The document discusses ways in which the media product appealed to its target audience of 16-24 year olds of all races and genders. It aimed to attract this audience through editing images to make faces more prominent, adjusting colors and contrasts to look more realistic, using intriguing language on articles, and including models dressed in a style and backgrounds that audience could relate to. The layouts were clear and accessible to fulfill readers' needs. Images used direct eye contact and multiple shots to engage and inform the audience.

‘WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?’
AND
‘HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS THE AUDIENCE?’
2. TARGET AUDIENCE
I chose to make my production set as an alternative R&B
magazine aimed at young teens ranging into mid 20’s. the
main target audience ranging between the ages of 16-24
year old. My target audience includes all races, and no
gender bias – satisfies both males and females. This was
because, I felt the majority of readers would be in this
demographic of people, but also, when completing my
production, I would’ve found it a lot more challenging to
find older models to go into a similar genre of music. I
always planned to have an equal number of male and
female shots in my production to further the emphasis to
the fact that my magazine could appeal to both genders.
Even though my main double page spread article and artist
on my front page are the same male, the contents page
features female artists equalling out the gender bias.
4. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE
One thing I did to appeal to the audience
was making the editing more appealing for
the audience, done so by cropping images
so that the faces of the models to make
them more dominant. This creates stronger
relationship to the audience and draws
their attention. Furthermore, editing the
contrast and brightness of my images (as
shown to the right) gives the images a
more lifelike feel, making the image more
poignant. For my double page spread, I
edited the colours in order to make them
fit in with the colour scheme and mise-en-
scene that I had chosen. The large text box
covering sections of the image, gives the
article a mystical feel and makes it stand
out.
5. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE
(LANGUAGE)
I chose to use some particular language on my double
page spread and contents to appeal to my audience, and
allow the correct feel to be reflected onto the audience. I
decided that it would be a good idea to use words such
as ‘exclusive’ or ‘win’ which would create an enigma and
tension for the reader, meaning they would want to
continue reading and fulfil any needs. On my double
page spread I used language which fitted in well with the
overall tone of my magazine, using subtle and not
offensive language (no explicit text) in order to of course
appeal to my target audience.
6. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE - LAYOUT
For the contents page, I used clear columns
and rows in order to make the text accessible
for the reader and allow them to fulfil their
individual needs. This could be anything
from cognitive needs – lists of names
included, to informative needs. For the
double page spread I used a conventional
layout, due to the fact that my focus group
decided that the layout for my mock-up
double page spread didn’t fit the vibe of the
magazine and didn’t appeal to them. The
final piece for my double page spread is a lot
more conventional and follows the norms of
a double page spread. The arrow at the top
of my double page spread entices the
audience to turn the page and continue
reading.
7. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE – MISE-EN-
SCENE
THE FIRST WAY IN WHICH I APPEALED TO MY TARGET
AUDIENCE WAS TO USE CLOTHING SIMILAR TO WHAT I
WOULD PERCEIVE THEM TO WEAR. I WANTED TO
CREATE AN ARTIST THAT APPEALED TO THE AUDIENCE
UPON LOOKS AND CLASS. THIS IS WHY THE CLOTHING
FOR MY MAIN MALE MODEL IS SMART AND CLASSY;
THIS WOULD INSTANTLY MAKE THE GENRE AND TYPE
OF MAGAZINE CLEAR TO THE AUDIENCE, AND ALLOWS
A RELATIONSHIP TO FORM AS THEY CAN RELATE TO
THE MODEL. TO ADD TO THIS, HE BACKGROUNDS
USED IN SOME OF THE IMAGES (MAINLY THE DOUBLE
PAGE SPREAD) ARE SIMPLE AND NOT EFFECTED OR IN
A PARTICULAR PLACE, THIS ALLOWS THE AUDIENCE TO
ADAPT THEIR OWN VERSION OF PLACE IN RELATION
WITH THE ARTIST.
8. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE - IMAGES
I feel I appealed to my audience through the
images firstly using direct mode of address.
This would create a relationship with the
audience making them more drawn to the
magazine. This was clear on both the front
cover and the contents, however not as much
in the double page spread as I feel the body
language and the positioning was more
important for the reader to access than a
close up. However, I did still choose to
continue the theme of direct mode of
address throughout all the pages. Multiple
images on my contents page would fulfil a
wide range of cognitive needs, as well as
inform the reader what to expect inside
which would’ve appealed to them in
recognition of the names.
