Rationale:
The work I didfor the previous printprojectwassomethingIwasproudof and wouldreallylike
to expandon,especiallyfocusingonthe photographyandarticlesthatwill be includedwithinthe
pages.Fromthat project,I’ve beenable todevelopmyskillsinPhotoshoptosuitthe demandsof
magazine productionandfeel like it’ssetme uptobe able toproduce a good-lookingpiece of
workthat will appeal toitstargetaudience andaddresseverythingthatshouldbe expectedfrom
an existingproductof asimilarnature.I’ve chosenthis tobe my projectasit’ssomethingthatI’ve
beena consumerof myself aswell ashavingagood knowledgeof the culture aroundit.
Project Concept:
I’mgoingto create a rock musicmagazine withpromotionalmaterial thatcomesalongside it,
that includesdifferentsubgenresandarticlesthatwill suitthe differentkindsof readersandtheir
interests.Iwantto focuson the photographythatI’mgoingto include aswell asfocuson making
sure that the subjectsof each page are interestingandengagingtothe reader,aswell as
discussinghardertopicsthroughthe artistsandtheirworkthat mostpublicationswouldn’t
address.Iwant to include aCD that comeswiththe issue,designingthe case andthe diskitself,
to fitthe brand identityof the magazine.Anotherpiece thatI’mthinkingof producingisapage
consistingof a festival poster,containingthe datesandartiststhatare goingto be performing,as
it’ssomethingthat’sverycommoninsimilarproducts,butisdifferenttocreatingaportrait
posteror art print,as its keypurpose istobe informative.
As formy research,Iplan ontakingadvantage of beinga consumerof thiskindof product and
knowingmanypeople whose lifestyleshave takeninfluence fromrockmusic,theirstyles,
professionsandopinions.I’mthinkingaboutcreatingaquestionnairethatwouldleadto
potential topicsthattheywouldwanttosee ina product like this,aswell aswhattheywould
wantto be includedintermsof imagery.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I planon payingclose attentiontodetail aswell asreferringtothe researchI'mgoingto conduct
inorder to evaluate myfinishedproject,aswell aswritingweeklydairyentriesaboutthe
decisionsImake withmywork.Thisisgoing to be useful tome forfuture workas it preparesme
so that I knowhowto correctlymove forwardsthrougha project.
