The document summarizes audience feedback from focus groups on a music video and ancillary marketing materials. Key learnings included:
- The overlay of original footage with Breakfast at Tiffany's footage and the narrative structure were successes.
- Some lip syncing was out of time and one shot looked squeezed, providing opportunities for improvement.
- While not fully professional due to budget, the overall concept was well executed.
- Feedback on album art, back cover, and ad provided guidance on visual design, appropriate level of details, and need to promote on social media.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Why does the film industry spend so much time and money test screening films to invited audiences or finding out what audiences like through market research?
Who are your audience? Justify this with reference to your primary and secondary audience research.
At what stages did you ask your audience questions or get their feedback?
How did you get this feedback?
How did you use this feedback? Was it useful? Did you make any changes to your work because of it?
What does the final audience feedback suggest about the success of your marketing campaign?

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Audience feedback
After completing our music video, we asked 2 focus groups to give us
feedback regarding our main product. This involved them watching it
and answering a number of questions in order for us to get an overall
picture of what went well, and what we could have done better.
Focus group 1 Focus group 2
3. Reasons for specific focus groups
• Availability
• Gender mix
• Fit into our ideal target audience
• Both experienced and not experienced in media techniques
How we would edit our focus groups
If the opportunity arose to complete this whole task again, I would edit
our focus groups by asking a larger number of students. While some
variables, such as gender and target audience worked well, others
perhaps could be changed in order to receive a wider, or perhaps more
accurate, representation of how our music video was received.
4. In your opinion, what was the best part of the
music video? (Successes)
When this question was asked, we received a number of answers,
including:
• The overlay of our footage and the real Breakfast at Tiffany’s footage,
creating intertextuality between the two products
• The link between the overlaying footage and the narrative
• The narrative as a whole and how this deviated from the ‘cliché’
representations of relationships
• The structure of the narrative
• The use of the characters lip syncing the conversation in the lyrics
5. In your personal opinion, what could be changed
in the music video in order to improve it?
(Weaknesses)
We also wanted to find out what our target audience considered to be
the weaknesses of our products, in order to understand how it could be
further improved if we were to recreate the task:
• Some of the lip syncing was slightly out of time
• One of the overlay shots looked as though they were tightly squeezed
into frame – not natural
We were happy that this was the only constructive criticism that we
received in regards to our music video, as it has allowed us to
understand that for the most part, the task was executed well.
6. How much of a professional feel is created in the
video (how much does it remind you of other
music videos?)
When asking this question, we were aware that our music video was
perhaps not of the most professional quality. We understood that this
was due to uncontrollable reasons, such as budget and limited
equipment. The focus group that we asked this question to also
understood this, and commented that whereas it was not a completely
professional music video in terms of the way it looked, the principle
behind the video was executed well and certainly was not the most
amateur they had ever seen in regards to technique and narrative.
7. Audience feedback of ancillary tasks
After gathering audience feedback from our main product, we decided
it would be helpful to get feedback on our ancillary tasks as well, as this
would allow us to see where things were good, where improvements
would be made and whether they were fit for purpose.
8. Album cover feedback Featured image recognizable and
promotes the artist well
Good, professional album title
Some liked the beveled, carved effect of the
writing and how it looked a part of the wall
Others thought this effect was quite child-like
and that the positioning of the wording could be
reconsidered, for example perhaps not having
the whole title on one side
Iconography around the guitar seen as a good
effect, creates a brand for the artist
Good promotion of song/music video,
allows the audience to make links
between the products
‘Well thought through’ colour scheme, allows
the genre of acoustic/alternative rock to
come across
9. Back of album cover feedback Good use of bordering in order to further promote
Clever use of comments from
trusted and well-respected
sources, especially linking to the
specific genre
Good description for a debut album, allows the
audience to understand what they are buying
Good amount of material, with good use of
single at the top of the list to draw the
audience’s attentions in
The picture from the front is used, where it may
perhaps not be needed
A fairly ‘busy’ back album cover, runs the risk of
being too busy and looking unprofessional
10. Magazine advert feedback
Good use of album cover so that the audience can
recognise it
The mention of different platforms is good as it
allows the audience to consider the different ways
they will be able to purchase the product
Mentions technical terms disclaimer well
Doesn’t mention any social media platforms.
This could be an issue as in the modern day, this
is where a lot of promotion might happen and
without it, sales might decrease
Same picture is used – might be
slightly repetitive?
Good use of large date which promotes the
albums release. Could be improved by
including preorder date in smaller font
11. Altogether what I have learnt from my target
audience feedback regarding my 3 products
After completing the target audience feedback each step of the way for my 3 products, I feel I have learnt a lot
in terms of planning, construction, teamwork and the result our finished products. Some of the main things I
have learnt are:
• Successes such as the use of our footage overlaid with the Breakfast at Tiffany’s footage in the music video
was well received by our target audience, and our intentions were understood. This shows me that the
resemblance was made between out narrative and that of the film, which is almost used to promote one
another, as well as the ancillary texts.
• Weaknesses are definitely present in our video and could be improved on if the chance were available.
Improvements which could be made regard simple things, such as taking more care when filming (i.e.
framing certain shots), editing (i.e. matching up the lip syncing) and consideration of locations.
• When it comes to creating synergy and establishing a brand, there is such a thing as taking it too far, and this
may distract the audience. If I were to take part in this task again, I would consider this more and perhaps
take a more minimal approach to tasks such as the ancillary products in order to make them less busy and
more eye catching. However, continuity between font, colour etc is important to the target audience as they
feel they can establish a link between all of the products.
