.
Although there were many great artists to work with Pop Art like Claes Oldenburg and Roy
Lichtenstein, one that particularly stands out is Andy Warhol. Born in August of 1928 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, Warhol was not among the most fortunate. Throughout his young life, Andy Warhol

Taxes In The United States
Taxes have been around throughout the world since the idea of civilization came to being and was
implemented. The earliest forms of taxations were implemented around 4500 years ago in
Mesopotamia where people used to pay taxes by use of the commonly accepted currency then which
was livestock. These kinds of taxes were paid throughout the year to finance the activities of the
governing sectors. Looking at the ancient world, there are taxes such as the estate taxes and the death
taxes. An example of a country that had death taxes was Egypt which upon the death of an individual
the people left behind who would get the property the deceased had were to pay a ten per cent tax on
the property they were to inherit. Over the years, the way we pay taxes ... Show more content on

Initially, there were no income taxes unlike today. The government survived on the tariffs as the only
source of revenue to conduct their functions with. During those times, the tariffs were enough to
effectively run the government. In the times of emergencies especially during wars when the
government require some extra funds to support its activities, new taxes would be introduced. Once
the wars were over and the extra revenue was not needed any more, the taxes introduced would be
banned and the revenue would resume it source from the tariffs. It is worth noting that the people
living during this time were not as large in numbers as we are today, therefore the provisions of
services to them did not require a lot of money on the side of the government. The tariffs aimed at not
only running the federal government but also to act as a protective barrier to the domestic industries in
the United States of America. There was the payment of income tax that would be collected by the
agents of the treasury before the imported goods could land the country. Before the 20th century, there
was great debate where the Democrats wanted a tariff that would not be very high and one that would
sustain the federal government. On the other hand the Republicans were in favour of higher tariffs that
would not only ensure the sustainability of the federal government but also to be an encouragement to
the industrial workers as well as the American industry (Seligman Edwin

Information And Technology Literacy Paper
Information and Technology Literacy Paper
In the modern day technology and information are developing, changing, and is exchanged at a rapid
pace. With so much information out there and a constantly evolving landscape of technology it is
important to know how to find, use and validate new information and technology.
Information literacy is a set of abilities that allow someone to understand when where there is a need
for information. (Information Literacy: Home. (n.d.)., 2015)This also includes the ability to discover
and asses the quality of the information that was found. In addition this information must be used in
successful manner.
Technology literacy is an ability set of an individual to use technology is the ability of a person
working independently and with others to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technological
tools to access, manage, evaluate, create and communicate information. (Definition of Technology
Literacy.,2005)
Information literacy is knowing when you need to find information and then being able to gauge and
verify its quality. An example would be to look up information on a topic you don t know anything
about. Technology literacy is using technology, such as a computer or. Technology literacy is the

Technology literacy works at gathering information, sorting it and finding correlations. Information
literacy then helps to spread new ideas and new findings that the data has shown. A good example is
CPR. As people practiced CPR data was collected on how successful it was, what the problems were
and what provided better success. That data was collected with computer and analyzed. Afterward
some changes were made to how CPR should be done for the best performance. That data was then
published. People looking up the new changes could then find and learn the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Volkswagen
Over 17 million cars and trucks are sold around the world every year. Amongst the plethora of car
companies aiming to convince shoppers that their car is paramount, marketing teams ought to go the
extra mile. By developing a persuading advertisement, companies are more likely to sell their
products. On February 6, 2011, Volkswagen aired a Superbowl commercial for the first time in over
ten years. This commercial would be one that awakens the inner child of millions. By employing
pathos, ethos, and logos rhetoric techniques, Volkswagen is able to appeal to consumers in order to
sell their new car.
In the commercial, a young boy dressed as Darth Vader from the Star Wars films struggles to use the
force on objects throughout his house. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By displaying the innocence of the boy, it might help families who watch the commercial relate to
their own children. Secondly, we see the mother in the commercial who appears slightly irritated with
her son since he s been trying all day. This character choice might help other parents relate to a
situation where they ve gotten annoyed when their child gets too involved with pretending to do
something. Finally, we see the father at the end of the commercial who wants to assist his son when
pretending to be Darth Vader. By showing a father who helps his son believe he was successful with
using the force, it demonstrates a loving and caring relationship. This might make fathers who watch
the commercial want to go out and buy the car to be that loving and caring dad. The advertisement s
stylistic choice is effective due to how they tell a story and use supportive rhetorical techniques. First,
Volkswagen does this by pulling people in with the rhetorical technique of pathos. By creating a
scenario within the advertisement which consumers can relate to, the viewer tends to feel a sense of
familiarity and emotional attachment. The scene in the commercial that acts as the strong emotional
trigger is the final scene where the young boy uses the force on the car. Whether it s a parent watching
the commercial or someone thinking back to their own childhood, there s a way they can relate to it.
For parent s watching the commercial, they might imagine a

