1. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
• The target audience for my music magazine ‘Alt Rock’ is people between the ages of 16-24 who are fans of the punk rock
music genre. To attract my audience I carefully chose cover lines that would interest them by naming bands or artists in
that particular genre. I also made sure that these were legible and could be read from a distance so as to catch their eye; I
did this choosing a simplistic font and surrounded the text with a white glow so as to isolate them from the background
image. From hot desking and the focus group that I did, I know this technique was very effective.
• The clothes that the band member is wearing are dark and stylish which gives the impression that they're from the rock
scene and produces the genre of music people reading this magazine will enjoy.
• Also, I used colour to attract my audience. Bold, bright, and visually pleasing colours and themes are more likely to catch
the readers attention when on the shelf. From my hot desking I know that colour schemes work well as they requested for
the pink in the background image to tie in somewhere else. On the front cover I have included puffs which stand out from
the rest of the text and draw the audience’s attention . This text is in bold capitals and I’ve used buzzwords to keep them
interested. On my double page spread I used pull quotes and a stand first to break up the text making it easier to read
whilst drawing the readers attention to the article.
• The language I’ve used throughout ‘Alt Rock’ is informal and unacademic and I sometimes use slang terms to address my
audience. This is so that they can identify and relate to the writer and feel a closer connection through the comfortable,
similar use of language.
• Also, I sued advertising campaign’s to attract my audience by informing them of my product. I used TV, radio and online
adverts so that a wide range of people would see it.
