2. When coming to designing my rave article I chose my colours, fonts, images and number of words very carefully. Since it is a rave article I know the audience would like to see lots of colour and
pictures so I included lots of images and colour to catch the eye of my audience. If you look at the front cover I chose lots of old fashioned rave articles and I turned them in to a college to form the
front cover. I think this will instantly intrigue my audience as it looks abstract and it could possibly relate to the older audience as they may have attended one them. Another thing to mention is
the pages. All the pages have a correlation with the front cover as I have included parts of the front cover as the borders on my pages to give it a ripped look. Over all my work looks as if it has
been made with scissors and tape. This gives my fanzine a wacky feel and that’s what am aiming for as ravers are quite quirky themselves. Looking at all the images I have used you can see that I
have used tape to make it look like it has been stuck on by hand. I think the amount of text I have used is just the right amount. I didn't want too much as I didn’t want to disinterest my audience
by using blocks and blocks of text. Using the amount I have allows the viewer to learn facts but at the same time be engaged and entertained. I think another good factor is that it is a quick and
easy read. Time is precious and I wouldn't want to be taking to much out of peoples life's. People are normally have a busy schedule to run by so I think this quick read is perfect for saving you time
and entertaining you at the same time.
Introduction
3. Here is my front and back cover.
Firstly, when I making a front cover you have to think about pulling in your audience
to intrigue them to read your book, newspaper or magazine. When coming to
designing mine I had to think about what my audience likes and how they come
across. Looking at people at raves and speaking to them I came up with the idea that
they are: quirky, edgy, wild, different, colourful and fun. I also wanted to think about
the more older side of my audience is well as the young. So when coming to
designing my front cover I made a college of old colourful rave posters. I did this
because I think the old rave posters are really cool, different and colourful. Not only
are they all those things, they also relate to the audience and the information in my
fanzine. The older side of my audience may have been to some of these and it will
instantly draw them in as they have such a connection with the front cover. The
younger side of my audience will be interested in these old rave posters as chances
are they haven't seen them before and because they are interested in raves they will
like the history and look behind them. To go with all these rave posters I added a bold
title to make sure the viewers clearly see what my fanzine is about. I also chose quite
a quirky font to add to the abstract cover. Using the drop shadow tool in Photoshop
allowed me to really bring out my title.
4. Here is my 2nd and 3rd page.
Firstly when design my article I wanted lots of pictures and less text but at the same
time I wanted to teach the reader. I think my balance is spot on. I’ve split my main
rave article into six pages. The reason for this is because I wanted my article to be in
three, easy to read pages. Doing this has also allowed me to include lots of images. I
wanted my article to have that edgy feel so I added some candid pictures along with
nostalgic glow sticks and turntables. I have also added tape over them for it to seem
like I have stuck them on my hand adding that wacky feel. If you look at the boarder
I have added that ripped look to add more to the fact that I have created it by hand.
My audience should find all this entertaining as my audience are wacky, fun people.
Another way I wanted to relate to my audience was they way I wrote my article. If
you read the part where I mention street names for drugs, it should relate to the
drug users of my audience and I adds that kind of humor and laid back feel.
5. Here is my 4th and 5th page.
Firstly, I didn't want all three of my article pages to look the same so I split the
text up on to two different pages. In these pages I added some more candid
images along with pictures that relate to the text. This is important as it adds
imagery when reading the article. If you have a read you can see that I mention
police. Looking at my article you can see that I have added a nosey looking
police man at the bottom of page five . This again adds that wacky, humor feel I
want my audiences to experience. If you look to page four you can see that I
added a rave poster with a phone number on it. This also relates to my text.
6. Here is my 6th and 7th page
Firstly, as this page is about fashion I wanted plenty of colourful
images as the fashion back then was very wacky. Including lots
of images adds that imagery when you are reading the article. I
think this is important as it adds so much more interest to an
article. My audience will enjoy seeing images on how the
fashion was, how it has changed and what ravers still where to
this day. For example I mentioned about stone island being big
back then and I've included an image to go with that. As you can
see I have still kept that scrap book feel through out.
7. Here Is my 8th and 9th page
Firstly, is the second part to my magazine. This page is all about my
interview with an old school raver. I set it out like this because its easy to
follow. The bold Is me speaking and the raver is the smaller text. Again the
text is minimal but that’s what I wanted and I think my audience wants. A
quick, easy and fun read. I included a picture of a old raver in a funky shirt
to plant that image in my audiences head on what the raver may have
looked like.
8. Here is my 10th and 11th page
Firstly, these pages are about the clubs I have been to and my experience. I
wanted this to get across my feelings towards these clubs and try persuade
my audience to visit these hotspots. To help aid this I included some cool
pictures of these clubs. I think the layout also is very easy to follow. I
dedicated a full page to the warehouse project as I thought that was the best
club on the list. I also think it Includes some good facts like ’it used to be an
air raid shelter’ I think this is very interesting and I think my audience will
too.
9. Techniques used
I used these to create that tape look.
To make it look as if it was stuck on
and to look see through the tape, I
turned the opacity down on
Photoshop.
On the title on the
front cover, I used a
drop shadow on the
text to help it
standout on the busy
background.
On this page I hade to find a
picture of a police man and cut
him out on a background. To this I
used the magic wand tool on
Photoshop.
