Ethos Pathos Logos Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Ethos Pathos Logos" can be quite challenging, as it requires
a deep understanding of rhetorical strategies and their application in persuasive writing. The
intricacies of dissecting these three pillars of persuasion – ethos, pathos, and logos –
demand not only a theoretical comprehension but also a practical ability to identify and analyze
them in real-world scenarios.
To begin with, delving into the realm of ethos involves exploring the credibility and authority of
the speaker. This requires extensive research to understand the background, qualifications, and
reputation of the individual or entity presenting the argument. Balancing this with the emotional
appeal of pathos, which involves connecting with the audience on a personal and emotional
level, adds another layer of complexity. It requires the skill to evoke specific emotions that
resonate with the intended readership.
Furthermore, incorporating logos, the appeal to logic and reason, necessitates constructing a
coherent and well-structured argument. This involves presenting evidence, facts, and logical
reasoning in a way that is compelling and convincing. Striking the right balance between these
three elements is an art that demands not only knowledge but also a keen awareness of the target
audience and their perspectives.
Moreover, the challenge lies not just in understanding these rhetorical techniques individually but
in seamlessly integrating them into a cohesive and persuasive essay. The task becomes even more
daunting when attempting to analyze existing texts or speeches to identify and evaluate the
presence of ethos, pathos, and logos.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Ethos Pathos Logos" requires a multifaceted approach,
blending theoretical understanding with practical application. It demands a deep dive into
rhetorical strategies, effective analysis, and the ability to present a compelling argument. The
complexity of this task may leave many grappling with the nuances of persuasive writing.

Essay about Alternative Transportation Greenways System...
Alternative Transportation Greenways System Plan
In Transportation Alternative s Bicycle Blueprint for the five boroughs of New York
City, John Kaehny, executive director, states:
Making greenway networks a reality will require partnership between planners and
advocates, on the one hand, and public officials controlling purse strings on the other.
Local elected officials, particularly city council members and borough presidents,
have to be reminded that greenways can multiply the value and variety of open
space in the region at very low cost in public resources; under ISTEA, bike and
pedestrian projects may be paid for using a 20/80 local/federal matching formula.

This committee is charged with guiding Ratio Architects, the city contracted
engineering firm, in facilitating public workshops, preparing the planning document,
and crafting a comprehensive plan.
This paper will explore the policy process underlying the development of the City of
Bloomington s Alternative Transportation and Greenways System Plan. It will
investigate the issues and the actors, the rules and policies that influence an outcome,
priorities and alternatives, as well as the lessons that can be learned from this project
and others like it.
Issues
First and foremost, the most pressing issue and reason for the current greenways
project rests on the desire of the citizenry to realize and exercise alternative means of
transportation. Indiana, like most mid western states, is heavily dependent upon
fossil fuels and recognizes the strong hold that fuel economies have on its citizens. In
Life After Oil Jeremiah Creedon states, Oil supplies are dwindling and much faster
than most business, government, and even environmental leaders recognize.
Problems are already appearing in the form of climbing gasoline prices, electricity
shortages, and skyrocketing heating bills. 3
Nonetheless Indiana still seems perfectly
Concert Styles Paper
Concert Setting
Performance Style
As compared to a traditional setting, there are large groups of djembe players with
accompanying parts with a ballet troupe in a concert setting. (Polak., (2000). In a
concert setting, they will perform many dances in rapid succession at high energy
levels. There are also modern urban electric groups (called orchestras) which largely
involved guitar playing. (Price, 2013). Moreover, most recently, another genre has out
grown the ballet style djembe playing, these new ensembles have further remove
traditional djembe drumming by disposing of dancers. (Charry., 1996) To date, the
djembe plays an important role in the highly percussive rhythmic section in concerts
and performances. (Conakry et.al)

With the help of hand clapping, one is able to notate it perfectly with eighth notes and
sixteenth notes. (Charry, 2000) Moreover, there is a relation between African
drumming and physical movement such as dancing. With the help of adding
choreography to African drumming, there is a flow and ebb to the performance
which corresponds to the frenetic dancing at intense tempos and slower breaks allow
the guests to participate the performance. (Charry., 1996). For instance, in our UWA
percussion ensemble, adding body percussion to the performance can help us
remember the beats and brighten up the performance.
Limitations
Alternatively, there were limitations in the transmission of music in the concert
setting. For instance, rhythms of the ballet were modified or even changed drastically
for the presentation for the performance. This resulted in a change of tempo or the
djembe accompaniments. Thus, this leads to a loss of authenticity and depth, as
compared to a traditional djembe performance.
Moreover, African rhythmic concepts were difficult to explain. Thus, in order to
teach the foreign students effectively, teachers began to simplify the rhythms and it
became fixed. Similarly, to the UWA percussion ensemble, our conductor help
simplified our piece as certain rhythms were hard to follow. In addition, the notes and
rhythms were repetitive and fixed hence making it easier for us to remember and
China s Domestic Market Development
The China market provides many opportunities for foreign firms to take part in its
economy; this is different from transferring parts of an industry to China taking
advantage of high quality labor at low costs for the purpose of re exporting.
China is revolutionizing its economic standards to be able to compete head to head
with the advanced industrial countries in the world. China s domestic market growth
potential is a topic of concern for many people in business and government all over
the world. The rising friction between China and its major trading partners, the
United States and the European Union, over China s currency policy and the safety
of China s exports have caused China to do some intense house cleaning. It is ... Show

He says the proposal for Government Withdrawal from the Market in Guangdong
would stimulate the market and be the fundamental starting point to boost the
economy. Today, Guangdong is a SEZ, which has attracted many foreign firms to
come and build their factories in this part of China. According to Mary Amiti and
Beata Smarzynska Javorcki, in their research paper Trade Costs and Location of
Foreign Firms in China, in 2001 there were 2,945 foreign firms in all of China and
there were over 600 foreign investment enterprises (FIEs) located in Guangdong
alone; the most number of firms than any other province in China. (See Adapted
Figures on the next page: A.1 A.3 ) When China entered the WTO, the number of
foreign firms in China increased dramatically; the number of foreign firms reached
468,200 early that year.
Between 1999 and 2001 there were many different forms of FIEs entering China s
market. As shown on the following page in Table A.1., adapted from a research
study conducted by Amiti, Mary and Beata Smarzynska Javorcki, foreign
manufacturing industries were the majority of entrants into the market. All of these
companies had to enter as a joint venture with a local because it was the only way to
enter the market as a foreigner before China entered the WTO, which is discussed
later in this paper. The western industries came in

Markus Zusak s post modern novel, The Messenger , investigates how people
display unforeseen qualities such as empathy, care, selflessness, courage, justice
and love when under stress. The messages that Ed Kennedy delivered were
primarily focused on Ed s close friends and family members, of which they too
displayed unforeseen qualities. In the act of delivering the messages, he encounters
strangers who under the actions undertook by Ed, are affected in their personality

compassion and benevolence. These attributes would have been non existent in him if