Essay On Diabetes
There is a direct association between hyperglycemia and physiological and behavioral responses.
During hyperglycemia, the brain recognizes it and sends a message through nerve impulses to
pancreas and other organs to decrease its effect (Baynes, 2015). The autoimmune destruction of
pancreatic β cells, leads to a deficiency of insulin secretion which results in the metabolic
derangements associated with T1DM. Normally, hyperglycemia leads to reduced glucagon secretion;
however, in patients with T1DM, glucagon secretion is not suppressed by hyperglycemia (Holt, 2004).
The resultant inappropriately elevated glucagon levels exacerbate the metabolic defects due to insulin
deficiency. In type 2 diabetes these mechanisms break down, with the ... Show more content on

This type1 diabetes is a relatively homogeneous disease in which the insulin secretion of beta cells in
the pancreas starts to decline and eventually ceases totally.
3.4.2. Type 2 diabetes: Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and/or abnormal insulin
secretion (Alberti, 1998). About 90% of all diabetes cases account for type2 (Zimmet, 2001). The
inability of the pancreas to produce insulin or production of insufficient insulin, or the insulin itself is
inactive in the case of type2 diabetes (Naemiratch, 2007). In the case of type 2 diabetes, the blood
sugar is controlled either through diet, with oral hypoglycemic drugs or in extreme cases with
exogenous insulin (Inzicchi, 2002; Gannon, 2006). Individuals with type 2 diabetes mostly exhibit
intra abdominal (visceral) obesity. The presence of hypertension and dyslipidemia (high triglyceride
and low HDL cholesterol levels; postprandial hyperlipidemia) are also observed in these individuals.
Type2 diabetes is the most common form and is highly associated with a family history of diabetes,
older age, obesity and lack of exercise. This type of diabetes is more common in women, especially
women with a history of gestational diabetes, and in Blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans
(Baynes, 2015).
3.4.3. Other specific type of diabetes: Diabetes may also result from other forms. Diabetes can be seen
in individuals suffering or having suffered from certain

Caught In The Crossfire Sociology
1. I can say it is a huge difference between being victimized by someone known to the victim vs. a
stranger. If it is you are victimized by an individual you personally know, it is possible that you might
come in contact with that individual again and you might question yourself with the intent of the
abuse. You may conceptualize why would they subject you to that type of abuse or what did you do to
deserve the physical abuse. In addition, it might be somewhat challenging to report the individual for
the reason that you may perhaps consider that an individual is a decent person after all. The victim
will retract or just not report the abuse so they will begin to feel sympathetic for the individual as to
make excuses for them by stating they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if the judge would look at the wishes of an ex wife or daughter, it would also cause someone
to leave the room unhappy if it comes to worst (Ng, 2013). People would question the judge ruling, if
the judge would give a suspect slap on the wrist, or maximum sentencing for a lesser crime, because
of the emotional feelings of others.
3.3 A judge should never take into consideration of the victim or family member requests to give a
harsher or lesser sentencing. As I said before the sentencing of a suspect shouldn t be just based off of
granting a request. If the judge were to consider the family s request, though, the fact that it was
Vincent s ex wife and not his current wife would have made a difference because she could have bad
feelings for him (Ng, 2013).
4. I believe that it had detrimental effects on the offender s family. First of all, the case was all over the
media showing the offender in a negative way, which could cause a lot of stress for the family
members. Everyone felt remorseful for the victim so it could be a tough time for the offender s family.
You can tell that it was a tough time because Matthew Cordle made a video expressing how sorry he
was and how he wished he never killed their family member (Ng,

