2. Technical and Aesthetic Qualities
I didn’t end up utilizing
the font in my plan,
but I love how it looks
good and I think it fits
the punk theme well.
This masthead is the
best example of this.
I used the
techniques I
analyzed in the
beginning of my
project
As you can see the art
in this magazine is very
similar to the edits I
have created, by
dramatically increasing
the contrast and
isolating the image I
have created the retro
effect shown here.
As you can see, the messy and
almost ‘hand written’ effect in
the font is quite common in old
punk magazines so I think my
work fits the theme shown here
well.
I’m happy with the literary
content and think it’s
appropriate for a punk fanzine.
It has covered the points I
wanted to include in my fanzine
initially and makes up for the
fact that I didn’t include enough
writing in the previous page.
3. The Masthead is written in an
Indie-punk ‘esque’ text which
appeals to a young audience due
to its connotations of
rebelliousness and diversity. I
think it really compliments the
main image and looks great.
I think the main image of
the front cover of this
magazine looks fantastic. I’m
happy with the edit I had
done and the layered 3D
technique I have used. This
edit also plays into star
image as the edit is only on
the main singer.
Despite liking the look of
this page, I think I
could’ve added some
literary content. I didn’t
manage my time too well
and didn’t end up getting
round to this.
I think this page is very
cool! I like the edits I have
done with the punk band
logos. I also think the grey
white and black tones fit
the theme of other punk
magazines.
I think this image looks
fantastic and really
plays into the punk
ideals of rebellion and
anarchy. The font I’ve
used throughout the
magazine work really
well here
I’m really happy with the
amount of writing I have
done and the specific
content. It was
appropriate content for a
punk fanzine.
4. I really like this double page spread and believe the
theme of punk iconography is consistent throughout.
The text I used for the header gives the feeling of
disarray and disorder which reflects the punk
anarchist values this will directly appeal to a punk
viewer who would like to see punk styles referenced
in a punk magazine. The dark color pallet I used also
reflects the rustic feel of punk fashion and I think
that this is a well rounded page. The text is useful
and there isn’t too much of it which would make it
easier to read for a younger audience. Despite this, I
think the the blank space at the bottom of the page
takes the chaotic feeling away and in the future I
would fill it. I could do this by writing more text and
adding more images. I liked using the contrasting
colors of each page throughout but here, I do wish I
had made it look like more of a coherent double
page spread. For example, if the pages were the
same color or if images crossed over onto the other
page. Finally, if I were to go back, I would add some
more quotations from relevant punk icons including
singers and fashion designers.
5. The bands that I have referenced on this page do
follow punk iconography but I believe that the
marble design wasn’t relevant and that I should’ve
have picked something different. Obviously, a marble
design reflects elegance and lavish which is quite
oxymoronic to punk ideology. This is the worst page
in general as it doesn’t serve any more use than just
aesthetics. I didn’t supply any useful information and
if I were to go back, that is what I would change. I
think this page would’ve been a great source to talk
bout other punk bands and how they may have taken
influence or been an influence of ‘The Clash’. I don’t
think my target audience would find this page
appealing due to it’s inconsistent them but, I do think
they would appreciate the aesthetic quality in
general.
6. Time Management
• Sadly, I didn’t manage my time well at the start of this project. I didn’t
create a Gantt Chart like I have done in previous projects so I therefor
didn’t make any back up plans in case I came across any issues. Because of
this, various small issues lead to a bigger problem and I had less time to
focus on my production. I ended up fixing this towards the ended of the
project and implemented efficient contingency plans so I am happy with
my over all time management, but it wasn’t great at the start. If I were to
go back, I would’ve adapted on my contingency plans from the start, we
were urged to make them but that wasn’t something that I focused my
attention. I could have also split my attention between more important
aspects of the projects and added detail to the less important projects
down the line.
7. Research
Planning
I spent a lot of time planning how my magazine would
look and where I would place everything which made my
final fanzine easy to make, I didn't waste any time because
I knew where I wanted everything to go. Despite this, I
wish I would have planned an extra double page spread
because I don’t think I would have had time to complete
another. If I had spent slightly less time on other pages
this would’ve have worked out but, as I said, my time
management was quite poor for this module.
I think my research was fairly strong and the other peoples work I had
looked at was very beneficial to my project. Despite this, I wish I had
gone into better detail to my analysis work.