Ritchie wasted his life away; Marv had been saving money for someone he had yet
to meet in life; and Audrey was a serial monogamist who largely had feelings for
Ed, but not in an explicit way. At this moment, Ed now has developed his sense of
compassion and benevolence, so he now has a desire to help others. Ed see Ritchie
at home with nothing to do. When Ritchie and Ed go down to the river, Ritchie is
slightly pressed on by Ed to talk about his problems; he explains that he feels lost
in life and so he wants to want , meaning he wants to have a life full of prospects
and possibilities, unlike his life now. Subsequently, he starts looking for a job,
indicating a change to Ritchie s negative perspective of himself. We come to know
of Marv s missing piece in life as his young daughter. Marv was also pressured by
Ed to explain his personal problems ... when her family left town...there was a
reason they just disappeared...the kid s about two and a half. This refers to his
former girlfriend, Suzanne Boyd, whom he impregnated. Because of his
everlasting devotion to the kid, it is no wonder why he had a car of inferior

when Suzanne arranges to meet with Ed, with the child. As a result, his character
transformed completely and became more joyful as a person he hugs me so hard...I

I Believe In Dancing Through Rain
I believe in dancing in the rain: the kind of rain that makes your clothes become
dripping wet in seconds. The rain that sends a shock through your body when the
first raindrop hits the back of your neck. Then more and more raindrops fall until
every area of your skin is wet and suddenly the feeling of discomfort disappears. I
believe that to reach happiness in life, you have to struggle. I have always struggled
in life, but the times when I have pushed through the struggle, are the times I have
found happiness.
Soon enough you become oblivious to the rain and your arms reach towards the
clouds with a mind of their own, your legs begin to spin. Before you know it, you are
dancing through the rain without a care in the world. Everything in the
Essay on the American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
The American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
America was founded on the belief that all men are created equal. However, a
question must be posed which asks who constitutes men and what is equal ? Africans
were taken from their country and enslaved in America. They had to fight to retain
dignity and grace in circumstances that were deplorable. Even slaves who were well
taken care of were not able to realize the dream of being free again.
In her work, Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison relates a story of the dream of
Milkman. Although he is not a slave, Milkman is enslaved by the fact that as a child,
he was forced to participate in a shameful act that he wanted no part of. Even his
nickname was derived from this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of letting the situation be and making apologies, He comes to me with some
way out tale of how come and why (76). Milkman did not want to participate in this
discussion, but he had no choice.
Milkman must go on a difficult journey. He was never a slave. His family has
money and education; however, Milkman is not satisfied. He longs to be
connected to his past. He leaves everything behind to discover his roots, and his
journey, though it leads to his death, is accomplished for he is free. His dream has
been reached, but he cannot reap its benefits. Milkman cannot enjoy the success he
shares with his family until he finds his people from the South. He retraces the
history that he gathered from his family and recounts it to his people in Georgia
where he discovers more truth and more myths. This revisiting of his roots is a
characteristic of Africans, even if they are not direct descendants of Africa. Their
dream cannot be accomplished until they are sure where their people belonged
centuries before the recent generations existed.
Pilate is a prime example of not existing in a traditional family setting. When their
father died, Macon and Pilate were separated and sent to live with relatives or, in
Pilate s case, live a nomadic life traveling from place to place. They had no contact
with each other because of a disagreement that occurred a few days after their father
was murdered. Pilate
Project Management Life Cycle Models
Before I start discussing the five project management life cycle models, it is very
important to understanding below project management landscape and its four
Quadrants:
Quadrants 1: Contains Traditional Project Management (TPM), this approach has a
clear project goal and clear project solution.
Quadrants 2: Contains Agile Project Management (APM), this approach has a clear
project goal and not clear project solution.
Quadrants 3: Contains Extreme Project Management (xPM), in this approach both
project goal and project solution are not clear solution.
Quadrants 4: Contains Emertxe Project Management (PMx), this approach has not
clear project goal and clear project solution.
According to (Wysocki, 2012) there are five Project ... Show more content on

The Incremental PMLC model takes longer than linear PMLC model which increase
the cost, time, and effort required to execute the project. To mitigate this risk we
should have a powerful monitoring and control tools. Those tools should help to keep
the project on track with respect to project scope, budget, and schedule.
3)Iterative PMLC:
This model follows APM approach. According to (Wysocki, 2012) An Iterative
PMLC model consists of a number of process groups that are repeated sequentially
within an iteration with a feedback loop after each iteration is completed. At the
discretion of the client, the last process group in an iteration may release a partial
solution .
Risks, failures, and mitigation strategy:
According to (Wysocki, 2012) below are the risks and mitigation plan for this model:
The client involvement in this model is more than linear and incremental PMLC
models. If the required degree of client s involvement and ownership is not available
then the project will be on risk. To mitigate this risk we should have a clear
definition of the client s roles, responsibilities, and availabilities.
The Iterative PMLC model requires co located teams. This is very difficult
requirement because most of the projects have design offices and project consultants
all over the world and the co located teams are not possible. To mitigate this risk a
well defined communication plan must be

Snapchat s Negative Influence On Communication
When something goes away in less than 10 seconds it becomes more valuable. The
viewer only gets a short span to view it and therefore will focus more attention on it.
This is the idea that is demonstrated by Snapchat. Users can send photos or video
clips but they must be under 10 seconds. After the recipient has viewed the snap, the
snap is deleted. Many users praise the efficiency of the app and the effortless
communication style it brings. Snapchat was started in 2012 by Evan Spiegel, Bobby
Murphy, and Reggie Brown. The trio attended Stanford University together, and they
launched Snapchat after their previous application, Future Freshmen, had failed.

He believes it has caused social skills to decline in the younger generation. I think
people are less inclined to embrace awkward conversations with random people and
they really miss out on a lot because of that, Randel said. He sees this lost ability as
an epidemic in this generation which is fueled by the use of social media like
Snapchat. Randel says that because users typically just Snapchat things that are

In Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House, we are introduced to the 19th century relationship
between Nora and her husband Torvald Helmer. While reading through the three acts
of the play numerous things are uncovered. It becomes clear that Torvald and his
expectation for his wife are strongly influenced by society and culture in the 19th
century. Torvald himself believes that he is the ideal husband. Torvald believes his
wifeis clueless and he is her savior. However in reality Torvald is the one that s
clueless and Nora is his savior. Additionally, Nora is everything he ever wanted to

he truly believes that Nora is clueless and needs his help to survive just like a child

when Nora asks her husband for money. Torvald s response is What are little people

The American Colonial Period
The American colonial period refers to the years 1600 1776, in which Great Britain
sent colonists to live on the east coast of North America. During this period the
American people went from dutiful British citizens to rebels who rose up against
their mother country to gain their independence. This period was formative in both
our legislation and literature, setting a precedent and groundwork for their
contemporaries and descendants. In my opinion the core of colonial American
literature can be summed up in three themes: Morality, enlightenment, and
transcendentalism. The founding fathers had a vested interest in moral conditions
and standards. Colonial America started with many religious castaways, including
Puritans and Quakers, notoriously conservative and strict in their ideologies. These
were the seeds that were sowed when these groups were isolated and began to self
govern. With the political upheaval, philosophers were... Show more content on

The invention of the printing press and the electric light let ideas spread more rapidly
and lifestyles change to accommodate the new knowledge. Rational thought and the
scientific method from Francis Bacon brought common sense and exponential
advancement to the developing country. This paved the way for modern secular
thinking and scientific advancement, including disease control, contraception, and
ethical legal proceedings. These two values came together in a specific and politically
relevant way in the 1800 s. Transcendentalism was a literary movement often
associated with writers like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau and
most popular in the late 1820 s and 1830 s. Transcendentalists tout the merits of
individuality, connection with nature, and total freedom. More than just a literary
theme, transcendentalism is a worldview, an optimistic one. The core belief is that
human beings and nature are inherently good, and personal intuition is to be