Mindfulness Reflection Paper
I have a somewhat regular, yet sincere contemplative mindfulness practice that helps me understand
why I experience life the way I do both internally and externally. I get to see my own urges, those I m
not really aware of such as the urge to multi task. Practicing mindfulness meditation and other
mindfulness practices I learned to become in touch with my own urges and to control them through
awareness and self discipline. So, here are a few reflections for your coffee time. As you sip on your
deliciously made aromatic coffee, tea or hot cocoa accept these thoughts for your reflection.
Finally, at the 3rd mindfulness class I took with Daniel, I decided to do the homework he had
suggested to everyone, which was to do one thing we do routinely during the day, mindfully. That is to
be with the experience of it and fully giving it our undivided attention. For example, if we chose
brushing our teeth, he said, to brush slowly, feel every stroke as the brush moved around the mouth,
what it felt like, the taste of the tooth paste, what the mind was doing; observe everything about that
experience, while also focusing on our breath. This was our mindfulness exercise, which to me didn t
sound too exciting. It took a lot of self discipline to be able to stay with an activity and not wonder off
in the mind. So,I never did the tooth brush exercise.
Until that final day of having burnt my 967th pita bread and screamed to myself, this is so annoying. It
s not acceptable anymore!

Shaun In The Film This Is England
In the film This is England the little main protagonist, Shaun, has experience vast changes over the
course of the movie. In the beginning, Shaun appears to be a sweet little boy that had a hard time
fitting in at his school and for this reason he was bullied from older boys. Like most 11 year old kids
who wore jumpers with animals on, I got bullied by the older kids at school. So I looked for my own
tribe to join. (Meadows, 2007) In fact, Shaun meets Woody who introduced him to his gang and gains
new friends. Referring back to Meadows words, Shaun just wanted to be part of something and have a
group of friends to hang out with, and his transformation into a skinhead made this possible. Shane
Meadows goes in further details in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the middle of the movie, a new character joins the narration, an ex convict man called
Combo. Combo promoted to stand up for English s roots and for him jobs are taken away from
Englishman and given to immigrants who don t deserve them. So he established a racist and
aggressive skinhead gang that caused a lot of problems in the town. Shaun decides to join Combo s
gang because he wanted to make his father proud that was killed in the Flanklands war, and this can be
deduced by Combo when he said: and you want your dad s life to mean something. Don t you...
Although, I don t think that making his father proud was the only reason. In fact, in Shaun s life there
has been a lack of a father figure, which he suffered from, and so when he meets Combo, and he tells
him that he is going to take care of him, Shaun decided to take him as a role model to follow. As a
result Combo becomes the father figure in his life and decided to follow his nationalism idea. Combo
taught Shaun to be violent and racist against non English people because according to Combo they
were inferior and bad for the community. Furthermore, Shaun with Combo s gang participates to a
meeting hosted by right winged National Front, which actively promoted ethnic

