What have you learnt from your
audience feedback?
Throughout the process of developing our trailer, I identified three
key stages where we listened to our audience in order to
appropriately progress our trailer. It was vital for us to listen to our
audience as they allowed us to understand what will entice the
viewers. It was crucial we aimed our audience feedback at potential
viewers of the film in order to gain the most influential insight on
what to improve.Which is why when gaining feedback throughout
production, most of our surveys and questions where aimed at late
teens, the age group we believe our film would mostly appeal to.We
believed if we listened carefully to what our audience had to say, we
would entice more potential viewers of our film as we are developing
what they want to see.
Stage 1 - Initial pitch feedback
After presenting our initial film pitch to a small group of our targeted
audience, this was the main trend of feedback we acquired.
“I like the storyline"
"Interesting narrative, would go and see it"
"Produce consistent rules of ghost's ability"
After interpreting the feedback we gained, it was clear from our initial
ideas that our narrative was the strongest point, and received the most
positive feedback after viewing our pitch.We took this feedback on and
decided when developing our rough cut and collecting our shots, we
would ensure our narrative was clear and represented the points our
audience initially liked.
Stage 2 - Rough Cut feedback
After presenting our rough cut to our audience, we designed
a short survey to understand our strengths and points to
improve.
We were pleased, after developing the narrative from our
initial feedback, that the narrative was clear to our audience.
Over ‘90%’ of our audience said the narrative of the film was
clear from the trailer, plus the voiceover was picked out as
the strongest feature of our trailer as it helped make the
narrative clearer. This shows how the initial audience
feedback helped us to develop our trailer in order to attract
our targeted audience.
We learnt from our audience, that the main point to improve on our rough cut was
the music and sound.The music was undeveloped and foley was very minimal,
which made the trailer a lot less appealing to the audience.This was shown as only
53% of the viewers enjoyed the trailer, allowing us to understand development was
needed in order to attract the audience to go and watch the film. Music and sound
effects were rated as the worst features of our rough cut, therefore clearly
identifying the key points to develop.
We aimed to develop the soundtrack through the use of Garage Band.This allowed
us to easily develop our own soundtrack which we believed was most appropriate
for our trailer and genre, as well as a soundtrack that would appeal and attract the
audience. Secondly we developed the poorly rated sound effects by sourcing
effective foley from the website ‘www.freesound.org’.This helped the trailer feel
more realistic and believable, allowing the audience to relate to the film, and
therefore make them want to see it.
Stage 3 - Final cut feedback
These were the comments we received on our final trailer
We were pleased to receive a lot of positive feedback on our trailer,
particularly on the areas we selected to develop after the audience gave us
areas to improve.The most major improvement required to make our trailer
appeal to our target audience, was the music. After viewing the final cut, we
received a lot of positive feedback on the music, which showed our
development of the trailer was effective, and the audience were keen to go
and see the film.Without the audience feedback, we would have been
unable to understand the key areas that needed development, in order to
please the viewers and attract our targeted audience.

Stage 1 - Initial pitch feedback After presenting our initial film pitch to a small group of our targeted audience, this was the main trend of feedback we acquired. “I like the storyline" "Interesting narrative, would go and see it" "Produce consistent rules of ghost's ability" After interpreting the feedback we gained, it was clear from our initial ideas that our narrative was the strongest point, and received the most positive feedback after viewing our pitch.We took this feedback on and decided when developing our rough cut and collecting our shots, we would ensure our narrative was clear and represented the points our audience initially liked.
  • 4. Stage 2 - Rough Cut feedback After presenting our rough cut to our audience, we designed a short survey to understand our strengths and points to improve. We were pleased, after developing the narrative from our initial feedback, that the narrative was clear to our audience. Over ‘90%’ of our audience said the narrative of the film was clear from the trailer, plus the voiceover was picked out as the strongest feature of our trailer as it helped make the narrative clearer. This shows how the initial audience feedback helped us to develop our trailer in order to attract our targeted audience.

We learnt from our audience, that the main point to improve on our rough cut was the music and sound.The music was undeveloped and foley was very minimal, which made the trailer a lot less appealing to the audience.This was shown as only 53% of the viewers enjoyed the trailer, allowing us to understand development was needed in order to attract the audience to go and watch the film. Music and sound effects were rated as the worst features of our rough cut, therefore clearly identifying the key points to develop. We aimed to develop the soundtrack through the use of Garage Band.This allowed us to easily develop our own soundtrack which we believed was most appropriate for our trailer and genre, as well as a soundtrack that would appeal and attract the audience. Secondly we developed the poorly rated sound effects by sourcing effective foley from the website ‘www.freesound.org’.This helped the trailer feel more realistic and believable, allowing the audience to relate to the film, and therefore make them want to see it.

We were pleased to receive a lot of positive feedback on our trailer, particularly on the areas we selected to develop after the audience gave us areas to improve.The most major improvement required to make our trailer appeal to our target audience, was the music. After viewing the final cut, we received a lot of positive feedback on the music, which showed our development of the trailer was effective, and the audience were keen to go and see the film.Without the audience feedback, we would have been unable to understand the key areas that needed development, in order to please the viewers and attract our targeted audience.