, However, as Marxist theory distillates on class division, and is concentrated on
the macro level only, this view of Social Work s position at the interface of
exclusion and inclusion is not conclusive. The Social Worker would be seen as
working more in line with the lumpenproletariat and not providing services to the
proletariat and certainly not the bourgeoisie , therefore places social work at the
heart of the excluded and not the included. Moreover as social work from the
Marxist perspective, is placed firmly within the macro level, the individualism and
person centred approach that the social worker aims to provide the client cannot be
fulfilled, as to do so would mean to be working at the micro level which the Marxist
view discounts. The Functionalist stance referencing the concept of social exclusion
is to describe a group, or groups, of people who are excluded from the normal
activities of their society in multiple ways, thus deviating from their societies norms
of behaviour (Sheppard, 2006). A functionalist perspective of social exclusion is,
therefore, focussed upon the excluded persons being deviant and non conforming to
social norms. However, unlike the Marxist perspective, the Functionalist would
concentrate on the social worker operational on the macro and the micro level,
working with the individual,

At first I have only the most general notion of what I was doing on an August

station in Wilmington, Delaware (waiting for a train? missing one? 1960? 1961?
why Wilmington?), but I do remember being there. The woman in the dirty crepe

Market analysis with direct competitor in the region suggests that studio prices are at

competition in the new pricing model. Comparison with the general market suggests
similar findings. MAIN REPORT
In May 2006, Westmount Retirement Residence was having very low profitability.
Its very simple pricing model essentially charged each resident the same price per
month regardless of their needs. This was due to a change in the patientsВґ demands.
In the past, patientsВґ demands were similar and therefore the companyВґs pricing
and costing system was appropriate. But changes in the population and in the
requirements of the residents caused that the pricing model remained out of date and
the costing system inappropriate. One of the problems observed when analyzing the
companyВґs situation was that due to the costing system used it was not possible to
have a clear picture of how much each of the services offered were costing.
Consequently, it was clearly very difficult being able to define a pricing system that
will give the shareholders the desired profit. The first step was to design a new
costing system adequate for the company
Hunchback Of Notre Dame Film Analysis
When one examines a work of art, context often casts the work in a radically
different light. Art does not exist in a vacuum, and nearly every work of art is
influenced both by its surrounding environment, and comments or critiques upon that
environment. Since its inception, film has been a widely accessible venue for these
critiques and often serve as time capsules of what people from a certain time and
place thought about the world. Not only that, but film also marks different shifts in
political and social attitudes that shape the course of history. But how are these
attitudes communicated to the audience, and how did the filmmakers come to
believe them? By examining several great Hollywood films over a span of three
decades, the answer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Hunchback was a film that empowered the supporters of progress, and
foresaw the downfall of those whose prejudice kept the status quo.
A film that incorporated the similar themes of nobles and their mistreatment of the
people was 1937 s The Adventures of Robin Hood. In Robin Hood, the main
antagonist and key ruler, Prince John serves as an antithesis to the ideals of the main
hero and the film itself. He is selfish and unsympathetic to the plight of both the poor
and the Saxons, favoring the wealthy Normans in his court. His damning flaw is the
same as all the other nobles: the exploitation of the plight of the lower classes. This
flaw even extends to the protagonists, since Maid Marian is ignorant about the
persecution of the Saxons until she visits the Merry Men s camp. The key difference,
in this case is the choice that the characters make as to whether or not they will be
complacent and keep the status quo. All of the good guys in Robin Hood show
open defiance towards Prince John s regime, and value courage to stand up for
those who are weaker. The cinematography reflects this with many brightly lit, low
angle shots of Robin Hood, emphasizing his bravado and saintliness, as well as the
scene of the Merry Men ambushing Guy s caravan from a literal and moral high
ground. By contrast, Prince John is cowardly and sneaky; never getting his hands dirty
The Discovery Of North America
The discovery of North America sparked a new era of exploration, expansion, and
colonization. Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new
territory where they could prosper financially and benefit their home country as much
as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as was maintaining positive relationships
with Native Americans and running a successful colony. Although all European
countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad their own
reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than
others. Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms
of colonizing a new land for their country.
The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in
Hispaniola and Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their
territory. An explorer named Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the
Aztecs, which was far richer and larger than any town in Spain. When invited into the
city, Cortes sought to conquer, enslave and steal from the wealthy city. By forming
many alliances with Native tribes who hated the Aztecs, the Spanish overtook the
city, showing no mercy towards their enemies. They enslaved those they didn t kill,
and disassembled some of the former Aztec pyramids into Christian Cathedrals.
Cortes was eventually named governor of Mexico after his victory. The Spanish had
more urban establishments in the Americas

The Lincoln s Inner Shield Process
While advances in welding technology have been frequent, arc welding products ,
in the main have hardly changed except for Lincoln s Inner shield process. The
most common Lincoln electrode, the Fleet weld 5P, has virtually been the same
since the 1930s. The most popular engine driven welder in the world , the Lincoln
SA 200, has been a gray colored assembly including a four cylinder Continental
engine and a 200 ampere direct current generator with two current control knobs
for at least three decades . A 1980 model, SA 200 even weighs almost the same as
the 1950 model and certainly is a little changed in appearance. All the of above
reflects the continued influence of the founder where he maintained his position as
an engineer and inventor and hence there has been little or diversion from the
founder s idea of making welding products. This can also be alluded from the fact
that the 1980 SA 200 almost weighs the same like the 1950 model which further ,
shows that there has been little change to the materials being used to manufacture this
welder but hence , only cost effective ways of manufacturing are at play.Consistence
was the main goal of the company. Even after his death, the present workforce still
highly rate their founder when it comes to depend on the model which was invented a
long time ago hence, the continuation and maintenance of the brand instead. Lincoln
saw the customer s needs as the raison d etre for every company, and hence,
The Hero Of A Hero
In our society, everyone desires a heroic reputation. Whether it brought an inward
joy, or a reputable outward facade, exemplifying a hero developed into something
everyone longed to do. This ambition remains today. However, obtaining a hero like
persona constitutes much more than saving a cat from a tree or helping an elderly
woman cross the street. A heronot only affects the direct person in need of help, but
the many around as well. In order to have the classification of a hero, one must adopt
a courageous, determined, selfless, and inspiring attitude while also attaining an
opportunity to show heroism. A hero must manifest the trait of courage, even when
put in a tough situation in order to help another out. Courage allows people to... Show