Catcher In The Rye Alienation
No one likes being alienated, feeling alone, nor isolated from the outside world, yet so many people
are. At every glance someone takes, they will always find someone with first hand experience of
feeling left out from society due to events in their life, their own cause to leave themselves out, or
society alienating them. This is important to understand because there are so many people alienated
without any knowledge on why it is happening to them nor how it will affect them in the long run.
Even as much as people in real life have to deal with alienation so do the characters in J.D Salinger
remarkably told novel, the Catcher in the Rye. The Catcher in the Rye illustrates characters with a first
hand experience of alienation and the affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that would give him alcoholic drinks. After being left alone at the Wicked Bar, Holden sat at...[the] bar

drinking until his gut forces him to leave. Being alienated, an individual will try to find ways of
coping with it even if it is not the correct way. In another quote given from, Growing Up Lonely:
Examining Teen Alienation by Linda Lyons, she recorded an experiment to see the percentages of
actions taken by people who struggle with alienation. The data indicates how people who are alienated

Cultural Groups In The Algonquin People
The Algonquin people, Jesuit missionaries, and French laborers are three separate cultural groups that
are important to understand in the context of Native American and French peoples interactions. Each
group plays a significant role in the history of early French exploration and colonies in North America.
When focusing on each group, it is important to understand how each cultural group is portrayed, and
who is portraying them. The better we can understand these interactions the more we can learn from
our past. Defining each cultural group itself is complex. There were separate groups both within
Native Americans and the French people. Identifying these groups, who belongs to them and who
doesn t, is not always black and white and sometimes gray areas can occur. Distinguishing Algonquin
people from other Native Americans is an easy task. It can be done by looking at the area in which
they live, who they are allies with, and who they trade with. Typically, Algonquin people lived in the
New England area, they were allies with local native tribes that were regularly fighting the Iroquois
people, and they tended to trade and work with French colonists. They are usually described as
savages, and portrayed as uncivilized people that are extremely strong. Father Paul Le Jeune, a Jesuit
living in French North America, describes them, They are tall, erect, strong, well proportioned, agile;
and there is nothing effeminate in their appearance (Paul Le Jeune, America Firsthand, p.

Edelman Leave No Child Behind Summary
People have different interpretations of what success may mean to them. In the article, Leave No
Child Behind by Marian Wright Edelman, the author explains many lessons on the steps to become
successful. According to some, success is measured by social status and wealth. I agree with Edelman
s lessons that there is no free lunch, we should not be afraid of taking risks or being criticized, and we
should never think that life is not worth living.
I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. I notice there is nothing given to us without a price tag
on it. One time I remembered when I really wanted the new Barney rolling backpack. I told my
mother I wanted it. She told me that I would have to work for it, or else I would not receive it. There I
was, a little 8 year old girl, cleaning around the entire house. Edelman says, Don t feel entitled to
anything you don t sweat and struggle for. I agree with Edelman that if we do not put hard work and
sweat into wanting what we want, then we will not achieve it. In a related incident, which I ... Show

Taking risks will enhance what we have in life, it will make us grow as a person. By being a young
college student, I am drawn to take risks every day. One time I felt verbose choosing either to further
my education, or to work. I choose my education over wealth, because I knew there is always going to
be another opportunity for me getting a career. Edelman says, Be willing to stand up for something
that matters. I agree that if we do not speak up for ourselves no success will be offered. In a related
experience, one time I had a decision between taking an amazing opportunity to move to Washington,
or just stay home. I chose to leave because I thought moving and becoming independent would help
me become successful. Success to me is to determine the amount of happiness one feels. In addition to

