This is the beginning of my plan for a music magazine I will be creating. I have looked at 'Q' magazines as an example and to get inspiration from.
In my plan so far I have included:
- an analysis of the aspects in one particular edition of Q
which includes the masthead, layout, quality, text style and
content, cover price, cover stories and exclusives
- an analysis of detonation and connotation within that
edition
- the media pack for Q magazines
I will continue with my plan, adding in:
- about the language (vocabulary, linguistics, poetic
features, sentence style and formal or informal)
- about the style and tone of my magazine
- how it will fit alongside existing publications
- who my target audience/market will be, creating a profile for
a potential reader
- how I will appeal to my target audience
- which magazines have the most relevance to my own
and talking about any aspects of their style that I could
borrow or use as inspiration
When my magazine is completed, it will consist of a front cover, contents page and a double page spread.
Ipc media
IPC media publishes magazines in many subgenres, such as Marie Claire focusing on health, beauty, and lifestyle for women. Their music magazine Uncut focuses on classic rock for an audience who grew up in the 1960s-1970s. NME focuses on indie, rock, punk and alternative music for a younger audience aged 16-24. IPC creates similar magazines based on subgenres like rock but targets different audiences. As IPC does not publish an R&B music magazine, they would be a good publisher for a new magazine in that subgenre or others like hip-hop, rap, and pop.
Top 3 music magazines in the uk

Photography equipment like a camera and studio produced relevant images with professional lighting and background. Photoshop edited images for a more professional look. InDesign, which I had not used before, allowed column layouts, feathering, and fonts to construct a realistic magazine.

- 2. Our mission aims to deliver and incorporate new music from the developing world of indie-alternative rock to any reader. Our purpose is to go against mainstream trends and to strive for new successes from engaging artists who deserve to be heard.
- 3. Offbeat is a new music magazine that directs its content towards the 18-25 market. Readers are likely to be both female and male without a specific focus on social or income backgrounds, to encourage appeal to any potential reader. As well as a mixed gender focus, Offbeat caters to readers who are young and revolves mainly around their social and music experiences. It will cover all aspects of the developing indie-alternative rock genre that has recently become widely popular. With the developing genre, indie-alternative rock has become more appreciated and so the content production of Offbeat will heavily focus on upcoming artists and current artist reviews (concert and album). The magazine aims to promote this unique music to the modern industry and so will be in circulation every month from the price of £3.99. It’s design will challenge typical magazine conventions and will mainly focus on a more simplistic, minimal style – using white space as it’s key feature. Images will be sparingly used where needed and there will be a greater emphasis on design and content whilst still keeping effective and impactful images. The double page spread will be an interview with Louisa Paige, along side a recent live performance article. This new artist in particular focuses on the development of modern music and will engage our readers. This artist represents new and unique music that would further encourage our aim of appealing to the 18-25 market.