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. acted as the symbol for the many protests in the fight to
end segregation. This job required King Jr. to stand up in front of many and against
many in order to rally and fight for his beliefs. King Jr. emerged as a hero to all
African American citizens who struggled through trials of racial discrimination for
hundreds of years. Doing this required a huge amount of determination because for
the most part, the government wouldn t budge, causing King Jr. to have to keep
fighting until he finally reached his goal. He occupied an abundance of determination
and courage; so much, that it cost him his life. With these traits, Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. allowed himself to inspire the population and put himself at high risk while
doing so. Determination drives a person to achieve greatness with regards for others,
therefore qualifying the person who uses this trait, and the others, as a hero.
Selflessness allows a hero to see past themselves to achieve the goal of attending to
people s needs. To fully apply oneself, one must put others first. In 1986 the
Chernobyl nuclear power plant received complications that resulted in a spillage of
radioactive material into an emergency pool, which put it in danger for blowing up.
Three volunteers, Alexi Ananenko, Valeri Bezpoalov, and Boris Baronov, decided to
suit up and swim to stop the pool from exploding. If they did not, many civilians
would die. However, going into
Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of...
There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population,
production, regulation, distribution and reproduction are all forces that create
potential problems that lead to the creation of institutional systems. In other words,
institutional systems are created because of the given selection pressures. The main
goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of them
can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce
biologically and culturally, the institution of kinshipaids to resolve the pressures of
reproduction. In the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in
society, religion could help fulfill the selection pressures of regulation. Education, like
kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also regulate the roles of individuals. Just
like these three institutions, the others also play a role in resolving other selection
pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus of this
paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of
reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the
issue of reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society
needs to reproduce biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that
Turner provides for kinship is that it allows marriageand blood ties organized into
structures and mediated by
Associated Fire Alarms
The case which best reflects redundancy is the case of O Brien v Associated Fire
Alarms (1969).In this case the applicant was employed to work in Liverpool. Due to
the demand of his work his employment was declined. He was then sent to Barrow In
Furness. His express refusal to relocate resulted in the termination of his contract. The
Employment Tribunalheld that he was redundant; this was due to there being no
mobility requirement within his contract. The case which compares to the case of
O Brien v Associated Fire Alarms (1969) is the case of Bass leisure v Thomas
(1994). In this case the company in question looked to move their company 20 miles
away from their original premises. In this case the Employment Tribunalargued that

The Vicious Cycle Of Deity In Joseph Conrad s The Heart
Of...
The Vicious Cycle Of Deity In Joseph Conrad s novel The Heart Of Darkness,
power is expressed throughout. Power is considered a large concept in the novel
and is presented as two different things, power in nature and power in humans.
Power in humans is more complicated in the novel than it is in nature because
nature has a power system of its own and humans do not and constantly fight for it.
For humans, in order to receive power they go through several tasks just to achieve
it. Kurtz is a prime example of expressing power, how he craves and achieves
power is disturbing. However, Kurtz uses his power by ruining the jungle and
dehumanizing the natives that live there. Furthermore, the Europeans going to the
Congo crave the same power that Kurtz does and will go through any efforts just to
get it, like collecting ivory. Kurtz is one of the many men sent to the jungle to
collect ivory and strip the land of its natural resources. He became known as
powerful for his knowledge and large collection of ivory. His power gives him the
ability to achieve popularity from those back in Europe and the natives that live in the
Congo. However, the power in Kurtz demonstrates his ignorance as he feels he must
save the natives from themselves, leading him to dehumanize them. While in the
jungle, Kurtz is in the true heart of darknesswhich is the farthest station in the jungle.
Kurtz keeps being fed this illusion of power because he has been stuck in the
darkness of the jungle for so long

The Chrysler Group s Merger with Fiat
The Chrysler Group LLC initial public offering (IPO) was initiated by a trust
known as the United Auto Workers (UAW) Retiree Medical Benefits Trust to
cover medical benefits for retired workers who owned 41.5% of the company. The
trust was created in 2007 as a way of reducing Chrysler s financial liability of
paying existing workers and former employees health care costs and retirements.
Initially, the trust was not supposed to have a large share of its assets in the form of
stock, but with Chryslerrunning out of cash the following year, and falling into
bankruptcy in 2009, the only asset it could offer was its own stock.
Fiat and Chrysler formed a partnership in 2009, when Chrysler emerged from
Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States. Since then, it has gradually
increased its ownership, and combining its operations. Fiat owned 58.5% of
Chrysler, and prior to the IPO offer in September 2013, Fiat long wanted to acquire
the remaining stake from UAW, but the two sides could not reach an agreement
over what is a fair price. As a result, UAW decided to file for IPO, using a provision
of the bankruptcy agreement that allowed it to require registration for an IPO.
However, after further negotiations, the Italian company settled a $4.35 billion deal
to buy the remaining shares (41.5%) from UAW in early January 2014, avoiding a
planned IPO of the third biggest American carmaker . As a result of the buyout,
Chrysler became a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat.
The Little Prince Analysis
Uncountable hours have been spent on searching for the best way to use the time we
have on the Earth and to live our lives to the fullest. Nevertheless, it seems that no
ones has found the perfect answer. Throughout The Little Prince (1943), Antoine de
Saint Exupery gives the reader a look on how society views time. In particular, de
Saint Exupery offers up a critique on how many individuals value saving time and
efficiency over anything else. The Little Princeis able to see this first hand through his
various interactions with grownups along his journey. The novella is able to convey
the fact that society has become overly consumed with the pursuit of efficiency, while
some people become enthralled with a task at hand, they would not waste time to
enjoy other things in life that may be more meaningful. However, taking your time is
often more rewarding than rushing in an attempt to save time.
It seems that nowadays many people live by the saying time is money and spend all
their time fully dedicated to work. The line separating an individual s work and life
has become essentially blurred and it is not uncommon to have people wholly
wrapped up with work, having no time for anything unrelated. Although de Saint
Exupery wrote the little prince in 1943, his work is very much relevant today. On the
Little Prince s journey across planets he meets two characters, the businessman and
the geographer, both demonstrating the unbalanced relationship between work and
time. The businessman is so devoted in his work that he barely acknowledges the
Little Prince. He deems that time not spent working is such a waste that he only
talks to the Little Prince in between his work. The businessman claims he only has
time to be concerned about matters of consequence (The Little Prince) 53, which is
not disparate from how many, in the real world, view their jobs to be essential, thus
spending less time doing other things.
Likewise, the geographer is consumed by his work and considers the time spend
working in essence invaluable. He claims that geographers is much too important to
go loafing about (The Little Prince) 64, thus he does not do any exploring. Ironically
this leaves the geographer with nothing to
United States Foreign Policy During The Cold War
All of the stands and actions that a nation takes in from its relationships with other
countries is foreign policy. It involves treaties, alliances, trade, defense budget,
foreign economic and military aid, United Nations, nuclear weapon testing and
negotiations. Foreign policy has great other matters to, but the basic purpose of this
policyhas always been for it to protect the security of the United Statesas whole. From
the start of Foreign Policyto 150 years later, this policy was built largely around the
policy of isolationism. This policy or in other words, doctrine, isolated a country from
the affairs of other nations by declining alliance entrance, economic commitment, and

Music Production, Branding And Music Consumption With

INTRODUCTION The landscape of music industry has undeniably changed during
the past 15 years. The advancing technology made a big impact on how we produce,
market, promote, monetize and consume music. In my essay response I will be
focusing on three themes: music production, branding and music consumption with
my overarching theme being Technology. For an established or up and coming
band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising,
recordings and publishing. These income sources are still here, but there are so
much more options now. This is the reason why for bands and artists it is more
difficult now then it was back then, because they have all these choices to make