A Streetcar Named Desire Critical Analysis
A Streetcar Named Desire is a playwright about a woman named Blanche DuBois who goes and visits
her sister Stella and her sister s husband Stanley. She tells them she is just there on vacation, but in
reality has lost the family mansion, her job, and a place in the town she lived in. Ms. DuBois lost her
job and was kicked out of her town due to the fact that she was caught sleeping with a seventeen year
old that she was teaching. She lies to her sister and convinces her that she is just visiting and will
eventually go back home. Stanley catches on to her lies and calls her out on them and in scene eleven
they decide to put her in a mental hospital by convincing her she is going on vacation. Ms. DuBois
begins to ramble about her death because she believes she will die from eating unwashed grapes. She
says her death will happen on a ship and her body will be buried at sea sewn up in a clean white sack
and dropped overboard...into an ocean as blue as my first lover s eyes (1174). Ms. DuBois seems to
have rehearsed her soliloquy about her death so that, when she said it aloud everyone would
understand that she was at peace with the fact that she would soon die also, the meaning of the
unwashed grape, the white sack, and the blue ocean. Blanche DuBois delusions accompanied by her
willingness to meet death at peace, have disabled her conscious state of thinking and caused her to
rehearse the soliloquy multiple times as a ritual. She asks about the grape being washed before

Marijuana Persuasive Speech
NATURAL IS THE WAY, SYNTHETIC YOU CAN T STAY!
Drugs are prevalent in many ways, there s a clear majority of different kinds that are created to be both
bought and sold from country to country across the nation, but when it comes to marijuana there is no
comparison natural weed is the GO , synthetic is a NO . This will become clear when considering the
legalities, manufacturing, health benefits/risks, cost, and versatility, natural marijuana is the top choice
compared to the spurious synthetic shit.
Legalities is an essential beginning when comparing these two types of marijuana, though both natural
and synthetic are currently illegal, natural marijuana is being examine and anticipated to be made
legal. Over many years marijuana has been sold, distributed, manufactured, possessed and used
illegally in all to most countries across the world, including Australia. However, this past decade
manufacturers have tried to outsmart Australia s cannabis laws by producing a legal chemical version
called; synthetic marijuana, which came to a bitter ending when effects deemed too dangerous.

so if you re lucky enough to find a good dealer, you can buy a gram and a half of weed for $25. 2.8
grams to 3.5 grams will normally cost around $50, $80 $100 for a quarter 7 grams and $160 and above
for half an ounce 14 gram, but the price ranges will still vary according to the dealer and its quality.

