WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
AGE Reader Profile – Looking back at my reader profile, their was a specific age of the reader and
that she studies at university. This suggests that my audience is directed towards a young adult
group and that it is relevant to their interests of going out and socialising, as well as focusing on
their individual music tastes.
Survey – There was a higher quantity of 18-24 year olds who
answered my survey and gave information later on about how they
see music magazines and the content included. I used this to make
sure my magazine would apply to the correct audience in my
development.
Interviews – After my survey, I purposely
interviewed people who were eighteen and
nineteen so that what they like, wear and music
taste is incorporated in to my magazine to appeal
to the correct audience.
How I incorporated the age social group
for my targeted audience in my final
product.
I used a young, trendy and
fashionable model to
represent a young age group
focus and appeal to this age. I
also used a live festival shot
to appeal to a young age
group because of the typical
stereotype of partying and
loud music.
In my article I used popular apps such
as ‘Spotify’ which is associated with
social media and therefore a
representation on the youth culture in
society.
GENDER
Reader profile – The reader
profile was focused on a female
rather than a male after looking
at my survey.
Survey – This represented a focus towards a female audience
although I did want to encourage a male audience as well. I think
that the higher percentage of females shows that I needed to
incorporate a higher focus towards the female gender.
How I incorporated the gender social group for
my target audience in my final product.
I used a female
model to allow
females to look
up to her as a
role model and
aspiration, but
also for the male
audience to
encourage the
‘Male Gaze’ for
them to have
interest in my
magazine which
displays a female
on the front
cover.
I mentioned
numerous
bands that
would appeal to
either gender
and would
entice their
focus in my
magazine.
I used bright colours to appeal to a
young audience but also to focus on the
genders. I used pink due to its
association to the female model and their
directed colours, but also to popular
bands like the 1975 that both genders
like. I used my house-style of yellow
throughout so it didn’t have a biased
effect on whether this the magazine is
orientated towards men or women. This
can be used in repeat productions with
associations to male double page
spreads and cover pages to appeal to
both genders.
CLASS Pricing – I think that pricing demonstrates the
type of class an audience is in and what is
considered reasonable. The price of £4 would
link to a middle/working class audience.
Pitch – My pitch says that it doesn’t
focus specifically on the social or income
backgrounds, and is open to any reader.
Reader Profile – Shows that this relates to a university student which would typically be shown as
middle class, and the clothes that she wears doesn’t represent upper class because of the stereotypical
appearance, and more towards middle class.
How I incorporated the class social group for my
target audience in my final product.
£3.50 pricing represents
affordability to the
middle class and isn’t
particularly classed as a
luxury product, which
makes it more reasonable
and demanded.
Style of the model is
unique, and similar to
Avery’s style from the
reader profile.
Represents middle
class and their looks
of society compared
to upper and working
class. The clothes may
be seen as expensive
yet affordable for the
middle class in order
to stay away from
social trends.