In 2014 the overall music market value was only $14.97 billion (IFPI, 2014). The
music record industry went into decline because of the advancing computers and
telecommunication technologies, new MP3 format and Peer to Peer file sharing
websites. Consumers stopped buying tangible formats like CDs and preferred to
have everything on their hard drives. They were also able to get music for free,
because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also
changed the relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label
would pay all the costs in a typical contract, which covers studio costs, session
musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being recorded in digital format
and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being digital
downloads and streaming. This means that artists can take care of the whole
process from start to finish. MUSIC PRODUCTION Technology is like a river and
can change its direction completely. It can move in a different direction from what
once was considered to be true and into one expected logically in the future. The
cost and accessibility barrier is lowered with every new technology arriving and
therefore the competition is increasing (Peter Alexander, 1994). In late 80s digital
music recording was emerging, but with technological limitations like computer
memory and speed, the artist couldn t do more than sampling. In early and mid 90s

Amober Alert Research Paper
America s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response or Amber Alert Plan, as many
know it, is a way of alerting the citizens of Texas, and the United States as a whole
of when a child has been abducted. The AMBER Alert System began in 1996 in the
Dallas Fort Worth area when a broadcasting team collaborated with the local police
to make an early warning system to warn people to be on the lookout for abducted
children. This idea was conceived as a legacy to Amber Hagerman, a nine year old
who was kidnaped in Arlington while riding her bike. The AMBER alertsystem is
crucial to protecting the children of the United Statesof America and those across the
world. Today, every state in America and several countries abroad have enacted the

The AMBER alert system is very well run and has saved a lot of children from
possibly life altering situations. The only change that I would make is one of
informational prevention. What I mean by that is we must inform the public, not
only when an AMBER alert is emitted but before so we can prevent a possible
situation. I believe this starts within the home, as parents they must monitor their
children s time online to ensure they are not talking to people who they are not
supposed to be talking to. While the Internet is a great tool it is also a great
medium for possible predators to begin to stalk your children. Parents must be
aware of who their children are speaking to online to prevent the possibility of an
abduction in the future. Other precautions are very simple as well, such as being
aware of where they are and setting boundaries and rules of where they could be at
certain times. Another precaution could be as simple as ensuring the child has an up
to date Identification card. In the home, parents should also warn the children of
possible dangers from strangers and possible situations that if they are found in a
difficult situation how they should react. Parents must also be informed of the truth
about abductions. According to kidshealth.org most children who are reported
missing have run away or are just lost. Those who are truly abducted, most are taken
by a family member or someone well trusted; the other 25% are taken by strangers.
Lastly, the website informs us that most kids are in their teens when they are
abducted. This information is crucial to helping prevent the possible abduction and
should be readily available to all families in order to prevent situations like that of

Comparative Study on Efficiency of Public and Private Sector banks in Peshawar: A
Case Study of ABL and NBP
Abstract This paper investigates the efficiency of public and private sector banks in
Peshawar. For this purpose, we have taken the secondary data from income
statement, balance sheet and other financial reports of banks for the year for the
year 2010, 2011 and 2012.We have used ratio analysis technique on financial
statements of the two banks to find out the efficiency that which sector banks is more
efficient. Both banks are considered very big and important financial institution for
providing services to government employee and general publics. The all ratios result
reveals that ABL is more efficient than the NBP and on the basis of these findings it
accepts the hypothesis that The private sector banks are more efficient than public
sector banks in Peshawar and reject the hypothesis The public sector banks are more
efficient than private sector banks in Peshawar . we realize in this study that the
private sector banks in Peshawar have better management and control over it as
compare to public sectors bank. we suggest that Investors should invest in private
sector banks rather t public sector banks in Peshawar and Recommended some good

Human Rights And Moral Values
Human rights can be conceptualised in diverse ways mostly attained through various
experiences to one person human rights may simply be unjustified demands while to
another are entitlements held by a human being. Morality played a big role in the
formation and development of human rights hence. The United Nations Universal
Declaration of 1948 celebrated human rightsas a great moral value. There are various
theories of humanrightsincluding the moral perspective defining what human rights
are and their justification, but these cannot be an alternative of the human rights but
foundations from which human rights emerge.
INTRODUCTION
The universal declaring of 1948 celebrated the belief in human rights as a great moral
value. The definition of human rights shows they are rights accorded to humans
because they are human and independent of their varying social circumstances and
degrees of merit. The very concept of the existence of human rights raises different
questions about the analysis of the concept of human rights of the advantages or
disadvantages of the rights, vocabulary or their content or even their justification.
This goes on questions of whether there is any ground for believing in something
universal and inalienable like Human rights.
ARE HUMAN RIGHTS AN ALTERNATIVE TO MORAL VALUES
Moral theories maintain that human rights represent the moral rights that human
beings have by virtue of being human others says that human rights are the choice of
a particular moral
Accommodating Speed Limits
The Methods and practices for setting speed limits locally, and globally started
prior to the year 1885 when Karl Benz had revealed the first gas powered engine
automobile on public roads. The car would reach about 13mph (21km/h). With the
induction of better and faster vehicles and accommodating roadways speed limits
or initial guidelines were established nearly 200 years preceding vehicles when
Newport, Rhode Island prohibited horses galloping on major streets or in busy
areas such as the markets or near churches to prevent pedestrian deaths. Boston
Massachusetts limited carriage speed to a walking or foot pace on Sundays to
protect church goers. In 1861 the English parliament was the first to set a speed limit
for mechanically propelled vehicles using something called the locomotive Act
categorizing automobiles as light locomotives restricting the speed to 10mph (16km
/h) on highways and 5mph (8km/h) in city or village limits, along with new
operating speeds came rules to accompany them. A driver had to have 2 passengers;

Questions On The Final Exam
Omar Alharthi Prof. Hagstrom LING 408 12.7.2014 Final Exam Part 1 Discuss
briefly any four of the following topics (about 100 300 words each). Provide
examples to illustrate your discussion. a.Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of
verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they express. Unlike tense that is
semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time moving
through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked
and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that
happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis
on the temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be
made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and
appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers
two perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms
are those verbs in the simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are
progressive forms such as am walking, was reading, were eating... It is crucial to
understand that the completion or duration of the event does not distinguish between
perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either form.
For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth
round clearly shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that
happened over a period of time. there is also
How Did Donatello Tell The Story Of The Annunciation
In your own words, explain how Donatello has told the story of The Annunciation in
sculpture and why contemporaries were so impressed with his achievement.
Donatello is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 15th century. A
member of the innovative group of painters, architects and sculptors that
revolutionised art in
Florence at the beginning of the 15th century, he succeeded in becoming perhaps the
most successful
in his field due to his understanding of the aspects of classical sculpture and the

The story of the Annunciation is one that focuses on the centuries long Islamic
perspective of
judgement and expectation of others, especially women. Set during a period of time
where the
sacred nature of a woman s purity was highly valued, the angel Gabriel s message to
the Virgin
Mary was not one entirely void of danger and aprehension. An unwed mother would
undoubtedly
be persecuted by her peers and this is the danger that Mary faced with the
deliverance of the news.
Donatello s job was to not only create a skilled and beautiful piece of art but also to
depict the
varying emotions of the scene in such a way as to convey to his audience the true
story of the
Annunciation in all it s different aspects.
The placement of the figure of the Virgin is especially successful in displaying a
sense of shock on
her part. Frightened by the appearance of the angel, she has delicately turned her
body away from
him to the left while her right arm covers her left breast in surprise. He left arm