  • 2. An Essay On The First Principles Of Government Essay The Alabama Senate recently voted in favor of Senate Bill 193, allowing Briarwood Presbyterian Church to create its own police force (Blumberg). Briarwood Presbyterian now has the right to appoint and employ one or more persons to act as police officers to protect the safety and integrity of the church and its ministries (LegiScan). The protesters of the Bill see it as a violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which states the government may not pass any laws respecting any establishment of religion , including favoring one religion or disallowing the free practice of religion (Carlson). Supporters of the Bill say that prohibiting the creation of their police force prevents the safe practice of their religion, also a violation of the First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Priestley explicitly argued for separation of Church and State in his An Essay on the First Principles of Government . In Priestley s opinion, All the civil societies we enter into this life will be dissolved by death. , meaning that when we die, only allegiance to God matters (An Essay on the First Principles of Government, pg. 194). Priestley holds a belief which puts religion above government. On the issue of the creation of a Briarwood Church Police Force, Priestley would likely be in support of it. The potential problem with the Briarwood Police is that they could overstep their authority and create religious violence. Priestley believes that religion is inherently moral and good, meaning that the Church officers will be moral and act appropriately. Priestley would conclude that disallowing the creation of this police force would leave Briarwood vulnerable to immoral, non religious people who could cause them harm. The main weakness to this claim is that Briarwood has not experienced any such threats of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kristallnacht The Night of Shimmering Glass Kristallnacht, Night of Crystal, was a turning point between Germany and the rest of the world. On November 9th, 1938, an uprising against the Jewish residents of Germany and Austria occurred. This attack against the Jewish was referred to as a pogrom. Kristallnacht was the first marked nationwide action against religion. The Nazi regime and their wish to implement Nuremberg s laws helped push start the process of degrading Jews to an inferior level in life by giving reason to start the riot. The accumulation of events and new laws leading to Kristallnacht forced thousands of Jews to be stuck on the border lines of Poland and Germany, thus setting the stage for Germany s justification for the genocide yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1938 March 31 The Polish Senate passes he Expatriots Law, canceling citizenship for Polish Jews living outside the country, unless their passports are checked and stamped by Polish consular officials by the end of October. (7) In other words, if Polish citizens living abroad failed to meet with appropriate officials, they were no longer welcomed to the country. This conflict of German and Polish laws left thousands of Polish Jews on the border, between Poland and Germany, in the cold and with little or no provisions. This deportation also led to the next step accelerating the events of Kristallnacht. In the crowd of Polish Jews being held at the border, the Grynszpan family acted as the detonator to Kristallnacht. On November 3rd 1938, Herschel Grynszpan, at the time living in Paris, received a postcard from his family informing him of their conditions and asking for his help. (8) Angered and annoyed by the situation and how it was being handled by both the Germans and the Polish, on November 7th Grynszpan walked into the German Embassy in Paris and fatally wounded a German official named Ernst vom Rath. On November 8th, following the murder of Ernst vom Rath, attacks and destructions of Jewish property already had started. Vom Rath s death, declared on November 9th, gave the Nazi regime a perfect reason to organize a pogrom. On November 9th and 10th, 1938 the Nazi s staged a monstrous anti Jewish ... • 4. Interpreting the Handmaid s Tale Interpreting The Handmaid s Tale The Handmaid s Tale is distinguished by its various narrative and structural divisions. It contains four different levels of narrative time: the pre Revolution past, the time of the Revolution itself, the Gileadean period, and the post Gileadean period (LeBihan 100). In addition, the novel is divided into two frames, both with a first person narrative. Offred s narrative makes up the first frame, while the second frame is provided by the Historical Notes, a transcript of a lecture given by a Cambridge professor. The distinctions in structure and narrative perspective parallel the separation of Gileadean residents into different social roles. Offred s narrative is mainly of the Gileadean period, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the instance of women in the novel, this power comes from their indispensable role in the propagation of society. As Offred tells her story, she incorporates the stories of other women into her narrative. Her voice multiplies to become the voice of women rather than the voice of a single narrator (133). Thus, The Handmaid s Tale isn t just Offred s protest against her oppressive condition, but the collective protest of every woman. The Historical Notes comprising the second frame of the novel provide an important shift in perspective. The Notes are a transcript of a lecture given by the professor, Darcy Pieixoto, at an academic symposium on Gileadean Studies two hundred years after Gilead has become ancient history. The reader finds out that Pieixoto and his colleague are the ones responsible for the transcription and editing of the handmaid s story. (As it turns out, Offred s account is not actually written, but recorded onto cassette tapes). Pieixoto treats Offred s story in a scientific and detached manner. For him, her account is merely a resource for gaining knowledge of the former Gilead Republic. The