My Goals And Personal Goals
В· Did you accomplish your personal goals?
Yes, I did. My personal goals align with our group project objectives, which include
fulfilling the University of Mary Benedictine values, gaining a better understanding of
the effect of socioeconomic has on children s development, and attaining a better
perception of the barrier that under privileged children face in the acquirement of
basic necessities. I provided the service to both the children and adults (food pantry)
with my classmates, during which I implemented the Benedictine values and APTA
core values. Throughout the interacting with different children, I noticed that how
important the family and social support are to early childhood development. There
was one single father who brought his son and daughter (both around 3 5 y.o) who
could not even say a word at the beginning. After we taught them the games and
played with them, they started to talk. I also learned some American games after this
project, such as the cat pull , water balloon, capture the flag, etc, which will be
helpful for me to treat pediatric patients in the future.
В· How well did the team collaborate? What was your role in helping or hindering
the team dynamics? Did the team accomplish its goals? Why or why not?
Everybody in our team did a great job and we cooperated very well throughout the
past four weeks. I was very flexible in regards to the tasks in our project and I offered

Cnn s Theory Of News Values
News reporting in the UK can best be understood through the theory of news values
News values are a set of theories that look to explain the reasons for stories
appearing in the media. News values are general guidelines or criteria used by
media outlets to determine how much prominence to give to a story (Spencer
Thomas, 2013). The new values theories aim to explain why decisions are made to
prioritise certain stories. A hard newsstory carries information in order of news value
(Keeble, 2014), which explains why certain stories have much more coverage than
others. Richard Keeble and Galtung and Ruge attempt to explain news values in their
theories. Galtung and Ruge s theory of news values includes: negativity, proximity,...

Also, the use of news values is supported by the target audience of a publication as
the readership of the publication proves what news values make up their stories.
For example, a newspaper such as The Sun may print stories about celebrity
scandals and trends, which is highlighted in Keeble s theory of news values which
includes human interest (sex and celebrities), fashion and sport. On the other hand,
it could be said that news values are weak in helping us to understand news
reporting. The news values theories appear to omit certain factors such as the brand
image, target audience, the influence of ownership and social prejudice when
considering the stories that publications prioritise. These factors could be seen as
important news values, if they were included in the theories. Also, publications may
choose to print stories not because of what they deem to be newsworthy, but because
of partiality and bias. This is media gate keeping, whereby the press decides which
information will go forward, and which will not (Lewin, 1943). They publish what
they want readers to see. This could relate to political bias, whereby a publication
prints positive stories that favour the political party that they support and prints
negative stories about the political party that opposes the one that they support.

Background of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Essay
Background of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
was published in 1886 and is one of the best known of Stevenson s novels. It
concerns the way in which an individual is made up of contrary emotions and
desires: some good and some evil. Through the curiosity of Utterson, a lawyer, we
learn of the ugly and violent Mr Hyde and his odd connection to the respectable Dr
Jekyll who pays out a cheque for Hyde s despicable behaviour. A brutal murder
follows. The dead man is one of Utterson s clients, Sir Danvers Carew. The murder
weapon was, unbelievably a cane... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally, the tale was a straightforward horror story, with no allegorical undertones.
After reading the original version to his wife, however, she suggested that more could
be done with the story and after initially resisting, Stevenson burned the initial
manuscript. The rewriting of the new Jekyll and Hyde took a scant three days.
Immediately upon its publication in January of 1887, it was recognized as a grand
work. An anonymous review in The Times praised the book highly, observing that
Nothing Mr. Stevenson has written as yet has so strongly impressed us with the
versatility of his very original genius, concluding with the plea that the story should
be read as finished study in the art of fantastic literature. Critics claim that Dr. Jekyll
was the first time Stevenson sustained a full length narrative that was not only
exciting, but also a well composed story with a powerful parable.
The Strange Case of Mr. Jekyll and Hyde is a book based on Robert Louis Stevenson
s own experiences, especially with middle age men in Edinburghand London (this,
therefore, is one of the explanations of a lack of female writers). He focused on a
milieu he knew well: the clubby, middle class world of powerful men. And what he
knew best about that milieu becomes the driving force of the novel it was a world in
which faГѓВ§ade counted
A Study On Financial Derivatives With Special Reference

A STUDY ON FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO
NIFTY F O
ABSTRACT
Derivatives are the contracts whose value is derived from the value of some
underlying assets such as equities, commodities or currencies. These contracts helps
the investor to reduce the risk of wearing down of his investments. The application of
derivatives can be observed as an opportunity to transfer the risk from the person who
wish to ignore it, to the person who is ready to accept it i.e. risk management hedging
through derivatives. In an environment, in which portfolio managers are pressured to
beat the indices, need to protect the investment gains in their portfolios from financial
risk. Different hedging strategies can be formulated to meet the particular hedging
requirements. Various studies on the outcomes of future and option listing on the
underlying asset (equity, commodity, currency market) have been done with a
view to study potential of financial derivatives and intensification of derivatives as
a hedging instrument. NSE traded derivatives have shown an exponential growth in

the entire emerging markets in terms of equity derivatives. The following study tries
to make an understanding of operational concepts of F O mechanism. It encompasses

Hippotherapy Intervention Paper
Problem Statement Some difficulties that children with special needs may face are
speech and language disorders, physical impairments, and other conditions that may
make everyday tasks more challenging. Speech therapy can help people improve their
ability to communicate verbally, physical therapy can improve their gross motor
functions, balance, posture, etc., and occupational therapycan help people do common
tasks they struggle with, such as cooking (Evans, n.d.; Bender McKenzie, 2008). If
children receive therapy for certain diagnoses early in their lives, they may improve
enough that they would no longer even need therapy (Evans, n.d.). Hippotherapy,
which is a form of therapy treatment that utilizes the movements of a horse, is... Show

Each child has goals that they are trying to reach, and, every day the child is present,
their therapists write down observations to determine what percentage the child has
improved in their set goals, which gives them a way to measure the child s success.
The study I am proposing has an experimental, qualitative design, as I plan to
compare the percent each student improves during hippotherapy sessions with the
amount improved in classroom therapy sessions to determine if the effects of
hippotherapy on children with special needs are different from those of conventional
speech therapy. I will then use this data to answer the following question: What are
the effects of hippotherapy on improvement for children who take occupational,
physical, and speech therapy that are between the ages of two and seventeen as
compared to those of conventional therapy? This research will contribute to existing
research being conducted for hippotherapy by comparing its effects on children to
those of conventional therapy, which can later influence parents and therapists to
consider therapy earlier in children s lives and look into more unconventional forms of

Ethos Pathos Logos Essay. PPT - Ethos, Pathos, and Logos PowerPoint Presentation, free download ...

  • 1. Ethos Pathos Logos Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Ethos Pathos Logos" can be quite challenging, as it requires a deep understanding of rhetorical strategies and their application in persuasive writing. The intricacies of dissecting these three pillars of persuasion – ethos, pathos, and logos – demand not only a theoretical comprehension but also a practical ability to identify and analyze them in real-world scenarios. To begin with, delving into the realm of ethos involves exploring the credibility and authority of the speaker. This requires extensive research to understand the background, qualifications, and reputation of the individual or entity presenting the argument. Balancing this with the emotional appeal of pathos, which involves connecting with the audience on a personal and emotional level, adds another layer of complexity. It requires the skill to evoke specific emotions that resonate with the intended readership. Furthermore, incorporating logos, the appeal to logic and reason, necessitates constructing a coherent and well-structured argument. This involves presenting evidence, facts, and logical reasoning in a way that is compelling and convincing. Striking the right balance between these three elements is an art that demands not only knowledge but also a keen awareness of the target audience and their perspectives. Moreover, the challenge lies not just in understanding these rhetorical techniques individually but in seamlessly integrating them into a cohesive and persuasive essay. The task becomes even more daunting when attempting to analyze existing texts or speeches to identify and evaluate the presence of ethos, pathos, and logos. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Ethos Pathos Logos" requires a multifaceted approach, blending theoretical understanding with practical application. It demands a deep dive into rhetorical strategies, effective analysis, and the ability to present a compelling argument. The complexity of this task may leave many grappling with the nuances of persuasive writing. If you find yourself needing assistance with such essays or other academic writing tasks, various resources are available. For example, you can explore online platforms likeHelpWriting.net, where similar essays and a wide range of academic content can be ordered to meet your specific needs. Issues First and foremost, the most pressing issue and reason for the current greenways project rests on the desire of the citizenry to realize and exercise alternative means of transportation. Indiana, like most mid western states, is heavily dependent upon fossil fuels and recognizes the strong hold that fuel economies have on its citizens. In Life After Oil Jeremiah Creedon states, Oil supplies are dwindling and much faster than most business, government, and even environmental leaders recognize. Problems are already appearing in the form of climbing gasoline prices, electricity shortages, and skyrocketing heating bills. 3 Nonetheless Indiana still seems perfectly

(Polak., (2000). In a concert setting, they will perform many dances in rapid succession at high energy levels. There are also modern urban electric groups (called orchestras) which largely involved guitar playing. (Price, 2013). Moreover, most recently, another genre has out grown the ballet style djembe playing, these new ensembles have further remove traditional djembe drumming by disposing of dancers. Limitations Alternatively, there were limitations in the transmission of music in the concert setting. For instance, rhythms of the ballet were modified or even changed drastically for the presentation for the performance. This resulted in a change of tempo or the djembe accompaniments. Thus, this leads to a loss of authenticity and depth, as compared to a traditional djembe performance. Moreover, African rhythmic concepts were difficult to explain. Thus, in order to teach the foreign students effectively, teachers began to simplify the rhythms and it became fixed. Similarly, to the UWA percussion ensemble, our conductor help simplified our piece as certain rhythms were hard to follow. In addition, the notes and rhythms were repetitive and fixed hence making it easier for us to remember and

  • 7. Essay on the American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon The American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon America was founded on the belief that all men are created equal. However, a question must be posed which asks who constitutes men and what is equal ? Africans were taken from their country and enslaved in America. They had to fight to retain dignity and grace in circumstances that were deplorable. Even slaves who were well taken care of were not able to realize the dream of being free again. In her work, Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison relates a story of the dream of Milkman. Although he is not a slave, Milkman is enslaved by the fact that as a child, he was forced to participate in a shameful act that he wanted no part of. Even his nickname was derived from this ... Milkman did not want to participate in this discussion, but he had no choice. Milkman must go on a difficult journey. He was never a slave. His family has money and education; however, Milkman is not satisfied. He longs to be connected to his past. He leaves everything behind to discover his roots, and his journey, though it leads to his death, is accomplished for he is free. His dream has been reached, but he cannot reap its benefits. Milkman cannot enjoy the success he shares with his family until he finds his people from the South. He retraces the history that he gathered from his family and recounts it to his people in Georgia where he discovers more truth and more myths. This revisiting of his roots is a characteristic of Africans, even if they are not direct descendants of Africa. Their dream cannot be accomplished until they are sure where their people belonged centuries before the recent generations existed. Pilate is a prime example of not existing in a traditional family setting. When their father died, Macon and Pilate were separated and sent to live with relatives or, in Pilate s case, live a nomadic life traveling from place to place. They had no contact with each other because of a disagreement that occurred a few days after their father was murdered. Pilate

During this period the American people went from dutiful British citizens to rebels who rose up against their mother country to gain their independence. This period was formative in both our legislation and literature, setting a precedent and groundwork for their contemporaries and descendants. In my opinion the core of colonial American literature can be summed up in three themes: Morality, enlightenment, and transcendentalism. The founding fathers had a vested interest in moral conditions and standards. Colonial America started with many religious castaways, including Puritans and Quakers, notoriously conservative and strict in their ideologies. The Social Worker would be seen as working more in line with the lumpenproletariat and not providing services to the proletariat and certainly not the bourgeoisie , therefore places social work at the heart of the excluded and not the included. Moreover as social work from the Marxist perspective, is placed firmly within the macro level, the individualism and person centred approach that the social worker aims to provide the client cannot be fulfilled, as to do so would mean to be working at the micro level which the Marxist view discounts. The Functionalist stance referencing the concept of social exclusion is to describe a group, or groups, of people who are excluded from the normal activities of their society in multiple ways, thus deviating from their societies norms of behaviour (Sheppard, 2006). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, Hunchback was a film that empowered the supporters of progress, and foresaw the downfall of those whose prejudice kept the status quo. A film that incorporated the similar themes of nobles and their mistreatment of the people was 1937 s The Adventures of Robin Hood. In Robin Hood, the main antagonist and key ruler, Prince John serves as an antithesis to the ideals of the main hero and the film itself. He is selfish and unsympathetic to the plight of both the poor and the Saxons, favoring the wealthy Normans in his court. His damning flaw is the same as all the other nobles: the exploitation of the plight of the lower classes. This flaw even extends to the protagonists, since Maid Marian is ignorant about the persecution of the Saxons until she visits the Merry Men s camp. The key difference, in this case is the choice that the characters make as to whether or not they will be complacent and keep the status quo. All of the good guys in Robin Hood show open defiance towards Prince John s regime, and value courage to stand up for those who are weaker. The cinematography reflects this with many brightly lit, low angle shots of Robin Hood, emphasizing his bravado and saintliness, as well as the scene of the Merry Men ambushing Guy s caravan from a literal and moral high ground. By contrast, Prince John is cowardly and sneaky; never getting his hands dirty

The trip overseas was strenuous, as was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony. Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than others. Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a new land for their country. The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in Hispaniola and Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their territory. An explorer named Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the Aztecs, which was far richer and larger than any town in Spain. With these traits, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. allowed himself to inspire the population and put himself at high risk while doing so. Determination drives a person to achieve greatness with regards for others, therefore qualifying the person who uses this trait, and the others, as a hero. Selflessness allows a hero to see past themselves to achieve the goal of attending to people s needs. To fully apply oneself, one must put others first. • 23. Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of... There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population, production, regulation, distribution and reproduction are all forces that create potential problems that lead to the creation of institutional systems. In other words, institutional systems are created because of the given selection pressures. The main goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of them can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce biologically and culturally, the institution of kinshipaids to resolve the pressures of reproduction. In the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in society, religion could help fulfill the selection pressures of regulation. Education, like kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also regulate the roles of individuals. Just like these three institutions, the others also play a role in resolving other selection pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus of this paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the issue of reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society needs to reproduce biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that Turner provides for kinship is that it allows marriageand blood ties organized into structures and mediated by