shift from Offred as narrator to Pieixoto as narrator does two things. First, it signifies Offred s inability to make her voice heard; the voice of the male narrator in the last part of the novel threatens to drown out Offred s voice and the significance of her autobiography. Secondly, it leaves readers with the challenge of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Karl Popper And The Scientific Method Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th Century. He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in which one uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm that law through more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified (Popper 14). Inductivism relies on the process of inductive reasoning which is a logical process in which multiple premises, all thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are combined to obtain a conclusion and in many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory called empirical falsification which holds that a theory can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through experimentation. In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including the topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information) or tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory, through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through counterexamples (Oxford). Popper opines that a significant problem with the scientific method is that scientists get so caught up in evidence that supports a specific conjecture that they either 1) fail to consider ... • 8. The Importance Of Transformative Discovery In William... It is through challenging circumstances and experiences of loss that transformative discoveries are made, often provoking a change in mindset and significantly impacting upon a person or a whole. Whilst these challenges can be negative, confronting circumstances can also lead to a positive transformation. William Shakespeare s play The Tempest (1610) and Nando Parado s autobiographical recount Miracle in the Andes (2006) explore the notion of transformative discovery particularly as a result of difficult and confronting circumstances, which prompt us to asses both our identity and the power of love and forgiveness to reshape our mindset. Loss can be one of the most provoking of challenges, acting as a catalyst for a significant shift in perspective, often negatively. In the Tempest, Alonso in particularly experiences a negative change in attitude after realising the nature of his new situation. His naivety and hopeful attitude at the beginning of the play is emphasised, Good boatswain, have care. Where s the master? Play the men, but as the survivors situation becomes more dire, this attitude begins to pessimistically evolve. His constant ordering and questioning poses a dramatic irony to the audience when finally he is confronted with the discovery of his son s disappearance, no, no he s gone, with the repetitive cliché of denial after loss serving as a significant discovery, completely transforming Alonso s attitude from naive and pompous to deflated and desperate, ... • 9. Muslims and The Holy Qur an There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation and paraphrase. Outline of the study The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the study and present various definitions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From President Kennedy s assassination, to the Vietnam War, and then the Civil Rights movement, these events all had an effect on the mood of American s and music was used to reflect this change. The Vietnam War began almost unnoticed by Americans but became a dominating fact of American politics by the mid 1960 s and the American views of the war were very diverse(Johnson, 2012, pg. 273). Protest music was used to address the Vietnam War, from the lack of progress being made to the amount of troops being sent to Vietnam. This created the Anti War movement and protest music became the soundtrack. In a survey performed by Rolling Stone, seventy percent of five star albums produced were released between the Gulf of Tonkin incident and and the American withdrawal in 1973 (Anderson, 1986). Oskar Schell was nine years old when his father was tragically taken from him by two jetliners flown by terrorists. This was especially unfortunate for him as his father seemed to be the only person that fully understood how Oskar s Aspergers affected him and could use that to keep Oskar in a state of growth. Thomas Schell, Oskar s father, would assign Oskar reconnaissance missions in which the young boy had to converse with strangers and do other tasks in order to grow his social skills and get him out of his shell. This was the point at which the class noticed that Oskar s father seemed to be such a great father to make up for the fact that his own father was absent for his entire life. This moves onto the analysis of Thomas Schell Sr. Thomas Schell Sr. lived in Dresden Germany as a child and was raised there. As a young boy, Thomas was full of hope, love, and emotion. Today, the city of Dresden represents a devastation incendiary bombing by the allies near the end of the second world war. Thomas lived through this bombing and lost the love of his life as well as his unborn child. The young man was hunkering down in a cellar attempting to shelter from the burning when he realized that Anna, his lover, was missing. Insisting on going back out despite his parent s wishes, Thomas went headstrong into the inferno. After the bombing, Dresden was encompassed by a firestorm blowing air heated to hundreds of degrees fahrenheit at hurricane speeds. This brings to mind the devastating dust cloud that touched down in NYC after the WTC attacks. This moves onto the next chronological analysis. There are quite a few striking similarities in Oskar s and Thomas situation and this helps to strengthen and connect Foer s novel. Oskar and Thomas both experienced extreme loss at a relatively young age. Thomas went through the death of his lover and unborn child, while Oskar experienced the death of the only man ... Through evolution spanning billions of years, these macromolecules have been perfected to perform many functions necessary for life. Proteins contain four distinct levels of structure and are composed of simple organic compounds known as amino acids. (Alberts, Bruce et al 2000) Amino acids are joined together by peptide bonds made during protein biosynthesis, and the linked amino acid chain is known as a polypeptide chain. DNA determines the amino acid sequence and the sequence is what determines the primary level of protein structure. This level of structure determines the protein s shape, which affects the assembly and function of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This level is formed whenever multiple polypeptide chains come together to design a single protein. Some proteins are only composed of one single polypeptide chain, and therefore, do not have a quaternary level of structure. The four various levels of protein structure give a small insight into how structurally complicated proteins really are. Functionally, proteins are just as diverse, if not more, as they are structurally. They are responsible for providing structural support of the cell, aiding biochemical reactions, assisting the plasma membrane, and a multitude of other functions. One important aspect of proteins are enzymes, which is a type of protein that catalyzes biochemical reactions in the cell. A clear majority of enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes. It is safe to say, that without proteins, life would not be possible. DNA polymerase is an extremely vital protein, located in all cells, that is capable of synthesizing DNA from nucleotides. (Bebenek, Katarzyna et al 2004) It is also classified as an enzyme, which means it acts as a catalyst to kick start a biochemical reaction in the cell. While the function of this protein may sound simple, it is anything but. This protein not only copies the DNA, but also proofreads and corrects any mistakes in the DNA sequence. With the hefty responsibility of replicating DNA and passing genetic information from generation to generation, DNA polymerase is one of the most significant enzymes ... Viability of Non-Nuclear Deterrence Strategies Near the end of World War II, the United States (U.S.) atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki demonstrated that nuclear weapons can technically be used as a strategic imperative [1]. Nuclear capability, thereafter, was much sought after by states as the basis for deterrence and thus fuelled the nuclear arms race during the Cold War, especially between the U.S. and the Soviet Union [2]. However, several literatures [3] [4] [5] have debated that nuclear deterrence and utilisation of nuclear weapons are morally and ethically unacceptable. Several others [6] [7] argued that nuclear capability is not the be all and end all of deterrence. In addition, the existence of Nuclear Non proliferation Treaty (NPT) measures, theoretically, makes it difficult for non nuclear states to acquire the capabilities to produce nuclear weapons and to do so without being detected [8]. Hence, this essay seeks to examine the viability of non nuclear deterrence strategies, particularly to address the question Who are the potential adversaries of non nuclear states and what are the deterrence strategies that are viable? Setting the Context The potential adversaries that non nuclear states may face will be generalised into three types for the purpose of this discussion. These are nuclear state actors, non nuclear state actors, and non state actors (NSAs). Nuclear state actors includes the five nuclear weapon states under the NPT, as well as the three non NPT and one undeclared nuclear powers [9]. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Engineering has improved humanity in every aspect (e.g. transportation, communication, medicine) and it has the potential to overcome the challenges that mankind still faces. However, engineers have responsibility for their actions and they must learn to follow a set of ethical principles relating to their work. All of which have to be followed to the letter otherwise there can be severe consequences. Ethics is the study of the characteristics of morals and involves the moral choices made by individuals as they interact with other persons. Engineers need to be aware of ethics as they make choices during their professional practice of engineering. Engineering ethics will be defined as the rules and standards governing the conduct of engineers in their roles as professionals. Several cases have led to an awareness of the importance of ethics within the engineering profession as engineers realize how their technical work has far reaching impacts on society. The work of engineers can affect public health and safety and can influence business practices and even politics. The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. It was brought about in the 1960s and it helped define a new form of American Realism. Its origin was sort of a lash out against Abstract Expressionism, which was a style of painting. The point of pop art was to represent life as most Americans lived it. It pointed out the simple things that Americans find themselves caught up in in everyday life. Pop Art represented a world focused around popular culture, which is basically what is hot in America at the time. Pop Art brought about the reality that America revolved around the culture of things like Wall Street Finance and Madison Avenue Advertising. During hyperglycemia, the brain recognizes it and sends a message through nerve impulses to pancreas and other organs to decrease its effect (Baynes, 2015). Normally, hyperglycemia leads to reduced glucagon secretion; however, in patients with T1DM, glucagon secretion is not suppressed by hyperglycemia (Holt, 2004). When focusing on each group, it is important to understand how each cultural group is portrayed, and who is portraying them. The better we can understand these interactions the more we can learn from our past. Defining each cultural group itself is complex.