  • 25. The Vicious Cycle Of Deity In Joseph Conrad s The Heart Of... The Vicious Cycle Of Deity In Joseph Conrad s novel The Heart Of Darkness, power is expressed throughout. Power is considered a large concept in the novel and is presented as two different things, power in nature and power in humans. Power in humans is more complicated in the novel than it is in nature because nature has a power system of its own and humans do not and constantly fight for it. For humans, in order to receive power they go through several tasks just to achieve it. Kurtz is a prime example of expressing power, how he craves and achieves power is disturbing. However, Kurtz uses his power by ruining the jungle and dehumanizing the natives that live there. Furthermore, the Europeans going to the Congo crave the same power that Kurtz does and will go through any efforts just to get it, like collecting ivory. Kurtz is one of the many men sent to the jungle to collect ivory and strip the land of its natural resources. He became known as powerful for his knowledge and large collection of ivory. His power gives him the ability to achieve popularity from those back in Europe and the natives that live in the Congo. However, the power in Kurtz demonstrates his ignorance as he feels he must save the natives from themselves, leading him to dehumanize them. While in the jungle, Kurtz is in the true heart of darknesswhich is the farthest station in the jungle. Kurtz keeps being fed this illusion of power because he has been stuck in the darkness of the jungle for so long

The Chrysler Group s Merger with Fiat The Chrysler Group LLC initial public offering (IPO) was initiated by a trust known as the United Auto Workers (UAW) Retiree Medical Benefits Trust to cover medical benefits for retired workers who owned 41.5% of the company. The trust was created in 2007 as a way of reducing Chrysler s financial liability of paying existing workers and former employees health care costs and retirements. Initially, the trust was not supposed to have a large share of its assets in the form of stock, but with Chryslerrunning out of cash the following year, and falling into bankruptcy in 2009, the only asset it could offer was its own stock. Fiat and Chrysler formed a partnership in 2009, when Chrysler emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States. Since then, it has gradually increased its ownership, and combining its operations. Fiat owned 58.5% of Chrysler, and prior to the IPO offer in September 2013, Fiat long wanted to acquire the remaining stake from UAW, but the two sides could not reach an agreement over what is a fair price. As a result, UAW decided to file for IPO, using a provision of the bankruptcy agreement that allowed it to require registration for an IPO. However, after further negotiations, the Italian company settled a $4.35 billion deal to buy the remaining shares (41.5%) from UAW in early January 2014, avoiding a planned IPO of the third biggest American carmaker . As a result of the buyout, Chrysler became a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat.
  • 29. The Little Prince Analysis Uncountable hours have been spent on searching for the best way to use the time we have on the Earth and to live our lives to the fullest. Nevertheless, it seems that no ones has found the perfect answer. Throughout The Little Prince (1943), Antoine de Saint Exupery gives the reader a look on how society views time. In particular, de Saint Exupery offers up a critique on how many individuals value saving time and efficiency over anything else. The Little Princeis able to see this first hand through his various interactions with grownups along his journey. The novella is able to convey the fact that society has become overly consumed with the pursuit of efficiency, while some people become enthralled with a task at hand, they would not waste time to enjoy other things in life that may be more meaningful. However, taking your time is often more rewarding than rushing in an attempt to save time. It seems that nowadays many people live by the saying time is money and spend all their time fully dedicated to work. The line separating an individual s work and life has become essentially blurred and it is not uncommon to have people wholly wrapped up with work, having no time for anything unrelated. Although de Saint Exupery wrote the little prince in 1943, his work is very much relevant today. On the Little Prince s journey across planets he meets two characters, the businessman and the geographer, both demonstrating the unbalanced relationship between work and time. The businessman is so devoted in his work that he barely acknowledges the Little Prince. He deems that time not spent working is such a waste that he only talks to the Little Prince in between his work. The businessman claims he only has time to be concerned about matters of consequence (The Little Prince) 53, which is not disparate from how many, in the real world, view their jobs to be essential, thus spending less time doing other things. Likewise, the geographer is consumed by his work and considers the time spend working in essence invaluable. He claims that geographers is much too important to go loafing about (The Little Prince) 64, thus he does not do any exploring. Ironically this leaves the geographer with nothing to

For an established or up and coming band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising, recordings and publishing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2014 the overall music market value was only $14.97 billion (IFPI, 2014). The music record industry went into decline because of the advancing computers and telecommunication technologies, new MP3 format and Peer to Peer file sharing websites. Consumers stopped buying tangible formats like CDs and preferred to have everything on their hard drives. They were also able to get music for free, because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also changed the relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label would pay all the costs in a typical contract, which covers studio costs, session musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being recorded in digital format and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being digital downloads and streaming. This means that artists can take care of the whole process from start to finish. MUSIC PRODUCTION Technology is like a river and can change its direction completely. It can move in a different direction from what once was considered to be true and into one expected logically in the future. The cost and accessibility barrier is lowered with every new technology arriving and therefore the competition is increasing (Peter Alexander, 1994). In late 80s digital music recording was emerging, but with technological limitations like computer memory and speed, the artist couldn t do more than sampling. What I mean by that is we must inform the public, not only when an AMBER alert is emitted but before so we can prevent a possible situation. I believe this starts within the home, as parents they must monitor their children s time online to ensure they are not talking to people who they are not supposed to be talking to. While the Internet is a great tool it is also a great medium for possible predators to begin to stalk your children. Parents must be aware of who their children are speaking to online to prevent the possibility of an abduction in the future. Other precautions are very simple as well, such as being aware of where they are and setting boundaries and rules of where they could be at certain times. Another precaution could be as simple as ensuring the child has an up to date Identification card. In the home, parents should also warn the children of possible dangers from strangers and possible situations that if they are found in a difficult situation how they should react. Parents must also be informed of the truth about abductions. According to kidshealth.org most children who are reported missing have run away or are just lost. Provide examples to illustrate your discussion. a.Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking, was reading, were eating... It is crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does not distinguish between perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either form. For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time. there is also

  • 41. Cnn s Theory Of News Values News reporting in the UK can best be understood through the theory of news values News values are a set of theories that look to explain the reasons for stories appearing in the media. News values are general guidelines or criteria used by media outlets to determine how much prominence to give to a story (Spencer Thomas, 2013). The new values theories aim to explain why decisions are made to prioritise certain stories. A hard newsstory carries information in order of news value (Keeble, 2014), which explains why certain stories have much more coverage than others. Richard Keeble and Galtung and Ruge attempt to explain news values in their theories. Galtung and Ruge s theory of news values includes: negativity, proximity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the use of news values is supported by the target audience of a publication as the readership of the publication proves what news values make up their stories. For example, a newspaper such as The Sun may print stories about celebrity scandals and trends, which is highlighted in Keeble s theory of news values which includes human interest (sex and celebrities), fashion and sport. On the other hand, it could be said that news values are weak in helping us to understand news reporting. The news values theories appear to omit certain factors such as the brand image, target audience, the influence of ownership and social prejudice when considering the stories that publications prioritise. These factors could be seen as important news values, if they were included in the theories. Also, publications may choose to print stories not because of what they deem to be newsworthy, but because of partiality and bias. This is media gate keeping, whereby the press decides which information will go forward, and which will not (Lewin, 1943). They publish what they want readers to see. This could relate to political bias, whereby a publication prints positive stories that favour the political party that they support and prints negative stories about the political party that opposes the one that they support. News values can be used to understand the media
